I was at The Blake about a year ago. I toured with some family friends. The place looked terrible. I just returned a few days ago and wow! The maintenance manager has really turned the place around! I forget his name, but it maybe starts with an R. Well done!

This review is to save expense & grief of placing loved ones at The Blake. My mom moved in Memory Care 4/24, mobile & in good health. Soon, we realized the care was nowhere close to what we signed. Diet not followed, bathing irregular. Clothes worn days at a time. Fluids not offered throughout the day. She became dehydrated. She had her 1st UTI. Her medications remained the same while there. I put in a camera. One morning, an aide woke her abruptly. She was dizzy & weak. The aide proceeded to seat my mom setting a breakfast plate in front of her, then left the room. Too weak to feed herself, attempted to get up & fell hitting her head. Bloodied, she crawled trying to get up. I remembered a friend was in the common area so I texted her for help. We were in the ER for 5 hrs. Returning to The Blake, Manager, [name removed], promised she would put extra sets of eyes on my mom & make use of the alert system so this would not happen again. The next morning, 2 aides woke my mom, lifted her up, but she fell back onto the bed. They pulled her up & proceeded to take her down the long hall to breakfast! My mom was allowed to fall again hitting her head & bloodying her nose before leaving her room. They left her alone on the floor waiting for help. She was taken to the ER for another 5 hrs with the same scans and xrays as the day prior. The doctor admitted her. My daughter & I arranged a meeting with [name removed] and corp's new pit bull, [name removed]. This was the first time we met [name removed] who is without compassion, understanding or patience. Rather than discussing my mothers care, [name removed] proceeded to tell untruths turning the table on us. All [name removed] said was, "Judy, one day you like me and the next you don't." That's when I realized it was personal. [name removed] shoved a paper in front of us that said my mom had 30 days to get out. My mother is the kindest person you'd ever meet. My daughter & I were in shock! There are waiting lists for memory care facilities. 30 days? It was my daughter's bday & this ruined what we had planned for her later. I was physically ill for over a week. We were forced to tour other facilities during heat advisories. I've survived breast cancer twice. This bad experience ranked right up there. The local Ombudsman called [name removed] to say 30 days was not adequate. Asking [name removed] what she said in the meeting, [name removed] realized that she could not back up her statements. Then, she proceeded to tell the Ombudsman what to say to her boss, [name removed], to get him to wave the 30 days (recorded). She called him and he agreed, only if we removed our Google review! Reviews are FREE SPEECH! A few wks after, my mom was wandering the hallways trying to get someone to let her in her room. She fell again and hit her head. Screams finally got the attention of a caregiver. Another ER visit, this time her scan revealed fluid on her brain. She was admitted & we removed her from The Blake taking the 30 days. We had to place my mother in another facility for 2 wks until she could move to her new home during which she contracted COVID for the 1st time. We had several meetings over the 4 mos & they promised things would get better. [name removed] is the only person who has been there a while & it is she who corp believes, not fully knowing realities why it's in such a state. Corp flies in from TN & FL for short periods of time. Admitting things aren't up to par, they still sign residents up. Friends have removed their loved ones as well from the Blake. MD's have told me The Blake Memory Care is their least favorite design, huge. I can't tell you how many residents we have helped while visiting my mom. Stuck in doorways, fallen, yelling for help, etc. One resident face planted and died. Our nightmare is over.

I am grateful to be a part of Team Blake. Many many many great people. The residents are the greatest part of my day and the staff are top notch. Carol in activities is wonderful, Brittany in memory care is amazing, Cordell and his dietary team are excellent, from Allison in sales, Rick and Dawn and the maintenance and housekeeping team, Heather as our leader and Amanda and the best wellness team I can be a part of. The building is absolutely stunning and I can't emphasize enough that the residents and staff are family.

My mom's attitude and quality of life has increased 100% since moving to The Blake! The sweet staff; the clean, safe, and spacious environment; and the healthy meals have contributed to her increased quality of life. While these factors are all very important when deciding to place a loved one in any type of facility, our family also seriously considered the daily activities that are provided. Activities and socialization are of key importance for an elder person's physical and mental health. In my mother's case, I have to admit that the activities at The Blake are most definitely the driving force behind her positive attitude! My mom is very outgoing and while she is need of some assistance, she is no where close to needing a nursing home type of environment. We find the activities at The Blake to be extremely inclusive and entertaining! The staff is very attentive and ensures that everyone enjoys themselves! I personally am impressed with the variety of activities; from various holiday parties to paint and sip to bingo! Oh and the regular outings.... restaurants, vineyards, and shopping allows the residents to get out and enjoy the Charlottesville community! My mom and our family all agree that The Blake is a wonderful place to live!

10 out of 10 would recommend this place for my loved ones. We're hoping my father-in-law will move closer and I know his life and emotional well being will only improve once he comes here. Carol does a fantastic job with activities and programs that I know will keep him engaged and he'll love the food which is his number one priority these days.

It is a joy to see and hear of all the wonderful activities that the The Blake family shares together. The endless smiles from each participant confirms that this a great place to be. I wish The Blake team continued joy in their wonderful service to their community. Keep up the good work and the constant variety of activities offered. Well done.

My experience at The Blake was incredible from start to finish. I had quite a handful of questions, but the Director of Sales was very knowledgeable, warm, and welcoming. The community itself is beautiful, and offers a variety of amenities. While I toured, the staff seemed so friendly and accommodating with the residents to meet their needs. I would highly recommend this place!

My dad has lived at the Blake for about a year. It has been a great experience for him and our family. The people there are the reason for our happiness - both those who live there and those who work there. Caring community all the way around. There is an interesting and robust activity schedule. I also have valued how they deal with unique situations... with experienced voices, patience, and creativity.

Hard working group of caring individuals. The community, the residents and the team that serves them, make a great atmosphere.

My great grandfather Frank stays here. He was in assisted living and was recently moved to memory care. We are so happy with the activities that go on there! Plenty of stuff for grandpa Frank to do. Thank you Brittany and Carol!

The Blake is a wonderful community that I am very proud to be a part of! Let's go have some fun, did I hear someone say Bingo?! Is that the sound of the Blake Bus departing on another fantastic outing? .... I better go!
January 2023
I can't say enough positive things regarding The Blake. The community is wonderfully managed and there is always plenty of activities to participate in. When I visited, there was a clear emphasis on creating a community through bingo, movie nights, garden games, etc. If you're looking for a place to start with learning more about this community, reach out to the fantastic Sales Director, Heather, who is so compassionate and caring. Don't second guess taking a chance to check out The Blake, it's worth every minute!!
January 2023
The aging landscape and healthcare staffing is incredibly hard work and takes absolute dedication. While there's always room for improvement, it's clear the team at the Blake is striving and adjusting to meet the needs of their residents.
December 2022
Heather and the entire Team at The Blake are incredible! It is so clear that everyone truly loves what they do and take pride in their community. The Blake is lovely - inside and out!

This ALF is supreme. I have visited multiple times and everyone is wonderful. The residents are happy and have the ability to be safe. They have privacy but also get to enjoy the community features and company of similar neighbors. Staff is fantastic and very professional and friendly.
November 2022
Have been meaning to post this for a while now. I moved my dad to the Blake back in May after a hospital stay. He was getting therapy and working hard to get back home. We found everyone at the Blake to be DELIGHTFUL! We were treated like family (including putting up with the frustrations of an older gentleman!) The facility was beautiful and always spotless! Heather did a great job at helping us get started. Amber was a great contact for me and really kept an eye on my dad. My dad had a procedure at the hospital while he was there and they checked on his throughout the night when he returned. His nurse and CNA were so loving and patient with him. While my dad isn't a "social" person, the activities they had were great. The other residents were so sweet too. Honestly, I was wishing I could move in!!! My dad (like most folks) really wanted to be home so we eventually moved him home. The director was so understanding and kind when we told him we were moving - even going so far as to say "this isn't goodbye, it's see you later!" and offered for us to come and attend any activities they were offering. I feel quite comfortable saying that, if we needed them again, I wouldn't hesitate to move him back in! Thank you to all the staff at the Blake for making a tough time SOOOOO much easier!!
October 2022
The administrative staff members are always so accommodating and welcoming. Heather is a pleasure to work with and her attention to detail is top notch.
August 2022
Been here 2 1/2 years. Perfect size for Assisted Living and Memory Care. Facility is new, technologically up to date, with caring, competent staff and management. Facility is large enough to offer all amenities: dining, outings, in house activities, nurses, and medical staff to handle all issues. But small enough that it does not have a large, impersonal, hotel fee. Staff knows every resident's need and idiosyncrasies, attentive response times. Best facility for caring for residents.
