Our experience with Brookdale is mostly positive. The staff we interact with in daily activities are professional and caring. They truly feel like they care and prioritize my loved ones health and happiness.However experiences with the higher administration are problematic- they cannot retain high quality staff- there is extremely high turnover. They ignore attempts to share concerns with them, they appears to go out of their way to avoid speaking to or responding issues needing to be addressed. We continually get charged for services they do not and are unable to provide and will not adjust billing to reflect what is actually being provided, to the point where it feels predatory. Beware.

The property is generally well maintained all be it a bit dated. The rooms are not as bright as some might like but they try to keep maintenance up and are quick to repair when necessary. The biggest challenge is the short-staffing... just a reality of the area and economy but the staff they do have is almost entirely caring and compassionate. It is routine to see management helping out when staffing levels are low and everyone tries to hustle without making the residents feel rushed. No place is perfect but Brookdale is pretty darn good!

The rooms at Brookdale Scotts Valley seemed a little bit darker and a little bit older and could be updated. The residents I talked to were very happy. They had a variety of rooms, but I only saw the studio. The common area was nice looking and seemed more updated than the rooms themselves. The staff was very helpful.

Brookdale Scotts Valley would be my first choice. It is beautiful. The staff is very nice and very helpful. The place seems to be very clean. They have an exercise room, a big dining room like a restaurant, and beautiful grounds with pathways to walk on.

Brookdale Scotts Valley is a good place. I like that the rooms are apartment style and there's a lot of people there. They have a great restaurant with a pretty good menu, and they serve three meals a day. The staff is pretty good and they have a lot of activities for the residents. I take her to her doctors' appointments, but they could also take her. They do housekeeping once a week, laundry, and bring the food to her room if she wants. They have both independent and assisted living. It would be a lot better if they opened up their other restaurant.

My experience with Brookdale Scotts Valley (formerly Oak Tree Villa) was 99% positive. My mother spent 3 years there and passed away there under Hospice Care at the age of 95. She was well cared for and happy with her living environment. I too was very pleased with the staff's attitude and abilities. Even in my mother's most difficult moments she was treated respectfully and patiently. Besides being supported by the staff at Brookdale she was also well received by the other residents. She had aphasia after her stroke (inability to speak) yet the other residents welcomed her at meals and in the common areas. As an assisted living facility Brookdale is not perfect, no such residence is but it far exceeded my expectations and those of my mother. I would not hesitate to refer a friend or other family member there. Ruth Elliot (the executive director) has done a superb job of hiring and managing since she took over her position. She has set a tone in the "home" of everyone helping each other out that makes Brookdale Scotts Valley a pleasure to live at. They have my thanks and respect for years of caring for my mother. I was there 2-3 times each week over that time period and always happy that my mother was able to live there. Thank you to all that cared for her there, Norman Tardif

Brookdale Scotts Valley seemed to have a lot more activities. They had religious services. They had different weekly group stuff that my dad would like. It was small, and it seemed a little bit more run down than the others, but they were remodeling. The kitchen area wasn't super nice. It just wasn't really appealing to me. It seemed more like a skilled nursing facility than assisted living. I saw a studio apartment, and it was adequate in size.

My husband is in Brookdale Scotts Valley (formerly Oak Tree Villa), and I like it. It just needs to be updated in terms of paint and rugs, but the layout is great. The food is good. The staff, especially the physical therapy, is great. Generally, I like it very much. They have movies, bingo, bridge, dominos, activities, birthday parties monthly, special speaking events, music groups, and make every holiday special. For 25 years, it was Oak Tree Villa, and just last summer, Brookdale bought it. They put in security in the hallways, new locks on the doors, and got a new car. They really do need to give it a new facelift. It's middle of the road: not real expensive but not real cheap.
