They have acclimated to Avita and love the staff, activities and the setting in beautiful Wayland is lovely and serene. My mother lived at Avita for 5 years before passing in 2022. She had lived at a another assisted living facility that had moved her to the memory care unit and it was a terrible transition. My brothers and I made the decision to move Mom to Avita,. This was the best decision we made for Mom's care. The transition from her other memory care to Avita was seemless. Mom's adjustment was smooth, as the loving caretakers made her feel welcome. The neighborhood set up at Avita makes it easier to make friends, and then come together for larger entertainment. And entertainment was incredible. I have videos of my mom dancing at many events, and I look at these now with such fondness. The staff and caretakers at Avita really care about your loved ones, but also about you as their family. I highly recommend Avita.

To say that she loves this home is an understatement. We appreciate everything that the staff does to maintain a beautiful environment for all residents. This is not the "nursing home" of your past experiences. This is a beautifully designed space meant to make you and your resident feel at home. The set up into 4 neighborhoods is brilliant. If you are on the fence, take a visit, learn the culture, see the hearts of the people working here. The staff is great and the people are so kind. A stand out is Jazz, she is the coordinator of activities and the warmest heart and person you could ever meet! Our resident is very, very, very, happy here and we never thought she would leave her home after 94 years.

Moving my mom to Avita of Needham was a great choice for our family. She is closer to me so I and her grandkids get to see her more often. Everyone on the staff has been wonderful to my mom. They are warm, engaging and so kind. Recently, Kevin went above and beyond by not only receiving new furniture I had ordered for mom but putting it together, moving it in and moving the old furniture out. Thank you to everyone on the staff for taking care of my mom and keeping her safe.

My mother has been a resident at Avita for over a year now. From the moment we toured Avita and met the care team we knew this was the place for our Mom. The decision to transition a cherished family member from independent living to an assisted living environment is never an easy decision but knowing what Avita could offer for our mother made the decision a little easier. Since moving to Avita our mother has flourished. She has made some wonderful friendships with other residents as well as members of the Avita care team. Avita provides a nice mix of onsite and offsite activities as well as some downtime for residents to relax with family and friends. We also enjoy the events Avita has that bring in various musicians to perform for residents and their families. My Mom has been at Avita for the past year. My siblings and I looked at several memory care homes and Avita stood out right from the beginning. The staff are all so welcoming and caring. The people who works there whether directly with the clients or not will go out of their way to assist any need a client or family may need. Avita is immaculate. My Mom has gone on so many outings and it’s no problem she is in a wheelchair, she is accommodated. Avita has so many events for the clients, music, history talks, dances ,family nights, art, nail-care hairdressers, there is always something going on. Bringing my Mom to Avita was a big decision however we feel so blessed to have found it.

I saw her with a woman that lived there and Debbie had so much patience with her, it was very nice to see someone so kind. Also, Manny in activities is also very sweet and kind. My mother lived a wonderful last 9 months of her life at Avita. At 100, it was a big deal to move her to a new facility. She was happy there and felt safe and cared for. From the very beginning Mary Jane 'held my hand' and was clear that this would be a great move for my mother. Mary Jane was absolutely correct, and I could not have gotten my mother there without her support. From the desk staff, to the kitchen and housekeeping staff, to the activities staff, to the administration, to the nurses and ultimately the angels on the ground in the Zen community--it's an incredible community. I and my mother were embraced, cared for, respected, and loved until my mother's passing in July. Not only did we lose my mom, but I lost my Avita family-on a daily basis, anyhow--I'll be back to visit! Thank you for being an unusual community, one with heart who cares about not only your residents, but their families as well.

The Avita of Needham staff are simply incredible! My father was a resident at Avita for 14 months until he passed away. The entire staff was there for our family during every step of his journey and have truly become like extended family. We are so grateful for all of the care and support they provided not only to my father, but my mother and I as well. We were welcomed with open arms when my father moved into the community and the entire staff made sure the transition to my dad's new home went smoothly - for all of us. The staff truly takes the time to get to know their residents - their likes and dislikes, their hobbies, their professions, their family, their sense of humor, and even what they like to eat. They helped create a care plan that allowed my father to be as independent as possible while proving the care and support needed to keep him safe, healthy, and happy. The activities team provided wonderful activities and programs for the residents - from concerts to cooking - dancing to planting flowers - community walks to religious services and celebrations - there really was something for everyone! The nurses and aides are kind and caring and take great care to get to know the residents and their individual needs. We are so grateful to all of the "Avita Angels" for everything they have done for our family.

They say you know when you know. This could not be more true than with our experience at Avita of Needham. My mother was in rehab after a fall, and I needed to find a new residence fast. Having grown up in Needham, I thought it was a good place to start. From our first meeting, everyone I met at Avita was friendly, warm and genuinely enjoy their work environment. I was listened to and felt heard. My questions and concerns were addressed thoroughly. I felt it had to be Avita for Mum. My first visit with Mum after she moved in, she mentioned just how happy she was. She even told me she wished she’d moved there sooner. That’s as good an endorsement as I could hope for. Avita is a perfect little gem that has changed our lives tremendously. I could not be happier. I highly recommend it as a home setting for any senior with memory cares.

The staff of Avita are wonderful. While my mom was only there a short time before she passed, the experience, care, and friendly community was a great fit. Deb and Mary Jane made us feel welcome from the start and my mom was cared for extremely well by Kimberly and her staff. Her nurse, Mary, was someone who looked out for my mom and developed a nice relationship with her. If you are seeking a smart, friendly, "closed" community I recommend Avita highly. It is a rare combination of a well-run facility with a caring attitude that inspires confidence in you as a son/daughter/family member that made a good choice. As a geriatric physical therapist and case manager and daughter of a resident, I want to thank the staff and management of Avita of Needham for their extraordinary response to Covid-19. From the beginning , the residents came first and the communication to families was timely , detailed and thorough. They worked outside the box to keep the residents socialized and engaged the best they could. Their plan for family visits was thought out with excellent safety precautions . I am so lucky to have my mom at a facility that cares so much for its residents. One of the most challenging times in a persons life is when one's parents can no longer care for themselves. It had become clear that living at home was not safe for our mom, due to her dementia. The concerns of safety, happiness and peace led us to search for a facility that could care for her and support her in this chapter of life. The decision to move our mom to Avita was a difficult one. But it turned out to be a blessing for her as well as for our family. The team at Avita was sensitive to our needs and more importantly sensitive to the needs of our mom. After the move, we were confident that she was safe and well cared for. The services that Avita provided created a wonderful space for our mom. And as we got to know the other residents and staff, it also allowed us to feel part of a bigger family. Our daily visits felt like "coming home," where we were greeted by name and could have a fresh cookie and cup of coffee. And instead of spending our mom's last years as her caretakers we were able to enjoy her personhood. During her five years at Avita our mom was always treated with compassion and respect. And as her skills declined, her care was adapted to meet her needs. Finally, when appropriate, Avita staff recommended hospice to ease the transition of her passing. Very happy with the care for my mom!! She has been living at Avita for almost 6 years and I have been delighted with the care and attention she has gotten as her disease has progressed. When she first arrived and was highly functional they engaged her in many stimulating and fun activities. Now that she is unable to participate, they continue to serve her needs, keep her happy, safe, clean, and include her in what she is still capable of doing. Her aides are loving and compassionate and the activity team appropriately includes residents per their capabilities. Nurses from the wellness team are on top of the day to day issues and are extremely attentive. Everyone from the kitchen staff to the administrators are friendly and take a personal interest in me as well as my mom. Having my mom living at Avita gives me piece of mind to know that she is well taken care of, safe from harm and happy!

My mother has been a resident at Avita for three and a half years. When she arrived, she was in the first stages of Alzheimers, transitioning from a facility in New Jersy that did not meet our expectations. When the decision was made to move my mother closer to my family in Boston, we wanted to be as certain as we could that we found the best place for her, given our past experience with memory care facilities, and given the fact that this was a huge transition for her since she spent her entire married life in New Jersey (my mother is 98). We looked at 4 facilities in the Boston area, and settled on Avita for many reasons. First, it was highly recommended by the person we consulted with who places residents in similar facilities, and we instantly connected with the director of marketing whose mother was a resident. That’s just about the best recommendation one could get! Second, from the moment we walked through the front door, we felt as though we were becoming part of a family. The director greeted us at the door, took my mother aside, and we set up my mother’s room with the help of Avita staff who could not have been more accommodating. We were told it would take about 6 months for my mother to adjust. In fact, within a few weeks, she and we felt part of a caring, supportive, loving environment. Third, it makes a real difference that Avita is solely a memory care facility. In other facilities we explore, the memory cae unit was clearly a second citizen to the rest; it was usually a lock down unit with little or no access to parts of the building that we would be subsidizing. At Avita, regardless of position, they are all trained to deal with residents with dementia. We soon got to know the aides, the activities director, the nursing staff (who can be contacted at any time of day - and they truly know my mother), the business office director, the head chef (who knows my mother loves grilled cheese sandwiches and prepares them specially for her) and the receptionists. Whenever I walk into Avita, I feel a sense of joy - there is always an engaging activity (visits from musicians, indoor games, flower arranging, proms (yes, proms - we had to dig up a long dress for my mother to wear) - makeup, corsages, and all!), celebrations, etc. There are student volunteers who give their time to spend with residents. And Avita doesn’t feel institutional - the neighborhood concept works so well - residents eating in small dining rooms at tables of 4. And the food is great - always a tray full of cookies when you walk in, and other treats each day. I always get the sense that people care for my mother just as they would someone in their own family. To convince you that this is a real review, I’ll mention just a few things that needed attention. Once I noticed that my mother had run out of certain toiletries, but I hadn’t known about it and worried that I should have known but wasn’t told. When I mentioned this to the director, she immediately put into place a system where each resident has a list on his or her wall with items that need to be supplied, and whether there was something needed so that families can check the list and take care of it. This response is typical of Avita - ownership and immediate problem solving. I should also add that we have two grandchildren, and they love coming to visit, mostly because they’re treated as part of the Avita family. They participate in balloon tosses led by Yvette who includes them whenever she can. Although my mother is now in hospice (fortunately for us she can remain at Avita while she is in hospice), she still seems delighted to be where she is, and every member of the staff makes a point of telling us how wonderful she is. We can’t imagine a better place for my mother given her present condition. I highly recommend Avita to any family in need of experts, loving, high quality care for their loved ones.
