Report of iPhone Eavesdropping

Shortly after an elderly individual went to Maplewood, the individual made calls to a friend, the friend answered, spoke for a few minutes with the individual, and they hung up their phones. Immediately after, the individual's phone rung the friend one or two times. The friend answered, but the elderly individual was not on the other end. Only silence. CREEPY ! The friend called back, but the elderly individual didn’t answer. The pattern repeats for months, and matches : a person at a remote location unlawfully using an iPhone to control and eavesdrop on the iPhone of the elderly individual talking with friends whose phones are also unlawfully being spied upon, and called back by someone silently listening. We’re concerned enough about everyone’s safety to go to court to move the individual to another assisted living where a secure landline phone is guaranteed, irrespective of what an abusive poa authorizes. We reported to our phone co. which is documenting the source of the unlawful calls for court. If you have noticed this or would like to whistlebow, please describe in a comment.

While at Maplewood, in her bedroom, Grandma called home during the night to say, "Something’s not right here ! “ She sounded out of breath to point that it was hard for her to talk. And, recognizing that her lungs were filing with fluid from her heart condition, our family tried to call Maplewood at 203-207-4100, but the phone kept ringing and ringin, and there was nothin we could do about it. We had a problem to immediately take care of. We had to make a phone call to Bethel PD for a wellness check, and they didn’t call back. We made some calls to a medical center, and they didn’t call back. We called Maplewood for hours, and the entire time, caller id display was required, making us realize that they were screening calls, and wouldn’t answer the calls of the family of the person who called for help. Finally a nurse said, we checked on her earlier today and recently, and she’s “OK.” We all know that evasive answer isn't specific enough to pass nursing school ! It doesn't take a genius to know that something is still not right. There never was any evidence that they actually checked grandma’s vitals. A month ago, the staff claimed she left her phone in another room for days, but we knew she didn’t and they were blockin family from checking up on her. Terrifying to all ! Nightmares for all ! Grandma would be safer with a medically trained, alert dog, by her side, at home !

There’s more to a warehouse for old people than its food. The laziness of this building, in not taking people to a medical center with Real Doctors so that they’ll rot, will put y'all in a bad mood. If y'all need to, you can drive anyone from Maplewood to the Train Station. But, transportation aint gonna make Maplewood good. Abandoning elderly ladies and gentlemen to watch TV all day aint help with nuthin. We treat our elders with compassion that this building aint got.

Good Grandma’s Grandchildren

When your Grandma has a serious health condition such as heart failure with cardiac cough and pink sputum, out of breath with pulmonary edema, low oxygen, confusion, impaired thinking, and brain fog with poor memory, Maplewood is NOT designed to provide the highest level of medical care that Grandma needs. There was no PT, no cardiologist and neurologist looking after her, as promised by a lousy spouse. Maplewood is the sort of place where there is no verbal or written confirmation to all of family that its medical doctor has obtained all the medical records, which might lead to medical errors, including incorrect placement in memory care when medical care is the primary need. When memory symptoms are from heart failure, liver disease, or kidney conditions, but not Alzheimers, Maplewood is unaware, and continues with useless Alzheimers med’s, causing incontinence which is cruel to Grandma. Please, if Grandma needs the best medical care, please keep her at home, and call an ambulette to safely bring her to medical specialists affiliated with a large hospital. Grandpa didn’t notice that Maplewood gave him the heart diet, inclined bed, and bed guard that his ER doctors wanted for him. Assisted living doesn’t really mean highest level medical assistance and safety. Grandma goes to sleep at 6:30 because they don’t take her to the terrace or pond for some movement for heart health. They don’t assist with telephone to keep grandma connected with grandchildren.

This place is NOT like a hotel with amenities. It is about power and control. Anyone with Power of Attorney can block installation of a direct phone line into a relative’s room, even when a relative's cell phone is being mysteriously adjusted to isolate from relatives. They don’t seem to take a diet plan for medical conditions seriously, or IM exams seriously. If you don’t have p.o.a., you can forget about being informed of anything about a relative, including any notification of a relative being checked out for a day. However, if someone in you family has a unique legal qualification and skills, you could still find out in advance. P.O.A. is a cruel and barbaric tool that these places use, not for the medical benefit of the patient, but to the satisfaction of any power-hungry, p.o.a., unqualified relatives without a medical, educational background. When a memory care “inmate” doesn’t call for days, it speaks to this “overlook” hotel not assisting in reminding them to call friends etc. In contrast, 5 start Hotel concierges attend to their guests, inform them of all phone calls, and make sure that their phone works.

Moving a family member into memory care can be one of the most difficult decisions of a lifetime. I was petrified of leaving my mom someplace new in her vulnerable state. Before the move-in process to Maplewood at Stony Hill, Lauren, Amy and Shelby were there to answer all my questions and reassure me when I was worried that they would assist every step of the way. That has been the case. Maplewood at Stony Hill has treated my mom and me with the most gentle and kind touch. While there have been moments that haven't been perfect, I know that my mom is safe, clean, treated with respect and in the best hands. I visit her often and see firsthand that she is treated with great kindness by all including the nurses, doctors, activity directors, aides, kitchen staff and facilities managers. There are constantly activities going on from balloon volleyball, to quilt making and music performances. The facility itself is really beautiful and comfortable. My mom's room is always spotless, her laundry cleaned regularly and the staff ensures that my mom always looks her usual put-together self - even with scarves and jewelry! The food is very good and plentiful and I am always amazed at how smoothly the meal process goes considering this is a challenging population to work with. Communication at Maplewood at Stony Hill is terrific. If I have a concern or suggestion, I know that I can go to a number of different individuals including Lauren and Shelby and will be met with leaders who are willing to work WITH me to make sure that my mom has all she needs. I am so grateful that I found this facility. My mom is content and safe and I couldn't be more pleased.

I have met so many wonderful residents and their families over the years creating memories that I will hold on to forever. Many of the Stony Hill staff members have been there for many years, thus creating an atmosphere of trust and continuity for the residents and their families - a critical element in providing a stable environment in a Memory Care facility and I wish to applaud the staff at Stony Hill for their neverending care and commitment to this community. With that in mind, I would like to offer my observations regarding the wonderful people who make up this outstanding staff, many of whom have been there since the beginning. Christy and Pat at the front desk are so helpful and welcoming and they clearly know not only the residents but their families as well. I would especially wish to shout out Christine, the Memory Care Director. I started working directly with Christine when she was working the second floor 8 years ago. Her knowledge and commitment is so strong and it is eminently clear she is well respected by both her staff as well as the residents of the community. Audrey and Patricia, the Lifestyle Coordinators who work with Christine create fun and engaging activities for the residents through their innovative programming. Gary is the inventor - creating wonderful clever games and tools for the residents. I would also like to laud Carlos and George from the maintenance staff, Jason the Culinary Director and Minnie and her staff. I constantly see them talking to the residents and assisting them in the hallways when appropriate. I also wish to commend the very competent nursing staff and the RSA's with whom I frequently interact.

Maplewood at Stony Hill has been a good fit for mom with their focus on memory care. Specifically the staff is patient and knowledgeable in dealing with memory issues and the space is beautiful and a manageable size. Additionally it has a nice outdoor space the residents can enjoy and a good layout for the rooms. Overall mom's reaction has been that the location is comfortable, she enjoys the food and with time she has been increasing her engagement in the daily activities. She appreciates the one on one attention from nursing, the aids and activities staff. During the transition, the Maplewood team fully engaged on topics that were important to us and made the initial move as easy as we could expect. These ranged from larger medical transition needs, to supplying furniture so the initial move was easier, to little things to help ease mom's transition. As expected with any move of this magnitude, there are learnings on how to work with the team. The team is busy, but there have been a couple individuals who have been very helpful to get us information or to make things happen as needed. Overall we have been very happy with the choice.

As a frequent vendor for years as Maplewood Stony Hill, I can attest to the excellent quality of care residents receive. What makes this community unique is the sole focus on providing varying levels of care, each one uniquely appropriate for those experiencing memory loss. Residents can transition between the floors as their condition progresses or improves without having to move to another community. I find the staff to be extremely dedicated to the well-being of the residents. Each time I've been on-site, I notice a very familiar vibe. Residents and staff have truly touching relationships and I have observed genuine respect from both for one another. The Memory Care Director, Christine is creative, compassionate and dedicated. I believe residents enjoy both the indoor and outdoor spaces and know the programming is customized for residents attention levels and quite robust. Finally, the cuisine having eaten there several times is wonderful! If you're searching for a place you can feel comfortable transitioning a friend or family member too, I highly recommend Maplewood Stony Hill!

My mom has sever Alzheimer’s finding a place for her was difficult. I reviewed all the local memory care facilities and Mapkewood was far superior than all other around the area. My mom has been a resident of Maplewood at stony hill for over a year. I could not be happier. The level of care is as good as it gets. I am kept in the loop at all times. Communication is very good the atmosphere and cleanliness is outstanding. It is a little pricey however for the the level of care that she receives I could not put a price on.

My mom became a resident about 5 months after she was unable to remain in her home due to her dementia progression. Being someone in health care for many years, this was one of the most difficult decisions our family had to make. We wanted my mom to age in place at her home that she has been in for over 56 years but we found it to be impossible as she was forgetting where she was and wanted to leave. We made the difficult decision to place her at Maplewood Stony Hill and it was the best decision we made in a difficult situation. The staff particularly the DON,ADON and Activities Director are angels in disguise. They are compassionate and kind. Giving of themselves every day. Not only do they take care of my mom but they take care of me by calling to update me on how she is doing since I live out of state. The entire staff has ben helpful and kind to all of us and we are truly blessed that there is a place like this available so close to my siblings and my father for my mom to live out her remaining years. Alzheimer's is devastating to the person who has it but even more so to the family that is watching it happen to their loved one. I can only hope that in my lifetime, there is a cure but in the meantime; Thank you Maplewood for being there for all your consumers and their families. We appreciate you.

Maplewood at Stony hill has been wonderful for my mom as well as for myself. From the beginning the entire staff embraced her and have been so supportive. I moved my mom here from out of state to be closer to me after my dad's passing and the staff knew how difficult this move was for her. Everyone immediately made her feel comfortable and safe. The director of nursing as well as the nursing staff have been great, responding quickly to any medical needs. Maplewood has been a wonderful safe and caring environment for my mom which has given me a great sense of peace and comfort.
