My mother was a resident at SDRC from 2010 to 2012. She was in the former Memory Cottage. She received nothing but loving and compassionate care for the two years she was there. Everyone that helped care for her gave her the best care possible with her memory loss. She loved the other residents and the staff and eventually considered it home. My family had known the owners for a long time, my grandfather and grandmother were also residents there at one time. When it came time for my father to enter a long term care facility we were saddened to learn they had a 2 year waiting list at that point. If it hadn't been for that he would have most definitely been there. Such a beautiful view and beautiful community. Every one of the residents I have met have been very happy with where they are. Thanks for the superior care you provided for my Mom.

Working in the industry I get asked a lot for recommendations and Stuarts Draft Retirement Community is always top of my list for assisted living. They are absolutely wonderful, so caring towards the residents and staff. I can't tell you how many times I have had the pleasure of interacting with this community and watching the owners, administrator, Director of Nursing and staff participate in events. I often like to look at the residents' reactions and they are engaged, smiling and looking at the staff with such love, respect and appreciation. They truly live their values, a Christian based community led by faith. If you are looking for a place for you loved one, this is where I would put my mom or dad, fantastic.

My wife's grandmother has been in this community for over 15 years. At first living independently and in the last year has moved into assisted care. It has been a great community. The staff are very professional and have developed meaningful relationships with her. We enjoy getting to visit her in her community where she can have good relationships with staff and other residents.

My mother Lakie McMillion was a resident at SDRC, first in an independant apartment for about 6 months, then transitioning directly to assisted living in the former Cottage in October 2016, eventually moving to the newly built wing at the Meadows, until her passing on June 23, 2020. As a whole and the vast majority of the invididual staff members over the time she was there were incredibly kind toward her and remained patient with her, not just at the beginning but especially during her unexpected transition to assisted living which was a very difficult transition for her for a few weeks. There were several nursing staff with whom she grew very, very close. The things she dreaded most in her later life were having to leave her home in West Virginia and all that was familiar, and entering a nursing home. I don't know of another assisted living facility or another situation that could have worked out as well as SDRC did. The nursing staff would often tell her they loved her and I don't think that was just something rehearsed. I think they meant it. And she loved them as well. There were some difficult moments for her, based on her physical challenges and adapting to unfamiliar surroundings. But the homey atmosphere, home cooked meals, and relationships that developed with staff and other residents to varying degrees made it easier, made it sort of like family even when family other than me weren't able to visit often. I especially appreciate that I was able to see her daily, usually in the evenings, and had freedom to stay as long as she needed/wanted. I wouldn't trade my experiences with her there at SDRC for anything. They were special times, having her close enough for me to check in on her and try to make her feel that she had a connection to the outside world. And knowing that she was well treated and taken care of made all the difference for me and I think for her as well. Tom McMillion Waynesboro, VA

I give the care in the Meadows the highest rating possible. My mother has been a resident there for 2 years, and she absolutely loves it. Her care givers are full of love and kindness and patience and bring smiles to her face many times a day. The staff feel very much like family to the residents, as they get along well, help each other out, and there is a very positive rapport among them. There is very low turn over in staff - because the staff are valued and well taken care of by the management team. This kind of stability and reliability is priceless. In addition, they provide prompt and excellent medical care under the direction of Dr. Hostetter, a wonderful doctor who listens well, cares and responds with all the help he can. There is a spirit of joy that is pervasive among and between the residents and staff which is so uplifting. There is laughter, and singing and my mother has so much fun with the other residents at the dining table, and enjoys the spiritual activities and music provided on a regular basis. She often says of the activities' director "she is so good to me!" It is so meaningful to see my mother blossom under the friendship, love and personal attention of this fantastic staff. May God bless them as they spread his love and joy to all under their care.

When I initially was considering moving to a retirement community I was full of many questions and concerns. However, my concerns were quickly dispersed. Everyone I have met is very open and friendly. Here you will find organized outings and group events of all kinds, as well as neighbors enjoying neighbors. There are lovely open spaces perfect for walking with or without your pet. The mountains are beautiful and of course there is the convenience of being between Stuarts Draft and Waynesboro. Everything is so close. Come on over and enjoy the fun !

This is a wonderful place to retire. My parents, James and Verlyn Salter, relocated to Stuarts Draft 12 years ago in order to be near me. After they had made the decision to make the move to Virginia, I listed 3 retirement homes for them to look at. They looked at SDRC first, and made the decision right then and there to make that their new home. We didn't even make it to the others on the list. I as their daughter am extremely grateful for that choice. My dad thrived there for 9 years, until his passing. There are so many things for the residents to get involved in, and he loved being active in just about all of them. Since his passing, the staff has shown compassion and care for my mom so that she does not feel alone. It gives me great peace of mind in knowing that she is in such a caring environment. Again, I believe that Stuarts Draft Retirement Community is a wonderful place to retire, and I am very grateful to have it in my own community of Stuarts Draft!

My experience with SDRC goes back about 20 years when my father-in-law resided at the Meadows, the assistant living facility. My husband and I could not have asked for a more caring, concerned, attentive staff. I moved here this past April after my husband passed away and cannot imagine a better living arrangement, caring and gracious staff, friendly residents, wonderful food, wide range of activities, beautiful facilities, and supportive resources.

I have a sister there who could no longer manage her medications or other aspects of living independently. She is in Assisted Living and I could not be happier with the care they give her. This is a very difficult point in her life and they have made the transition smooth and even though I live pretty far away, they keep me very much informed and involved with her care. Great service!! I have known the CEO of SDRC , Mr. Leland Brenneman for over 30 years which has given me the opportunity to visit the SDRC on many occasions. I must admit that I have been highly impressed with the facilities. The food is excellent, the staff are courteous and caring, the overall ambience of the center is awesome. The place is very neat and clean. The elderly people staying there are well taken care of. Leland, his son David, and all the other staff working there go the extra mile to provide all the comforts to the residents. My parents have lived in this community since 2018. The amount of care and concern for the them demonstrated by the staff has been amazing. It has far exceeded our expectations. Everyone is so thoughtful and helpful. Not only do my parents love it, I have been so relieved to have them there. Once, when I was hindered by bad weather from taking them to an important hospital appointment, one of the staff members used their 4-wheel drive vehicle to get them there. During the Covid-19 lockdown, the staff made regular trips to the stores for residents, which also helped lighten my burden. I can not say enough good about this organization, which is a true caring community in every sense of the word.

SDRC has been an excellent, safe place for our parents. We feel so blessed to have found them. The staff at the Meadows are all amazing and have cared for both of my parents with a great deal of professionalism, dignity and respect. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for either an independent living situation or for assisted living. We have experience with both and have felt that the Martin's and Brenneman's have been there to support us as we go through this journey with our parents.

I definitely had a poor view of "nursing homes" until I came to Stuarts Draft Retirement Community. I have many friends who live there and their quality of life is incredible for the specific stage of life they are in. The facilities are incredible, the activities and services provided are fun and appropriate, and the staff are top notch. Plus, the view of the Blue Ridge Mountains doesn't hurt!
