I submitted a review three years ago after we moved our father into Benton House of Decatur. At the time, we were very pleased with the transition of moving Dad. The staff members were extremely helpful and pleasant, and I wish I could say the same thing when we moved Dad out of Benton House this past August. In the past almost three years I have learned a lot about assisted living/memory care facilities. The first question I would recommend asking is how long have your administrators and staff been at the facility. I am disappointed to say that Benton House of Decatur lacks this consistency. In the three years that our father was a resident, there were four different Executive Directors, at least five changes in the Resident Services Director position, and the unfortunate elimination of the Memory Care Coordinator position, which I believe is vital to running a successful memory care facility. Along with this lack of consistency, I was disappointed with the revolving door of caregivers in the Orchard area specifically. In fact, I cannot think of one who has been there for the entire duration of our father's stay (which was less than three years). This creates a specific problem for memory care residents who are known to do better with routine and in stable environments with consistent staff. Each new caregiver was a stranger to the residents and someone who had to learn each individual's routine, likes, dislikes, etc. As a caregiver of a parent with Alzheimer's, consistency is always a major concern. Another concern, is the lack of training specific to residents with Alzheimer's and other memory loss diseases. All in all, I am saddened to say that my experience with Benton House of Decatur started out wonderful and then steadily declined over the past three years. I hope they are able to retain and properly train their staff to better attend to their memory care residents.

Our dad has been here for many years. Before the pandemic they were consistent at making sure everyone had something to do to keep them engaged and they were excellent at making sure all his needs were met. During the pandemic they were even better at making sure everyone was safe and avoided getting sick. Even more than the average of other assisted living places. We are super happy with how they are taking care of our dad and they make it as fun as possible for him to stay entertained and comfortable. The staff makes him feel like they are part of the family.

My mother (96 years old) was living alone after my father died. It became evident, after a couple of bad falls, that it was no longer safe for her to live alone. My brother and I took her to tour a facility near his house in Newton County and Benton House which is very close to my home. As soon as we walked into the lobby of Benton House, I knew we had found her new home. She really loved it as well. Since she moved into her apartment almost a year ago, we all have come to view the staff and other residents as family. Moving my mother to Benton House was one of the best decisions our family has made.

Moved my mom in 6 months ago. She is not a social person but has become quite the social butterfly with the encouragement of the team and kindness they have shown has truly changed her life. Everyone that works there is kind and attentive. So happy to know she is being cared for.

Benton House is lovely, clean and my mom is very happy to live there. Staff turnover is much higher than ideal, but now that the pandemic has slowed, hopefully employee retention will be higher.

My mom has been happy at Benton House since moving there in 2019. It's clean and provides many activities for the residents. The staff is helpful and responsive.

My mother has been at Benton House Decatur for over a year. Overall, she has had a very good experience at this facility. We liked the fact that the facility is smaller than others we visited with only one level which makes it easier for her to go anywhere without taking an elevator. The pleasant staff and cleanliness of the facility was also a positive. The past 6 months with COVID have been challenging for all of the residents, families and staff. I think that Hollie has done a good job in trying to keep everyone safe. They appear to be following all the state mandated guidelines. Jenny, Activities Director, is a shining star . Her sweet loving spirit has really helped mother get through these trying times during the epidemic. There are many other staff members who have gone out of their way to make her feel comfortable and loved. I would highly recommend Benton House to any family looking for an Assisted Living facility.

My mother has been living at this home since it opened. I had to move her from another facility which is just around the corner so I am able to compare the care. Hollie and her staff truly care about the residents and they timely respond to any concerns and questions. I can say that since she moved here I have not had to worry about her safety. We did not plan to move my mother again so as her care has increased, Hollie made sure she worked with us to find innovative ways to be able to continue giving her the care she needs.

My mother moved to Benton House Decatur about a year ago after the death of my father. Mom had just recently moved from another facility in the metro area. Prior to that time, she was a resident in another facility in Georgia. After these changes in residences, we were concerned about mom adjusting to her new normal. Then we found Benton House of Decatur. The administrative team at Benton House worked very diligently with my family to ensure that mom made a smooth transition to her new home. The key to mom's success at the Benton House are the following: a lovely aesthetically appealing and clean facility, multiple recreational activities for the residents, and the availability of Hollie and her staff. The staff's display of positive interactions with mom and the other residents at the Benton House is greatly appreciated.

My dad has lived here for two years now. The staff is attentive and friendly. They have been quick to respond to COVID procedures and still manage to provide residents with activities and interaction where/when appropriate. Facility is clean and well maintained. Food is pretty good, especially the bacon at breakfast!

Last winter, I realized that I could no longer care for my wife at home. She has advanced Alzheimer's. We were fortunate enough to have her admitted to the Orchard memory-care neighborhood of Benton House in February 2020, just before the pandemic hit. Thank goodness! They're taking great care of her. She's eating well, sleeping well, interacting with residents and staff, and apparently enjoying herself. The memory-care coordinator sends me a report each Friday, sometimes with a video. I'm so grateful to have found Benton House.

The Benton House of Decatur is DeKalb County's newest "JEWEL" for the Senior Population. It should be called the Benton House Resort (smile). Whether your needs are Memory Care or Independent Living- your needs will be catered to. I have been part of the Benton House family since the doors opened to this wonderful establishment here in Decatur. Opening a new community as well as learning and getting to know each and every resident personally is a great task- but it is one that the BENTON HOUSE TEAM had a HUGE PASSION for. Our care is individualized to each and every one of our residents and we strive each and every day to give them the BEST quality care that we possibly can. We make it our duty to make our residents feel as though "HOME" is where the heart is.. and to us THIS IS THEIR HOME! Everyone here is ONE BIG FAMILY and it shows- from the moment you walk in the door- you are greeted with warm smiles.. and often hugs- whether it's a member of the Management team or staff. The residents are happy and there is always something fun and exciting going on at BHD (Benton House Decatur). The care staff go above and beyond and they care for the residents as if it were their very own family member. Our Memory Care (Beacon) Neighborhood is the cream of the crop. Sabrina (Beacon Director) has years of experience and she is so awesome at what she does. The residents are engaged in awesome activities as well as outings. There are dedicated staff in this neighborhood who are passionate about caring for residents with memory impairments. Our Maintenance guy- RICK- does the coolest Elvis show in town- and the residents absolutely love it. When it comes to dining- Chef Kay and Ms. Linda will have you licking your fingers and asking for seconds (smile). Andrea our Community Relations Director makes sure that we deliver the care that she promises our families. Jenny our Activities Director keeps the residents active, vibrant, and full of fun-filled days. Joanie- our Business Office Director keeps everything in "CHECK" (ha ha get it check- she's who you will submit your payments to each month). Oh and I almost forgot Katrice- the Resident Services Director (writer of this review)- she is awesome! LOL I have about 20 years in the Healthcare Industry and have a genuine passion for my residents. I go above and beyond for my residents each and everyday. They know that I am just a call away after I leave the community after work hours, but I will be there in a heartbeat if they need me. If you are looking for a great place for your loved one- Benton House of Decatur will not disappoint! I am not just saying it because I am a part of the TEAM- I am saying this because each and every single day- I witness 1st hand... our residents receive PURE, TRUE, and UNCONDITIONAL LOVE from the staff , families, staff, fellow residents and my other Management PEERS!

My mom was not able to care for herself any longer but was unwilling to move. As a family we knew that she would not be skipping into any assisted living facility eager to transition. But we found the Staff at Benton House of Decatur to be caring and professional. They have done miraculous work to help mom adjust these 2 months to the point that she is almost happy to be there (this says a lot). She is getting opportunities to socialize but the thing she loves the most is the food! Chef K is marvelous! Now there are some issues with the laundry service and "deep cleaning" but nothing so severe that merits 4 stars. Plus, Hollie is always willing to listen and cares deeply for the residents and their families. Thank you Benton House!
