Our mother has been living at Dunwoody Place for the past 10 months and we have found everything to be clean, bright, and above all, very safe for the residents and staff. With the new carpeting, flooring, painting, and room upgrades, the time spent at this facility has been very enjoyable for our mother. Stephen Miller is the Director, and deserves a lot of credit for his leadership skills, warmth, patience, and understanding. He takes the time to visit his residents, and knows my mother...and she really knows him! To me, thats important. If you havent had a chance to get to know Stephen, you should. Its definitely worth the time.

After two years of excessive, head-spinning staff turnover, Dunwoody Place landed a director who is by far the best theyve had since our mother moved in over 2.5 years ago. Stephen is attentive and eager to address any and all concerns weve had. The food is subpar but I understand, again, that theyve had kitchen staff turnover and cant seem to maintain a chef. Their nursing and care staff are absolutely amazing. One has even kept in contact after our mother moved out of state. I am not exaggerating in saying they genuinely loved our mother which made the whole experience all the better. The rehabilitation and exercise room and staff were outstanding! The building itself is dated and needs major renovation. Windows cannot close causing moisture in the room, door lock never worked properly. The patio is gorgeous, full of plants and bird, quiet and shaded....but my mother couldnt get to it! The door could not be easily opened, the threshold too high, and the incline too steep. As far as our mother was concerned, it was inaccessible. On the other hand, the front porch is a favorite gathering place and easily accessible where residents people watch, chat with other residents, and can receive guests. But with very little extra effort, money and a little imagination, that courtyard could be a showpiece and major selling point to draw future residents. The building is otherwise surrounded by one big parking lot with no real outdoor space. The lobby is beautiful with a huge fireplace but no separation from the front door which, in wintertime, delivers a blast of cold wind every time the automatic doors open. Again, very little thought went into the functionality of the space though no expense was spared on the marble floors and coffered ceilings. We found the cost to be more than reasonable and actually less than my parents previous out of town assisted living apartment. Overall, it was affordable, convenient, and acceptable.

I recently moved out of Dunwoody Place due to my mother needing more specialized care for her Alzheimers diagnosis. Dunwoody Place has had quite a bit of turnover the past 2 years since Pegasus purchased the facility but I believe they finally found the right person to lead the facility when they hired Stephon Miller Stephon was a breath of fresh air in regards to communication both internally and externally and making sure any of my questions-needs were being addressed. Stephon demonstrated real leadership especially in these days of Covid 19. I strongly urge Pegasus to make sure they support Stephon and his vision for the facility which will hopefully create some real continuity in regards to consistent leadership in the building.

Dunwoody Place (formerly Brookdale Dunwoody). Overall this community is clean, safe, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. There are a great many activities for residents and the residents themselves are delightful. Food service and consistency of staffing are the only issues that prevent this from being 5 stars. Hoping the change in management will address these issues.

Caring
I visited Brookdale, and the person I talked to was very informative, but I didn't qualify. I was looking for apartments. However, it looked really nice and clean. The people were nice. The staff was nice, courteous, respected me, and tried to help me out.

My Mom has been a resident here for 5 years living independently. She is cognitively intact but wheel chair dependent. For the first 2 years they had a very good executive director but she left. Basically the facility has been without leadership for 2-3 years. It has been difficult to get the smallest issue resolved and never any follow up. Huge staff turn over and shortages. Long waits for food in the dining room and food is terrible. Sometimes no housecleaning staff to clean the apartments. They seem to realize that this facility has major issues. They remodeled the common areas but when my Mom moved in they did not rehab her apartment basically repaint or even clean the carpet. Five years later it is horrible and when I asked about they told me that they only rehab between residents. The administrator who gave me this information basically was pretty nasty about it. I try to be polite always. My Mom is starting to need more assistance with her ADLs and believe I do not trust this facility to deliver acceptable care no matter how much I pay extra for it.

Brookdale Dunwoody is a great community -- great senior living and family-oriented and caring staff. They have a calendar of activities so you would know whats going on every month. From the menu that I saw, they have well balanced meals, and they also have in-between meals.

Brookdale is fancy looking, it has a large parking space. The respite rooms are on the second floor, so you have to come down and use the elevator. The people who are staying there looked happy. They have three dining places, and they have a gym.

Brookdale Dunwoody does seem to care a lot with their residents. I chose this particular location out of four; then I got it down to two. They were both Brookdale communities, and they were equal distance from my house. One is an easy drive, and one is a hard drive. The easy drive was a couple of hundred dollars cheaper. I chose this one, which is a couple of hundred dollars more and a harder drive, because they really seem to understand my particular situation. They helped me arrange care for my husband to where I'm confident that he is safe, and I can have a life of my own. The food is really OK. I have a specific problem with my husband which has nothing to do with the management. He is 95, he had trouble swallowing, and he doesn't like eating. I'd like it if I went there. They can accommodate any particular diet he wants. It's pleasant and clean, and I think the breakfast is great. They have a full list of activities, but my husband doesn't do any of them because he is just sort of not interested. They have everything like games and Wi-Fi. If you want to do something else, they can do that activity.

The location of Brookdale was good, and the service was perfect. They serve three meals a day, and we have an assistant who comes in and helps with things in the apartment. The management is responsive and attentive to problems.

I've lived here for four years, and this is a very nice and comfortable facility. Anytime dining (7 to 7) is an outstanding feature, the common areas were redecorated in 2012, and most of the staff have been here longer than I. It's conveniently located to Perimeter Mall, Northside & St Joseph's hospitals, grocery stores, and transportation is provided for medical appointments, shopping, church, etc. I hope you'll stop by to visit Emeritus at Dunwoody.
