After a fall in her home my mom was sent to Highland to rehab. During the short term rehab period it was becoming clear she wouldn't be returning to her home. This was hard for her to accept. As she transitioned into long term care she was not a happy camper. Rachel the Director of Admissions has been a true asset during all of this. Rachel has been available to us almost 24/7. She has worked tirelessly moving mom from room to room until mom was satisfied with her roommate and surroundings. I feel comfortable having mom at HRR knowing Rachel is there. Rachel has been a good support, liaison, and advocate for my mother and I can't thank her enough for all she has done and accomplished on Mom's behalf so far.

We were not prepared to entrust the care of our precious mom to anyone at all. When mom’s health suddenly declined, we had need for a rehab center offering dialysis. We previewed the property unannounced. Everything was pristine clean. There was a pleasant aroma in the air. We spoke with families of residents and with nurses. Each testimony was positive. Rachel, the assistant administrator gave us a tour without an appointment. There was no time to stage or prepare to impress us. Everything was on point. When mom moved in, everyone was so accommodating. We were able to make her room personal and cozy to suit her needs. All the staff welcomed us with smiles and graciousness. Even the administrator met with us to ensure our needs were being met. Mom was so comfortable. We felt sure she was safe and lovingly being attended to. Our goal was to rehabilitate mom to a place of independence. The excellent rehab and OT team worked with mom daily, helping her to function independently. We were elated! When we were ready to be discharged, the social worker, Tonya worked with us to make sure we had everything we needed to continue her success at home. If ever we had need for these services again, we would hands down choose Highland Ridge Rehab again. Thank you, thank you, thank you! We’ll never forget your kindness to us! The Dye Family

My mother was at another Rehab facility 3. Hrs away. The administrative staff at Highland Ridge went above and beyond my expectations in helping me to get her transferred to Highland Ridge. Amanda is an angel, she relentlessly, but very nicely pushed the other facility for all the required documentation that was needed for her facility as well as for the insurance company. She called the insurance company many times and wouldn't take no for an answer. I was told by the insurance company that it would take upto 72 hrs before they would even review and longer to grand the authorization to transfer my mother. Amanda got the authorization and my mother was transferred to Highland Ridge within 24 hrs. I can't say thank you enough to her and the administrative staff for all their efforts.

I was a rrsident back in 2022. This was the 4th facility I went to from the hospital after what had happened to me. Thank goodness we found your place. The morning after I got there the therapy staff came in and said your going to rehab. So I said OK. I had not been out of bed in 5 months and did not know how to walk. Your therapy staff had me walking and climbing stairs in 7 weeks. The facility is vrry clean, if you don't like the food for a meal they will bring you something else there is always something to do. The nursing staff does not look down at you and take good care of your needs. If I or anyone I know needs nurseing or rehab I highly recommend this facility.

I give 5 stars to the therapy department and nurse Christie. Other than management department the rest of them should be unemployed. There lack of service care during my wife's stay is unexcuseable.The patients pay for lack of staff.I would not recommend this place to anyone. My mother is a long term resident at Highland. She has been there for 3years. I am extremely grateful for the staff that take care of my mother when I can't be there. She has dementia and they are very patient with her and understanding. We have been able to decorate her room to make it look like her own little apartment which she loves. She has baby dolls that she believes are real and they staff go along with it and helps "babysit" or "feed" the babies. They are always cleaning when I'm there and it never smells bad. Activities staff keeps her busy and active. I just can't say enough great things about this facility and I will forever be grateful and 100% recommend this facility to anyone who may need help with a loved one.

My mom's stay was ok at first. The nurses were pretty good, few cnas good, some not really passionate about health care for the elderly. Food good, therapy not good enough, housekeeping fair but should have been better. Then covid cases set in and no one there understood their own policies or followed protocols. Healthcare workers should wear masks and gloves. My mom ended up deathly ill with covid the day she was released and back to hospital.

Admittedly, I don't have a lot of experience with adult care facilities, but for nearly 3 months this year, my beloved aunt was here rehabbing for a series of strokes. The short story is when it was time for her to be discharged, she had genuine feelings about leaving the people behind that she had come to know and that had come to care for her over the time she was a patient. I was a frequent visitor and found the facility to be clean every time. I honestly cannot say that for other places I've been. I feel like my aunt was well fed and well cared for by the staff there. They knew us by first name before this was all wrapped up. There were some people facing tough circumstances there, but everyone seemed to be treated with appropriate dignity and care. A different aunt was in rehab for hip surgery at another facility closeby and we did not have a positive experience. At all. At the outset, I really managed my expectations for this place, but by week two, I knew it was a good place for her to be. Put it on your list should you ever be in need in this part of Virginia. The staff was very engaged with my aunt and she made serious strides in those weeks she was in residence. Thanks to the staff of Highland Ridge for carrying out its rehab mission so well. My aunt has largely reclaimed her life and vigor and the rehab team can claim a lot of credit. In closing, I will add that their policy of doing care meetings with family and concerned others was a great comfort to us. We could have updates about her progress and her care going forward. I could name names but I will certainly forget someone so I won't do that. If any staff is reading this, please know you're appreciated.

I have been in Highland Ridge as a patient. I have a lot to say this place. It’s a wonderful place to be. Sometimes it’s a little busy and kind of crazy, but the staff is always attentive and caring. My time there helped me not only to become physically well, but emotionally, mentally and spiritually as well. They have a very versatile and caring physical therapy program.The staff are all lovely and wonderful. The wound care are gentle and knowledgeable. The nurse practitioner is attentive and listens to your needs and concerns. There are so many things to do, from a good tv channel selection, books and wonderful activities to keep you engaged and involved. The activity directors are funny and great to lead activities. The food is very good too, a lot of good home cooking here,( the cook knows her way around the kitchen, especially her greens and cornbread). I am so happy I was placed here to rehab after a long hospital stay. The long term residents are all healthy and happy. I could not have asked for a better experience. Thank you to this place for taking care of me and getting me back on feet. My one and only complaint, concern is the call bell system, but they know all about it. In all honesty this is what a nursing home/ rehabilitation facility should be!! I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for long term care and or rehabilitation.

My mom is a long term resident at Highland and though that was a hard decision to make placing her there, I don’t regret my decision. She loves it there. We have been allowed to make her room look more at home with decorating and having some of her personal things there. She calls it her little apartment. The staff is always friendly and attentive. The nurse practitioner there is amazing. The management team is on top of things and I can’t ask for better activities to keep her busy . I thank God daily for Highland and the care that my mom receives.

Not staffed well. One nurse was excellent, and when not there it was not the best. Relative was left on toilet and finally got themselves off. Saw staff at the desk on the phone a lot with a list of patients needing help on board. Kept giving my relative food they were allergic to, even though it was brought to their attention multiple times. Medical neglect in that she was only given one shower in three weeks and ended up with UTI. There was no medical follow-up (was told it was just her fluid build up causing the issue) on why the oxygen level was low and ended up with pneumonia. No real support for family. Constantly following up on concerns. Was told social services would be notified when they left for follow-up. Social services knew nothing. Forget about having laundry done. They couldn't keep people on staff. Some staff were great but it appears that the owners and management fall way short many concerning areas. Had their kids delivering the newspaper, this is great but with the elderly, covid, flu and RSV they shouldn't be in contact with your relatives.

My mom was a patient here and did really well. She went in with several issues and barely had the strength to walk. Working with physical therapy, she was able to get around better than she had in months. She also suffered from diabetes and her numbers were better at this facility than she was able to do it at home. The activities department always had something that she enjoyed going on as well.
