My parents have been at Brookside for nearly three years and they are doing well and are happy to be there. Highlights include (in no particular order): 1) caring & respectful staff across the organization, 2) meals and cocktail hour, and the numerous parties with special menus, 3) really good activities: gardening program featuring raised garden beds, games, live music, arts and crafts - quilting/ crocheting / painting / flower arranging, 4) excellent front desk staff - very friendly, and very "on top of things" - registering everyone who enters and exits, staying on top of all deliveries, the transport service, etc., 5) the onsite nursing and nursing assistant staff - responsive, caring, friendly, 6) tight integration with quality external care providers (e.g. physician's assistants, physical therapists, podiatrists, etc.) and availability of community transport for external doc appointments, 7) comfortable, clean, well maintained rooms, many with kitchenettes and large bathrooms, and plenty of closet storage, 8) the beautifully maintained grounds that offer a nice mix of sun and shade, with smoothly paved paths for walking that have benches along the way, 9) the warm and comfortable vibe the whole place had from the beginning and still has.

I was so impressed with THE RESIDENCE at Brookside property, and with their staff. I was visiting a close, family friend, who was transferred there on July 1st, 2026, on their birthday. What a great birthday gift, thanks to his Conservator, Nalida Perez. Reflections Director, Kevin Baird, handled the transition quite smoothly, and was very accommodating and welcoming. We were given a tour of the property and we were impressed how well they maintained their property inside and outside. The staff and residents are all so nice and all welcomed our friend with open arms. The programs they offer the residents are amazing and having a Chef to prepare the residents food, is the icing on the cake. Guests can dine with their loved ones for only $25. Very affordable, considering the high quality food they have listed on their menu and prepared by a Chef. I will highly recommend this place to others, who are looking for placement for their loved ones. Thank you, Kevin Baird, for taking such great care of Paul.

I am so impressed with the staff at Brookside, particularly with Kene and Stacey who helped me with a cross-country move for a family member. They went above and beyond to help us to choose a perfect room and even allowed us the use of some furniture until my brother’s arrived. Their program of pairing new residents with ambassadors’ has helped to make my family member feel welcome and at home. The engagements are varied and include many interesting and gun topics. At this point I have to check to be sure my plans with my family member don’t conflict with the engagements that he loves so much! I feel confident knowing my family member is known and cared for at Brookside!

The NURSING STAFF - Agnes (Director) and team has been nothing short of spectacular to our mother as she encountered challenges over the past 4 months. They are attentive, flexible and tuned in to exactly what each patient needs to get them back to healthy. Our mom is quite frail...when she became bedridden the staff responded with hand feeding...regularly adapting medications and support of every kind....adding staff to monitor/assist as needed...calling in the outside PT and Doctors as needed....prescribing, receiving, adjusting and administering meds....and she got to the other side! When Mom became ill again, Agnes literally went to visit her in rehab TWICE. As Mom's rehab situation changed, Brookside adapted and stood ready to welcome her back and even lead the transition for us because immediate family was out of town. I never ever feel like a bother. I am always made to feel special and like our Mom is a valued member of their family. Brookside is worth every penny....all one has to do is spend time anywhere else and you will quickly learn...from the Nursing Staff to Management (Stacey Tucci)...to the front desk staff to the daily caretakers....even the Residents....this place is absolutely wonderful.

The physical therapy department was my favorite part. They were fun, energetic, and on top of things. some of the other staff not so much. The cleanliness was lacking. There was also some attitude from certain staff members. I did register complaints with supervisors to discuss these things. In my opinion to sit in waste of any kind for over three hours it’s unacceptable. To say that they have come in and swept and mopped your floors yet there’s still feces on the floor is unacceptable.

From the moment she arrived, she felt welcomed by the friendly, caring staff who go above and beyond to make sure everyone feels at home. Residents came knocking and introducing themselves within hours of her arrival. They create a feeling of community. Some fun highlights to mention are the daily social hour where residents, friends and families can come together chat, listen to entertainment and sip a drink if they wish. My mother-in-law is very pleased with the dining. There is a variety of tasty options that are served fresh, Ever day she has the chance to be served in a cozy restaurant atmosphere. Unfortunately, my MIL broke her ankle the day before she arrived. The medical staff was attentive, responsive and made sure her needs were met. It gave us all a piece of mind that she is in good hands. All in all, it's a fantastic place and we are happy to be part of the community.

A five-star rating is in order for The Residence at Brookside (Avon, CT) as it has served and continues to serve the needs of my beloved 88-year-old Aunt. Big shout out to Reflections Director Kevin Baird and his staff as they helped us transition our Aunt from a lengthy stay at a rehabilitation facility back to Brookside this week. Not only did Kevin maintain excellent communication with our family throughout my Aunt’s illness and recovery, he visited her at the rehab venue and accompanied the Brookside driver to transport our Aunt safely back to Brookside upon her discharge from rehab. What’s more, Kevin’s Engagement Assistant, Shelby, decorated our Aunt’s bedroom door with colorful signage, streamers and mini-balloons, welcoming her back to her home at Brookside. Special thanks to Agnes and Juliet for coordinating, supporting, and monitoring our Aunt’s medical condition and connecting our Aunt with a variety of health care professionals and service providers. Additional gratitude to our dining room server, Jennifer, who is always pleasant, kind, responsive, and attentive during our meals at Brookside! The entire kitchen staff has been wonderful, and the food is very good! Kudos to Tahira at the front desk for being polite, friendly, and helpful every time we walk through the front entrance! Sincere thanks to the Brookside van drivers, Jean and Rick, the activities director/s, the custodians, and once again, to the Reflections staff including Charmaine, Ann and others! It would be an understatement to say that my father is a challenge. The staff at The Residence at Brookside, particularly in the Reflections Care Unit, have been nothing short of exceptional in managing his many behavioral challenges. More importantly, they have provided invaluable support in helping me navigate his care from another state. As my father’s health has declined over the years, there have been many instances where I could not be there as quickly as needed. The staff has consistently gone above and beyond to keep me informed promptly when incidents occur. Being my father’s only remaining family member, I sometimes feel overwhelmed by the responsibility of his care. However, the compassionate and dedicated team at The Residence at Brookside has eased that burden, making me feel supported and reassured. They have become an extended family to me, providing not just care for my father but also emotional support for me. The facility itself is beautiful and meticulously maintained. When I visit, I am always greeted warmly, and the staff takes the time to check in on my well-being. Their kindness and attentiveness make a difficult situation more manageable. The executive team maintains regular communication with me”sometimes on a near-daily basis”and I never feel like I am imposing when I reach out with concerns. I truly don’t know what I would do without their support. I highly recommend The Residence at Brookside to anyone seeking a loving, compassionate, and well-managed facility for their aging loved one.

My mother has been a resident at Brookside for several years. The building and rooms are lovely and the staff is very nice, though mostly new, as there is a lot of turnover. However, things have definitely gone downhill since she first arrived. To Carl's review point, the quality of the food has gone down and the chef does not follow the prepared menu at all. I have eaten with my mom and gotten baby carrots just spilled out of a plastic bag instead of lovely sounding honey glazed (or similar), used to be lovely pieces of salmon, now is previously frozen tail ends and, when I ordered a salad that was supposed to have feta and sliced almonds, instead it just had grated carrots and some tomatoes. I have also been for lunch and residents have waited 30-45 minutes for their food and complained; this is because of understaffing (wait staff works very hard to help). My mother and I have also been served frozen pie. The residents always like wine at 4, with nibbles. Staffing shortages may be common at senior residences, but we have found that the aides aren't always on top of the details of a particular resident's care or something like a shower just gets missed. The aides and staff are very nice and work hard; my mother is happy, though we are less so.

You crave a detailed review...here it is...with the 'why' and the 'what' behind my rating. We recently found ourselves with a week to move a partially disabled 85-year old 'reluctant to leave her home mother'. We had previously looked at all the usual places in the Avon/Simsbury area. Brookside had stood out for many reasons that the typical 'tour' highlights: Small & Personal (not too large), feeling like a home rather than a hospital, amazing food, excellent community, the range of services and amenities/activites etc. If you are looking you make a list, line up all the places and they all sort of blend together...right?...well...read on... What matters is what happens AFTER you say 'YES'. So many times we read reviews that talk about all the selling points...but Brookside...the Selling Points are WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU SAY YES! First off, the Sales Team (Susan & Jenny) were literally available at any hour to answer all of our questions. They were able to furnish a 1BR unit with literally hours to do it. They arranged a nurse to assess our mother who was over an hour away in a rehab hospital pending release. They never gave us one bit of trouble/concern about mom coming directly from a rehab hospital....RATHER...they spoke in terms of how they could deal with her needs AND how they could reassess her level of care as she improved. They allowed us to take financial possession of the unit (meaning pay occupancy not services) for a day so that we could get the unit all set up for Mom's move...we wanted her to enter a 'ready to go' home rather than an empty place. They even actively visited the apartment while we decorated and helped us with our needs/questions. OH, they immediately sent in their amazing onsite service person to address things like moving shelves down, moving pictures and minor little things that needed repair. Our move-in day with Mom was wildly successful. The entire team greeted us. We were blown away with how each staff member came to the apartment with energy and enthusiasm to meet Mom. We dined and I have to say I could not get over the restaurant quality food! Shrimp Scampi for lunch...or Filet...like you can literally have that 2x a day if you like. The server JUSTIN was more like the type of person you would hope for at a high end resort or club....he was warm and engaging. Over time he has learned Mom's likes, including whipped cream, and makes sure she gets it on all her desserts....he even arranges to have her steak cut into slices to make it easier for her. The attendants, simply warm & loving. They are encouraging and loving. They come within minutes of being paged...always happy and patient. When they assist Mom to meals they always introduce her to other residents. She never eats alone unless she wants to....they literally bring her over to people they know she will click with AND the RESIDENTS ARE SO WELCOMING!..more on this in a minute. The Nursing Staff reinforces that you are in good hands. The lead, Janet, is ALL OVER IT....she had Mom's medications moved from her hometown within a day. She had already reassessed Mom and recognized that her abilities were above what her initial assessment had been a week earlier (meaning lower cost to Mom). You can contract to use their On-Call Nurse Practitioner and I must say THAT was EQUALLY impressive. Amy visited on the first weekday. She spent SO much time with Mom knowing her. She went through the medications and together we discussed and adjusted. She will proactively check in on Mom every maybe 8 weeks and they have 24/7 on call. Stacey, the Executive Director has literally texted me with updates on mom....she even went to her room to encourage her to go to a monthly music festival that Mom was reluctant to attend..Stacey literally TOOK MOM. Even Heather at the front desk is amazing....one day Mom wandered up and asked if they could play Sinatra....guess what....Heather was so happy to make that happen. Residents! WELCOMING! Intelligent! Engaged! Kind! No cliques. SUPER interesting!

Susan and Jenny went above and beyond to help our mother move from her home of 58 years and an acute rehabilitation hospital to the Residence at Brookside. They worked miracles and magic and provided outstanding support to get my mother moved into her new, gorgeous apartment in this very warm and welcoming community within an extremely short timeframe. Susan and Jenny were essential in making this transition for our mother a huge success. They worked through every detail and responded promptly to every question and request we had. They were truly professional and kind. Our entire family is eternally grateful for their help. My mother LOVES her new home and has adjusted beautifully thanks to Susan and Jenny and all the wonderful staff at The Residence at Brookside. I’d give ten stars if I could!

My father stayed here in a lovely one-bedroom Assisted Living apartment for a couple months after he had a fall and before moving into Memory Care. We were very happy with the experience there. The staff were all very helpful and supportive, taking the time to understand and appreciate my dad and help us navigate this journey. The food is really good, with a great menu, and they had some nice activities - music concerts and trivia programs - that he enjoyed while he was there. And the place itself is really well-designed and beautiful, with touches that make it feel like home. The apartment was fabulous, with a view of the Heublein Tower. We were sad when we had to leave for the next step in this journey, but I'll always be grateful to Brookside for taking my dad in at the time when we needed it and for taking good care of him. The Residence at Brookside has been a wonderful place for my parents to live as they have navigated/navigate through to the end of their lives. Brookside has always worked with our family to provide the best living arrangement possible for my parents. When my parents had to enter a senior living/care situation in 2017, they were able to enter at 2 different service levels, my father at Assisted and my mother at Independent, which helped financially. When it became necessary for my parents to move to the memory care unit, Brookside allowed them to move together, as a couple, into the same room. This was important to the emotional health for both my parents. While they both were suffering from dementia, my father was not as serious as my mother, and he still felt the need to care for her - most of all they still knew they were the other's spouse. They were caring for each other until the day my father passed away. The caregivers at the memory unit have always been caring and gentle as my mother's dementia has continued to erode her capabilities. She always looks nice, has her nails and hair done to make herself feel special. She enjoys the music programs they host and the games they play. The bottom line is that I feel very comfortable with my mother's care. As a person sinks into the lostness of dementia, while they might not recognize people, they know how people make them feel. I know my mother feels loved there.

If I could add stars to this review, I would!!!! From the very first communication I had with the director, I felt I had finally found a residence for my father that would care and support him in all the ways he deserved. The staff is not only professional but sincerely caring. The apartments, dining and recreational areas as well as the outdoor garden all provide a sense of home and warmth, they are clean and set up for safety and simplicity yet there is nothing institution about how you feel when you walk into the door. The food is not only delicious but prepared by talented culinary professionals with a health-minded approach. The staff was dedicated to us and our transition with sensitivity and compassion as they guided each step with knowledge and compassion. The nurses and staff that take care of my father daily are engaged and hardworking. Making the decision to remove my father from his home was both complicated and very emotionally difficult. We could not have had such a positive transition without each staff member that stepped in to listen and guide us. Every day I am grateful to have found them and to know my father's quality of life has been enhanced since he joined this community.

He was in the memory care unit where every day the staff there made sure he had the highest quality of life that he could could attain. He was treated with dignity, respect and genuine affection.
