Toured assisted living and was pleasantly surprised. Heard good things but went better than hoped. Christina was a wealth of information and resources. This can happen pretty seamlessly. The care team I met were attentive and kind. Pleasantly surprised how nice the studio apartment is. Pricing is comparable to what I’ve researched but much more clinical advantages and options for people to stay entertained. We will Be making Southport our new home.

My Mother spent over a month at South Port Square in rehab then to Hospice. Kaylee, Rose, Kevin and many other Nurses and Aids were outstanding. My Mother was treated with dignity and their staff is amazing. She had been to two other rehabilitation centers in the last year and there is no comparison. She passed April 24th and they made a difficult transition best possible. Thank you. Chuck Smallman

The staff and Team at South Port Square in Port Charlotte are absolutely amazing! They represented the community well and answered all of our questions during a recent tour. The community is amazing! So clean, updated and so welcoming! There is so much to see and do. It is a true "destination" and the perfect senior-focused community for your loved one in SWFL. Highly recommended!

The grounds are immaculate and inviting with peaceful seating areas near walkways. The energy there is vibrant and happy. The food is delicious. This community is senior living at its best in SWFL!

South Port Square / Harbor Health promises a "seamless transition" to the next level of care. Their marketing claims "when there is a change in health, the resident can directly enter a care level that matches their needs". Don't believe this. My mom was in Assisted Living at Harbor Health when she suffered a UTI that caused dementia to take over her mind. It was clear she needed the supervision and locked doors that came in the Memory Care unit, but there were no apartments available. If you think South Port Square has a plan to deal with this situation, you'd be wrong. My mom was forced to stay in her Assisted Living apartment. She was required to pay a home health agency (owned by South Port Square) for 1-on-1 supervision at $33 per hour. Their instructions were to keep her in her room for her "health and safety". Administrators at Harbor Health then increased the amount she paid monthly for her apartment by $900 because her dementia was such that she needed more help and made their jobs more difficult! Mom's move to Memory Care didn't happen within days or even weeks.....she remained in Assisted Living for 28 days! The cost to her for the 1-on-1 supervision they required exceeded $10,000. During the month she waited for an apartment she was isolated, confused and depressed. Her hallucinations and delusions were at their worst, and she threatened to kill herself....that's how sick her mind had become. The help and counseling she desperately needed in the dementia unit was just down the hall from her Assisted Living apartment but was not available to her. Mom lived only 4 weeks in Memory Care before being admitted to Hospice and passing. I have great guilt about placing my mom at South Port Square. It was not a nurturing environment, and the final months of her life were miserable. I made a terrible mistake.

Very nice rehab, everyone is very nice and attentive, family member says food is very good too. The only issue I have is when I went to visit for the first time and I signed in I signed in under my family members name thinking that's who I was going to see and now every time you send me a message it comes up with my family members name and not my name and nobody at the front desk seems to know how to fix that!

Dick and I observed a maintenance employee who saw that a resident was struggling to transfer her groceries from her car to a cart. He stepped in and loaded all her items and brought them to the 1st floor elevator. At this point a housekeeping employee saw this and offered to take the groceries to her apartment. I have lived in independent living for 7 years. I love the activities here, but I also love the fact that I am free to pursue my other passion for volunteering for the St Vincent de Paul of Sacred Heart Congress. Southport Square allowed me to collect food for our pantry to help my other love. Residents have been very generous and ST, Vincent de Paul so appreciates food contributed! Thank you to my fellow residents! Just to say you can do as you please here, and still be reassured that should something happen, you have the comfort of knowing you will be taken care of here!

At first glance the property is just stunning. The landscape is well maintained and beautifully arranged. The several buildings are well maintained and each has its own decor vibe. The friendly welcoming smiles are throughout each community. The staff is always willing to listen and offer assistance if needed. The services offered allows and encourages residents to feel safe and independent as possible. The extended health services are available if needed and that provides much security to families. I appreciate having peace of mind that so much is in arms reach if needed.

My husband and I moved here 2 1/2 years ago at the age of 62 and 61. We have loved it every day that we have been here. We get asked a lot why we moved in so young and our answer is why not? There is no stress, no worrying about hurricanes, great amenities, you can be as busy as you like or as quiet as you want. The best part is people really about you and you are not alone. My question, is why do people wait so long and then they can’t enjoy everything they offer.

Southport Square is truly one of the most beautiful places. The grounds are absolutely stunning and peaceful. Our family has had both our mother and our aunt in the skilled nursing section for therapy at different times, and the experience was exceptional both times. The therapy team was outstanding. Their positive energy, teamwork, and laughter made a huge difference in helping our loved ones feel comfortable and motivated. They worked incredibly hard to get them back on their feet ” and believe it or not, they both actually looked forward to therapy! The activities department was just as impressive. There were so many engaging programs, from bingo and live music to an indoor garden and food-related fun like ice cream socials. During one of the music programs, staff from across the campus dressed in costumes for a parade ” including Executive Director Brian Hess, which was such a thoughtful and joyful surprise. One afternoon, while waiting for our mother to return from therapy around lunchtime, the staff kindly directed us to the campus bistro. We enjoyed a lovely meal there ” another example of how every detail at Southport is designed with care and hospitality. We are beyond grateful to Southport Square for the compassion, energy, and dedication they pour into every aspect of care. Thank you for making such a difference in our family’s life.

Where can I even start. For one, the community itself is magnificent. Beautiful walkways lead through a well kept campus littered with gardens, fountains and friendly faces! The staff is always friendly, I never fail to receive smiles from the staff as I make my way through campus. The infectious smile is even seen from the residents as they make their way through. The best thing that I can say about Southport is it’s a community that cares whether you’re a resident or staff, and the love is reciprocated and felt throughout.

South Port Square has it all- continuing care, a variety of activities including bingo, woodwork shop, gardening, a newly renovated fitness centre overlooking the water, delicious and nutritious cuisine, and unmatched service where the workers are sincere and compassionate, treating all residents like family! I would love to see my grandma at South Port where she can truly feel at home, be the social butterfly that she is and thrive in the stunning grounds, surrounded by authentic, and like minded people.

Being a part of South Port Square is being a part of a family. The staff genuinely care about all of the residents and each other and you feel the warmth, love, positivity, and vibrance in the air! The staff is great, but the facility keeps putting money into pickleball courts and landscaping rather than elevator maintenance, the fall hazard of the sloping shifting concrete exiting bldg east into the back resident parking lot. No sidewalks to protect hearing impaired residents, dog walkers, scooters from going down the middle of the road. Cars drive slow, but people stumble into the road and are unaware of traffic. NEED SIDEWALKS.

It is a clean and comfortable facility with many options for activities etc. - the reason for this review is to commend Carolyn the administrator who has been gracious and helpful with regard to assisting as notary for document signings and providing info as to Mom's contractual agreements with South Port.

I hope you are not getting several reviews, my original kept disappearing. We drove yesterday morning from Stuart, Fl to your facility to visit my mother, Rita Cullen. It was a long drive and when we arrived we found my appointment was not as I had anticipated. Not to place blame, it does not matter now, but all I was able to do was have a window visit with my mother. I am writing to thank Ken, one of your security guards, for his helpfulness. I am sorry I did not get his last name but he was working yesterday, Saturday, at Harbor Health. He was so gracious, helpful and conscientious he defused an otherwise angry situation.
