As we start our 8th year at Asbury, I'm reflecting on how grateful we are that we chose to move in our mid-70s. For a full 7 years we've been able to take advantage of Asbury's MANY fitness programs, all the social activities provided by both our Villa neighborhood and the larger campus. We are convinced we are healthier and happy for these years (rather than waiting until our late 70's or 80s). The friends we've made we've now had for 7 years! And they are wonderful. I happily encourage any prospects to take advantage as early as they are able of the many advantages of senior living at Asbury. We are now starting our fifth year at Asbury. In this updated review what I want to highlight is the feeling of community that exists on the campus. In a relatively short time we have developed wonderful friendships with both our neighbors here in the Villas and with friends "across the street" who live in apartments or the Courtyard Homes. Our neighbors are interesting, involved and committed to many of the same values of caring for others and our larger community as we are. Walks on the campus typically take longer than anticipated because of the opportunity to greet and chat with both folk we know and folk we haven't formally met. Of all the great things about Asbury, this is the one I value the most. My husband and I have lived in a villa for the past three years (October through May) and have found it to be everything we wanted in a CCRC and more. "Anticipate More" is a very appropriate motto. And what do we love: our villa and its floor plan (the Winterberry), our wonderful neighbors who are so friendly, caring and interesting, the trees -- every where on our beautiful campus, the ponds, the wildlife which is abundant. The associates are super -- from the executive director down to every single other associate. Their smiles are sincere, their friendliness part of the everyday ambiance, and their help dependable. Because we live in a villa we cook most of our meals -- an activity we enjoy, but when we go to one of the dining rooms the food never disappoints. I need to mention also the Wellness Center and its wonderful staff, the pool. As you can see I truly love this place. Well, it's now November 2022 and we have happily made AMV and our villa our FULL TIME YEAR ROUND HOME. AMV has so many advantages our part time home on Cape Cod lacked. As I wrote above the social life with our neighbors and friends is tops. Take a class and chat with a friend; walk to get the mail and again, there's almost always someone to visit with. Evening classes twice a week with the Keese School offer interesting learning and again some socializing. If one wants to continue to serve there are always opportunities on the campus -- which means in these later years life continues to be very meaningful. The associates we see most often (for me in the Wellness Center and with the Spiritual Life department) are almost like family. Living in a villa means that we have an abundance of trees -- another blessings. We are now in our 10th year. Recently the spring on our garage door broke late afternoon with the car in the garage. Within 18 hours our car was out and in less than 48 hours the door was repaired ” all at no additional cost to us. CCRC living is wonderful and AMV is the best!

I have only been at Asbury for 4 weeks and it feels like home. It has been here for quite a long time and has built up a list of activities that run the gamut from sports and exercise to things like art classes and knitting and volunteering in the community. You'd find it hard to be bored here! The campus is beautiful and well maintained and Asbury tries very hard to foster environmental stewardship on its grounds. But best of all, people seem happy and fulfilled here. I love it.

My husband was here for subacute rehab after bilateral mini strokes. Him and I are both very pleased with the care and therapy he received. I'd have to say no place is perfect with the healthcare being understaffed so there were a few minor issues with timelines of answering a call bell but all in all he received great physical therapy and occupational therapy. I would recommend Wilson Health Care over any other rehab he was in.

Visited in-laws here. Such a nice place to retire at. The building smells good. People are friendly. The entire area is clean and the environment is beautiful. There's a Russian Opera show one Sunday. It was such a treat. They have so much activities. No dull moments here.

My dad did get the physical therapy and occupational therapy he needed to be discharged. However, I thought the communication and availability a staff was very limited. There was never an answer at the nursing station and frequently. There were no answers when the front desk connected me to their cell phones. I know it is busy, and there is a lot of responsibility, but I was very disappointed with being kept abreast of the whole process, his progress, and making sure that he got up in the mornings.

My mother was an inpatient at Asbury Methodist Village Skilled Nursing Facility from the end of Dec. 2022 until April 2023 for physical rehabilitation. She was a stroke victim and was admitted to Asbury with C-Diff which she acquired during her stay at the hospital. Aftertreatment, the C-Diff cleared, and she was able to participate in light physical therapy. Unfortunately, the C-Diff returned, and my mother was given another round of antibiotics, but she did not improve. By this time, she was receiving light physical therapy in her room; however, her health continued to deteriorate until she could no longer participate in physical therapy. The therapists and nurses frequently cited my mother’s age (93) as a major factor in her continued decline. One evening, the sister of a patient passed by our room and asked to pray over my mother. She was an RN and told my brother and me to take her to an infectious disease doctor as my mother’s situation was dire. This was just two days after we met with the doctor at Asbury who offered no solution to our mother’s deteriorating medical status and could not explain why the antibiotics were not working. The social workers wanted us to move her into the nursing home as part of the facility, ignoring the C-Diff as a barrier to physical therapy. Following this new information, we decided to take our mother to an infectious disease doctor outside and independent of Asbury; however, we were required to utilize special medical transportation contracted with Asbury at our expense. The infectious disease doctor prescribed vancomycin, which is imperative to overcome C-Diff. In about 10 days, my mother recovered, but the damage was already done as the duration of the C-Diff in her system took its toll. From what I observed, the rehabilitation room is modern and contains several pieces of modern equipment. Asbury is a good place if you are young or middle aged and need to recover from a medical condition or accident which caused physical impairment. However, if you are elderly and frail, they are neither interested nor vested in your recovery. Rather, the emphasis is to move you out or into the nursing home section. Not recommended for the elderly. As for the doctor, basic knowledge (how did he not know about vancomycin and its prescription for C-Diff) was obviously lacking in addition to his limited time at the premises, thereby creating difficulty contacting him.

My wife and I are relative newcomers having arrived at AMV 6 months ago, therefore this assessment may contain a "honeymoon" reaction. Our initial reaction is "Wow!" The Village is beautifully landscaped, well maintained, CLEAN, and properly managed. Staff are professional and compassionate. Services are delivered promptly and executed with care. Most importantly, from our perspective, our Village neighbors are wonderful - convivial, interested and interesting, civil, and mindful of a demeanor supporting communal living. The array of activities on offer is fabulous and beyond our expectations. The food service/plans are adequate and, for us, easy to supplement with home cooking. All in all, after having done our due diligence in visting over a dozen CCRCs on the East coast, we are very grateful to have found Asbury Methodist Village.

Choosing a retirement community is a big decision. Having lived at Asbury for four years now, we are sure we made the right decision. We chose Asbury for the beautiful campus, the well-run corporate structure, and the many activities and opportunities available. In addition to the excellent resident-run education series, we have issue-oriented committees composed of residents and administrators, and a robust wellness and exercise program. We even found space for our bicycles and kayaks. Another plus is the spacious Resident Gardens, protected by a 10-foot deer fence, where I raise vegetables and flowers. And importantly, in a crisis, Asbury is able to innovate: we were particularly impressed with the pro-active and fact-based actions Asbury took to keep us safe during the covid pandemic.

Don’t wait. Join our wonderful Asbury Methodist Village (AMV) community today! My husband and I have lived Asbury Methodist Village (AMV) for almost 5 years now. Our ages were 61 and 62 when we moved in. We could not have made a better decision! Having dealt with aging parents trying to stay in their homes, we knew we did NOT want to do that. Making major changes and downsizing does NOT get easier with age. We made the right decision at the right time. We are young enough to enjoy the vast variety of social and wellness activities, learning opportunities, and most importantly the nature that AMV has to offer for many years to come. Smaller CCRC’s simply do not have this volume of established activities and the acres of beautiful ponds and nature areas. While Dan has not retired yet, he still gets the most of out of our nature areas before and after work and on weekends. He has become an avid birder and has identified 133 different species of birds on our campus. About every 2 weeks he shares photos and written updates on the birds he is seeing. We have an email distribution list that is over 250+. I am more into working with trees and plants. People asked me if I missed my gardens at our former home. The answer is No! I have 17 acres of unmanicured grounds to work in and enjoy. But here I can do it when I WANT to, not when I HAD to due to the neighbors complaining that I didn’t mow soon enough or have too many weeds. Here I can remove invasive plants and put in natives that belong here. I plant trees and shrubs and protect them from the deer. It is so satisfying to see a tree that was a mere twig when planted and 5 years later it is a real tree! I also have a residential garden plot to grow tomatoes, strawberries, asparagus, lettuce, etc. We eat something from my garden almost every day from April to November. When not in the woods, I take a variety of classes. Water aerobics, cardio fit boxing, brain health training, line dancing and I even climb our climbing wall twice a week. I don’t know if I will be able to do all this when I’m 85, but I sure am enjoying it all now at 66!! Don’t wait. A world of opportunities and welcoming new friends and neighbors await you!

Our apartment was extensively renovated prior to moving in and we were able to select or upgrade flooring, appliances, cabinets, etc. We are delighted with the customized features of the apartment. I moved here in November of 2020 when we were not allowed to visit neighbors. However, as soon as it was allowed I had invitations from our new neighbors to visit and socialize. I was not hesitant about moving - I moved because Covid-19 closed my granddaughter's daycare and my daughter needed help taking care of her. I considered other CCRCs but AMV had Villas which felt more like moving from a home to a home than moving to a high rise apartment would have. Once vaccinations allowed me to mingle with a few people I discovered many activities and started participating. Since moving here I have joined a chorale and sing weekly, learned bocce and practice nearly every week, joined a men's group that eats at our on-campus cafe weekly, started playing bridge again, and join a game-playing group for some kind of table-top game once a month. I hope to be able to enjoy living at AMV for many more years.

My list of wants were more meet when I moved to Asbury Methodist Village. I wanted medical services, affordable living and safe, secure environment. Asbury as a Continuing Care community offered independent Living, assisted Living and rehab/nursing home Center. They have many doctors available on campus along with Home care services covered by Medicare or self paid. not only that they have Physical Therapy and hearing services on campus I will not mention the Hair Salons, swimming pool and gyms ( with trainers). When I checked my expenses in my four bedroom home with a quarter acre of land I found that the monthly fee was less. but Wow they wash your windows yearly, Change your filter, and even clear off your car when it snows. I had not consider a food plan.. it is wonderful not to shop, cook and wash dishes. Someone else does this for you every day. and you have more than enough food... I have to watch my weight!! I have more than I could possibly do available to me each day. But more than that I am secure and safe on a beautiful campus!!!!!

The compassionate people who live here, the beautiful campus, the Wellness Program, the resident run continuing education Keese School with lectures and classes, and programs, small and large, that suit the diverse interests of the people who live here. Not to be overlooked, proximity to the Red Metro line, doctor's offices, grocery and retail stores and much more. Coming home to Asbury Methodist Village is like an ideal balance of luxury resort, college dorm, and summer camp. I first learned about the Asbury organization and CCRCs over 20 years ago when I had massage clients at Asbury Solomons. In that role I was able to observe the various living styles and levels of care from a first hand perspective. I knew then that this was the atmosphere and standard I wanted for my retirement. Twenty years later, when my husband and I began planning for our transition from our beautiful home on 3 wooded acres into a CCRC, we began our research at Asbury Solomons. We visited over a dozen communities as far south as Virginia Beach and as far west as Winchester and had narrowed it down to Asbury Solomons or one other community when our attention was drawn to Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg. Here we found everything that had appealed to us in the other communities plus features we had been unable to find elsewhere, including flexibility of eating plans and a willingness to work with the healthy diet that we have chosen for ourselves. There is such a wealth of community, education, activities, beautiful outdoor spaces, and so much more. Moving in, we thought it could not get better. Two months later they introduced the Blue Zone Project to support residents in living the healthy lifestyles that have been studied in the five healthiest societies on the planet - something we had already been studying and pursuing on our own. Last month they introduced the Distinguished Speaker Series where we literally had front row seats for a talk and interview with Jonathan Capehart. We moved in 8 months ago and cannot recommend it more highly. Do your due diligence, but be sure to include Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg, Maryland in your research.

Although my experience has been great for the nine years I have lived here, I want to share a particular reason why I chose AMV. Of course, I wanted the many fine programs and was aware of the quality of AMV's residents, but there was one other aspect that was absolutely necessary for me. When my wife and I began our search 10 years ago, several friends and other sources stressed checking out the assisted living and nursing capabilities of any CCRC we considered. My mother had lived here at AMV in the assisted living building for 3 and a half years, and I got to know the facility thoroughly. My uncles had lived in a lovely CCRC in Virginia, but its assisted living was dreary and boring. AMV's is large enough that it has two activities directors and fine support in every regard, with excellent dining and access to all other activities on this campus. If you compare the assisted living life here with any other place, I expect you will become a neighbor of mine.

Asbury Methodist Village We came in 2018. There are five high-rise apartment buildings for independent living; we chose an apartment on the 10th floor of one them. Another high-rise building is dedicated to assisted living and another devoted to rehabilitation and round the clock nursing, where my wife stayed briefly after a short hospital episode. There are also courtyard homes on campus and villa homes across the street from the campus Rosborough Cultural Arts and Wellness Center is a huge building contains a large auditorium, a large gym and exercise facility with a climbing wall, and an 8 lane, 25 yd swimming pool which was important to me as a long-distance swimmer. I have eaten in each of the three restaurants; all serve excellent food with appropriate dietary restrictions when asked. There is a shoppe “ a sort of small 7-11 with snacks, sandwiches, breakfast foods, etc, There is a hiking trail near two small lakes. There are outdoor facilities for bocce, corn hole, pickle ball, and tennis. As a former tennis player, I look forward to joining in pickle ball. Near the tennis court is a garden that can be used by residents for their own plants. There are two large auditoriums which host numerous instrumental and choral performances and lectures on culture, history, geography, philosophy, and the environment. I learned about genetic engineering and the synthesis of vaccines. The retirement here has offered us many ways in which we can enjoy athletic and intellectual pursuits

Asbury Methodist village is a wonderful place to be in, I have spent all my lives in this home and now in Rehab unit. this is a place that accommodate every race and everyone regardless of your origin. This is a campus that cares about her associates and our wonderful Resident. Our Nutritional team works hand in hand with the nursing department. This is my 20th year working in Asbury as a Charge Nurse and a proud staff that has committed to put herself in the care and protection of my wonderful Resident whom I believed and trust to come to work everyday. We are a wonderful team that makes up Asbury including my own Wilson health care Center, Kindley Assisted living and independent living. Our wonderful Managers and DON, ADON and Administrator are the reasons that we are here because that all stand and support both associate and Resident where we consider as a room for all and a home for the NEW GENERATIONAL NURSES.

We are now approaching our one-year anniversary of living at Asbury, and we could not be more pleased with our decision to move here. Truthfully, the hardest part was making the initial decision to leave our home and move to a CCRC in the first place. Once that hurdle was cleared, it became a matter of establishing priorities and finding a place that met our requirements. For us, our must-haves were ample green space and the availability of independent cottage-style homes. We found Asbury to be unique in Montgomery County with the lush and abundant green space on the 130+ acre campus--even obtaining official certification as an arboretum. The campus is absolutely stunning in every season and includes lovely trees, plantings, ponds, fountains, gardens, and walking paths in addition to numerous bird species and other wildlife. While originally we had envisioned living in a smaller community, we have since realized there are several real advantages to a larger one. For example, there are many more available clubs and activities, both educational and health/wellness focused, and Asbury even has its own theater showing recent movies several times a week, as well as its own TV channel for easy access to information, movies, and fitness classes from the comfort of your home. As well there is a pharmacy on the campus that delivers prescriptions to your door”it doesn’t get more convenient than that! Before making the final decision, we attended several marketing events where we were able to talk to residents from all over the campus and ask questions about services provided, caliber of staff, and what they would change if they had a chance. Responses were all resoundingly positive, and we decided to take the plunge. Since our move we have been very impressed with the established processes to help new residents acclimate, and Asbury management seems genuinely committed to open, effective communication and feedback from residents. We have found all the Asbury staff we have encountered to be courteous, friendly, and competent and very responsive to our needs; and all the Asbury residents have been unfailingly helpful and welcoming. No matter how you slice it, moving is always one of life’s greatest hassles. That said, we are really happy living at Asbury, and it is very reassuring to know that whatever life has in store for us in the future, Asbury will be able to take care of our needs.

I was so impressed with Physical Therapy when they saw I needed to be pushed to my maxi in order to get the most out of my therapy. A word to the wiseif you feel you’re not getting enough out of therapyplease speak up! They will push you beyond what you thought you could do.

For almost 4 years, my family (my husband, our 62 year old son and I) have lived in a villa in Asbury Methodist Village. We feel that it was one of the best decisions we made in our life. We chose Asbury because of the 125 acres campus with an arboretum and two ponds, plenty of space to walk, the Keese School a continuing education program, with biweekly programs run by the residents, and by the atmosphere of warmth and friendship. At Asbury, you have the choice of hundreds of activities, exercises, sports including a swimming pool, musical events or staying home and watching the campus TV station which offers an array of choices of movies and lectures.

I have lived at Asbury Methodist Village for 11 years and have loved it. When the COVID hit, a lot of the activities were shut down but AMV has done a great job providing alternative opportunities. When people ask me how I am doing, I can honestly say "I haven't been better." The Asbury TV station taped all the fitness classes. I take the 10:00 am classes every week day in my living room and can now do movements I've not been able to do for years. For example, I can now strand up from a chair 15 times without using my arms. Our Yoga teacher has made two videos that are broadcast Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons on AVTV. I do not miss those because taking Yoga eliminated the lower back pain I endured since 1963! I have the meal plan and after the Dining Rooms were closed in March, we were given daily menus and our meals were delivered to our apartments each evening. The food has been tasty and quite varied. I've been able to make healthy choices and have reached my 1966 Weight Watchers goal weight for the first time in about 20 years! From my 10th floor windows, I have a beautiful view over the tops of the trees shading Gaithersburg and Rockville. The weather is always interesting to watch.

I am enthusiastic about Asbury. I wanted us to come here sooner, but I could not convince my wife. When she died in July 2017 I found myself alone in a large large house in nearby Montgomery Village. To prevent my distant children from being concerned about me, I moved in Nov 2017 to Asbury, which I had researched extensively 4 years before. Asbury had all the facilities I would need for the remainder of life. The location was ideal. I could drive easily to Watkins Mill High School where, pre-pandemic, I volunteered daily in engineering classes in about 4 or 5 out of 7 class periods. The campus bordered Lakeforest Transit Terminal which was an entry point to public transit which extended to DC and Virginia. I came originally to eat and sleep. Later I became involved in discussion groups on literature and politics. It is like being part of a large family. We are here from here to eternity and we treat each other well. I agree with all previous comments on the beauty of the campus, exercise facilities, the quality of food and the maintenance of physical facilities. I became a patient of Holy Cross Heath Partners, an onsite medical practice. The doctor told me "You can live a long time at Asbury," and I agree. I suggest that to evaluate Asbury, visit several times. In addition to floor plans, observe residents at meals. Observe exercise classes. View the catalog of the Keese school and observe several classes. Look at activities posted on bulletin boards near the mail pick up areas. View schedules in the magazine "Village Life" and imagine what you would do here over a month.
