My aunts have been at Brookdale for 4 months now. Overall not a bad place for your loved ones. However, the photos you see on the website do not reflect the actual facility. My aunts are in memory care which is divided from the rest of the facility as it has to be locked at all times. The meals they serve in memory care are not great and very different from the meals they serve in the regular senior care. They advertise activities and events however they do not do the same events for memory care patients. They park them in front of a TV for most of the day everyday. Besides management, the staff is really great and hardworking. They are really great with the patients. I have seen the director but he has never made an effort to introduce himself to our family. We pay a good chunk of money to keep our aunts at this facility because we have no other choice. While we do not expect perfection because we know how difficult dementia care is, it seems like they could do better overall.

I work as a healthcare administrator so my comments might seem a little picky / more detailed than others. Brookdale started off on a good foot. My mother was semi-happy with the move and things seemed to be going reasonably well. Facility-wise, rooms are quite small with minimal natural light. Dorm sized fridges placed on the floor can be hard to reach (and view inside) for residents with mobility issues. Activities are the typical assortment. Most staff were reportedly friendly (especially the maintenance guy), and engaging. Sales leader Gina was always upbeat and extremely responsive to email. And generally speaking, if she didn't have an answer to a questions I could count on the fact she would find it and reach out soon. Very reliable. Unfortunately that's where the positive comments end. Starting with the person leading the staff, Ashley Schroeder. I found her to be disrespectful, and likely not very knowledgeable about operations or the business of AL in general. She will not respond if you happen to ask questions she doesn't like - you'll simply be ignored. The facility isn't that large...I find it hard to believe that she would be "too busy" for discussion with resident families...but outward appearances suggest she feels this way...pretty sad. When residents sign a contract they are obligated to also sign up with Remedi, a prescription drug delivery service. You have no choice. If you didn't already know, Remedi is known throughout the industry for its widespread billing errors. We experienced the same. Brookdale closed its eyes and points to Remedi if there are problems. In fact, Brookdale won't even help anyone disengage with Remedi upon move-out, in spite of forcing this company on you at move-in. Don't bother emailing Ashley Schroeder, either. You will be ignored. Last, my mother suffered a medical crisis one day. According to staff her blood pressure was dangerously high. It took well over 15 mins for the front desk staff to contact EMS for transport to the hospital. The reasons given were "the printer wasn't working" and that "I had to clean up after another resident". I was later told (by Gina, not Ashley of course) that the employee was terminated. Even if that's true, what does it say about hiring practices and employee training? The safety culture in this facility? Do you want your family member to be there when this happens to them?

Knowing what a difficult job it is to care for the elderly, we think that the Brookdale Arvada does an exceptional job caring for our mom. They are loving, kind and professional. They value humor and take every opportunity to celebrate life with their residents. Special Kudos to Allyson who has gone far above to provide fun outings for the residents on a consistent basis. She is safe, inclusive, and especially interactive with those in her care. Thank you all for how you take care of our mom and for loving her as we do!

I placed my mom at Brookdale Arvada Memory Care in the summer of 2021. She has advanced dementia and we were assured that she would be checked on and taken to the bathroom every couple of hours. We were also told that there would be 5 memory/mind stimulating activities daily. The majority of what we were promised, never happened. My mom spent 3-4 hours at a time in her room alone and unattended. The activities rarely happened and she declined both physically and cognitively very quickly. When we would go see her, she was often wet and smelled of urine. Her room was not cleaned consistently and especially the bathroom sink and counter were often filthy. There were times that wet bed sheets remainded in her hamper for 2 days. They were not placed in a bag and her room wreaked of urine. When I called the facility, I consistently did not get an answer. If there had been an emergency situation, I likely would not have reached the staff. When my family went to visit, we often stood at the secured memory care entrance up to 15 minutes before someone let us in. In addition, I made it very clear from the start that my mom needed consistent cueing with eating. It was rare that someone closely monitored her at mealtime. After being there 2-3 months, she lost over 10 pounds. If your loved one has advanced dementia and is totally unable to advocate for themselves, I caution you against moving them to Brookdale Arvada. There were a couple of caregivers that did their best to care for my mom, but they were understaffed and did not operate according to a diligent and professional set of standards. There was consistent agency staff who knew nothing about the residents and their unique and individual needs. Several of the staff members that I grew to trust and respect, didn't stay. It was a very stressful period of time for our entire family.

Amazing facility. It's very warm and feels like home as soon as you walk in the door with the beautiful living room. All the staff is extremely friendly and everyone is very inviting. My family is very happy knowing that our loved ones are in such great care here. I highly reccomend this place to anyone that is looking for a great place for their family to live at.

I had the most spectacular time when I visited Brookdale Arvada! I took my grandma there and the activities director approached us almost immediately and asked if we'd like to go on a walk of the community with them. We declined as we were going to go shopping after we had visited the community. It was a pretty incredible experience and she absolutely was in love with the community. We had the chance to run into the executive director and the business office coordinator and they were both absolutely wonderful, inviting, and friendly people that we've ever met. Given the chance that my grandma can move in there this would be an easy choice.
