Have worked at Eliseo, formerly named Tacoma Lutheran, for 40 years. Hands down the best. It is a community that includes every level of care. Non-profit with a heart of service with the mission statement matching my core values. My mother lives here starting at Independent and 7 years later in Assisted Living. She knows many folks, including staff, who made the move so much easier. Mother-in-law lives in Health Center, and we are very happy with the care. The activities include all areas of healthy living. Check it out for yourself or a loved one,

The best part.. the nursing staff - they are the BEST.. the bad part is they did not have my mom pain meds and that was terrible.. she was in pain till she went on Hospice. Also she passed away and Eliseo did not contact me - Hospice called after they had a voice mail left on there recorder. Just received a bill, it is for a whole month and my mom passed after only 4 days.

Fantastic community! The new facilities are top of the line and everyone I spoke with was super helpful.

We had an elderly family member staying here for about a month. Over the course of a couple visits, I asked them for relatively simple assistance a few times. Every time they were reluctant to help, or did not help at all. Our family member is incontinent, so he did need to be changed as well as having his clothing washed. When we picked him up to take him home, we packed up his belongings and found his urine drenched clothing just stuffed into a garbage bag and thrown in the closet. I would not recommend this place.

We have lived here at Eliseo for 18 months. First and foremost, our fellow residents and the staff are awesome. Everyone is kind, supportive and loving. And we have developed great friends with our closest neighbors. The amenities “ personal garden plot, exercise programs and gym, wood shop and many art project opportunities are outstanding. And we appreciate the opportunities to socialize “ the Pour a 4 on Tuesdays and The Social on Fridays. The menu in the Bistro is varied, diverse, and delicious. In retrospect our decision to move to Eliseo was one of the best in our 47 year marriage.

Great exercise classes where I work hard, good gym, salt water pool {which has been out of order but which is now open}, extremely friendly staff.Wonderful cooks at the Bistro where nice specials appear every day. My favorite menu staple is the flatbread selection. The Bistro area is great for hanging out and chatting.I spend an hour a day there at least. Garden plots where residents can plant. I just cleaned mine up from over-wintering. Greenhouse. Arts Center for card making classes, beading, acrylics, ceramics, wood working, quilting. I have been so busy I haven't even made it to the Arts Center for classes yet. Shuttle for groceries, libraries, movies, and lots of trips out to eat, as well as other events. We just went over to the Original Pancake House for breakfast. Very yummy, I went to see Shun Yen with a small group from eliseo last year. I make a good use of the medical rides from here as well since I don't have a car.

I am a Disabled Combat Veteran staying here for rehabilitation so I can go home after a lengthy hospital stay. The staff here is fantastic!!! They genuinely care about thier patients. I have a lot of needs with all activities of daily living and they are very nice and helpful. They never make you feel like you are bothering them or at lot of work. They come to your room ready to help and are very gentle and patient with the care they give. I can't recommend this place enough if you need extra care after a hospital stay or you loved one needs to go to a long-term care facility.

We live in one of the new independent living Villas. We moved in in August and are extremely pleased with our apartment! Our daughter's families also are really impressed with the quality of the unit and it's wonderful location in a residential neighborhood in Tacoma. We have a 2 bedroom apartment so our family can stay over night when they visit. The other thing that has amazed us is how quickly we have become friends with those in the 2 Villas. It has been a wonderful transition for us!

I moved to eliseo a few months ago and it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done. The staff and residents are a pleasure to be with. On-campus activities include an art center with classes (including ceramics) and a woodworking shop. An exercise facility with swimming pool, exercise equipment and classes suitable for all levels of activity. There are weekly social events and interest groups such as Book Club, choir, card games, etc Off campus events include trips to the grocery stores, symphony, playhouse, cinema, and twice-weekly visits to various restaurants. The large campus affords plenty of room for walking, enjoying the gardens and encountering friends. I would encourage you to schedule a visit and see for yourself what eliseo has to offer you.

My husband and I just celebrated our one year anniversary living here in the Villa, an independent living condo at eliseo. While downsizing and leaving a home of 30 years is challenging, we are so glad we have moved into this busy, caring community. We have made wonderful new friends and have engaged in many of the activities and events here. As one of my new neighbors says, "Life is easier here!"

Our residents are truly amazing. They are now volunteering at our Olympic apartment lobby. I love seeing their smiling

My dear mother lived the last five years of her life at Tacoma Lutheran Retirement Center (now "eliseo"). I appreciated so much the loving care she received; I felt peaceful knowing she was in the best possible situation for her needs. I decided that when the day came for me to need a place where I could age gracefully, eliseo would be it. I've been here in independent living for three years now. I thank God for the gift of true community and loving staff. I don't fear increasing needs, knowing that God will use the staff and atmosphere at eliseo.

My best friend was registered on Eliseo’s future resident list for years. She bought into the new building a few years ago, and actually spent time in Eliseo’s physical rehab area before moving in. Now a resident for six months, she is so happy with everything! Management throughout Eliseo is competent, friendly and caring. Buildings are well laid-out and cared for. Food is good. Care in rehab wing was first-rate. This is the best living situation she could have bought into. Would recommend Eliseo without reservation!
April 2024
My husband Kenneth and I moved into one of the new Villas at Eliseo in January. This community is wonderful! The residents are friendly and welcoming, the maintenance people come quickly to solve issues, and the IT specialists set things up as soon as residents move in and are happy to rescue those of us who have computer questions. We do love it here. There are many activities for residents to participate in. I am also very impressed with an organization called Helping Hands, who have sales to generate money to buy things for the community and to help residents who are struggling a bit. We looked at other independent living communities, and this was definitely the best. Judy Ryan
April 2024
We moved here 7 yrs. ago. We feel that we picked the right place to spend our last years. We are in independent living, in one of the six-plexes. The neighbors are great and the whole community is warm and friendly. There are plenty of activities throughout the week, both on campus and off. The last two years has seen a lot of changes because of the major build-out of the facility but I feel the staff has been doing their best to keep us comfortable. It is a very good place to live.
April 2024
Clean tidy, recently upgraded the food at the bistro was probably the best food I have ever had at a nursing home. The low rating here does not match up. Staff was consistently working, cleaning rooms - they went above and beyond and when my grandma was showering they wiped down the bed rails mattress and everything more than the hospitals have ever done, exceptional. Also the organization is pretty key someone who works in healthcare and isolation rooms have hanging organizers, pretty cool place.

With every Eliseo staff contact”from coming through the screening doors to our frequent care team contacts to interacting with all the staff at Northridge’s Memory Care Unit”we always leave feeling welcomed, listened to, informed and most importantly we know our mom is in good hands. We have found every care worker, activity coordinator and maintenance person to be friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, since the very first day we moved our mom to Northridge. Additionally, The Mortvedt Center that is available to residents has been a great gathering place for our family events. Thank you again for creating a place where an entire team takes care of individuals allowing the families to be a part of the process.
December 2022
I strongly recommend the caring staff at eliseo. I have extensive experience with this community, where my parent has lived for more than a decade: first in independent living, now in assisted living, and with time in the skilled nursing facility following a hospitalization last year. At every step of the way, I've been impressed by the staff and also the kindness of the other residents who make up this community. During my parent's skilled nursing stay, I found the nursing staff, the PT/OT therapists (who are contracted through Consonus) and the leader of the social work team to be concerned for my parent and collaborative with me, looking out for my parent's best interests. When I visit assisted living, I find the front desk staff and the nursing team to be very helpful - and the nursing team contacts me immediately about any concerns related to my dad and always follows up on my questions. These observations are based on daily visits while my parent was in the skilled nursing facility and multiple visits during the week while he is in the assisted living facility. A note that eliseo has been going through construction, which is challenging for any organization, but also necessary in this case. I do see turnover in the staff, but that is the reality in nursing environments right now- and I am also aware of long-term employees too.
October 2022
Trying to get a return call is near impossible! I have called there quite a few times and I personally have never received a return call. It’s all I asked for every time. They do not care - situation is I’ve had surgery and can’t go see my mom at the moment due to that surgery. And then I call to see how my mom is and I get the run around and a voicemail- which is useless because there is no return call. I can’t drive that far right now - but don’t even know if she is alive. I left a message 8 days ago- still in the dark.. With this type of service I probably would refrain from putting any loved ones at this facility. I’d have better luck talking to myself. The Social worker my mom had was excellent! The CNA/nurses have also been good-. ( a few outstanding) . Rooms are very dated.
June 2022
Construction going on, some challenges with that. Nurses nice. Food ok. Way to far for us to visit daily.
September 2021
My parents had been at Tacoma Lutheran several times in the past and had excellent care. However, this year my Mom was at Elisio and the care was minimal. Whenever anyone went to see her they questioned how she looked and the clothes she had onnone of us ever saw her in her own clothes and the majority of her clothes were not sent home with her. When they discharged her she was brought out in a pair of men’s sweatpants and an extra large mans t-shirt, no shoes on and her hair was filthy. We have yet to get her clothes back and they obviously do not plan to replace themvery disappointed in the care they provided.

My mother has been at TLRC for 18 months. She began in Assisted Living but was moved into the beautiful Northridge for Memory Care. The staff has been attentive and loving. While Mom misses living in her 3 bedroom house, I feel confident that she is well-taken care of; that her needs are being met. She recently spent a week in the hospital, and TLRC arranged for all transportation to and from and is now in their short-term intensive care wing. Now I know what aging in place means! And kudos for the staff being so attentive to the COVID guidelines and restrictions. I truly appreciate all the staff; those who have seen to Mom's needs and the behind the scenes operation. Thank you so much! My family and I are very grateful.
June 2020
After my father passed away in California 2015, it was obvious that Mom needed to move to Tacoma. In Mom's small California town, there was only one progressive and large Senior living facility, and that's where she visited friends.... and, when Mom arrived in Tacoma, she found the same group that she visited in California, and despite touring five other sites. Mom was sticking to what was familiar. Four years later, we found Mom was showing frank, yet early, signs of dementia....., and within another year, it was obvious that the facility that she had chosen had been a great place for independent living, but could not provide the services that were sincerely needed as her cognitive ability declined. It would have been so beneficial, if we had placed Mom in Tacoma Lutheran five years earlier, as Mom is now in the Memory Unit, and she would have had the same wonderful experience within Independent living, assisted living, and transitioned easily to Memory Care.... and have a group of friends who she had developed. I am running out of space to write my review, but my wife and I are highly respectful of the TL facility and it's Staff. Mom's care providers are wonderful, and Mom's Geriatric practitioner is just down the hall, not some large hospital downtown. Of course the cost is considerable, but better than other locations that are courting Millionaires or do not have the same tiers of care.... and at TL there is some means of charity, that is not an option at other senior care centers. Bottom Line, my wife and I are approaching 70, and we anticipate WE will be moving to Tacoma Lutheran in another 12 to 18 years!!

The staff is very professional and knowledgeable. They really care about their residents and making sure they are cared for.

I publicly want to give a my gratitude to Ocean Station, Head Nursing , Social workers, financing department. A big shout out to the Front desk and any other team members I have forgotten. Thank you for being such a Great Team. During this ever changing climate, I Truly feel they have been supportive of my loved ones needs. Continuing to keep family as informed as possible. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed. You are so appreciated. Sincerely Heather

It would be helpful to know if there are residents and staff who have contracted the virus. The last notice was April 6. A Best Practice would update this daily. Failure to have regular updates can lead friends, families, and the public to wonder if something is being hidden. Thank you.

The care staff of the Alpine unit made my mom's last 9 months of her life safe and happy. Every day she would tell me that they love her and treated her like she was their mother. Knowing that mom was always cold they made sure to always wrap her in warmed blankets. She was always clean and smelled great. The nursing staff kept in close contact with me (daughter) and kept me up to date on all medical and personal issues. The entire staff was highly professional and compassionate. Mom was on Hospice however, it was the care staff/nurse who took care of mom and our family till the very end. Thank you all!

My wife and I moved into TLRC nursing in June 2019. The staff - especially the nurses and nurses' aides - treats us and other residents with warmth kindness and skill. Even the agency staff meets this standard. The rooms and even the halls are full of natural light. You can step outdoors easily, into one of many courtyards. The overall atmosphere is open and friendly. For a large operation [several hundred residents in independent and assisted living and nursing] it runs smoothly for the most part with a humane and civilized vibe. We feel lucky. PS: the food is really good.
