The best people, a seriously state of the art facility, and excellent medical treatment- what could be better? This facility not only cares about the medical state of their residents, but also their social and emotional well being. My Mom was living alone during the pandemic, and now she feels safe, loves the food, and is so happy to have many loving people. We know we made the right decision with Eastern Star.

My 93 year old mom fell and broke her hip and was at Eastern star for a few weeks. I must say that the facility is very clean and cozy and the rooms were very large with large bathrooms. The rehabilitation department were wonderful ! Everyone there was so nice....The nurses that tended to my mom were also wonderful, especially Wendy and Cheryl. So great and so informative when needed answers. The food was also very good as well. I would highly recommend this place if ever a need!!

So I will not say whether I liked or hated Eastern Star I will just tell our story and you can decide for yourself. My father was admitted here on December 11th 2018 and our first impression of the acute unit was that it was very nice, the rooms are very nice like a decent hotel room with a nice large private bath. The people are relatively friendly but the place seemed seriously understaffed again a first impression but proved to be correct. The food was very good especially the soups, was expecting typical institution food but was definitely of better quality then we expected although we did request softer foods and that never happened. The first week there (My dad was there for rehab after a hospital stay, he is 86 years old and had a bad drug reaction (not due to Eastern Star). needed therapy to walk and function normally again. His first week there he was very weak and when they asked him if he wanted therapy he would refuse (not sure why they ask and not push some but I did some research and this is a fairly common practice) After a few days they started daily therapy of walking was supposed to be an hour and a half per day but the whole time we were there it never happened. After the second week he was finally getting stronger and improving. Then around the 23rd they told us due to lack of improvement the last day medicare will cover is the 26th then you either have to pay for our services our get out. Meanwhile my dad was starting to walk, move around in the wheel chair, eat better, etc.. To me they were improvements did they expect him to run a marathon? They told my mom and dad they had 48 hours to appeal keep in mind the 25th was Christmas day but don't bother because you wont win. I spent hours on the phone with medicare and they said that they were covered for 20 days at 100% and 100 days with a small co pay but the rehab said no that is not what your plan is, I called the number on the back of their card, looked it up in the book they were provided and on the web site all said 20 days and 100 at a co pay. I wont get into the rest of the paths we took but eastern star was 0 help basically they were throwing a 87 year old veteran and his 81 year old wife out into the cold with no options other then to go home and deal with it. (or pay us 400 dollars a day and 22.00 per minute for physical therapy). So we had to leave and now the burden of taking care of my dad falls on my mother and I. (I do not live with them and am a single father with my own business that I have ignored for a month due to this with my father). My dad also complained that it took them 45 minutes to an hour to help him at night when he needed it. When we left they also gave my dad a bottle of oxygen that was only good for three hours, turns out he didn't really need it but no body told my mom that so we ran around like crazy on Sunday when all of the medical supply stores are closed looking for more and when we finally found one we found out we needed a prescription which we didn't have. I am sure there are places that are much worse then this one but if you go watch them like a hawk and question everything. Also make sure you have a power of attorney in place so they can not have your old scared sick family member sign things without really understanding. I feel like they took advantage of a trusting old couple and then left them to suffer..
