My younger sister who is 67 years old moved to the Oaks from Silver Spring to be nearer to my home. It is a wonderful place to live. The tenants are very friendly and helpful. The apartments and the building are kept up beautifully. Maintenance responds quickly. I park in the parking lot just about every day to visit my sister. I keep my eyes open at night anywhere I park including at the Oaks, but nothing has ever happened to me. I think it is very well run and you'd be lucky to get an apartment at the Oaks.

I was told there was no smoking. I signed a paper saying I would not smoke when I signed the lease. There is smoking, during and after hours, under the entrance canopy and elsewhere. Residents have guests who smoke. I sympathize with the addiction but contaminated air adds to my breathing problem. There is no enforcement of the rule. Why can't this be dealt with effectively. A visiting owner said in a public meeting that the management couldn't be responsible for what went on after hours. So be forewarned, THERE IS SMOKE CONTAMINATED PRESENT AT THE OAKES AND NO ONE IS DEALING WITH IT EFFECTIVELY.

These are listed as "free smoke", but honestly there is smoking on the 4th floor, 1st floor, and 2nd floor. So please be aware of this if you are considering this as your senior home.
