Our Family was in desperate need for health care for my Mother-in-law after spending four days in the hospital and my Brother and Sister in law were no longer able to handle her needs any longer. After calling twenty plus assisted living in the Annapolis area after Anne Arundel Medical basicly pushed her out of a bed. But some how I ended up calling Charter senior living on riva road left my name and within minutes recieved call from Roxanne Slate this beautiful lady absolutely went out of her way to accommodate her. At noon time on Thursday hospital said your mother has to leave or we are charging you $90 per hour for her stay. Roxanne and her staff jumped into overdrive and within hours we were able to bring mom to her room all setup. I have to say Roxanne and Monda in this day and age you all are a DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH. Our complete family want say, Thank you and all the staff. Our rating is not 5 star it's 10 stars. Call Roxanne she's a WONDER WOMEN

After the assistance and support they offered to make the move, I am more impressed than before. It is more than a room in a facility, it's a new home. While visiting, the caring nature of their staff towards residents was abundantly clear! The building is well laid out and clearly very comfortable for daily living. My sister and I are also quite impressed with the philosophy of care they practice. It is clean, smells pleasant, and has a warm, homey atmosphere that immediately feels comforting. The staff provides compassionate, professional care that honors the dignity of every resident. Memory care is emotionally demanding work, yet the team shows remarkable patience and kindness. Rather than forcing reorientation, instead, they meet each resident exactly where they are, joining them in whatever reality they are experiencing and ensuring they feel safe, understood, and valued. Residents stay meaningfully engaged through a great activities program, and caregivers truly connect with those they serve. I also want to give a special shout out to the nurses in the Wellness Office, Katie and Atiba, for providing exceptional care. Mom was originally in a combination assisted living and memory care facility. I didn't even know memory care only was an option any place. I found Charter Annapolis by happy accident. I was looking to see if the facility mom resided in had any other "sister" facilities. Arriving to the facility, there was a much different vibe, but in a good way! I toured the facility and realized where mom was staying was nothing like this place, again in a good way! Immediately following the tour, I asked what I needed to do to have mom transferred to Charter of Annapolis as soon as possible. Since moving mom, she is so much happier! She is always engaged in activities, loves the staff, and the food, haha. I am so thankful for Charter of Annapolis. I trust them completely to care for my mom and rest easy knowing they care for her just like their own family. I would recommend Charter of Annapolis to anyone considering memory care for their loved one.

Charter Senior Living of Annapolis was a very healing place for my mother. Over her time at Charter, she was able to feel safe and began improving greatly. The staff are wonderful with the residents, always ensuring they are involved and active. The health care providers were sweet and kind to my mom. Mom would hug her nurse every evening after getting her medications. If I was not present for Mom's BP reading, her nurse would record it for me so I was aware daily. That was so considerate of her to take that extra step when she also had other residents to care for. I also appreciated that it was inexpensive for my father to be able to have lunch or dinner w my mom. I knew he ate that day bc he would eat w my mom which is always a concern when a spouse has to go into long term care. The staff also welcomed my father in for their activities and movies. Charter is a very special place with many special residents. My whole family would recommend Charter for any family dealing with memory issues.

I visited the site on Riva Road in Annapolis looking for a potential new location for my family member. I was very surprised by the personal welcome. The concierge desk had a sign welcoming me to their facility. The layout is significantly in that it provides residents privacy in smaller numbers, 4 quadrants that can house 16 residents each and a circular center, so to speak. Residents are free to walk around and will not get lost. A large cage with 2 very chatty parakeets offer entertainment as you stroll around the circle. All walls are decorated in bright colors. The residential wings doors are all designed differently so residents learn where they reside. Several sitting rooms with fireplaces, and media room with beverage center where residents can "fix" their beverage, popcorn machine, piano and big screen tv. Lots of opportunities for residents to take part in their care which I believe gives them a sense of purpose. The staff, Suzi, Susan and all that I met, nursing assistants, cooking teams, nurses and medication techswere so friendly and cleawork very hard to make Charter Senior Care a place where memory challenged individuals of adult age and older can thrive and remain as independent as possible while the staff, all of them work together to provide a peaceful loving and supportive environment for the residents to THRIVE under their care. I would highly recommend this facility for their approach to the memory care needs of both their residents and family. Charter offers monthly inservice and social gatherings for family members of those struggling with Alzheimer's and other memory-affected issues. A great networking opportunity to garner support and share concerns with others living with the same issues. Kudos to Charter Senior Care of Annapolis, progressive in their execution of services, well educated and trained staff and the needs of their residents and families is their goal. Seeing so many residents milling around, smiling was very heart-warming. Of course it is not home but it is pretty darn close. My family and I recommend Charter of Annapolis with 5 stars.

We recently moved my grandmother into Charter and I was blown away by how the staff made it as smooth and painless as possible. We felt very supported each step of the way. Suzi dropped everything and gave us a tour when we just stopped in for an information packet. She was always super responsive and just a text away. She answered every single question we could possibly come up with. Melaina is the sweetest and she has been so gentle and kind with my grandmother. Cindy was very patient and thorough with her assessments. Tabitha makes an amazing banana bread! She stopped and talked with us on more than one occasion during the intake and move in process. Our journey with Charter is just starting, but I can’t imagine a better team to take care of my Nana.

Update: My brother passed last week and was under hospice care. Staff at Charter was very supportive and caring throughout this difficult time. Special thanks to Joann the Care Coordinator, her kindness was much appreciated. My brother has early onset Alzheimer’s and was starting to decline. Brent Matherly and his team were wonderful and easy to work with in the transition to a Memory Care facility. The set up is nice with beautiful grounds and areas for residents to walk inside and gather. Each cottage area has an individual kitchen. The facility offers onsite doctor visits, podiatry, dermatology and other amenities. Staff is compassionate and the rooms are furnished, compact but very liveable. The facility only offers Memory Care which is a big plus.

It was such a pleasure to visit my sister community Charter Senior Living of Annapolis today. I immediately felt comfortable as the team members welcomed me into their community. Everyone I passed stopped to say hello. The Executive Director took time to engage with every resident she passed. The community was bright, clean, and felt homey. There was so much to see! Pets were engaging with the residents; a group was playing golf; residents were making their own drink creations, and volunteers were bringing smiles. The layout of this community is a unique and awesome design for those with dementia, allowing room to walk freely and enjoy the outdoors at their leisure. I left this community smiling and fulfilled from everything I experienced.

I'm so happy I found Charter of Annapolis. My ex-husband Brent, has Alzheimer’s/Aphasia. It's a horrible disease because he can't read or write and struggles with speaking. When searching for a memory care facilty for Brent, I knew I would have to find a place that Brent would trust, not only the staff, but the residents. I dropped him off on Nov.13th, waited one week to return, and when i did return, i had never seen Brent so happy & relaxed. I could tell he felt safe. The staff seemed to genuinely care about him, and they told me how easy he was to love. The next four months have been filled with activities, holiday events, luncheons, outings, etc., and Brent has participated in almost 80%. During that time, I have gotten to know the staff and the aids better, and each one of them is awesome. I thank God every day for finding Charter. It is a huge comfort to know your loved one is in good hands, and I thank each of the staff for taking such good care of Brent.

We cannot share enough 5 star reviews for Charter Senior Living of Annapolis under new ownership/management. Our 91 year old mom started with onset dementia about 4 years ago and as difficult as it was to move her to a residence like this, it has been a great transition for her! The transition was way more difficult for my 92 year old dad and her kids. She has been there 2.5 months and thriving. The executive director, marketing associate and care activities coordinator along with the amazing nursing staff and, of course, the caregivers and chef are above and beyond. The food is fabulous, the building and rooms are newly renovated and very tastefully decorated. We are so grateful the timing worked out and were able to secure a spot for our mom after looking at many of the popular places in town! A true Godsend!

Now that my wife has been at Charter Senior Living in Annapolis for 5 months, I felt now would be a good time to provide a review. Let me start by saying the decision to place my spouse, who has Alzheimer’s, in a Memory Care facility was not easy, but one that had to be done. For over two years I knew that day would come and visited over a dozen Memory Care facilities. Waiting until the last second to find an appropriate place would not have been fair to her. While many of those I visited were nice, I just didn’t get the comfort level I wanted. This is not to say those places were not acceptable, but rather not where I felt my wife could thrive to her fullest. My first impression where Charter stood out was their physical environment gave a home type feel. Many pictures on the hallway walls, separate dining room and common area TV room in each of the four wings, activity room, grounds where one could walk amongst trees and plants along with many places to sit outside. Another area of strong appeal is Charter is 100% memory care. Thus, the entire staff is memory care only. Whereas other places visited were a combination of independent and/or assisted living along with memory care. Management, caregivers, medical personnel, and support staff have all been a pleasure to work with. Not only do they listen to any concerns I may have, but they act on those concerns. Staff is rotated to each of the four wings in the facility resulting in each of them getting to know every resident and more importantly, each resident getting to know the caregivers and being made to feel comfortable. The daily activities provide my wife with the stimulation I could not provide at home. I am very pleased with the care she is receiving. I know when I leave after each visit, she is in good hands. That’s all I can ask for.

My loved one moved in 3 months ago. It was a really really hard decision for me to make but Lauren and Victoria were helpful in so many ways. My loved one is active and loves to walk all day. Charter Senior Livings fenced outside area is beautiful and goes around the building so the residents can walk around outside on nice days. She has made a good friend and is always happy when I see her. The staff is great and friendly. Facility is very clean and all updated. The meals look very good. I am Happy with my decision to move my loved one in to Charter Senior Living.

We looked at Charter as my mom was being rejected from many places due to the fact that she was considered a "hard case." The tour could not have gone better - we walked throughout the facility and it was clean everywhere with absolutely no odors. Lauren was fantastic in answering all of our questions. My mom was not in Maryland, and Lauren took it upon herself to figure how to get my mom here and she found out that my mom's insurance would pay for at least some of the expenses - this was before we even put a deposit on the room. Lauren was informative, without being pushy - Charter is extremely lucky to have her as the face of that community - Lauren was simply awesome. She knew the names of every person living at Charter when we went on the tour. Ultimately, my sister found a place near where my mom was living (a few states away from Maryland), so we did not transfer her to Charter, but I was completely confident that they would have taken terrific care of her. I highly recommend checking out Charter if you have a loved one who is in need extra care.

The nurses who administer flu shots could learn to read the room and not interrupt two people clearly upset over a family member's last few days. My sister and I were crying and upset, but they came in insistent on doing flu shots (like that would've helped anything). They should've just immediately left and maybe done it a different day if it was that important. The fact that it's been a year and I'm still annoyed that my last memory is tainted by the need to do a flu shot.

We needed a safe and comfortable place for my grandmother, who suffers from Alzheimer's and dementia, to reside and to be cared for while my family took care of the details and process of moving both my grandparents to Virginia from Maryland. Somerford Place provided that and more. My grandmother is doing well which is evidenced by her laughter on phone calls and her pleasant demeanor when we visit. She eats well and engages with the staff. We even got Comcast to hook up cable TV in her room. Sherry and her team at Somerford Place stepped in and helped us when we needed and they have taken great care of my grandmother. The nurses have been great and have kept us informed and in the loop regarding my grandmother's care. Whenever we have questions, they answer them and speak to us. We plan to pick her up this weekend and bring her here to Virginia to her new home. I am thankful that we were able to rest well every night knowing she was being well cared for; that alone made a WORLD of difference in this difficult process of orchestrating a move that has had so many moving parts. My siblings and I were suddenly thrust into finding a long term memory care facility for our father, in days, not weeks. We used county and state department of ageing lists and internet searches to find a facility in our local area that could meet our needs. We toured several facilities and were impressed by the Five Star Senior Living properties we visited. We were given an extensive tour and all of our questions were answered. We selected Somerford Place for the convenience of the location, the fact that it is 100% long term memory care and knowing that as a Five Star Senior Living, we would be in good hands. In the three months that my father has been a resident we have found it to be the perfect choice. I have found that every staff member is dedicated to providing the best experience for the residents. They are well trained in the skills of their respective positions. But the one thing that doesn't come from training, per se, is their love of providing for the residents and families. To a person, every staff member cares about the welfare and well being of the resident. They also understand the trying times for the families, and do everything they can to make sure that everyone's needs are met. I highly recommend Somerford Place Annapolis.

My uncle resided at Somerford Annapolis for 7 years. His staff in State house provided him care that was above and beyond the norm in this industry. He never had any skin breakdown from incontinence or when bedridden toward the end of his life. The chef, Deena, did a wonderful job and was often seen helping residents eat who could not feed themselves independently. GNAs Aseelah (there for his 7 years) and Tamara took time to know my uncle and how to best care for him. His nurse, Lucy, provided consistent quality care throughout his 7 years. Sherry in admissions was also supportive and involved in his care over the past 7 years. Thank you all for you care and compassion.

My 84 year old mother was fortunate to be at Somerford Place, Annapolis for the last ten months. From the start, meeting with Sherry Gilde, who guided her entry, and having Fatima, Director of Nursing working on her behalf, my mother was treated with gentle kindness and care. I am grateful too, for the wonderful front desk staff, CNA's and aides who provided patience, persistence and understanding all along the way. Not only did the Somerford staff care for my mother, they also provided invaluable support to her family, both near and far. We are forever in their debt for the wonderful work they do.

Our mom has early onset Alzheimer's disease. She is still very active and loves to walk. She is thriving at Somerford Place because they have a corridor which goes in a full circle so she can walk to her hearts content without getting lost. The staff is wonderful. My father, brother and I have gotten to know them and they take excellent care of her. Mom especially likes Charlie's cookies. We feel so fortunate to have found Somerford Place as mom is now safe and happy.

Navigating a loved one's needs and placement in a memory-care facility can be a harrowing experience. I must convey the superior guidance and counseling Sherry Gilde provided me and my family in a very emotional time of our lives.
