We have nothing but wonderful things to say about Maplewood at Newtown. ALL the staff were compassionate, caring and dedicated in caring for our mom. We particularly want to recognize the staff in the Club Level, a unique advanced dementia care level that not all facilities have. Kim, the director and her staff in Club Level, were so caring and respectful of our mom and cared for her with compassion and expertise through her final days. The whole team and Dave the Director of this Maplewood, provided support to our family as we navigated such a challenging time. We highly recommend Maplewood at Newtown, while no one wants to really be in a position to need this kind of service for your loved one, if you do this was a wonderful place to have.

Our cherished friend had a very good experience at Maplewood Senior Living, where he lived out his final 8 years of his life, and we’re so thankful for the care and kindness shown by the whole team. The nursing staff in particular was attentive, compassionate, and always quick to help, making sure our friend felt comfortable, safe, and respected. The support staff was just as wonderful and helped create a warm, welcoming atmosphere that felt genuinely caring and personal. He also was an active participant of many of the activities offered at Maplewood. What stood out the most was how dedicated everyone was. My dad is 73 years old and has Parkinson’s Disease. No longer able to drive, the social aspect of his life diminished greatly. Living alone was no longer a safe option and he was not eating even 2 balanced meals a day - despite meal deliveries. All of that changed when my dad came to Maplewood in Newtown. The staff and residents are friendly, helpful and know our family by name. They really care and listen to their residents. My dad’s social life is better than it ever was, He attends happy hour daily whether to share a cocktail, have some delicious appetizers, or a story and some laughs with friends. There are a plethora of daily activities such as card games, bingo, Wii bowling, gardening, and so much more. My dad takes full advantage of these programs and has been so happy. We know he is well cared for and the quality of his life has improved ten fold since he has lived at Maplewood in Newtown. MW at Newtown is the home away from home you want for your loved one. With a front desk staff that is warm, welcoming, knowledgeable and always helpful, the minute you walk through their door you feel cared for and part of the family. So much to do, daily activities are available for everyone and even special occasions for residents are celebrated, thanks to Brandi and Fran. The kitchen, run by Casseus, is accommodating and friendly. Cleaning crew and maintenance are always checking to assure the facility is clean and well kept. MW at Newtown is beautiful, like a top-notch hotel, with gorgeous grounds and quaint seating areas. The staff helps build connections and relationships amongst the residents, so their friendships turn them into family. 5 Stars all around! After scrutinizing 14 other local facilities, MW at Newtown is a hidden gem that shines brighter than all of its competition. We feel blessed that our dad is home and in the care of MW at Newtown!

My father in law passed away about a year ago, but I recently saw an article in the paper about this place, so I thought I’d share our experience. This place is great.. my father really loved it here and all of the staff went above and beyond for him. Coming to visit, we always felt welcome, the facility was clean & never had that stereotypical nursing home smell. The aides were attentive and really got to know the residents as people. The activity staff was great & always welcomed us to join in on whatever fun was going on. The only downfall was that the executive director Laurie was mostly absent, but the rest of the directors really were top notch in her absence. I’ve heard she’s since been replaced.. good.

There is nothing more difficult than finding a safe and caring place for your loved ones to live when they can no longer live alone. My parents toured a few different retired living options in our area, and selected Maplewood of Newtown at least a year before the move was necessary. While the transition was not easy, it was made easier by Maplewood admin and staff, who allowed a period of "respite" residence before any decision needed to be made to make the move permanent. The caring nature of the Maplewood environment, and the genuine warm welcome of the staff and residents, made a difficult time more manageable for my parents and also for us. My parents were quickly engaged in the many daily activities that Maplewood offered, and they found a new community of friends among the interesting variety of Maplewood residents. My father, a gardener by nature, established a Green Thumb Club within the first few weeks moving to Maplewood. Both parents took advantage of the exercise classes and mind stimulating clubs. Now, a few years later, although the aging process continues to take its toll, both of my parents still take comfort in the activities available to them, the friends that they have made, and the dependable and gentle nature of a truly caring staff. Our whole family is welcome to Maplewood to share meals, play dominos, watching movies and attend music events. We are there a few times every week. And visiting my parents, knowing that they are in good hands for daily care, has changed our role from "problem solving caretakers" to supportive children in this special chapter of their lives. And for this - we can't be more grateful.

My daughter worked at Maplewood of newtown a few years back and would come home with wonderful heartwarming stories of residents and of the staff that she worked with. She also talked of the building itself and all its amenities, the cozy lobby, the high tech movie theatre, the elegant dining room and the wonderful outdoor spaces. Not only did she describe it as a community, a neighborhood but also a family of residents and staff that truly cared for each other. When my father fell, broke a hip and then for the first time in his life needed help I stepped up and moved him into my home but unfortunately I still had to work which left my very gregarious father alone for most of the time . He needed interactions with people to keep his positive attitude going and his mind. We visited Maplewood and all my daughter’s stories came to life. I felt it was everything she depicted and more. The building and apartments are clean and well maintained by an incredible cleaning and maintenance staff. The activities throughout the day and week bring the community together for socializing, exercise and to aid .cognitive abilities. The menu is diverse with choices for every palate and being a foodie myself I was impressed. I could go on and on but what I really am the most appreciative of is the staff, some who have been there for over 10 years . If you have been a caregiver to a family member you know how taxing and overwhelming it can be. I felt by moving into Maplewood my father had an extended family that is looking out for him, keeping him vital, safe, engaged and it’s not all on me anymore. I trust them explicitly and have built relationships with them and the other residents and their family members. It’s comforting to share with all of them the ups and downs and it’s wonderful to meet and hear all of their stories. I learn something new everyday and no longer ever feel alone.

When looking for a home for my maiden aunt 11 years ago we looked at many assisted living facilities. Our family chose Maplewood at Newtown because it felt like home. The residents are warm, friendly and reach out to each other like family. The people that work there go above and beyond. My aunt still lives at Maplewood at Newtown now 11 years later, needing more care. The people at Maplewood have stepped up to the plate to continue to provide nursing care, emotional care, recreational care, and personal assistive care. She is now in dementia care. The family atmosphere created is constitued with the continued interaction fostered by the employees. Huge effort is put forth to maintain personal dignity, privacy, attempts to learn likes and dislikes of a resident and working to make all residents know they are valued. I just wanted to share why Maplewood At Newtown is such a wonderful place. After my husband passed away, my children did not want me to live alone and started looking for appropriate accommodations for me. They screened a number of places and showed me only the places they thought would be suitable for me. Included in their research was Maplewood At Newtown. After taking a look at Maplewood At Newtown, I was impressed but I wanted to see other options. That was a waste of my time because atmosphere here at Maplewood At Newtown was warm and welcoming both by the staff and residents. I've been here now for 3 years, and my decision has proven to be right, every day! One of the main reasons I chose MAN because of the proximity to my daughter's home. She has since moved to another location and suggested I move to another facility so I can be closer to her. But MAN is my home, and she can visit me here any time she wants! ..

The management team was also very helpful to my family. I highly recommend considering them for assisted living.

"Our parents, ages 89 and 94, moved into Maplewood at Newtown a year ago. Although it was initially an up and down journey for them to select a community, make a commitment to actually move, eventually sell their home, and navigate an independent living lifestyle -- they are now one year into their transition with absolutely no regrets. Maplewood at Newtown is a lovely facility with sincere, caring staff and plenty of activities. The staff is thoughtful and eager to accommodate their personal preferences to reflect their interests and habits. One example has been that our father was able to be a central contributor to the outdoor garden and there is now a "Green Thumb Club" which has been a lifesaver for him and also a great community-builder. They have met so many friends among both the residents and staff --and really are part of a community. There is always activity and others to be with right outside their door. Above all else, we, their children, are pleased they are able to age in place as independently as possible among staff, readily available, who are able to provide front-line response to any of their needs. I do not think there is a better place than Maplewood at Newtown for anyone and so grateful that we found it and to everyone who works there"'.

This turned out to be a wonderful place for my Mom who has Alzheimers to live. There are many activities and she especially enjoyed the outdoor courtyard with the building. She had a one bedroom apartment with huge closets. What makes this place so great are the wonderful people who work their and are so caring, for both my mother and us when we visited.

I've been taking my Brain & Body Balance Fitness program to Maplewood at Newtown once a month since January and I am so impressed with staff, facility, and residents! It's like walking into a spa resort, and everyone is smiling. There are multiple lounges and common areas, the dining areas are lovely (and I'm told by one of the gentleman that they get to order anything they want), there is a chic salon, a beautiful outdoor area (which we will be using when the weather is consistently lovely) and lots of other amenities and programs. Currently there is a five (or six?) week series called "Art of Changing the Brain: Healthy Brain & Power of Choice" with Dr. Kristen Betts happening. Brain function is my jam, so I've been over as a guest to listen to Dr. Betts work (it's wonderful) and there are 50+ residents attending and participating with vigor. Probably most importantly, are the staff. They are kind. It's not an act, nobody is on their best behavior when I'm there, this staff is, as far as I can see, full of very warm humans who really care about not only the residents but each other. It's such a positive environment. A final note, which as someone who both provides programs for seniors and has seen several of my senior family members through their later years: there is no smell. Neither antiseptic, nor flowery and fake, nor human. The only thing I've ever smelled is delicious food at lunch time. Maplewood at Newtown is just a nice place to be.

We were very lucky to have found Maplewood for our Mother when she moved 3 years ago. The staff is wonderful, with both residents & families, and they instill a caring environment. As a family member, one must be pro active in the ongoing care of your parent. There have been many overall improvements since Mom has moved there, though the food could still use improvement. We would recommend Maplewood at Newtown.

My parents have lived at maplMaple of Newtown for three years. In that time, Luisa Deoliveira and her RCA staff have taken wonderful care of my parents. Sadly, in May my dad passed away. Luisa, Jackie and Julie, gave my mother all the physical and emotional support she needed to handle his passing. No other facility offers the type of program for patients with dementia that Tides offers. The cosistancy of staff makes life familiar and safe for all the residents to live with dignity and supportive independence. I wouldn't have my mother live anywhere else. Luisa and her staff make it feel like home and they care for her just as I would. All the staff is friendly and kind from the wait staff to the activity coordinators to the cleaning crew. They all know and interact with the residents. I would reccrecom Tides at maplMaple of Newtown to anyone looking for a safe and supportive home environment for their loved one living with dementia.

There are some wonderful staff members but they are understaffed. Instead of new carpeting amd furniture for show, we would like more CNA's Watch your bill! My family member was overcharged several times.

In 2012 my mother came to live at Maplewood in Newtown. At that time she was not doing well physically. She had been living alone, not eating well, not drinking water staying hydrated, and socialization was minimal. Since her placement at Maple Wood at Newtown she has flourished. Unfortunately the cost of Maplewood has doubled and her funds will probably be gone before she is. That would be about 500,000.00 later. We are now trying to figure out how to tell her she will need to move out of the place she finally calls "home ". A place where she knew fellow residents from both her high school days and the days of raising her family in nearby Bethel. We do wish she could stay at Maplewood for the rest of her life, but she no longer can afford to. We thought we had figured it out financially with advisors & lawyers, but the increase in cost came much faster & larger than anticipated.
