From Brad the GM, to the nurses and aids to the wait staff: Sandra, Deborah, Christina, Melissa, Mary, Juanna, Michelle, Maria x 2, Laurie, Dee, and many, many more who loved on my parents as if they were family. I believe we built lifelong relationships with this wonderful staff. Assisted living is expensive everywhere. These staff members do not make a lot of money. My mom, now 98, has been a resident at Discovery Commons for over five years. We are very impressed with the beautiful facility, its cleanliness, and layout. The care team is great and folks in the administrative offices are very responsive to our needs. As time has gone on, we have required higher levels of care and are very thankful for the leadership of the nursing director and her staff.In speaking with another resident recently, he said that he’d been in two other area places and the food is far superior at Discovery. Mom has had many visitors who are familiar with other places and always remark about how this place is so much nicer than others.In summary, we highly recommend Discovery Commons to others.

Staff is, for the most part, very good and caring of the residents. Nurses, Kerrie & Travis in memory care take time to listen and help with your loved ones. Our family was both blessed and privileged to find Discovery Commons of South Biscayne-Memory Care, for our mother. We first met Melissa and Bridget, followed by Marc and Brad; as part of our orientation with the administration team. Our mom began her stay in the ALF side of Discovery Commons, where she stayed for a short time. After a few weeks it became apparent this was not a good fit for mom, as her needs indicated more caregiving, more attention and a different set of services were needed. The DC team assisted us to make the transition smooth and pain-free. Once in her "new home", our mom flourished. She re-gained her enthusiasm for life and met so many new friends. The services provided for the residents included: music therapy, games, activities on the screened porch (weather permitting), ice cream socials, holiday themed activities, visits from local musicians and so much more. Rho, the Memory Care Director, became part of our family, as she consistently informed us of the happenings for the day. She sent special videos and pictures of the happy times mom experienced. It is never easy to walk the journey of Dementia/Alzheimer's, yet the staff of DC made the journey; one of peace. There are so many individuals to thank and I will miss some; but I would be remiss if I didn't send a big hug (and thank you) to Rho, Danielle, Tanya, Jean Claude, Brad, Melissa, Bridget, Armando, Melissa and Dr. Olsen. Toured Discovery Commons South Biscayne during a Chamber Leadership day. The staff were very friendly and informative. It was clean and smelled fresh. All the residents seemed happy and some were enjoying sitting outside. We got to watch a demonstration of how dementia affects a person and their ability to complete simple tasks. We just returned from spending a few days with my father-in-law who has recently moved to Discovery Commons. Our experience could not have been any better. Spending time there is like being in a small town. Residents know and check in with each other and the staff is very responsive. We felt like we belonged from the moment we walked in. Activities are abundant. My father-in-law insisted on taking time from our visit to get in his exercise class which he loves. We had live music, games, and met some great people. The facility is immaculate both inside and out. We saw people walking around outside and visiting in the halls. There are places to do crafts, exercise, watch TV (although I never saw one on), read, or just sit and visit. We left feeling better about his condition than we have in a long time. Living out of state and not being able to see him often is hard but knowing he is in such a great environment is a huge help during this time.

We moved my grandmother in the end of March. After visiting many places we chose Discovery Commons. They were very friendly and welcoming, the food looked good, the facility was clean, etc. My grandmother was a pretty strong active lady upon move in. We planned on her enjoying many years there making friends, doing activities, and visiting with us. Well my grandmother became ill a couple months in. She had an aggressive disease that came on suddenly and she rapidly declined. We never in a million years thought she would end up needing end of life care during her stay there. Let me tell you this. I have never experienced such kindness, professionalism, genuine care, respect, and love that I did from the nursing staff here. They were just as shocked as us at how quickly my grandmother became ill. We ended up needing some of the highest level of care that they offer. And I wouldn’t have wanted her to be anywhere else. I personally spent every day there and witnessed first hand how wonderfully they treated my grandmother. Like she was their own. And how wonderful they treated me and my family. I will never forget their faces and their kind words of encouragement. Know when you are considering this place that there is so much more than just pretty apartments and fun activities. There are exceptional staff that are there if the need ever arises that you can feel confident leaving your most precious loved one in their care. And that is priceless. Thank you to all of you from the bottom of my heart.

Discovery Commons is an answer to prayer! After a sudden change in my Dad's health, he wasn't able to remain at home alone. Because Discovery Commons is an ECC (Extended Care Community), he is able to receive greater care and attention with the higher level of license that the facility holds. This has allowed Dad to remain somewhat independent, and have his needs addressed appropriately. Melissa Vanderbilt-Bestor, the Senior Lifestyle Counselor, is fantastic to work with! She is attentive, communicative, trustworthy and patient. She genuinely cares about the residents, and she is a wonderful ambassador for Discovery Commons and senior living.

The admin staff here are absolutely wonderful.. and the whole move in process went smooth and well. We moved my parent in about 3 months ago. Bridget who is the head nurse here is absolutely horrible. Doesn’t hold staff accountable for their actions. She is uncaring and is cold to residents and their families. Thank you to Deborah Spear, Brad, Julia, and Judy who were the few people who made this process easier to bare. I would recommend this community once new nursing staff is put into place.

I recently moved my 93-year-old mom from Fresno, CA to The Springs at South Biscayne, North Port, FL. I was greatly assisted by Mr. Steve Barboe, Senior Sales Consultant, who has absolutely done everything to make this a smooth transition for mom. My mom lived in a single-family home she and my dad built 43 years ago. Not easy leaving all that behind. Mom couldn’t live alone anymore and she opted to move close to me; I’m in North Port too, where I could best assist her in her twilight years. From the entire business staff, medical staff, cleaning and maintenance staff, kitchen staff, one would be hard-pressed to find a better place. There are an abundant number of fine assisted living facilities in SW Florida, but The Springs at South Biscayne is a facility you should seriously consider for a loved one, friend, or to just pass along to persons having to make these hard decisions. It is my mom’s home now and most importantly she likes it. Assisted living facilities don’t always have great reputations, but this facility is not like others. It’s new, clean, and very nice. Apartments are decent size and as my mom will say, the food is very good. That’s a real plus for our loved ones. Mom can order from a menu and if the daily choices aren’t to her liking, then she can have a burger, soup, BLT, chicken or egg salad sandwich. And ice cream whenever she wants. Mom really likes that. The medical staff closely monitors all residents and does everything they can to keep mom healthy and strong. If you don’t believe what I’m writing, check it out yourself. This is very important to me as this is my mom’s home and her life. Speak with Steve Barboe for assistance and he’ll work with you however he can. If my mom should ever need memory care, which I hope doesn’t happen, The Springs has a very highly rated onsite memory care facility as well. Putting a loved one in an assisted living facility isn’t easy, but I’m pleased where my mom is at.
