Summerfield of Stockton – Reviews
We moved my 95-year-old dad into Summerfield of Stockton this past spring. I can’t say enough about the positive experience my Dad and our family are having there! Leslie (the Executive Director) and Peggy (in charge of Marketing and Family Services) are a wonderful team and are a joy to work with. Any questions or concerns I have had have been addressed immediately and a solution has been quickly found. They have created a warm, caring, compassionate, “family” atmosphere where each and every resident is well-cared-for and feels valued and respected. I go visit my dad almost daily so I have had the opportunity to directly observe the care the residents receive on a regular basis. From the moment you enter the facility, you are greeted warmly at the front desk by Sumera or Amber. There are two full-time nurses, Liz and Hansel, who meticulously keep track of the residents’ medical needs and oversee their medications. They are great about communicating with me about my Dad and I know I can always count on them. The crucial job of caregiving is handled by an exceptional group of people who are hardworking, kind, accommodating, always ready and willing to help, and full of smiles. I would like to acknowledge them individually, but won’t because there are too many of them to mention by name and I wouldn’t want to leave anyone out! A number of them have been working there for many years, which speaks volumes about Summerfield and its leadership. The building and outdoor spaces are lovely, very clean and well-maintained. The layout of 4 separate cottages allows for smaller, more intimate living and dining areas that feel like being in someone’s home. My dad enjoys the food there and I love the intimate courtyards and secured expansive green space in back where residents can safely roam or sit and talk with family, friends or with other residents. Summerfield really excels re: activities for their residents. The wonderful activities directors keep residents active, engaged and entertained with everything from exercising to games to live music/entertainment. The parties that they throw for residents and their families on holidays are something truly special! What a blessing it was to find a place for my Dad to live where the administration and staff work together so harmoniously and really care about the residents and each other. I want to thank everyone at Summerfield for making my dad and our family feel like part of your extended family. I will always be grateful to you.
My mom has been very happy and well cared for during her respite stays at Summerfield. It has a home-like atmosphere with small pods of approximately 15 residents so it’s not too overwhelming. The staff is very attentive with nurses responsible for medication‘s and delivering them to patients. I really like that my mom has many activities to keep her busy during the day. She enjoys her private room and bathroom. I really can’t say enough good things about it, it has been a very pleasant experience. Everyone working there has been so helpful to meet our needs. We will visit again soon!
My father was moved to Summerfield from Fremont for memory care. My father had dementia. All of the staff at Summerfield was very kind caring and gave excellent care to my father. We loved the facility because it was small, quaint and very home like setting. Each cottage had 15 residents per cottage which made it very comfortable for my father. Great location, grounds and garden patio area very nice and quite. Thank you to all the staff at Summerfield who gave the best care for my father.
My family and I want to thank all the staff at Summerfield of Stockton for taking such good care of our Dad during his journey with dementia. We can't complement Summerfield enough for the high quality, loving, professional care and activities they provide residents and the support, flexibility and communication offered to family members. Summerfield care is high quality in every way and is provided in a clean and well maintained physical setting. It manages to feel professional yet comfortable and homey all at the same time. It's a big plus that Summerfield is just the right size - not too big and 'institutional' yet not too small and suffocating or inactive. Everyone - from the front office staff to each person working directly with residents - is caring, skilled, professional and personable. We could not have asked for a better place for Dad to live during a difficult time.
Somerford place was truly a blessing to our family. When it became time to move my mom into a facility with a higher level of care, the stress was enormous surrounding this decision. The staff at Somerford place were kind and supportive. They helped us make a quick and relatively painless transition. They went above and beyond to make my mother feel at home from the minute she stepped foot through their door. Leslie and Peggy were a joy to work with. Any concern that I had they were quick to address and worked to find a compromise for all. We received regular updates from the nurses and staff on my mom's condition. As her health declined, I was able to transition my mom right to hospice care while maintaining an environment and people that she had grown to know and love. My husband and I are both physicians and we truly could not recommend this facility with any higher regards. They put so much time and effort into caring for our loved ones when we are no longer able to provide care safely.
When my mother in law was diagnosed I looked for a facility that would have different levels of care so that as the disease progressed she would be able to remain at one location. Somerford has provided an engaging day program when she was independent which included painting, holiday celebrations, games, socialization, and memory focused activities. Somerford is now providing her with the best live in care. Everyone is so friendly and caring. Peggy Massey and Leslie Anderson as well as the receptionists, nurse, and all other staff Ive encountered are always so welcoming. Not only have they done everything to help my mother in law adjust but Peggy and Leslie have been so understanding and kind to us as we adjust. I never feel like a burden when calling to ask questions or to check in on how my mother in law is doing. Moving a loved one into a care facility is a difficult decision but we know that she is receiving the best care. She is happy, active, socializing, and well groomed. Somerford has allowed us to step back from the stress of being the primary caregivers so that we can focus on enjoying our time with her. We are so thankful to everyone at Somerford for the great care they are providing my mother in law and the peace of mind they are providing us.
Somerford Place actually has a wonderful, friendly and knowledgeable staff from their Concierge Sumera, their med tech Sukhi, their LVNs Liz Hansel, their Marketing Director Peggy and their Executive Director, Lesley. They are geared towards providing excellent care and tailored fit to their residents and their families. Finding a great memory care unit for a special loved one is tough, but Somerford Place can help you provide the best level of care, with their compassionate staff-nurses, you can rest assure that your loved ones will be in great hands. Theyre called a 5-star for a reason
From our first meetings until Moms last breath, the team at Somerford provided exceptional care for her and was very helpful to us. When I visited, Leslie and Peggy often had some insight or a recent experience with mom to share with me. They know their residents and treat them with respect and friendship. Teresa-Manager was exceptional with face time phone calls using her own phone and sending videos of Mom during Covid. I still have one of these videos and its a treasure. The activity staff made life fun for her and the interaction kept her spirits up. When something did arise that needed attention, Leslie stepped right in personally. She didnt delegate or address it later. It was resolved on the spot. Prior to Covid, I had the pleasure of having lunch with Mom and it was delicious! Mom would beam after Teresa-Beautician cut her hair or gave her a manicure. Her room was always very clean and so was Mom! When Covid arose, the Somerford Team was amazing at handling an unprecedented situation and keeping residents safe. I could cite many, many more examples of the caring, professional team of people who deliver service in one of the most trying of situations life may offer. I miss seeing everyone now that Mom is in Heaven.
My Mother was living in assisted living until I noticed she needed more attention due to her dementia getting worse. I have friends that had their parents at Somerford Place and were quite pleased with the care. After meeting with Peggy and Leslie and careful consideration, I decided to move my Mother into Somerford Place. It was the best decision for my Mother. I noticed a difference in my Mother because she was receiving more attention with prompting and queuing, I really think she felt better about herself since dementia is a frustrating experience. The caregivers and nursing staff are kind and compassionate. My Mother never misses a day in the activity room, they have so much fun. I am glad I made the decision to move my Mother to Somerford Place.
Somerford is amazing! The staff is very caring, sweet and professional. My mom was recently a resident and she received excellent care. It is always a hard decision when you have to put your loved one into an assisted living facility, but, Somerford made the transition as smooth as possible. They answered all my questions, had great communication and provided the best possible experience, considering the circumstance. I would highly recommend Somerford for those who need the extra professional care.
Somerford Place has a very comfortable, homey feel. The staff is extremely accommodating and attentive. The residents are well cared for. It is an outstanding location for a loved one who needs memory care.
I work for an non- medical in home care agency and we have worked hand in hand with residents at Somerford Place and hear nothing but positive things. It is hard to make that transition in general with moving your loved one, however, they make this experience as easy and smooth as possible with how approachable and patient the staff is. We also have the pleasure of working with Peggy and Leslie and they both have been so AMAZING! I highly recommend Somerford Place.
After careful consideration, looking at memory care facilities from Elk Grove to San Jose, we made the decision on Somerford Place as the best place for mom to be at. After talking with Peggy, and then meeting with Leslie, you immediately get the feeling that this group cares and we thought they would do an excellent job in looking after my mom. Now, after a month of her being at Somerford, I can say that they really do a great job and have gone that extra step even with the added Covid factor. My mom enjoys and participates in all the activities, and I have noticed a difference in her since being here. They do a wonderful job at communicating and working with you, even during this stressful time, and Peggy and Teresa have made themselves available to answer questions-requests always in a timely manner. Visiting her in person is now made more difficult with Covid, but we have been able to see-talk to her with their safe outdoor visits and zoom calls and I also get updates and pictures. Overall, our family has been extremely pleased with Somerford Place and give them our highest recommendation.
I can not say enough about the wonderful care and support Somerford Place, Stockton have provided to our family. Because of a family medical emergency, we urgently needed to find a caring place for my father and everyone at Somerford Place did their utmost to help in the most personal and caring way. Peggy has been a wealth of information and a rock to my mother and myself. Thank you very much for being the angels we needed.
When my grandpa needed to transition from an assisted living community to a place where memory care services are offered, we were extremely lucky to find him a home at Somerford. I found them on a referral site, and Peggy called me within a day to make sure we had all the information required to move forward. Not once did I ever feel like I was being sold something; rather, the entire experience made me feel as if we were being welcomed into a family. The care has been outstanding since day one. We always feel my grandpa is a top priority for the staff that works with him. Each staff member goes above and beyond to make him feel useful and relevant. He is very particular about his routine, and the staff gives him the room to maintain his individualism.Communication is always top priority within the community, especially around the Covid-19 issue. While visiting hasnt been allowed for the safety of everyone, families receive weekly updates. Ive even received pictures of my grandpa in the mail as he celebrates certain holidays. Additionally, Somerford has set up Facetime and Zoom calls so families can visit with their loved ones often.Honestly, Im so happy with everything Somerford has done for our family.
Its a pleasure to write a review of the memory care facility Somerford Place in Stockton, CA, where my husband with Alzheimers disease, has lived and been lovingly cared for during the past two and a half years, having first attended their excellent Day Care program. The whole staff there is exceptionally kind, caring and patient in providing an enriching environment for all the residents, regardless of what stage their memory issues are. From the excellent meals, engaging daily activities, enjoying frequent live music, fresh air outdoor walks, games, crafts, celebrating special holidays and birthdays to being pampered with hair and nail care at the salon, and having a nurse on duty, everyone is treated with courtesy and respect. The whole atmosphere there is very welcoming, and families are welcome to visit whenever its convenient for them. (Since were currently in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, there have been changes in visitation, but the staff has been very innovative in making sure no one loses touch with their loved ones.) Somerford Place definitely lives up to their Five Star rating, and I highly recommend them.
My mother lived at Somerford for several years (she recently passed away), and we had such a good experience. I found the staff to be kind and caring, really making sure that my mother was well cared for. I got so much peace of mind knowing that she was safe and happy when it became clear that she needed more care than I could give. Thank you Somerford!
From one business owner to another business owner, Im writing to express my appreciation for the excellent service Somerford Place has provided to me. Somerford Place is a senior community offering specific assisted living for dementia residents. It has a positive feeling with beautiful flowers around the building and delicious food (at times you can smell the food down the hallway). They have many activities for the residents to do, even a putting green in the back yard and the staff are very respectful and caring to their residents. Everyone seems happy and content. Please call Somerford Place at 209-951-6500. This is one of the preferred places I would refer people to.
My grandma was at Somerford Place for about a year and a half before passing in April of 2019. The staff was so welcoming from the very beginning, making us feel like a part of their family! The new remodeled living rooms and dining rooms were such a great place to visit with grandma any time of the day! The staff made us feel right at home and treated grandma like family until the very end. The staff and management made each stage and transition so easy for everyone in our family especially grandma, and it was so wonderful to see friendly faces when the visits got tougher. I am so thankful for the experience we had at Somerford and thankful to the staff, nurses and incredible management during our time spent there. I cannot express enough what a great experience my family and I had at Somerford Place!
Kurt JohnsonBoth of my parents were in residence at Somerford for nearly three years. I wish that I could give more stars as an expression of my gratitude for the care that they received. The staff was amazing. My father received palliative care which was coordinated with the Hospice of San Joaquin. When special needs arose, they were quickly resolved. Both of my parents felt very comfortable living there. My Mom especially enjoyed the numerous activities provided for the residents. I have high regard for the leadership at Somerford Place. They are engaged, attentive, and superb in dealing with the difficult issues of memory care and palliative care. Special kudos go to the director for her people skills and the great staff that she has hired.
My mother spent the last 2 years of her life in Somerford Place, Stockton. The staff is so caring and patient. End of life is a difficult time, and the staff helped Mom relax and enjoy so many more days. Thank you to all at Somerford for your special gift of caring!
Somerford Place Stockton has been the best place for my mom. It is a small community for care, and I visit my mom there everyday. The staff and the residents are viewed as one big family. Many staff members have been with Somerford Place since the opening date. I feel my mom is safe knowing she is with her family members. The staff is courteous, thoughtful, and joyful. The staff has always been helpful in accommodating my moms needs. The community is always clean due to the staff maintaining it for all residents at all different levels. They have a great activity program as well as a wonderful dining experience everyday and is enjoyed by my mom. I would recommend the care of this community to other families for the care of a loved one.
I have a dear friend that was living alone and her memory was failing her. Her husband had passed away and I became her Power of Attorney. When it came time to realize that she couldnt stay in her home any longer, I was introduced to Somerford Place. Leslie and Peggy came to her home and met with me and my friend and explained to my friend that she needed to take a break and try a home away from home where you dont have to cook or clean. She said she would try it and we did respite for a month. She did so well, she became a resident at Somerford Place. This was such a relief to me because I wasnt sure how I was going to convince my friend she couldnt live alone anymore. My friend enjoys her life at Somerford Place and the staff goes above and beyond to care for their residents. The Administrative staff at Somerford Place has relieved me of so much stress and anxiety from the transition of moving my friend from her home, to living at Somerford Place. I appreciate all they have done for me and my friend.
Somerford Place is my saving grace. Several months ago my mom fell and broke her hip. After the surgery she was not quite herself (Dementia had set in) We tried to keep her at home with different caregivers but that did not work out too well. My health was deteriorating trying to take care of her and she was not happy at home. My brother and I decided that it was necessary to move my mom somewhere she would be safe. After researching different places we decided on Somerford. It was a very hard decision to make, but it was the best decision we madeThey have been wonderful to my mom from day one. My mom speaks Italian-English but mostly Italian these days. The staff there have been very caring. They have even googled words to say in Italian to help communicate with my mom. My mom is a strong woman and can be a little stubborn, and they are always very patient with her and try to re-direct her. If there is an issue that comes up, they are very good in communicating with me to help resolve it. The staff there from management to the cleaning staff have been great to my mom and our family. The facility is always clean and the surroundings appealing, which allows my mom to walk as much as she wants and not feel closed in. Thank-you Peggy and Leslie for all your support, and Teresa for sending me pics of my mom and Noreen for putting up with me.
Wonderful facility! The caring staff at Somerford Place of Stockton came into my life at the perfect time. The genuine support and care helped me make one of the most difficult decisions I have ever had to make regarding my mothers care. The facility is always clean and well managed. My mother is very well cared for and she easily adjusted well to her new home. Thank you Peggy, and Leslie for showing me so much support from my first inquiry about an opening. Thank you Teresa for the photos you would send me during the day while I was at work letting me know at just the right time that my mother was fine when my guilt was starting to get the best of me. Somerford Place of Stockton will always hold a special place in my heart for the all the love and care they have shown my mother and my family.
In November 2017 I was looking for a Alzheimers facility for my mother. I live in Montana and my mother lived in Lodi, California. After reading all the great reviews on Somerford Place of Stockton, I decided to try to get her into this facility. The best decision I ever made for my mother was to put her into Somerford Place of Stockton. To this day my mother has been cared for, not only in a professional manner by everyone that works at Somerford Place, but I believe they truly care about their residents. What I saw every time I visited was they treat everyone with dignity, respect and love. I believe at the end of the day all we want for our loved ones that have this terrible disease called Alzheimers is to be treated with dignity and respect. Again, thank you Leslie Anderson, Peggy Massey and all the wonderful people that took care of my mother. There will be a special place in heaven for each and everyone of you.
This home takes wonderful care of my Mother. I know she is safe and happy and I dont worry about her like I have when she lived at another facility. The caregivers and staff at Somerford are so loving and caring. They are approachable and patient with any questions or concerns I may have. Also, they have all been working at Somerford for a long time and you can tell they enjoy their jobs and love the residents. If you are considering placing your loved one here, i totally recommend it!!
We were very fortunate to have found Somerford Place as a final home for my aunt. She was a resident there for two and a half years, and in that time we were able to witness the compassionate care that she received. Our aunt was a modest person who appreciated all that was done for her. Her Alzheimers progressed slowly and she continued to be the kind and gracious person that she had been all her life. In the end as her physical body started to fail, she was cared for with love and respect. For this we were extremely grateful. We moved her to Somerford so that she would be closer to us and we could visit her more often than when she lived in the Bay Area. Our initial visit was as a result of a personal recommendation, and we liked what we saw. The monthly cost was substantially less than the Bay Area as well. I would highly recommend that anyone looking for special care for a loved one with dementia make several visits to Somerford.
I had an opportunity this past week to tour this facility and meet a few staff and residents. In the short time I was there, it was obvious to me that individual care is their top priority. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained, caregivers were happy and kind, and the overall atmosphere was comfortable and made one feel at home. I would, without hesitation, refer a family member to the Somerford Place of Stockton.
