We were looking for a community for our father to move into after the passing of our mother. Springhill was the best fit for him. It is a facility that offers independent living, assisted living and full term care to meet the needs of our aging loved ones.

While it is never easy to accept the fact of inevitable aging, planning for the future provides control and, ultimately, freedom. Moving to Springhill was one of the best decisions my husband and I made almost seven years ago. The campus is beautiful and well-maintained, the associates like family, and management sensitive to addressing not only physical but also intellectual, and spiritual needs of its residents.

We moved to a garden home at Springhill in 2023 and are loving it. We are new retirees and wanted to move to Erie to be closer to family. We are glad that we did it sooner rather than later. We are just as active as we've always been, and Springhill keeps us in shape physically and mentally with a fully equipped gym, indoor pool, walking path around a beautiful pond, library, chapel, yoga, and exercise classes. The campus is immaculate, and all the associates are fantastic. We've made new friends and reconnected with old friends in Erie. It's a relief to never have to buy a new roof, water heater, furnace, or appliances, and to not have to take care of lawn or snow removal. We feel very spoiled.

The nursing staff has been very kind, supportive and conscientious to my family member. I appreciate that they are there whenever needed.

Springhill was the only place Mom would consider when the time came for her to move to a more secure and safe environment. While she thought she was not ready at first, she soon fell in love with her apartment, and enjoyed the social activities, trips, concerts and dining they had to offer. And we knew there was added security and checks that gave us peace of mind. Mom eventually would come to utilize all the care units offered at Springhill. She was hospitalized numerous times, and it was a comfort to know Forestview would be her place to rehab. They offered excellent therapy, and she became familiar with the staff. Mom had to transfer to Oakview (assisted living) the day after the COVID lockdown came into place. Imagine having to move to a new unit, cannot see family and dealing with medical issues. But she grew to love her new unit, she felt safe, and grew to love the staff. The staff became her family. They worked with us to schedule zoom calls, window visits, anything to help Mom adjust and thrive. And she did. They kept her safe from COVID, and the staff took very good care of her. I personally worked closely with the nursing staff and we collaborated on condition changes and doctors appointments. Their team helped us work through tough decisions, and helping to make Mom comfortable. I also want to mention what an asset their transportation bus is---eventually Mom was wheelchair bound outside her unit and on oxygen. It would have been difficult to get her to appointments without this service. I did not want this to be too long but it is difficult to capture all the assets the Springhill Community has to offer. I will forever be grateful to all the staff for taking such good care of Mom.

Why Springhill? When my husband and I began looking for a home in Erie, a senior community was where the search began. I had previously lived out of state in a single home within a 55+ Active Living Community that I loved. When we viewed Springhill, the garden homes looked as though they were made for us at this time of our life. They were smaller than our present homes but had enough space for us. This, however, meant getting rid of many items that had been part of each of our lives, but after thinking about it, this was a good thing. Most of these items were things that hadn't been used in a long time but held so emotional attachment. How long were we going to hang on to these items? As my decision-making process to move to Springhill continued, we realized the time in our lives to minimize was here. This was not only good for us but also my children. I have two adult children with young families who live out of town and are in the midst of the highly active time in their lives. Also, we had just buried our nonagenarian mothers and had gone through the process of sorting through their belongings, preparing the houses (our family homesteads) for resale, and going through all the legalities that go along with this. We were determined my boys were not going to go through that with or for us. If we moved into Springhill our homes would be sold, and we would not own our garden home. Ninety percent of the entry fee would be returned to our estate. Our belongings would be minimized, and my sons would not have to go through the emotional and difficult process we had just completed with our mothers. Additionally, Springhill is a progressive living community. At this point we fit into the independent living part of this community but when either or both of us need assisted living, Oakview is available for us. When we need more nursing care, Forestview is the next step. All of this is available here at Springhill and we would already be in a community that knows us and is aware of our needs. We feel as though all the decisions for the senior chapter of our life will have been willingly made by us and my children will not have to worry about making those choices. The next reason why we chose Springhill is because it is filled with kind welcoming residents and associates that have had many interesting experiences, they are willing to share. It is wonderful to be befriended by such caring people. The campus of Springhill is beautiful. It is covered with trees, luxurious grass, and a beautiful pond with a gazebo. There are walking trails, putting and chipping greens, a bocce court and a fabulous fire pit. Additionally, many activities are provided for residents such as weekly bus trips around Erie, theater and philharmonic events, discussion groups, games, quarterly socials and holiday parties, as well as, physical fitness activities such as salt water pool exercises, balance, yoga, and seated strength classes. What a wonderful life is available to those of us who live here! I would highly recommend Springhill to any active senior.

This post is from my mother who has enjoyed living at Springhill. I am also very happy she is there because I know she has made friends and is an active part of this community. "How do you like living at Springhill"? In the three years that I have lived here that is the question so many friends and family ask. Usually I answer that I like it just fine. Now I am thinking it is more than "just fine" *We all age differently, but age we do. The other residents here and I know that growing older is not for sissies. We encourage each other and look out for each other. We share our joys and sorrows. We go on trips together, we eat together, we party together. There is so much offered for our participation. People who grew up in approximately the same decades share memories that children and grandchildren just cannot totally understand. *I have had two medical emergencies that were quickly evaluated by the nursing and therapy staff and appropriately taken care of. Outcomes could have been quite different if I had been living alone. There is a comfortable feeling of safety when you know there will always be someone to come to your aid. *So I do think it is more than "just fine" living at Springhill. It is a great community to join as we age in place together. Elaine Dively

Our Springhill story begins the day I read an ad for an open house at Springhill in our local Erie newspaper. I decided to attend the open house invitation. I was so favorably impressed with their presentation that I convinced my very hesitant husband to take a personal tour of the facilities. At the end of the tour we turned to each other and realized that this was the answer to our prayers. We decided to put our names on the list of potential residents that very day. It was the perfect gift to give each other and to our family. No more worries. Our needs would be attended to here at Springhill. It is more than a community. It is now our extended family. A place where we know we are safe surrounded by caring individuals who are ready to attend to our needs. We are a diverse group of residents who share the joy of experiencing Springhill's way of life. It is a special place filled with smiles from those that work here to the residents that reside here. The fact that they offer the care needed throughout the different stages of the aging process and the wide variety of amenities made it an easy choice. It is where one finds peace of mind, intellectual stimulation, a wide variety of physical activities and importantly the creation of new dear friendships that makes Springhill so special. The future at Springhill is very bright. Each morning we pinch ourselves to make sure it is not a dream. I like to say, " Springhill is a little piece of heaven right here in Erie, PA". Another phrase often heard here is, " Why didn't we/I do this sooner?". So , I invite you to experience Springhill for yourself. You won't be sorry. Sincerely, Elizabeth and Pet

Springhill---Positive Life Changing Experiences. Since it's opening, Springhill was the new home for many friends. From my family, my sister, and my cousin, completed their life's journeys here. Time came for Joan and I to determine our future well being. Unquestioning, it was to be at Springhill! And what a correct decision it came to be!! Our unit had space for some of our furniture, our decor, our possessions, our clothing. Soon we were comfortable, and began "Life at Springhill." We were greeted. Life experiences, descriptions of family, working years, vacations, volunteering, memories were shared with " Springhillanders" We shared activities---concerts, movies, discussions, parties, dinners, the social life. After several years, one of the important plusses of being here became apparent. My wife needed more care than I was able to provide. At Forest View, daily, I was with her for hours, most meals, and always nearby, until her passing more than a year ago. I was never without support. It was my choice. Whenever a hint of mental or physical support was needed, Springhill's associates were there to encourage me. My life had changed, but not my lifestyle. Again, My Choices. I make use of transportation to cultural events, lunches, and activities provided. My desire to be a part of "what goes on at Springhill" is always encouraged. I am thankful that we made the Springhill decision. Happily, I'll share experiences with those that are prospective Springhillanders or those that are already here who wish to chatter, converse, or just spend time gabbing with me.

Written by Mom Norma Saxton, Resident since 2013: I knew for quite a while that we should move from our large, 2 story home - but my husband was "not ready yet". His health was failing and our ages were contributing to our inability to care for our home and to some degree, ourselves. More and more we had to rely on family. We were familiar with Springhill since our daughter was an Associate there since 2005. She kept us aware of marketing events and recommended that we attend several, which we did. Marketing kept us informed of all that Springhill had to offer. Why did we choose Springhill? After we were shown an apartment - we realized it was just the right size and met all our "requirements". The friendliness of the Residents and the Associates, the full time security, on-staff nurses, planned activities, a chaplain and beautifully kept grounds were added bonuses. Our choice of Springhill, home for 9 years now, was one we never regretted and I know I will be happy here for the rest of my days.

We've been living, here, in one of the Garden Homes for ten months. It has been a very good move for us. There are plenty of activities to keep you busy. You can take part in as many as you like. Springhill is a very active retirement community. The residents and associates are very friendly and helpful.

My wife, Sue, knew Springhill very well since her mom and aunt had both lived there. So, when my mom was ready for a move, we easily recommended Springhill. Mom's reward was a new home, a very social environment, and the best caregiving staff ever assembled. Our reward was knowing that mom was happy, that she had a whole new and active involvement with friends, and knowing that she would be held in good care for the rest of her life. We have so many fond memories of our time with mom at Springhill, attending entertainment events with her, joining in worship services amongst friends, and enjoying many fine meals together. My earliest memory of Springhill is of the many smiles and happy greetings given by both the residents and staff during my first visit. And the facilities match the people - bright and welcoming. We are so blessed to have had our loved ones be members of this great community.
