Our mother lived at Sunrise of Newton for about three months starting in March 2024 before having to find another place to live. The building is very nice, as is the garden in the back, which is why I gave two stars instead of one (that and a few of the staff who made an effort and held a few nice activities). But none of the services lived up to the promises that were made when I toured the facility, desperate to find a nice place for our mother, who is a two-person assist in a wheelchair. The first day she arrived, as opposed to being "welcomed," she was left sitting in her wheelchair for hours, unable to use the bathroom because they weren't prepared with the right equipment to transfer her appropriately (even though they told me they were). She was told at night to just "pee in her pants" and they'd come back when they could (which sometimes took hours). Some of the aides were nice, but quite a few were dismissive and even rude. My mother experienced long waits after she pressed her button due to Sunrise staffing the minimum required number of aides to meet state regulations. At night sometimes no one came for hours, which is a dangerous situation for an elderly person. Then there would be all kinds of promises that things would change. I heard stories of people waiting for an hour for lunch and never getting it. Once my mother asked for lettuce on her sandwich and was told they were out of lettuce. Some "exercise classes" involved just sitting residents in front of a video. I could go on and on about the ways the services provided did not live up to the promises that were made. I received calls from my mother day and night. We lost the money on the community fee and move, because it was apparent within days that she would have to find another place to live. I will say this — Sunrise has hired a new Executive Director and supposedly will be putting a new team in place, and a lot of promises are being made about improving this facility. But they have a lot of work to do, and I cannot recommend placing a family member here unless there are massive improvements in every aspect of their services. When my mother left, they even charged her the extra week for the required 30 days' notice, even though she was moving out at the end of the month — despite all the money she lost living there for just three months. Do better, Sunrise. Much better.

Gay friendly...for real. Not just a plaque on a wall. My brother has been living here for a month. Staff are amazing!!! Friendly, gay friendly, responsive. Food is great!!! Beautiful environment. Extremely clean and well managed by senior staff. My husband is a physician and I'm a nurse. Sunrise at Newton gets superlatives all the way.!!!!!

Where do I start? I visited Sunrise of Newton on January 2nd at the recommendation of a family friend who had used another Sunrise location for her mother. This was a very new situation for me and my family, as we were no longer able to provide adequate care for my mom who, at just 70 years old, was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's and vascular dementia. Just recently, at 71, she was also diagnosed with Parkinson's - not an easy feat for any caregiver. Nervous and cautious about the decision to move my mom into a care facility, Nicole, the Sales Director, was knowledgeable and compassionate to say the least. She showed us the "community" and all the amenities and activites they offer. Not to mention, the place is beautiful and peaceful. Thanks to Nicole's reassurance of the level of care they could provide, I made the decision to transition my mom just days later and moved her in on January 10th. The staff, even from the first tour, have been amazing!!! Thank you, Nicole, Dan, Anna, Obi, Olan, Adelaide, Marilou, Winnie, Kahl, Nancy, Marianne, Anisha, Pam, Monique, Jaime (sorry for any misspellings) and many, many others who have gone above and beyond to welcome Becky and our family into their community. Oh and the maintenance team (I forget names, Chris I think) who fixed my mom's hospital bed, which got damaged in transition, on the spot at 5:30pm on move-in day. I just can't say enough, and I definitely made the right decision. Note: I never leave Google reviews - that's how impressed I am. Oh and the food is fantastic!! Thank you, Team Sunrise of Newton!!

We are looking at this place as an memory care option. It opened in April of 2021 so it still has a way to go to get to capacity. The place is fresh and new. Thoughtful interior with stimulating art. Great facilities and 4 room options. Our only jarring note on the visit was observing an activity where a staff member was shouting instructions to a resident. The person may have been hard of hearing but it didn't feel respectful. We will definitely consider this plac

This place is AMAZING! I visited this place to provide music to the residence and I was blown away. The staff was really friendly and knowledgable about the facility, the facility itself was very clean and inviting, and the facility was very easy to get to. I even got to view some of the rooms, which were beautifully decorated and designed for those who may need physical assistance. In short, this is a wonderful facility and I hope to visit them again soon!
