The perpose of my wife's stay at Cadia was for rehabilitation. Her "rehab"" amounted little more than 30 minutes a day for the entire two weeks she was there. She wasn't allowed to even go to the bathroom by herself. She was never walked around the facility or given any other excercise. The wait for a wheelchair from was a disaster. The delivery people claimed they brought it, but wife told them she didn't need it. NOBODY spoke to her. People called me at near 10 o'clock and were so obnoxious that I thought it was a scam. We have now been waiting four and a half hours for it to come so my wife can be released. Rehabilitation has been a joke.

My father was in cadia for a recovery from a stroke. The PT and Ot and speech was wonderful ,but the nursing care was in need of improvement. The nurses sit in the hall on their phones while the call bells are going off. It takes forever to get a nurse and several times they forgot to feed my dad. Very frustrating for sure. The one nurse told him to get off the call bell or she would " rip it out of the wall". You have to keep an eye on your loved ones . There are a few great nurses. Night staff is questionable. If you can care for yourself It's fine, but if you can't please have lots of visits.

My grandfather is currently staying at Cadia for rehab and his experience has not been pleasant. The rehabilitation department is great, and he loves the food, but that's pretty much where the list ends. My grandfather's mattress is older than he is! Most of the protective covering has peeled off and it's got holes in the middle. He's got a bad back and has been sleeping on this decrepit thing the entire time. But the worst issue is staffing. On multiple occasions he rang for assistance to go to the bathroom and no one came. He phoned my mother at home one night because he'd been waiting for over 30 minutes and believed he would have an accident. She called the nurses station and was told that no one could help him go to the bathroom because his nurse was on break. So he was expected to just hold his bowels until the break was over. Mind you, they are giving him stool softeners and laxatives, so they are very well aware that he might have trouble waiting. There is absolutely NOTHING dignified about forcing someone who can use the toilet to defecate in an adult diaper. We've also been told by nursing staff previously that that they are understaffed and that it causes problems with them getting to the patients. Many of the staff seem pleasant but there does not appear to be any sense of urgency. I overheard the woman in the room across the hall just say that she has an issue lay night and ended up sleeping in a wet bed and that she had to yell at the nurse in the middle of the night about it. Someone also came to the facilty to investigate claims of elder abuse while we were there. So just know exactly what you're getting into if you choose to bring your loved one to Cadia. * FYI: They knew. My family complained several times. Didn't make a difference.

My uncle recently had a six week stay at Cadia after a fall and brief hospital stay. The staff at Cadia took good care of him and the staff stayed in touch with our family until he was discharged. The staff in therapy department, social services, as well as the nurses and nurses assistants did a great job caring for his daily needs. They also gave us useful suggestions about his care going forward. The administrative staff always got back to me and my family in a timely fashion.

Cadia Silverside is an excellent facility and has caring, courteous, and hardworking staff. When I first arrived, I was unable to get out of bed and was unable to do anything by myself, but through the hardworking, diligent, and courteous efforts of the staff I am better than ever and able to function independently in the outside world. A special thanks to the therapy team for their determination and another special thanks to the social workers for all their hard work. Thank you Cadia Silverside!

I have to give this nursing home a 5 out of 5. My mom fractured her hip and was brought here for physical therapy and rehab. Not only did they do an amazing job with her and she was up walking within the first week there. Not only was this place very clean but they took very good care of her. Most nursing homes that I have been in actually have that faint smell of urine or just that "nursing home" smell. This place never had a bad smell. All the staff were always so friendly and helpful. The food was pretty good also. I sometimes tasted what my mom didn't eat. I hope my mom doesn't have to go back into a nursing home for any reason. But if she does, this would be my first pick.

I cannot express enough how grateful I am for the exceptional care my mother received at Cadia Silverside. From the moment she arrived, the staff went above and beyond to ensure her comfort and well-being. The team at Cadia Silverside not only provided top-notch medical care but also showed genuine compassion and empathy at every step. They took the time to truly get to know her, making sure her emotional and psychological needs were just as well cared for as her physical health. The facility itself is warm, welcoming, and designed to promote healing in a peaceful environment. I particularly appreciated how they communicated with us every step of the way, keeping us informed about my mother's progress and addressing any concerns we had. It was clear that everyone there, from the nurses to the administration, truly cared about her well-being. Thanks to their wonderful team, my mother made a full recovery, and we will forever be thankful for the care and compassion she received. If you’re looking for a rehab facility where your loved ones will be treated with respect, dignity, and kindness, I highly recommend Cadia Silverside.

I was at this facility recently for a month. I have no idea how many people took care of me including aides, nurses, P/T and O/T, wound care, and various others including the doctors, but every one of them were kind and empathetic. They all knew their jobs and took wonderful care of me. I would not hesitate to recommend this facility for rehab care.

I have timed the call bell several times there (requesting service for my mother). One time was as long as 37 minutes and then someone came to deliver lunch. Unacceptable. My mother has Lymphodema in her legs and no one there had a clue how to deal with it. No wrap- yes wrap- no wash- yes wash. She was there for quite some time and the wound care was very lacking. She ended up back in the hospital with her legs infected again. Not returning there for certain. No bathing except sponge bath when i insisted. Employees there -with the exception of a few are there to help patients- not party amongst themselves. Employees park in the visitor parking. Many visitors cannot walk the mile trip from further parking lot. I was told to put a mask on which I generally do anyway- but neglected one day. I responded by yes I will just as soon as you pull yours over your nose. Many other situations happened but probably useless to mention. I did give a 2 rating for the 2 dedicated employees.

I have been a patient here after 2 surgeries, recovering from 1st hip surgery after a fall @ home. Fell in room but Wilmington Hospital failed to diagnosis a 2nd break in CT scan. For over a month I was doing PT with an unknown 2nd break. After 1 month I am still recovering, but against my insistence to NOT use the stationary bike, I was told to use it anyway. My knee is still hurting, but I know that I have to push through the pain w/o the bike. By now I should have completed the PT and be at home. There is literally ONE nurse on the floor who keeps a close eye on me, as well as the other patients. The MD in charge of this place keeps changing the order of my pain medication. Not available at night. The CNA’s are useless and they never respond when I push the button for help, but wait until no one else comes along. I still have no clearance to use the wheelchair even though the therapists send me back to my room w/o any assistance. IF I wait for a CNA to wheel me anywhere, I’d never get to the bathroom on time, the therapy room or anywhere else. I have still not been given the clearance, although I have been proven more than once been forced to undress, wash my body (in the presence of a therapist), and then completely dress myself. I have proven that I am capable of transitioning from the bed, or the bathroom and back again. Shower time is 2 days per week. All of this when about the entire staff, at any given time see me rolling around, by myself, Lastly, I have made very little progress on the walker because my left knee is painful to lift. Yet the pain in my knee has never been acknowledged by the therapist who did not heed my request. In my not so distant time I know that I have to have surgery to repair the knee. Again, there is ONLY ONE FLOOR NURSE THAT CARES. That young woman works the first shift. The rest follows the med schedule as they see fit. Quite a few of them are hired through agencies I can’t wait for my release from this nightmare. BRW, I see my surgeon tomorrow. Since he has received multiple complaints about this place, he may decide to place his patients elsewhere. One never knows. Maureen Huston Heinly Incidentally, I now have been here going into my third month. And I still not have recovered enough to go back home. Something is terribly wrong with this place.

I’ve heard good reports about this facility. My uncle was admitted due to fall risk yet he’s fallen four times in a span of three days since admission. The 3rd got him a deep gash on his forehead in less than 24 hours; the 4th fall landed him at Wilmington Christiana ER twice. You would think if he’s a fall risk there would be a plan to ensure he doesn’t become a regular visitor at the ER. I’m extremely disgusted with the care he’s gotten this far. He’s hasn’t even been there a week! I asked on day two about him getting a bath claims he got a bed bath; yet when I asked for a bed pan they said they were all out short supply. So how what did they use to bathe him? It’s a clean facility but we were expecting excellent physical therapy. Have yet to have that experience. They didn’t know his eyesight was bad yet he’s able to get in and out of bed without any help. He said he waited an hour after calling the nurse. The director of nursing left for the night and wasn’t available to follow up with me. This is the fourth fall in three days. Is the staff awake during the day?

My mother is currently a resident of Cadia Silverside and is in her 2nd week of rehab. I must say that so far her care has been great and the staff is well knowledgeable in her concerns with having dementia. The quality of care that the nurses and aids adhere to is exceptional. My mother has had no complaints or concerns thus far and we are in hopes that she will gain the strength that she needs to go back to her Assisted Living Community.

I would highly recommend Cadia Silverside - as an employee and also as someone who may need these services someday. As an older individual I have found a home working part time at Cadia and have been welcomed as a member of the team. Having spent 50 years in healthcare I have a pretty keen sense of what is positive and appropriate in a healthcare setting and it is happening every day at Cadia Silverside. The staff here from Administrator to housekeepers are all focused on patient care. I have witnessed numerous scenes of staff going the extra mile to make a resident feel more comfortable and peaceful. Do we sometimes stumble, of course, but we try even harder when we need to make it right. I would recommend Cadia Silverside to family and friends for care and to nurses, aides and all as a potential employer. You won’t regret it!!

My husband has been at Cadia for more than a month and unlike others who complained he had a great experience. Good PT and OT. Friendly staff and nurses or aids always came when he rang his buzzer. A few times it was like maybe 5 or 10 minutes but most of the time was far more prompt. He is finally coming home next week. Cadia did a home assessment with my husband in our home and the suggestions and recommendations were fantastic would go back again if we ever needed this kind of service. Must mention that the speech therapist is wonderful and helped my husband learn to eat real food again.

Don't let a beefed up description and fancy pictures cloud your judgement. The overnight staff are rude and lazy. Their "food" is terribly inedible. They don't care if the residents eat it or not. My mother went all day with NOTHING but a pack of saltine crackers. Communication is appalling! They don't keep you updated. They conveniently make sure they come A DAY LATE to tell you that you've missed an appointment. If you're on medication you're lucky to get it when you need it. If you buzz for a nurse, an aid will come in and turn your light off and tell you that they're going to get your nurse. They might not show up for 6 hours though. Some of the employees ARE nice and helpful. But not enough.. This place needs a LOT of work.

I had no trouble there during my month long stay, other than getting the worst roommates for my particular diagnosis! I had to move three times to other rooms! Other than that I loved my RNs, LPNs, CNAs, Physical Therspists...there are too many to name. Everyone tried very hard to make my stay as bearable as possible and answer any question I Hadley no matter how many times I asked it

A lovely modern, bright facility with some excellent therapists and some very caring nurses and CNA's. Overall, however....not a place I can recommend for care for a loved one. Once involved in the inner workings of what goes on here, the phrase "Never Judge a Book by its Cover" quickly comes to mind. While attractive and clean on the "outside" , the inside, where the care happens, leaves much to be desired. The care is mediocre at best. The CNA's are very young for the most part and very inexperienced. Many employees there are from other countries, which we have NO problem with in general, but in a care setting, where communication is critical, it presents a real problem,. The staff to patient ration is lower than they would like you to believe and if a family member is not on site every day, things can go very awry. The care is quite uncoordinated.....when arriving for our loved one's care conference, we walk in only to hear the nursing SUPERVISOR say ," Who's care conference is this?" ,when the staff was being summoned via intercom. We have had several medication issues as one doesn't talk to another. Our loved one suffered a very serious fall here and has never been the same since. We are the biggest cheerleaders for places that do their best, and for those that do not, our hope is to protect others from the struggles we faced. I think if one is there for a short stay and is completely cognitively aware and "with it" , they might be able to have a decent experience here. Otherwise, I would proceed with the utmost caution. We have been told by two administrators that they absolutely want to know if something's not going well and yet, when we called, the people we needed to speak with did not return our calls. So much for truly wanting to know......
