I have been a care companion for my friend for nine years. Her POA and I have moved her a total of seven times since she fell ill in 2017. She has been in the care of GenCare Lifestyle at Point Ruston (GCPR) since September 2025. Half of our experiences prior to this move have been less than desirable and the other half tolerable. As one of two care companions to someone who cannot manager their life and has limited mobility, I have an immense responsibility to keep a watchful eye on those who care for our friend on a daily basis. Her experience impacts each of our lives. Management of her affairs is time consuming and an emotional rollercoaster. As caregivers, we must do everything we can to eliminate bad experiences, they are costly in tangible & intangible ways and very disruptive. My friend suffers from PTSD due to the trauma of being mishandled and dropped. She is extremely vulnerable and at the mercy of those caring for her. One time, at her last assisted living facility, I was by her side on the bathroom floor after she fell transferring to the toilet. As she pushed her call button she encouraged me to sit tight and be patient because it would take them a while to respond. She was right, it took 45 minutes. This could have been a life threatening event and I might not have been there. She did not want me to call 911 because she wasn’t hurt. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get her back in her chair by myself and she asked me not to leave her side. So, we just patiently waited together. This is one of many stories over the span of seven moves in nine years. I think it says it all. We then moved her, yet again, to GCPR where they now respond within five minutes or less. They are not short staffed and have a happy & dedicated team. We are here to stay! From the moment we walked in the doors for a tour and started the move-in process, our experience has been stellar. They have accommodated our every need. As my friend’s illness has progressed our needs have increased exponentially. Thank goodness we made the move when we did! I can’t imagine being in the hands of the other care facilities during this extra tough period. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the kindness and expertise we experience on a regular basis. At every turn, they show up with grace, empathy, and an understanding awareness of our circumstances. Our gratitude runs deep for each and every one of them, including those we’ve never met, for the buck stops with them. It is clear to see, this is an extremely well managed care facility. Bravo to all! If you are looking for a safe place for your loved one, stop your search here and get the ball rolling! You just happened upon the very best! P.S. When we made the move to GCPR we expected to pay more for the same care and a larger apartment. That was not the case, our monthly expenses were reduced. We got much more for our money.

By far the nicest of all facilities we visited in Pierce, Thurston or Mason Counties. Checks all the boxes. Both the Staff and Tenants we saw were all smiling, engaged and positive at every corner. We had lunch in the dining room. Menu was extensive. We had four different meals, a breakfast, lunch and dinner among them and all were phenomenal restaurant quality. Andrea Hackman (Sr Lifestyle Specialist) provided us the tour and was the best guide I’ve had in all our tours across The Woodlands, Texas and in the South Puget Sound. Her knowledge, compassion, positivity and kindness put this facility over the top and ended up being one of the main reasons we chose to place Mom here after Christmas. I just retired from a $4Billion manufacturing company where I was the VP of Sales for the USA and Canada and I would have hired her in a minute as she is as good as I have ever seen at performing her job and with flair and fun! Andrea is a Rock Star and Mom is excited to be part of this new family because of her engagement with Andrea! George

As we here at Timberline Legal Services help elderly clients in Gig Harbor, sometimes we need to place them in a care facility. Gencare has become the "go-to" facility for our law business, as they are second to none. The food is amazing, the apartments are very upscale and modern, and the staff members are caring and always there to assist the residents. Activities are always there including movie nights, outings, exercise classes, swimming and so much more. All geared for the elderly needs. Gencare also accommodates higher care levels making it possible to stay if conditions such as dementia or other disabilities progress. The words that come to mind when I think of our experience with Gencare at Point Ruston are: remarkable, outstanding, wonderful, accommodating, caring. We had a very short turnaround time to move a family member into memory care, and the staff at Gencare really came through for us by staying late so that the unit could be ready to occupy very quickly. They were all so friendly and helpful; it really made our experience a great one. The facility itself is absolutely wonderful and has so much to offer. We would recommend Gencare to anyone looking for a vibrant senior living community.

GenCare at Point Ruston is stellar in all aspects. Choosing a suitable assisted living facility for your aging parents is daunting to say the least. As a healthcare professional I am familiar with a number of assisted living facilities in the area and chose a top rated facility for them (not GenCare). Moved them in and the corporate culture, model of care and happiness index for that facility fell far below expectations over time. On the move again within 2 years > stressful and time consuming. Moved them to GenCare. What an amazing difference in all aspects. The transition was seamless thanks to the staff and corporate culture. They epitomize a person centered model of care. Andrea, the community relations manager was amazing. A real gem! Easily accessible by phone and text. Proactive in listening to the parents needs and coordinating maintenance, nursing, social activities and housekeeping for a seamless apartment move in that met their expectations as well as assisting with the required paperwork (ugh) with a wonderful demeanor and cheerfulness. Kudos to Juan the "IT" guy. Another gem that spent an hour or so giving hands on instruction on how to use the television remotes, phones, appliances, emergency pull cords, location of the fire alarms and what to do if the alarms sound and answering all their questions. All other staff that we came in contact to and from the apartment were pleasant, respectful and in good spirits (high happy index). Oh yeah, the food and servers were great. Restaurant quality in both regards. Thanks for reading this lengthy review. I was just blown away by the facility and staff making a successful, less stressful move to a new facility. We brought my brother-in-law downstairs for the Christmas party dinner. It was excellent! The kitchen cares about the quality and the variety of the food and its nutritional benefits. Resort style assisted living community with luxury amenities (pool, movie theater, spacious lobby). Quaint Pt. Ruston vibe with local shopping, movie theater, and restaurants nearby. Wonderful staff from the kitchen, to wellness caregivers, and front managerial staff. Tip: do your research and know what you are getting yourself into with regard to your loved one's needs. Also, be aware that GenCare is top notch quality but requires hefty community deposit of 8K (separate from monthly rent). I am grateful and thankful for the care they provided for my mom. Thanks to Lillia and Andrea for all their help and support during her transition to assisted living.

My parents started in independent living in a 2 bedroom handicapped beautiful apartment. They enjoyed the apartment as well as the fun activities and social events in the community for a few years. They added assisted living services while staying in their apartment- medication management- when they needed it & it took the stress away for both me as well as them. Recently, they moved to the Peak floor (memory care) as they both needed more assistance. It was an easier transition since a lot of the staff were the same & they still join the events, parties and dine on the main floor with old and new friends. The Peak floor offers more caregiver staff to assist them. The Gencare Staff go out of their way to enrich the residents' lives and care for them. Gencare has been flexible meeting their individual needs as they age & their needs change. Gencare is also in a beautiful location at Point Rustin where my parents can enjoy the area, the views of the Sound and Mt Rainier & all the different generations of people living around there. It's easy for visitors to take them to a restaurant or coffee shop nearby and walk. I feel that I am working with a team of support to help me offer the best care & life for my parents.

Beautiful facility with great staff Our move in was delayed by my mom’s doctor. Other than that delay everything went great. My mom was moved in just prior to the Holiday Gala which we all attended! It was fantastic, prime rib, salmon, beer and wine, tiramisu for dessert and Blind Pigs Jazz group, playing holiday music, and special requests.

Don’t judge a book by its cover. GenCare at Point Ruston is a beautiful facility, and has a very good marketing strategy. Where they fell very very short is in their ability to care for the residents that need progressive care. We looked at numerous assisted living homes and were convinced Gencare was the right choice. The marketing director and executive director convinced us that as our elderly fathers needs advanced they were fully qualified to care for him. From memory care, all the way to end of life care. The reality is they could not care for his needs beyond independent status. There were numerous missteps and outright untruths that happened during my dads 6 months at the facility. From medication confusion, to neglect, and food safety issues. Gencare is a great place if your loved one is independent, active and able to advocate for themselves. If there are any care needs beyond having meals prepared this is not the right place. The 5 star reviews are misleading , there has been a top down leadership change, and the facility went from 12 residents to 134 from April 2022 now . Our opinion is they do not have the qualified staff in place to care for the geriatric needs as their resident age.

I cannot say enough to express how happy I am with Gencare at Ruston Point. We recently moved my parents from their home into a Gencare apartment. One parent was excited and ready for the transition, but the other was less than thrilled. Unfortunate, it was the resistant one whose health and aging was the reason the move was necessary. Nallely was warm and welcoming. She took the time to answer each question and eased the stress by approaching challenges with solutions. She validated emotions and helped us to know we were not alone and that our feelings were normal. And then there is Patty! She is upbeat, positive and ready to help connect you (at your pace) and get you settled in. The building is beautiful and very clean without feeling hospital sterile.’ You’ll find it hard to tell if you are in a retirement community or in one of the upscale condo buildings that surround it. The care staff don’t wear scrubs, they wear normal clothing, so you don’t feel like you’re in a medical facility. My Dad is a tough nut to crack yet after only a few days, (hours really) he was feeling happy, cared for, seen and at HOME at Gencare. In conclusion, the Gencare facility is top notch, but it’s the staff that make it stand out as exceptional.

This over 55 residence is phenomenal in every way. Mommy moved in recently and is thrilled with the location, happy staff and her apartment. There will be lots for us to do together once COVID-19 is a hindsight. Movie theater 2 blocks away, long waterfront walking paths along the Puget Sound. New public market nearby, kind of a pike place vibe to it. Coffee shop on an adjacent corner of her building, boutiques and ice cream shop, restaurants, dentist, bank all within walking distance. She’s selling her car, doesn’t need it. It’s really a wonderful place for the resident and their family and friends to experience.
