Dad has been living at the Waterford for almost two and a half years now. During his time there, the facility has undergone many changes both cosmetically and with staffing - all improving the facility's ability to help and care for its residents. The place is not fancy, but gives off a more homey feel. The cottages each have 12 residents along with about three rotational caretakers. The residents eat all of their meals together and participate in various scheduled activities together. That said, I can sign Dad out and take him for a quick trip to the store or to a nice meal with family and return him to the comfort of his room. The consistency is good for him. Nurses are on staff, if necessary, and the caretakers keep us informed if anything seems amiss with Dad. I can arrange doctors visits and transportation for him easily and by keeping his caretakers informed, they ensure he doesn't miss his appointments (I don't live locally). The rooms are monitored by video and caretakers let me know if he has a fall. I try to meet all of the folks in Dad's life, but sometimes it is difficult from a distance. That said, I have only had positive contact with the caretakers - my questions and concerns have been met with kindness, caring, and willing ability to provide help when needed. Our experience with the Waterford to date has been nothing but good. I rest well knowing that Dad is getting hugs from his caretakers and he has assured me that he loves them and is being well attended.

With memory care, visits are always unpredictable with residents. It can be very emotional and difficult to manage. Visiting at Creekside can be especially difficult because of the overall setup and logistics. The logistics for getting in and out of the cottages is very inconvenient. The cottages are small, and there's little to do during a visit. Other than sitting and watching television in the open concept living room, there's no other activities for residents or families to do while in the "cottage." I've attempted to take and leave things to help occupy her/our time, but there's nowhere to leave those items in the resident's room where she and other residents can't get to it, and putting her names on items, from clothes, shoes, to other things, doesn't seem to matter. Items often aren't there when I return. Conversations are difficult with memory care residents, so simply sitting and talking doesn't suffice. Residents are confused and often restless. Cottages remain locked, so a family member can't freely take a resident outside and back in to walk in the gated courtyard. When we toured, it was cold, and we were told cottages were only locked that day because of weather; however, we found that detail given to us not to be true. They've remained locked, no matter the weather or circumstance. Visits often stir confusion and emotions about the past, and it's much easier on all when the visit can be preoccupied by movement or activity. The "activity" I typically do is clean and organize her room, which is always needed, as I talk to her and get her to "help." It's the only thing that makes the visit feel productive. Even if I feel that my visit has left her more emotional, at least I feel that I'm leaving her with a cleaner, more organized space. ” Goodbyes at Creekside are always difficult, with no easy way to leave. It takes cunning, "sly" moves on the part of the visitor to coordinate with an employee to let you out without the loved one seeing. I equate it to a child not wanting to be left, wanting to leave with you. The parting can be heartbreaking, leaving a visitor feeling worse than not visiting at all. I'd like to visit more often; however, Creekside's overall set up is very inconvenient, and it not only discourages family members from visiting, but any other visitors. There's got to be better solutions for a private pay memory care that costs thousands per month. All deserve better.

As awful it is that our loved one requires a facility of this nature, it makes it more acceptable when our family is treaded with such respect. It is obvious the Creekside's program really works!

Very nice facility. It's clean and it's obvious that they care for the residents in the facility.
December 2022
My grandmother who is suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease was a resident here for approximately 3 months and our experience was full of sheer disappointment. We ultimately ended up bringing her home because of many safety concerns and the neglect that she was receiving while in the “care” of The Waterford at Creekside. Leadership was unorganized and communication between staff is poor/nonexistent. My grandmother wandered past their “secure” gate three times before they made adjustments to their security. She had repeat yeast infections due to poor hygiene. She would go 5-7 days without being bathed. They even told me that she’s allowed to refuse baths and they refused to call us when this occurred or allow her to shower when we were there. It took two full weeks for her to receive medical treatment for a painful, swollen ankle due to an injury that occurred during their care- they blamed this on their paperwork that wasn’t in place. No one could ever tell us what actually happened to her ankle. They started her on a potassium supplement that caused her to have a critically high level which wasn’t monitored while in their care and could have caused cardiac dysfunction… we didn’t find this out until we took her to the primary care doctor upon removal from their facility. I witnessed the staff yelling at other residents and my poor grandmother, even in her confused state, told me that they were loud and mean. AND then if all of this wasn’t enough, when my 82 year old Grandfather couldn’t take the horrible “care” any longer and moved her out of their facility- they charged him for another 20 days because he “didn’t give proper notice”. Like anyone would allow their loved one to remain in these conditions. (Never mind the fact that we’re missing most of her items that we brought there for her comfort) I tried multiple times to talk to staff, leaders, and even the VP but no one calls back and the frontline people that are forced to talk to me are just making promises they can’t keep. Bottom line: our experience was horrible. My grandmother was not safe or well cared for by their staff. If you’re reading this review because you’re considering this place for someone you love— look elsewhere.
December 2022
Very difficult to have the nurse actually return your phone calls when you have concerns about your loved ones. Constantly under staffed! Which may cause your loved one not to get bathed. Admin will not return calls. The clothing and bedding you supply for your loved one is constantly mixed up and put in other residents rooms. When I took my mom out of their program, I stripped the pillows because the pillowcase was not hers. The pillow had blood on it that did not belong to her and it was not her pillow as we had written her name on her pillow! She kept a skin infection the whole time she was with them. She has not had an infection since bringing her home. I was so hopeful when I placed her in their care and now I don’t know that I will ever trust anyone again with her care!
December 2022
When issues arise there is no communication with family. If you dont visit then you dont know whats going on. Took 2 months to get a appt with dr. They decided they were not going to take her, but no reason given. Very unhappy with there level of care and family concern

My sisters and I recently toured The Waterford as an option for my aunt as she will be needing assisted living options soon. The staff were professional and kind as they answered our many questions. We were particularly impressed with the cleanliness of the facility and the compassion we saw in everyone we met. What a great asset to the city of Pensacola as the elderly population continues to grow!

First off, let me say the caregivers in the cottage my mother was in were good. They seem to care and work hard at taking care of the residents. However, my mother went there from telling jokes and doing pretty good to dead in one month. Now, she was scared of her prognosis, and her dementia progressing when she experienced moments of clarity. Maybe she was ready to give up, but her companion of 16 years was there visiting her just about every day and he was not expecting her to pass away. She was battling a UTI and passed a week ago at 2am. He lives in the Waterford assisted facility and received a call from Director of nursing stating "Hey, sorry Ms._____ has passed and what do I need to do with the body!" He said it like this to an 87 year old man on the phone at 2am who lives 3 miles away. He lost the love of his life and the nursing director spoke to him like he was garbage and my mother was just a body. The nursing director then phoned my sister who is four hours away and told her the same thing. Yup, your mom is dead and where am I taking the body. We heard nothing from anyone there, until we spoke with our third party representative. She was sad, shocked and appalled that we were treated this way. I still have very few details on what happened. The sales director and counselor there had no idea we were treated this way until our representative told them. They tried to apologize immensely but the damage was done and you can't walk it back. I was told he can't contact families anymore and it's a good thing I never laid eyes on him when I had to go there and clean out her room. They made sure he wasn't there. I just want people to know what I experienced. Placing your loved one in someone's care is hard enough and having to deal with a callous uncaring nursing director is absolutely horrific. My mother meant everything to us, and we are shocked and saddened by her passing.

I would highly recommend Waterford for the care of a loved one who has a mental deficiency coping with life and no one at home to care for them. It is comforting to know that one's loved one is in good hands at Waterford.
February 2022
This place is a wonderful environment. The staff are so involved with the residents showing so much compassion. The residents are involved with activities and enjoy it so much. Homemade food from scratch. You can feel the love and respect for the residents. I would give this place a million stars.
October 2021
Excellent community vibe, my Dad has been here for almost 3 years now, and the cottage system creates little family groups. The residents really bond with each other, and with their staff. Great activities planned for those who want to participate, and others can choose not to, but there is good cheer everywhere. I have told my family that if I ever need to go to this type of facility, they should get me in here!
August 2021
The staff has been rude to my whole family during a very trying time with my Dad. They are very defensive when asked questions about his care. He isn't being well cared for and I am heartbroken. He is a retired military officer and deserves so much better. Please do the right thing and tell families you don't have the staff to care for the more involved residents instead of neglecting them. I would move him today if I could but my mother has power of attorney and is too upset to handle it.

I have been looking for my mother when its time for placement. As i was touring with Crickett at Waterford Creekside the caregivers were playing bingo and singing with the residents. When walking into the main office i was hit with smells of wonderful home cooking. I know this will be the best place for my mother.
March 2021
I have only been here a year working in the kitchen but I have to say its not like working the staff here care for the residents as if they are their family even the director is so sincere about her residents and staff its so much fun to be invited to do activities with the residents and see the smiles on their faces The kitchen takes pride in the food that is preparedscared to be a resident one day myself

August 2020
Great place to work. Almost 15 years of service with this company. I couldnt imagine doing anything else. Out of all of my duties as a caregiver my most favorite is building a postitive loving, trusting and caring bond with my residents. Im not only their caregiver, at the end of the day I am their friend. The best part of my night (11p-7am) is when i have a conversation with a resident and get to know them not as just a patient but as an individual. We dont have your typical assisted living set up. We have cottages that at full compacity only have 14 people residing in the building depending on level of care they need. Which gives our residents the ability to build friendships and bonds with the other residents that reside in the building.
