The Villas has been a lifesaver for our family. After a terrible fall, my mom was no longer able to live in her home where she had resided for the past 40 years. Her physical trauma as well as the emotional trauma of having to give up her home was more than she could come to terms with. She was at the point of giving up on life. After researching and visiting numerous facilities, we made the decision that the Villas at Killearn Lakes was the place for her. The care partners as well as the administrative staff provide professional and compassionate care that is far beyond anything that we could have imagined. The Villas literally brought her back to life. She loves her new home and the family that she has become a part of.

My husband has been a resident at The Villas of Killearn Lakes for 10 months and I could not be more pleased. Each villa has a large gathering room with the individual rooms off the large gathering room. There is a wonderful table where the residents come to eat, along with a fireplace with a TV over it and comfortable furniture around it where they can gather to watch TV or participate in activies. All of their meals are cooked in the spacious kitchen, open to this gathering room. Each villas provides a wonderful home-like atmosphere that my husband adjusted to easily. The entire staff in his villa are knowledgeable, kind, caring, respectful and outgoing. They have become like family to us. They have gone beyond their "duties" and laugh and joke with my husband who enjoys this immensely. My husband loves the food that is prepared in his villa each day and he enjoys getting together with the other residents at mealtimes. The personal care he gets is outstanding. He needs are met immediately and he has adjusted well to his new routines. His room is always clean and his clothes are well maintained. The care workers communicate with me often and keep me informed of any needs that need to be taken care of. There are a variety of activities for him to be involved with, along with activities for the families to participate in also. I have loved getting to know the family members of the other residents. We all make a point to get to know one another's family members and enjoy all visiting together. The staff does a good job at managing my husband's medications and meeting his individual needs. The grounds are beautiful and well taken care of and my husband loves the ability to go outside and sit on his porch or "walk" his wheelchair around on the sidewalks. I am thrilled for a safe area for him to do so. My husband moving to The Villas has been a wonderful experience.

My dad is in the middle stages of Alzheimer’s and has been at The Villas for about 8 months. This place has been SUCH a blessing to our family. The staff truly cares about the residents. The atmosphere is much more “homey” than a typical place like this. The design and idea of a little neighborhood is so unique and walking around honestly feels comfortable and almost fun when I go and visit. The layout of each villa feels like a family home, complete with living room, kitchen and family dining table. The staff communicates well and seems to always have my dad’s best in mind. We picked The Villas at Killearn Lakes for respite care after a knee replacement surgery at almost 90. The staff there are AMAZING! They took very good care of dad. We loved that he was in a homelike setting with only 11 other residents in the villa. There is a rehabilitation team onsite. We could not be happier with the services and the family environment. Dad loved the staff in his villa.

Our mother entered the Villas at Killearn Lakes in the fall of 2024. She is a very content "Elder," telling us multiple times she is very happy and how well she is treated by staff. She said she is "where she belongs" as she realizes she can no longer live in an independent living facility. Her relocation from independent living was needed as her memory issues made her forget to take important medications, even when we would repeatedly call to remind her. Necessary medications were missed, sometimes as many as three times a week. This is not a problem in the Villas as all medications are given to her at the appropriate time by caring staff. If she has a doctor appointment with required blood draw and/or urinary tests, the Villas LPN takes care of this process using a third party with a nominal fee. It is well worth the fee as fasting labs are taken before Mom has eaten without disrupting her day to get ready, drive to the lab and get her back to the Villas long after breakfast is over. Another problem she had living independently was meals. She had so many food choices she became overwhelmed. She would take items and pick at them saying nothing tasted good. The uneaten food remained on her plate which caused unwanted weight loss. At the Villas, each meal is prepared by staff per a chef’s planned menu for that particular meal. It is no longer her decision, and the food is similar to what she has eaten throughout her life. She is quite happy to the point of gaining a few needed pounds. Meals are served at regular times daily and smell great. If the meal served is not to her liking, the staff will make her an alternate item. They know her likes and dislikes and feed her accordingly. Menus are printed and distributed each month so you can keep up with your Elder’s diet. Many activities which stimulate the Elders both physically and mentally are held in all six villas. An activities calendar is available and distributed to all, including the Elders' relatives, via email. Activities are open to those wishing to attend and some, including holiday specific activities, are promoted for the Elders' families. Current monthly activities and menu calendars are posted on the back of each Elder’s room door. Activity pictures and videos are posted on a private Facebook page. We had a stylist come in to cut Mom's hair and trim her fingernails. When I asked Mom's Villa Supervisor if we could use the room with the hairstyling sink, I was told, "Of course, this is her home." An independent hair stylist, manicurist and massage therapist are also available, for an additional fee. A podiatrist comes quarterly to maintain her feet. There is an extra charge for this service but, once again, it is well worth the small fee for a medical doctor to cut her toenails and check for any potential foot problems. The Villas are enclosed with secure gates. Families and friends have access at all hours. There are walkways to help the 12 Elders per villa stay active with needed walking. Each villa has a large, comfortable activity room and a screened back porch. There are chairs on all front porches where the Elders enjoy the company and solve all the problems of the world. If she is not doing well, they call us immediately so we can take appropriate action. The staff is willing to help us as needed. We inform them if she needs to be ready for an appointment and she will be prepared. They assist with showers, shampooing, laundry. They change her bed linens and make up her bed daily. They encourage her to drink fluids per her doctor's request. Each villa also has a generator. The Villas are a local business. Managers are usually on-site and easily accessible if you have any concerns. In addition, they know each Elder on a personal level. We are very happy with our mother's placement at the Villas. We have been helped immeasurably and relieved of the stress of our mother’s many daily necessities. If you are looking for a terrific “home” for your loved one, you really cannot find a better place than the Villas at Killearn Lakes.

The Villas at Killearn Lakes saved my dad's life last summer. I didn't think he would still be with me, but they turned his life around with personalized care. Last June, Dad's health took a terrible turn for the worst. He was hallucinating, angry, memory was gone, body spasms, and his legs were horribly swollen with fluid. We moved him into the Villas the end of June and with the care team in his Villa along with the nurse, activities director, and other residents, he started to heal. They adjusted his medications and took time to help him with compression socks and personal care. He slowly became his old feisty self again. Everything you need is on site. The accommodations are outstanding and kept clean. The meals are prepared by the care coordinators and served at a large family table. Tons of activities, too. Dad nicknamed the Director of Activities Speedy because of the way she is always on the move with a smile! I can't say enough wonderful things about the Villas. If only this model was replicated in other communities!

The decision to move my parents into assisted living was not an easy one, but with daddy having Alzheimer's and mama a stroke they could no longer live independently. I did EXTENSIVE research into NUMEROUS places and Villas at Killearn surpassed them all in MANY ways. We love the in home feel that it gives you with meals being prepared for just the elders in that specific villa and the numerous activities they offer. The main reason we chose this was the Love and respect that was shown to all of us. Hands down the staff is truly amazing and have become like family to us. My dad passed away a few months ago and the compassion shown to our family was truly remarkable. Several of the caretakers drove to Valdosta for the burial service. Our family recommends Villas at Killearn without any hesitation.

When the Activities Director left her career in education to work at the Villas, she called on me to provide craft activities since we had taught together. I have provided monthly activities and volunteered at special events for over two years. I have served mocktails on Casino night and hot chocolate at Friday socials. I have never experienced a bad day at the Villas. I've seen the activities and performance opportunities grow every month, engaging every resident in celebrations, book groups, Bible study, music and movement, art, and so much more. Their partnership with the neighboring preschool enriches the children and their tribe of adoptive grandparents equally. The staff truly knows each resident and looks for the optimal amount of engagement for each personality. This is, without a doubt, the best home I've seen for those who can't be completely independent but who want to be treated as independent and dignified members of a community. I am go grateful to be a volunteer at the Villas.

The Villas are gated around all 6 giving it a spacious feel while keeping the residents safe. The staff is kind and attentive. I think the Villas At Killearn is the best ALF in Tallahassee. It is deeply individualized and they have the best staff working all the time to make sure everyone there is taken care. Your family member won’t get lost in the crowd like at some other ALF’s. It’s similar to a small town where everyone knows everyone. The rooms are awesome and feel like a cozy little apartment as opposed to some run of the mill vanilla mass duplicated space. It’s also in one of most beautiful parts of Tallahassee. It’s healthcare done right. Their admin is always up to date on the most recent regulations and consults with some of the best people around to make sure they don’t miss a beat.

At this Thanksgiving time as I look back on this past year, on behalf of my husband and myself I wanted to express our gratitude to the owners, management and caretakers at The Villas. My 86 yr old husband had a nearly fatal fall this time last year, resulting in a broken neck and brain trauma. After in hospital treatment and then rehab hospital treatment it just wasn’t time for him to come home as he still had a lot of recovering left to do, but not necessarily in a skilled hospital nursing facility. We found that The Villas offered care in a home like atmosphere with a common and spacious open dining and living area, smaller family meeting room, screened back and wide front porch with rockers, with each villa housing a maximum of 12 Elders. He had privacy in his own bright room that included a private bath. He gradually was able to regain most of his balance where he walked several times daily (weather permitting) starting in a wheelchair, then to a walker and finally with a cane around the pretty grounds on the provided safe, monitored walkways. He received physical and other therapies and enjoyed the varied planned social activities. He also enjoyed his meals and snacks. Especially when Exec. Director Bobbie Massey-Hollifield would bring him a slice of her delicious homemade chocolate cake. After six months of assisted memory living and respite care at The Villas my husband was able to transition back into our home where he continues to recover. We found ourselves in a terrible situation, not knowing where to go and what to do. The Villas fit our needs perfectly. We were blessed with the care and concern provided by all at the Villas and are so very thankful.

Villas at Killearn Lakes is a beautiful and unique concept for Assisted Living with the 6 homes verses a large building. If you are looking for regular Assisted Living, I think it might be a perfect fit for your loved one. However, if you are searching for Memory Care for someone who may have significant cognitive symptoms, my opinion based on my family’s experience is that it is not a good fit. In our experience, their staff were not able to tolerate many of my relative’s very common symptoms of dementia such as wandering, waking up at night, and agitation. Many of their staff members are phenomenal, but, in my opinion, they simply do not have enough of them. Initially we thought their staff to resident ratio sounded wonderful and better than any other facility we had looked into, but I feel that their generous ratios don’t seem so generous in light of staff member responsibilities. It is my understanding that care partners are tasked with not only taking care of the residents, but also administering their meds, cooking and preparing all meals, cleaning each Villa, and doing all of the laundry. There are times when their ability to care for the residents seemed to be very limited. Other facilities have separate staff to handle each of those duties. They requested that we hire a one on one caregiver for my relative, at our expense, because, it seemed to me, that they did not have enough staff to properly care for my loved one in the evenings. There were also instances when they requested family to drive out there to help. In the end, we felt that our relative was not treated with dignity, compassion, or patience by the administration. In my opinion, they gave up on my loved one way too quickly and we were forced to move them out of Villas, a place that had become familiar and comfortable to my family member. This was stressful, overwhelming and disappointing for all of us. If you are looking for a stable and secure environment for your loved one with dementia, please be very cautious before placing them here. Make sure you are clear on what the facility can and cannot handle.

Both of my parents are at the villas. The hardest decision we had to make was to take them out of their home. With dad having dementia and mom a stroke we had no choice. We did our due diligence and did research and visits to MANY facilities and the Villas was unsurpassed. The minute we walked in we felt like we had found "home" for them. The villas are kept clean and the fact that their meals are prepared in each villa was such a bonus. The caretakers have been amazing and go out of their way to be sure my parents are well taken care of and loved. They plan many fun activities for the elders and encourage them to participate. It is beyond helpful that they have a physician that will manage their care in the privacy of their room. Also providing OT and PT onsite They offer hair, nail amd massage services onsite as well. As we own a business and our schedules are crazy it is so helpful to have all these amenities offered onsite. When my Mother needed to move from our home into Assisted Living, we all wanted to find a place that felt as close to home as possible. After visiting the Villas at Killearn Lakes we all “knew” we had found her next “home”. We have been very pleased with every experience from the initial visits, meeting with staff, moving in and now living there for a month. The Administrative staff have been wonderful. It is obvious they love what they do. They are regularly visiting the elders, finding out what they like and don’t like, and showing them they care for them. The caregivers have treated her like their grandmother. They have been so loving. We hear from the caregiver and Administrative staff regularly, keeping us posted on how she is doing and anything they feel needs attention. I haven’t even mentioned yet how beautiful each Villa is and how nice the neighborhood of Villas is!! Each Villa is truly a very large home. The great room is very inviting. The elders enjoy eating together at one large table, then sitting together watching television in front of the fire. The rocking chairs on the front porch are a favorite gathering spot to watch what’s going on. Believe me, they enjoy keeping track of who is coming and going. The private bedrooms and baths are very nice size. For this huge life event in my Mother’s life, we know she is in the right place.

I've recently moved two clients into the Villas@Killearn Lakes for Assisted Living care. Both are thriving in the small, family type environment. Meals are made from scratch in the kitchen of each Villa and residents are encouraged to participate as they are able. The large living room provides opportunities for socialization while the smaller activity room provides an area to spend quiet time alone. The 2 covered porches allow for socially distanced visits with friends and family. The staff to resident care ratio is the best in town with a maximum of 12 elders in each villa. I'm truly happy to know my clients are CARED for by all who interact with them in this residence! Activities that have particularly increased the Quality of Life for my clients include “Mocktail hour”, Bingo, Walking Track Team, Special guest Musicians in the Courtyard. The increased socialization in each Villa has been life changing for my folks. I have seen them reduce the time spent in the recliner and return to more active daily activities. The staff are always helpful and encourage residents to get out into the sunshine. Many fast friendships have been formed in the front porch rockers.

They really do an awesome job and we loved the difference between the Villas and other larger facilities. I know my mom was happier during her respite stay at the Villas in her nice “house” instead of a big building that looks just like every nursing home.
