Boy did I get lucky when my mom chose to live at Starling at San Jose. I live at the beach and would have preferred her to live closer to me but it turns out she picked the perfect place. The staff and caregivers are exceptional and are very caring. Especially in memory care when the residents can be challenging they are always kind and patient towards the residents. The food is great and the rooms and hallways smell clean and fresh. I do not have one single complaint.

Starling is a true community that feels like a big family. The activities are stellar, the facility and grounds are beautifully maintained, and the staff- from the concierge to the Executive Director, to the dining staff and caregivers- are resident centered, cheerful, and caring. A 5 star rating doesn’t do this place justice! I use to work at starling a few years ago as a caregiver/ med tech. Everyone is a huge family here. We worked together and the residents always came first! Everyone was kind to one another and cared about each other. I stared working a new facility due moving to a new state and it just makes me appreciate my time at starling so much more! I would send any of my loved ones here knowing without a shadow of a doubt they would be treated with the upmost respect!

horrible place.......staff always needing more workers..slow response when needing help...former head was not honest...they took away my medicine and lost it when i was leaving...i slept in my wheel chair for 5 days waiting for a hospital bed...their bed too high for my feet to touch the ground ...1 server in dining room with 14 tables to serve..management in the office not helping him..6 thousand dollars for a month in hell.

My husband and I care for my 96 year old mother who has dementia. Planning a vacation can be a daunting task when it comes to making sure my mother will be properly cared for while we are gone. That was until the day I walked into Starling of Mandarin and met Amy. Amy was very professional, personable and down to earth. Making the decision to have my mother stay in their Respite Care was an easy decision. Everything Amy explained to me about the care and services my mother would receive were not only met but exceed my expectations. She totally understood about caring for a love one with dementia and the anxiety that comes with changing their surroundings even if it was only for a week or two. The staff in their Respite Care showed such loving care for my mother. They were very professional, courteous and knowledgeable about the care my mother needed. I can not wait to plan our next vacation because now I know the perfect place that will care for my mother while we are gone "Starling of Mandarin". Thanks to everyone at Starling of Mandarin that was a part of my mothers Respite Care, you ROCK!

My father is a memory care patient at Starling during this Pandemic. Naturally, he has no understanding of what is occurring in our country right now. However, Starling has been absolutely amazing to work with given all the new protocols. The patients and staff have been regularly tested. They have been very cautious about keeping everybody healthy and safe and it is working. My father had a birthday during this time and Amy arranged a drive-by party. We have also been able to visit via Google Duo or Facetime, in order to assure Dad that we have not forgotten him. Step by step, we have been kept abreast of everything. I absolutely love Starling! My only regret is that they were not open when my Mother was needing memory care. Thank you, Starling for giving us peace of mind, and for a job well done!

Starling at San Jose has beautiful views of Goodbys Creek. I love to sit in the gazebo and watch the ducks and look for different bird varieties. Starling has some of the most caring and friendly staff I have ever seen in an assisted living facility.They have a very liberal transportation policy and try very hard to accommodate religious and social outings as well as medical trips.We have a very full activities calendar. Our enrichment coordinator is very open to any ideas the residents bring to her. You will be missing out on a wonderful opportunity if you dont consider starling at San Jose when youre looking for an assisted living facility.

I moved my mother from another facility. The difference is night and day. Eating 12 hour window. Clean and fresh all over. Great staff. My mom is in assisted living with a 1 bedroom apt. She is happy and that is what counts.

I cannot speak highly enough about this facility. My father has been in the memory care at Starling San Jose for over a year. The staff is friendly, courteous, professional and caring. One of the best reasons I like Starling is because they have a wide variety of daily planned activities to keep the residents engaged along with live music on occasion and then there are the bus excursions to outside activities such as restaurants, movies, bowling etc. or just doing some sight seeing. It is a beautiful facility and reminds me of a hotel when you walk in. The food is very good and they have buffets on the holidays and special events so you can enjoy a nice meal and share time with your family members. The memory care unit has really come a long way. Every caretaker is wonderful but Id like to recognize Ke Ke and Petrina since they are the two main caretakers for my loved one. They are absolutely wonderful!! They care about every single one of their residents and I couldnt be happier every single person from activities to nursing shows that they truly care about the residents. Thank you to everyone!!

Wonderful Community. Ive been visiting my aunt here for over a year. To be honest, care wasnt that great about a year ago. Now...much much improved! They are making good on promises to strengthen the community, both in care and in the general environment. The new nurse and Director are very compassionate and always available to talk. Place is beautiful. People are really nice. However, negatives are that the Directv package that they have is awful. No option to add movie channels and no High Definition broadcast. The internet is also very spotty and doesnt reach some of the rooms. Would love to see them improve this to match everything else there that is top notch.
