Some meals are good, but most are not. They recently installed high efficiency toilets and now the toilets don't flush properly.

My mother has lived here several years now. For most of it its been ok. HOWEVER, the way you raise the rent is terrible. How do you expect the elderly to be able to stay here without running out of money. Your not giving them anymore than when they signed on. Last summer the a/c was broke the ENTIRE summer in the eating area. Claimed couldn't get parts. Possibly you should have purchased a new unit for these elderly people. It was extremely hot and there were times they were not alot to eat in there. Some body is getting rich while the elderly is going broke.

My mom recently lived at Hessler Heights for 5 months, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a place for their 55 and over loved ones that's between fully independent living and assisted living. The staff is very knowledgeable, caring, and kind, and you get your money's worth living here. Unfortunately, we needed a higher level of care, but we enjoyed our time here!

The staff is lovely. They have festive holidays & activities. The apartments are nice. The facility has services to help residents age in place. BUT... The big red flag is the dining experience. Residents have been complaining about the food for a year now. It is — at best — mediocre cafeteria food and it's not uncommon for meals to be sent back. The parent company Hawthorne needs to get its act together.

My mom moved in a few months ago, and this place is amazing! You can tell that they really put a lot of thought into all the activities with a wide range of fun and interesting things to do. The meals are great with lots of variety, healthy options, and treats. Just a lovely, clean place with a kind and thoughtful staff.

UPDATE November 2023 It's been two years now. I've upgraded my review to 5 stars. Your loved one will be happy here. Meeting new friends and no longer having to cook every meal being a plus. After the initial shock of uprooting wears off, you will settle right in and enjoy the interaction with the many different delightful personalities. Always someone new to meet. Our managers problem was beautifully solved with 4 extremely helpful and loving managers. ( And funny) Take a tour with Terry, you will see for yourself. FALL 2021: The CONSTANT change of managers tells it's own story. Residents have no leaders to depend on as they will possibly/probably change the very next day. Taking an hour and a half to get meals is hard on seniors. Especially those who are diabetic. All others are justifiably frustrated at the delays between courses. And you had better like chicken and pork. It will be on the menu 5 of 7 days. As our chef constantly points out... "corporate dictates the menus". Activities are virtually non existent unless spearheaded and run by a resident. Even then regional manager comes and curtails those activities quoting " it's not the Hawthorne way"., or "We can't afford it. We would have to raise your rent." Promised transportation to and from medical facilities when one visits the facility, only to find out after moving in, there is only a bus that you must be able to climb into and climb down from, and No lift for walkers or transport chairs is a very disappointing failed promise. None of our 16 Managers in the year and a half since this facility has been open, have had the authority to implement changes or requests from residents without receiving the OK from the regional manager first. Which experience has proven takes weeks if not months. I am sincerely sorry that I cannot recommend this particular facility. If it were just a matter of the residents ( or even the managers of the day), no problem there. We are from all over the country, and multiple personalities. You will find friends here. But your daily life will be a constant challenge to your free movement and activities. UPDATE 2022: since posting this review corporate has been making numerous efforts to remedy my complaints. So far we are seeing positive changes in Friendly and experienced managers. They in turn have made tremendous improvements in timing the serving of meals. The meals have also improved to our delight! And reliability in contacting the managers and getting an immediate response is very encouraging . The "atmosphere " around here has made a positive turn. I would like to take my approval stars up to two in the hopes that these changes from corporate will continue to progress and my stars will continue to raise accordingly. Thank you corporate for responding so positively.

The staff is tremendous. Cheerful, smiling, and always helpful. The building is less than one year old and is well maintained. The residents also are a delight to be with.

Patrick at Hessler Heights in Landsdowne is nothing short of AMAZING. When our mom needed to transition to a living situation without stairs due to an injury, we were not sure how to proceed. But then, we toured Hessler Heights with Patrick, and our choice was clear. From the moment we entered this breathtaking property, we felt seen, heard, and at home. Patrick is patient, caring, and works hard to make sure your loved one has everything he/she/they needs. Not only did he find us the perfect apartment home to suit our mom's needs, but he connected us with excellent professionals to provide her the medical support services that fit her physical therapy plan. Additionally, I was so impressed with how he knew every resident by name and always had time for a quick chat with every person he crossed paths with on our multiple tours. To add to our delight, the meals (included, by the way), are five-star delightful. Residents often enjoy culinary delights served by skilled wait staff at artfully set tables with the sounds of live piano music pouring through the exquisite grand dining hall. Furthermore, residents can also enjoy trips to MGM, Prom Night, walking trails, an on-site movie theater, a library, and much more! Also, the other residents are some of the friendliest people I have ever met. They have all been so sweet and my sister and I have enjoyed many chats with them in the elevators and in the hall. Another point that makes Hessler Heights a standout is how much is included in the rent. You get cable, linens, weekly cleaning services, meals, and snacks (as mentioned above), and even more. In short, this is a wonderful place to call home, and Patrick is the absolute best!

It is a great place to live and an answer to a prayer. Guests are so friendly and the staff cheerful and very accommodating. It's my new home and I love it. I've been here since mid March.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Hessler Heights Retirement Community! I am happy that my 86 year old Mom has found such a great place to reside and enjoy life. My mom moved in just a few days ago on Wednesday, June 2. Although she just moved in we have been working with Anne for almost a year as construction was completed. Anne has been so supportive throughout this process as my Mom sold her house after almost 40 years and began the process of moving into an apartment and new community. Anne was/is patient, answered tons of questions, addressed concerns, and was always available. We have just recently met the managers - Kal, Mickey, Joe, and Dora. This management group is such a wonderful team of compassionate and supportive people who truly seem to care about my Mom's comfort and happiness. The decor at Hessler Heights in the common areas is beautiful, bright, airy, and spacious. There is plenty of room and different areas to gather and visit. The grounds are really pretty and will be a nice place for Mom to spend time with her new friends. Plus, I know that my Mom is looking forward to the community activities and nightly movie night. We're also very happy about the all inclusive price that provides for almost everything that my Mom needs and wants. I appreciate this forum to publicly thank the Hessler Heights team and encourage others to look into the Hessler Heights community for their loved ones.

This new Loudoun County senior community is just beautiful— exceptionally designed and constructed inside and out! More importantly, ALL the staff from housekeeping to management have been kind, caring, and attentive to the unique needs of the residents. My Mom is thrilled to be a Charter Resident here. She looks forward each day to making new friends, participating in planned activities, enjoying the walking paths and outdoor landscape, and eating excellent meals in the gorgeous dining room. Hessler Heights is a much needed addition to the Loudoun area. The all-inclusive pricing of the monthly lease without the huge buy-in fees is a smart business model. Also, having the managers all live, work, and dine onsite alongside the residents offers added security benefits and guarantees attention to details. Special thanks to Anne, Kalvin, Micki, Joe, and Dora, for getting this new community off to a fabulous start!
