As long as your cognitive abilities are intact, you may be treated fine. However, my brother showed signs of dementia like behavior in the final months that he was there. Rather than recognizing his behavior as dementia, they treated him, in my opinion, without understanding or empathy. As far as I know, there seemed to be no one on staff that even questioned why is words and actions had changed. This, in spite of the fact that he had functioned very well during the first part of his life there. I do not know why staff who are dealing with people in their 80s didn’t seem to recognize signs of dementia, I requested that the staff talked to my brother with a person there who could support him. However, I believe no such effort was made. In fact in their eviction notice, they cited me as a participant in a meeting with my brother with and people I don’t even know and at a time when I was 600 miles away, caring for my pet at the veterinary clinic! The notice with the apparent lie was signed by the executive Director of Brookdale Scotts valley. In addition, Brookdale sent him an exorbitant bill for services he could not afford, and in my opinion, I don’t think they even offered there. This was one of the most traumatic experiences in my life.

I am taking the time to write this review because, like many who may be reading this, I know how important it is to have a good understanding of where you may be planning to live or perhaps, searching for a good place for a loved one to reside. Without a doubt, Brookdale Scotts Valley stands out as an exceptional community! I am friend and POA for a woman who I assisted in finding and moving into Brookdale. Over the 2 years that my friend lived at Brookdale, she was extremely happy with the clean facility, walking paths, activities, excellent food and the exceptional staff. Sadly, as time passed, my friends cognitive decline required us to move her to a memory care community. I live far from CA and over the 2 years, it was necessary for me to call on the Brookdale staff to assist me so many times, to help manage my friend's life. I will tell you that I can't possible say enough about how extraordinary all of the staff was in assisting me and going way above and beyond. General Manager Alex Baiasu is an amazing man who was extremely accommodating and understanding of both my friend's and my needs, this was also true of other senior staff, Briana and Christine. Add the amazing location and beautiful setting, I believe we could not have made a better choice. Bravo Brookdale!

I have lived here at Brookdale Scotts Valley going onto 10 years. Many things have happened. Some very good and some not so good as is with anything in life. The good outweighs the negatives by far. And I have found that when dealing with a negative here there have always been individuals here that have helped me through whatever, thereby coming out better on the other side. There are many wonderful things about this Brookdale. The staff has always been friendly, and caring with very few exceptions. Many will go out of their way for each of us. Our current Executive Director s door is always open. He is very caring and efficient and actually listens when communicating with us. And when possible we see changes that were requested. The grounds are well cared for and wonderful to walk about outside. The building is always kept clean and inviting. The attitude and energy here is great to be around. It is a joy to be living my life here.

Quality staff and care! Had a recent need for a respite stay and was so grateful to find Brookdale Senior Living in Scotts Valley. The need and urgency of our situation was taken up by Alex and his staff as if it was their own. Could not have asked for a more responsive or competent team to work thru a difficult time. The awesome facilities provided a safe and satisfying spot to land for the 6 weeks that were needed. We were treated with great respect, care needs were addressed and the staff couldn’t have been more kind or responsive to us. We were extremely satisfied with our time at Brookdale and would encourage anyone to give it serious consideration. The commitment to building a community is ever present..the activities, dining and accessibility to staff are a high priority to the executive team. And thanks to the high level commitment Alex and his staff adhere to, Brookdale Scotts Valley really is a place that could be considered home if the need was there. We will always be grateful for our opportunity to have stayed during this time of need.

My mom has lived at Brookdale (previously Oak Tree Villa) for the last 17 years! This has truly been her home and she has loved living here! She just passed 20 days shy of turning 92. Throughout the years we've seen many changes in staff and management, but I have to say, none were as kind, compassionate and helpful as the crew who is running Brookdale now. The Executive Director, Alex is wonderful! He has an open door policy and the residents really love stopping by his office just to say hi. He has so much compassion, not only for the residents, but also the families. The whole Executive Staff is so caring. No place is perfect, but I can't tell you all the residents saying they want this place as their forever home... including my mom. Her biggest fear was thinking she may have to move out at some point due to her health. Even after falling and breaking her arm and hip and becoming bed ridden, Brookdale Staff took such good care of her, along with Hospice and her wish of Transitioning there came to pass. The aides were wonderful! Brittany in particular was so close to my mom and my mom adored her. Brittany even changed her and cleaned her up once she passed, and she didn't have to do that. She told me she wanted her to go out with dignity. She literally cried when she hugged me. Not many places have such caring aides. I would like to thank so many staff members... Alex, Valentine, Christine, Christina, Brittany, Angela, Deanna, Billy Jo, Jay, Jessica, Ezra, Anna, Caroline, Rebecca, Connie and Elizabeth. (I know I'm probably forgetting someone) You all have made my mom's last years bearable when she was dealing with such difficulties. Thank you! I'm going to miss Brookdale, as it's felt like my second home. Will definitely be stopping by to say hi cuz I am going to miss you all.... my second family!

I am a physician and have cared for many residents of assisted living and skilled nursing facilities. When my father's health declined and he was no longer able to live safely in the community, I was very scared about the quality of care we could expect for what we could afford. There are no words to describe how supremely impressed and happy I've been with Brookdale Scotts Valley. When my dad was hospitalized and we were desperately searching for a safe place for him to live, their Assistant Manager (now Executive Director) came in on an off-day to show us the available rooms. When my father later suffered a stroke, the Director of Nursing was a huge support not only for him but for our family as well. Caring for my aging father is one of the hardest things I've had to do, but Brookdale Scotts Valley gave him an excellent final year. I am so extremely grateful for this community.

Not thrilled with Brookdale. Nationwide chain. I would go with a local facility like Dominican Oaks who has more connection with the community. My mother died from complications of Norovirus at this community 2 months ago. Her Doctor sent us a beautiful orchid and card. Never heard from Brookkdale after we were a resident for over 3 years. All about the money! And like recent post found out after it all that her pendant wasn’t even working over the time she was there. They never replaced the battery. Maybe she would have been better staying at home with Lifealert?

. There is always help for the residents where help is needed . Housekeeping does a great job. The dining has a very restaurant like vibe which is inviting . Servers are always polite. Activities by Chris are always over the top fun and there is enough variety for everyone. I personally love the art class with Sammy who is very kind and patient. All staff is very kind and engaging. The director always has an open door policy for the residents and staff which goes a long way.

Brookdale has been the best possible place for my grandmother to be since she crossed the Century mark! There is genuine care for, and among, the residents. I a m grateful.

Our experience with Brookdale is mostly positive. The staff we interact with in daily activities are professional and caring. They truly feel like they care and prioritize my loved ones health and happiness. However experiences with the higher administration are problematic- they cannot retain high quality staff- there is extremely high turnover. They ignore attempts to share concerns with them, they appears to go out of their way to avoid speaking to or responding issues needing to be addressed. We continually get charged for services they do not and are unable to provide and will not adjust billing to reflect what is actually being provided, to the point where it feels predatory. Beware.

Dirty carpeting throughout , not enough staff in dining room. Menu offerings do not reflect food we are served. The best thing we have going for us, is we have Victoria back in maintenance/housekeeping. Watch your billing if you are on auto pay! I hope I won't be penalized for this honest review. We have a new administrator tomorrow. But this Corporate Bottom Line living.

My experience with Brookdale Scotts Valley (formerly Oak Tree Villa) was 99% positive. My mother spent 3 years there and passed away there under Hospice Care at the age of 95. She was well cared for and happy with her living environment. I too was very pleased with the staff's attitude and abilities. Even in my mother's most difficult moments she was treated respectfully and patiently. Besides being supported by the staff at Brookdale she was also well received by the other residents. She had aphasia after her stroke (inability to speak) yet the other residents welcomed her at meals and in the common areas. As an assisted living facility Brookdale is not perfect, no such residence is but it far exceeded my expectations and those of my mother. I would not hesitate to refer a friend or other family member there. Ruth Elliot (the executive director) has done a superb job of hiring and managing since she took over her position. She has set a tone in the "home" of everyone helping each other out that makes Brookdale Scotts Valley a pleasure to live at. They have my thanks and respect for years of caring for my mother. I was there 2-3 times each week over that time period and always happy that my mother was able to live there. Thank you to all that cared for her there, Norman Tardif
