Mark and his entire team here at Mariposa @Elwood Shores is flat out amazing! We have had both our parents in multiple facilities in Colorado over the past year. We had them in one of the nicest locations in Denver, and that doesn't even come close to the genuine love and care our parents feel here. The entire staff is trained to "do what you must to take care of the resident!" This is so rare these days, and so refreshing to see! To prove what I say, you do not have to go far, just speak with anybody the residents! They will tell you how much they love it here! Thank you Mark, Sam, and the entire team here!! My Mom was a resident in the Assisted Living Community for a little more than one and one half years. The last 10 months were spent in hospice care in her apartment. Prior to entering hospice, Mom enjoyed the numerous activities and she especially enjoyed the live music. The staff and administrators at Mariposa have always been friendly and helpful. They were especially helpful when we had to navigate from assisted living into the hospice setting. They provided attentive and loving care for Mom. When hospice care commenced many of the staff members and residents visited Mom to see how she was doing. This continued to visit even after Mom was no longer able to respond to visitors. When Mom was in assisted living, they adjusted their interactions to match her needs. During the most recent COVID-19 lockdown, the staff worked with Mom so that she could keep her scheduled activities outside of the Community. When I visited, the staff would always tell me hello and many of them took the time to learn my name. In my opinion they provided wonderful care for Mom and I would recommend Mariposa to anyone seeking an assisted living community for a family member or loved one. S. Romofsky

Mariposa is a perfect blend of large scale community amenities, and small scale community attention. When you walk in the building you’ll notice how beautiful the communal areas are, and if you take a peek at their activity schedule, you can see it’s full and vibrant. It can be challenging to find a community that feels intimate while competing with the resources of a large retirement community. I find that this is accomplished at Mariposa. But the cherry on top is the staff. They make you feel Iike family, because when you move into this community, you do become their family.

We really loved this place when my parent moved in. There had been consistency in directors, the cost was aligned with other facilities in the area, and the staff seemed to genuinely care. Through covid, services began to fray. Food was inconsistent, and we would find that additional services that we were paying for would be skipped here and there. Around the facility, little things were being missed too, like the bistro not being stocked with fresh coffee or water, umbrellas missing from a messy interior patio, the theater wasn't working for weeks, and internet goes down for days at a time. Fast forward to mid-2022, and almost all of the directors have turned over in the past 6-8 months. Residents are stressed by the lack of communication or continuity. Then a letter for a 10% increase in rents, and charges for 'amenities' that were previously included by the facility. Mariposa claims that it is to bring the facility in line with others in the area, but it actually puts them above many others.

After living independently for years, in February 2019 my elderly mother was faced with the reality that she could no longer live on her own. We looked at a number of assisted living spaces in the Santa BarbaraCamarillo area, but when we found Mariposa, we immediately knew it was the place for her. I met with the Community Relations Director, Nicholas Begane, who treated me to a delicious lunch and gave me a tour of the gorgeous and thoughtfully-designed building. At that point Id toured a number of AL facilities in Arizona, on the East Coast, and in California, and Mariposa was far and away the loveliest in every respect. It is such a warm and inviting place - thoughtfully designed to accommodate the needs of seniors, but it has none of the cliched trappings of an old folks home. Its light, airy, modern, and it provides amenities that make you feel at home and cared for in the most humane way. Beyond aesthetics, design, wonderful food, and great activities (including on-site physical therapy), what sets Mariposa apart is the staff. Simply put, they are stellar human beings who actually care about the well-being of their residents. It was clear to me from the get-go that the Mariposa Executive Director, Peter Bonilla, prioritizes hiring only people who put humanity first. From the beginning, Nicholas Begane has been our guiding angel. He made what is typically a tough transition for many seniors (especially my mom) as smooth as could be, and didnt just stop once wed signed the contract. To this day, I know that I can contact Nicholas with a question or an issue, and hes right there to help. And this goes for all of the Mariposa staff, from Peter, to Dory, Denay, Naomi, Muhammed, Ramon, the care staff & the wonderful kitchendining crew – they are all just amazing, and I know its genuine because my mother is one tough customer, and she is constantly telling me how kind, thoughtful, and helpful everyone is. I am beyond grateful for their care, and I cannot express how good it feels to know that mom is in a place where she is valued and respected. Wed always hoped that mom could live out her years at home. Thankfully, weve found a home in Mariposa.

I visited Elwood Shores on a fact-finding mission. I found the staff friendly and courteous. The residents I encountered were having a good time listening to a fellow play music for them. The facility is clean and tidy and there is lots of open space for visiting.

When giving tours of my facility I often find myself saying, Our facility is small and can therefore offer more personalized care. We are like a family here. I honestly and wholeheartedly thought this was impossible to achieve at larger facilities. I stand CORRECTED!! Mariposa at Ellwood Shores is not only beautiful the staff care about every SINGLE resident. During the Thomas Fire our facility had the unfortunate experience of having to evacuate. I decided to call facilities in Santa Barbara in hopes we could head North (instead of staying in a shelter). After a few discouraging phone calls I reached Sese at Mariposa. Without hesitation and with sincere concern for our residents (our family) he opened his doors to us. Most people dont understand how much paperwork this creates and how much work it is to get to know a new resident but again, without hesitation, Sese took it on. They took on our hospice residents, our dementia residents, residents that require lifts to transfer and did it with a loving and welcoming attitude. During their stay our residents enjoyed crafts, music and meal times together. Sese communicated openly the entire time and made their transition seamless. Frankly, I think our residents felt like they were at a resort and on vacation! Family members were thrilled to see photos (provided by the staff) of their loved ones to ease their hearts while they were in the midst of their own evacuations. There is not one negative thing I can say about Mariposa at Ellwood Shores. Its beautiful, clean, organized, their employees are competent, caring, kind, and provided individualized loving care. They provided a huge service to our facility, our residents and their concerned family members. Thank you to all of the caring employees at Mariposa at Ellwood Shores and especially to Sese for taking us under your wing and caring for the elderly community in Ojai! You have restored my faith in humanity. Thank you!
