I already knew 5 people here before I moved in. Now I feel that has doubled and have made some lifelong friends.

My grandpa has lived here for over 3 years, he is always bragging about different outings and activities he's doing . Living here has really improved his overall quality of life, I'm so grateful for all the staff who make a difference in his life everyday. Cassandra you are awesome!!!

I am so pleased with the care of my grandmother. She always tells us she loves the staff, activities, and how tight knit the community is. I have been in a couple of times and have met Cassie, Karinna, and the front desk staff is always so helpful. We love Atria!

I stayed at Atria La Jolla for one month this past summer. I needed to get out of the Palm Desert heat (where I am currently living). And, I wanted to see what senior apartment living would be like. At the end of my month, I have to say, it is hard to leave. Since the day I moved in, the residents and staff have been friendly, accommodating, helpful, and encouraging. The food is excellent (I probably gained 5 pounds!), the apartments are roomy and include weekly housekeeping services. There are many activities occurring daily - from cards, to art classes, language classes, exercise options, and presentations. Every week there are field trips by bus to local points of interest, shopping centers, etc. There is high quality entertainment once or twice a week as well. All of my requests were answered in a timely, efficient way. The location is nice and within walking distance of grocery stores, nail salons, and other amenities. I have some decisions to make about when I might make the permanent transition to an apartment community like this one. But, Atria La Jolla would definitely be my first choice. Sandie Young

Thank you Atria for looking after my mom. I moved mom to Atria, La Jolla 2 weeks after my dad died in 2019. It has been a great place for her. I love the staff. Karina, the executive director has been amazing and attentive to my mom and all her needs. She does an excellent job managing the residential facility and always has a smile on her face to go along with her compassionate heart. Cynthia is always a great support for my mom and always so friendly and helpful in attending to her needs. I am always impressed by the helpfulness and the caring of the entire staff. They have created an environment that is very friendly and welcoming for their residents. There are always activities, entertainment, and special events planned, as well as transportation available for Doctor's appointments, shopping trips, and fun outings. I love the level of care and how the staff is always checking up on all their residents. I highly recommend the Atria. It has been a godsend for our family. Dr Gary Bretow

My grandmother isn't ready to move yet but when she is this is where we plan to have her move to. Angelica the Sales Director goes above and beyond. She offered movers, organizers, real estate agents to make this easy for grams.

My mom has been living at Atria La Jolla in San Diego for five months. She enjoys the friendly community – residents and staff. Eating a variety of well-prepared, healthy meals in the restaurant is a delight – it is a pleasure not to cook! Common areas for residents are welcoming, clean and stair-free. Proximity to Doyle Park for walking is a treat. Atria's staff are kind and eager to serve residents. I stayed with my mom for one week in August. I found it easy to meet residents and learn about their life experiences. We filed maintenance orders at the front desk for minor repairs in her apartment (change a smoke alarm battery, replace a bathroom sink stopper, replace a valve in a shower faucet). Maintenance technicians were responsive. One Saturday evening, I joined my mom for a concert at Atria by a local singer, Peggy Sue, who specializes in pop music from the 1940s and 1950s. During this performance, my mom sparkled as she told me the songs reminded her of listening to the radio as a young person. My mom, sister and I appreciate email updates to Atria's residents and families from the executive director, Karinna Topete, about important community events – celebrations, building maintenance, staff changes and vaccination opportunities. My mom tells me and my sister that moving to Atria La Jolla is a wonderful choice. Victoria Watkins

I have been living here for two months and I love it. I have a 2 bedroom apartment and it is great. I like not cooking anymore and eating each meal with others. I find the residents are friendly and kind. I also appreciate the staff - they are helpful, kind and easy to communicate with. Location is also good - I am able to visit all of the places I like to go. I still have a car but other residents no longer drive. I feel this has been a great decision for me.

My Aunt lives at Atria La Jolla! She enjoys it, she has many friends, and the staff is extremely pleasant and easy to talk to. Residents may participate in a variety of activities, organizations, and groups, and the view from the restaurant on the top level is spectacular. She also tells me that her rent is quite fair and inexpensive, which is why my parents, who both live at [link removed], were encouraged to relocate. She has no concerns about this facility.

My mother has lived at the Atria going on 5 years. She called me to tell me about the wonderful turkey breast dinner they were served the other night. She said it was absolutely delicious and enjoyed by all. Kudo's to Chef Abe.

My mother-in-law moved into Atria in November of last year after living in a big house alone for 20+ years and has loved it from day one. She enjoys the activities, the social time with other residents, the food and has never looked back at her previous life. Was a great move so that she can really enjoy her golden years. Highly recommend!!!!!

We love the team at Atria La Jolla! My grandpa lived there for almost 4 years until he passed in April and the team at Atria La Jolla felt like extended family. They kept the grounds clean, had great meals and great entertainment for everyone that lives there. Special shout out to Karina, Elaine, Cynthia and Issac. They were especially special to our family. I know my mom built special relationships with many of the residents that live there, chef and housekeeping Thank you all for the love and care you showed my grandpa, mom, sister, our kids and I every day. We miss you all already.

The lobby is beautiful and inviting. The activities are terrific. There’s something for everyone. I like bingo the most. You can always find something good to eat. If you don’t like something, you can get something else. The staff is excellent. One bedroom apartments are way too small and the carpeting is awful. Nice kitchen . It’s great that we don’t have to cook. I recommend Atria La Jolla. Let’s get some younger people in here.

I visited Atria La Jolla for my parents and was impressed by how comfortable the community feels and how friendly the residents and staff were. I will be encouraging them to choose this community based on the location, the awesome activities calendar, and the variety in the menu choices.

I came to visit Atria-La Jolla last week and was shown around the facility by Catt Babinski who also invited me for lunch. I was so impressed! Catt and everyone I met went out of their way to make me feel welcomed and comfortable. I was delighted with the sample apartments that I saw and further impressed by the excellent amenities, the cleanliness, the food, the menu and the dining room, the pool and the library as well as all the activities available. What started as a "just looking" venture turned out to be "this is where I want to go." I'm still a little way from retirement but feeling very relieved because I now have a plan and a place to look forward to. My thanks to Catt who made it such an excellent visit, thanks again!
May 2022
After living here for 9 months, I have to admit some recent disappointments. First, continued staffing problems in the dining room have substantially reduced the quality of meal service on weekends. Second, communication from management has lagged--such as fire inspections and alarm testing scheduled for 2 weeks ago that were never completed until this morning when they were done with no warning. Third, maintenance continues to be on a "squeaky-wheel" basis with no evidence of a system to track and complete previously submitted work orders--I still have outstanding requests from move-in. On the positive side, there is a real sense of community here from many friendly residents and helpful staff. We are generally happy to call Atria La Jolla home, but after 2 years of covid and a real hope that things would improve, it's disheartening that some of the organized services here are slipping in quality.

You definitely feel welcomed when you walk through the door- happy people milling about in the lobby, warm and friendly front desk staff. Everything is open-feeling, and very clean. The pool looks fantastic, and heated year-round. The apartments have spacious closets and balconies, full kitchens, and are well proportioned. Lovely community, and kind people everywhere.

My husband and I have lived at Atria for 2 1/2 years. We love it. The staff is phenomenol. I would name them individually but I am afraid I would leave somebody out. The food is great, thanks to our wonderful Chef and the terrific kitchen staff. Everyone is on hand to make our life more comfortable. We can be busy all day long with our wonderful activities staff. Our maintenance staff is always on hand to help us if something goes wrong somewhere. Atria has met all our expectations and then some.

Atria La Jolla offers many features that would easily draw any aging independent senior to move in…and that is what my parents did approximately 7 years ago. At 87 and 90 years of age, they enjoyed many amenities including restaurant style dining, activities and many opportunities for social interactions with peers. During the 7 years of residence here, this property experienced a lot of turnover, starting as The Patrician, transitioning to Merrill Gardens, and now Atria La Jolla. Throughout and despite these changes of ownership, this has been my parents home. When my Mom passed away in 2019 after 73 years of marriage, my father was sad and lost. Atria staff came to the rescue, reaching out to him, engaging him in conversation and helping him to feel comfortable. Little did we know that just 6 months later, my Dad would face another crises - life in the midst of the Covid pandemic. Health and general aging issues play a role as seniors age. As we all know, Covid restrictions placed a new level of challenge for senior care residences. Atria La Jolla staff met these challenges and, in my opinion, far surpassed any expectations. What defines a really great Independent Living Retirement Community? In my opinion, it is the staff. These are the people who are expected to rise to the occasion. Care, courtesy, flexiblity, teamwork, creativity, patience, kindness, knowledge, and willingness to assist in many different ways describes the staff who work at Atria La Jolla. They have gone above and beyond to meet the various levels of needs and abilities for all of their residents and my father has been no exception. There are no words to adequately thank the wonderful Front Desk staff who manage to take care of at least 12 things at once and always do this so kindly. Chef Alberto took on the challenge of in-apartment meal service delivery and his staff, who I know were overworked, always delivered my Dads meals with a happy greeting that made him smile. Francisco and his maintenance and housekeeping staff not only managed the needs of the building and individual apartments, but also greeted residents personally despite having many jobs to take care of. Activity staff listened to what residents were interested in and offered activities that met their needs within the guidelines of the countys restrictions. The teamwork demonstrated by all staff at Atria, under the leadership of Karinna Topete, is genuine! Residents and Staff are safe, healthy and now they are vaccinated and ready to return to the Independent Living Community lifestyle they deserve.

We moved my mother to San Diego a few months ago to have her closer to more family. We quickly found that the Atria fit all of her needs. We have been more than happy and even at age 88 she has easily maneuvered her way around, participates in many of the activities and uses their transportation to get to the close by JCC. She is very happy with the food and service and we are always treated so well there and we visit often. When a small problem arises they address it quickly. The guest speakers, video lectures and visiting musicians have made her stay very enjoyable and she now participates in the offsite trips that are offered. So happy that we found the Atria!

A couple of years ago both my husband and I realized that staying at home was no longer an option for my mother in law and her husband. It was time to move to a safer place. After visiting a number of locations in the greater San Diego area our family found that safe place at The Atria in La Jolla. What a welcoming and caring place that has proved to be! Whether it was us or our children visiting from abroad the Atria always made our family feel welcome. It was wonderful to see how the staff was willing to work with us to make our visits as comfortable as possible. This past November, sadly, we had to say our final goodbye to our father in law. A small service was held in the Bistro. The staff was willing to think and work with us in making the service both dignified and intimate. We greatly appreciated all their assistance and support. We would recommend the Atria to anyone contemplating moving a family member to an independent living facility. Knowing that our Mom is in good hands is a great comfort. My mother, Alicia H. has lived at Atria for many years now, her experience has been great! The staff are dedicated and caring and know the residents by their first name. The environment is always clean and they have many interesting activities, lectures and programs. The food is tasty and the grounds are very well maintained. There is also an onsite fitness center and separate from that they group fitness classes for all levels and abilities. There is a true sense of community among the residents and my mother has made wonderful, lasting friendships. It is such a comfort to know my mom is safe, happy and watched over by the caring staff at Atria!

I moved my grandparents to the Atria La Jolla here from Florida about two weeks before everything started slowly shutting down for COVID-19, so they got to experience a bit of the normal Atria life which they thoroughly enjoyed. But, what theyve experienced since things shut down has been even more telling about the staff at the Atria La Jolla. Its a difficult time for everyone right now and with the state mandated rules for senior facilities, my grandparents have had to mostly keep to their apartment for weeks now. During that time, the staff has done quite literally everything they could to keep them comfortable. They have been coordinating meal delivery to each and every resident along with additional surprises like theme carts with margaritas, soft pretzels, and other kinds of things to keep the residents engaged. They have gone so far above and beyond to try and make everyone comfortable in a very uncomfortable time and me and my grandparents are so very grateful. We look forward to being able to get back to some sort of normal at some point, but we are very happy that we chose the Atria La Jolla for them.

My parents have stayed at the Atria for a month for the last two years. Wonderful all the way around. They went out of their way to make them feel welcomed and at home. The food was excellent. Their kindness and patience was unmatched. We would recommend the Atria to anyone looking for a higher end, independent living community.
