My dear Mom was a resident of The Gardens for a year and a half before she recently passed away. When I was searching for a home for her, she was VERY resistant to the idea and wanted to stay in her homebut at 95, that was no longer possible. But from the moment we entered The Gardens, I could see that this was the perfect new home for her. It was absolutely lovely, (and so clean!) And seeing a bunch of the residents lounging in the common area, talking and laughing, made a great first impression. And I found out this was a common occurrencemany times when I’d come to visit Mom, in that same area, I’d see a lively crowd, either just enjoying each others’ company or participating in one of the Garden’s many scheduled activities. From the laughter, I could tell they were having a great time! From that very first meeting, with dear Wendy Williams patiently guiding us through our indoctrination, until Mom’s final days there, she was treated with love, kindness and great care. She was not always the easiest resident, as she had a severe hearing loss, had many ER visits, which ended upon with a few stints with rehab, and lots of small injuries (usually due to her wish for independence and wanting to do EVERYTHING by herself!), and the nursing staff always took great care of her, getting her back to normal! The Garden’s staff was ALWAYS so kind to her, stopping in to check on her through the day to make sure she was doing OK. I would visit Mom a few days a week, and and could see how hard everyone worked; sometimes juggling a few patients’ calls at a time! But the care she received throughout her time there was so kind and so caring that I felt she was in good hands. And during her extremely difficult final two months, I saw SO much compassion, and such loving kindness, that I was able to go home at night feeling she would be safe and cared for. I wish I could list the names of all of the Individuals who helped my Mom during her time there I would, but I know I’d leave some out, so I won’t even try! But I will be forever grateful to each of them for taking such wonderful care of my mother. But I DO have to mention Cheryl Rudolph, the Director of Wellness! She is SO professional and knowledgeable, yet also SO caring, and she became my rock, and my shoulder to cry on throughout Mom’s last months. (And she has formed and shaped a great team!) I will FOREVER be indebted to her. All in all, the best place I could’ve found for my Mom!

What a CUTE place! We have explored every single senior residence in Virginia Beach. Initially we ruled out The Gardens because we live off of Sandbridge Road and felt the distance could be a challenge. I am so grateful we went to check it out!!! THIS IS. THE PLACE for Mom. The place is smaller than some of the large institutions around here, which made it feel homey and welcoming. We visited on a Fri evening. Instantly upon walking in, the place was welcoming. A number of the residents were socializing in the lobby area where a huge jukebox cranks out old-timey music and others were lingering over their evening meal or hanging in the hallways. Everyone greeted us and we were taken on a tour. Wendy Williams the Executive Director answered all of our questions and showed us the room that was reserved to be for Mom. Well, fast forward, we are now approaching the one month mark of her living there. Everything has gone well. All of the questions we had were answered and little Move In check list items checked off right away. We are happy we found the Gardens! What a Gem

Needed a place quickly for friend. Not only did Wendy help us she she went above and beyond. We were able to move in within about 3 days without difficulty. The staff has been amazing and compassionate to her and doing everything to meet her needs. Thank you Wendy and Wanda and Cheryl and all the staff at the Gardens!!

The Gardens of Virginia Beach is a bright, comfortable, and beautiful facility with friendly knowledgeable staff. Wendy Williams was outstanding while guiding me thru the process of trying to move my dad from out of state. She was knowledgeable about travel arrangements, care needs, and financial issues. Her compassion and understanding took a lot of the stress out of the search process. You owe it to yourself or your loved one to consider The Gardens!

The Gardens of Virginia Beach receive a full 5-star rating from me. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful, and the building and grounds are well-maintained. After touring several other assisted living institutions in the area, I find The Gardens to be the best place for my 91-year-old mom. I know that she'll like it there and that the staff will take great care of her. Wendy Williams has been a great help from the beginning, working hard to prepare everything for my Mom's arrival.

We Can't Say Enough About The Gardens of Virginia Beach. Ms. Wendy and Staff Have Been a Blessing for Our Mom. It's Been a Big Adjustment for Her Since Our Dad Passed, but She's Made Great Progress Since Being There. The First Day Our Mom Moved In, Ms. Wendy, the Staff and Residents, Welcomed Her, at the Front Door, with a Cheering Section. Now, We're the Cheering Section for Ms. Wendy and the AMAZING STAFF. Our Mom Loves the Food and Enjoys Meeting the Other Residents, While Still Having Her Independence and We Love Knowing that She is Residing in a Safe and Caring Environment.

I took a tour of the facility/ community recently with Wendy and I was thoroughly impressed. The residents like her and seemed happy. The facility was also clean.
July 2025
My mother moved in April 2024 and has been very pleased with her time spent there. Support staff have always been friendly and helpful, plus the atmosphere is bright and cheerful, with lots of daily activities. I especially want to thank Wendy Wiiliams, Sales Director, who has gone well above and beyond her job description assisting mom and me in when we've had a question or needed help. I would definitely recommend this facility.
May 2025
The Gardens at Virginia Beach has some of the best staff I met compared to a lot of other assisted living facilities. Wendy, in particular, was very friendly, thoughtful and provided us an extraordinary tour. One thing that struck me, was that the residents seemed happy. I think your loved ones would be cared for and happy if you made this place your new home.

My husband and I looked at many, many assisted living facilities and The Gardens of Virginia Beach was our hands down favorite. Wendy Williams who is the client liaison is wonderful.. She is patient and understanding and very professional. The place itself is very homey and feels more intimate than most of the others. I highly recommend The Gardens

The staff treats my mom with respect and dignity. Also are friendly and professional. The Gardens does a great job communicating to the families as well. Thank you.
April 2025
My mother has been living here for 15 months now. Feel so fortunate for the care given to her at The Gardens. All facilities like this have staff turnover from time to time, but honestly, it hasn't been an issue during her time there. Almost everyone, from resident care to the dining staff, help to look after her as her dementia issues advance. We live with 15 minutes away and engage with the staff often. This helps, but their special care gives us tremendous peace of mind.

Clean, friendly and Wendy was very patient and pleasant to have as our sales representative. Thank you again for your support.

My Dad recently moved into the memory care section of The Gardens. It was a difficult decision, but Wendy, Wanda and the rest of the employees we've dealt with made it a smooth transition. My Dad has been welcomed warmly which I truly appreciate.

My mother has lived at The Gardens for 1 year. It quickly became home. The staff is accommodating and kind. She is active, social and happy. The Gardens was the right choice.
February 2025
We recently moved my mother here from another Assisted living community in Virginia Beach. When we were looking for a new place, The Gardens came highly recommended so we checked it out. Wendy Williams met with us showed us around, showed us rooms in both Assisted living and Memory care, explained their operations and mission and, provided the costs, availability and timelines. Wendy was very profession but you could tell she is also very passionate about what she does and compassionate for her residents. Since moving my mother in I have seen this to be true of the rest of the staff. I receive calls and feedback from the staff on how my mother is doing. When shed had a major decline in her condition, they moved her over to Memory Care, and I didn't have to do anything. I know my mother is well cared for and appreciate how she is being cared for. The food is one weak spot, it could be a bit better but otherwise I fully recommend The Gardens at Virginia Beach.

We moved my Uncle out two weeks ago. He wanted to be closer to Norfolk. We had our ups and downs with some staff but Susan and Wendy always took care of the problem. My uncle nicknamed Susan Speedy as she was always on the go and you hardly ever saw her sitting still. They were fair in pro rating rent and other overpriced fees. They also saved my uncle from going into a rehab facility for 6 weeks. I walked the beach and prayed and when I got back to the facility I ran into Wendy and my prayers were answered. My Uncle only had two weeks of rehab and did great. Wendy was a lifesaver. There were management changes that needed to be done and I think things will level out now. The kitchen (food) needs a little help but other than that it’s a great place. No matter where you go there are going to be problems which we had some but yet they were handled.
October 2024
I want to take a moment to say how much I really appreciate all the staff particularly a lady named Wendy Williams who’s been not only someone who I can call and talk to about my father, but someone who I’ve come to trust and appreciate. I had to put my father in a facility he Has been diagnosed with dementia and he is doing so well and thriving at the Gardens and without a doubt of all the places I’ve searched and it there have been several, the Gardens is the safest, most secure with a staff that is willing to communicate and brings to me and my family Great peace of mind. thank you Wendy and thank you for your team and thank you for your medical staff. Thank you for taking care of my dad. It means the world God bless.
September 2024
For the money you would expect the best care but that's just one issue. Diets hard to get their understanding even though dr's orders. Additionally lots of issues with staff not being official in their duties

I’m wonderfully impressed! My mom chose this assisted living home over 5 others we interviewed. She chose wisely. The staff is nothing less than amazing, after just a few days they were calling her by name. I observed that the staff treat all the residents with caring respect. They are quick to respond to requests and with the greatest attitude. I must pass out kudos to Josh Jarvis the Executive Director, who personally addressed some of the maintenance issues we had. Wendy,Sales, not only did a great job she did what she said she would do! Also, Kevin,Dining Supervisor is friendly and attentive, Myrtle, wait staff is lovely and kind, Ranita, wait staff, has an infectious smile and is quick to address issues, Teresa, wait staff, is kind and seriously concerned with the residents needs. Oh, the food is excellent, I’ve eaten several meals and enjoyed every bite. Francis is a breath of fresh air with a quick smile and eager attitude. Whitney the PA, was on top of my mom’s meds before I could even ask her about them. Rita, mom’s house keeper is very serious about her job and does so with a lovely attitude. I wish I had room to name all the lovely people who work there, they all exude grace and caring attitudes for the residents. The residents themselves are a testimony to the kindness, caring and safety they feel living here. My mom made a great choice for herself and our family.

From the very beginning of trying to find a place for my 91 year old mother, the Gardens and especially Wendy Williams was there for me and my family. They were so attentive and caring and made a very trying experience much easier to deal with. I will be forever grateful for the care and support we received while my mother was there. If I could rate more than five stars I certainly would.
June 2022
My mother and I have nothing but great things to say about this place. From the moment we started talking to Jamie and Wendy about moving mom in there they have just been such an amazing caring staff. I feel so blessed to have found such a great affordable place for my mother. This group cares about your loved one like they were there loved one and that is so hard to find. The atmosphere is so warm and welcoming and I have had to put my mother in other places that did not feel like this. I have also toured many places that did not feel like this. If you have to put your parent in assisted living this is the place that goes the extra mile. They make you feel like your concerns are their concerns. I feel like my mother is safe and with people who care about her well-being like I do and that is peace of mind that you can’t find many places. My mother said their food is good and I have to say that is normally a complaint in most places. They have plenty of activities that my mom picks what she wants to do. They have therapy that has just started working with my mother and they seem to be great too! If you are looking for a place where your parent feels like they are at home then call them! They say actions speak louder than words I can tell you what they say they do. I’m so impressed by this group and hope my mom never has to leave her new home! I also want to add my mother is happy! That says a lot

We had to make the difficult decision to find memory care for my mother in law in October 2021, during a pandemic. Wendy and her staff were very helpful. The staff in Bridge to Rediscovery (the memory care unit) were wonderful, very caring and helpful. They truly care about all their residents. Some even came to the hospital when she was in the ER, that's how much they care. Every one of the staff came by her room the day she passed away to check on us and speak with her. They truly are special people and we are very grateful for everything they did for mom.

Before making our decision, dad and I toured several assisted living facilities. The Gardens seemed transparent in their policies and more interested in a good fit for my dad than in sales. For us a good fit included his ability to stay there if/when he needs changed. He moved in a few weeks later, and I have been so pleased with his care, their communication, and their follow up. They have helped him integrate into the community (even though he is not much of a joiner). The staff at The Gardens has responded in a timely manner to any/all my calls and questions, and when the nursing staff determined he he should go to the ER and likely be admitted to the hospital, they quickly arranged all the paperwork and an ambulance, and kept in communication as well. The rooms are sunny and clean, the staff all know dad's name and joke with him (while doing their jobs well). The food is good and there are numerous activities for those who wish to participate. The Gardens also has an on-site nurse practitioner and therapists, should the resident care to use them.

"Gardens of Va Beach is Best-In-Class for Senior Care." My mother (mid 80's) and I recently decided that living alone had become somewhat overwhelming and a bit too risky, so after research and a few visits, we decided to move her to the Gardens. It is clearly one of the best decisions we've made in our lives. The facility is well appointed for comfort / luxury and very well maintained with competent on-site facilities management. The well trained nursing and support staff is 100% authentic and genuinely attentive to my mother's every need, which begins with making her feel welcomed and at home. The apartments floor plans are spacious and accommodating to senior needs without looking like a hospital or nursing home. The on-site dining (restaurant) is amazing and offers attentive servers, a flavorful variety of menu options, and socialization for seniors. Activities galore have kept my mother engaged daily. Best of all, the Gardens offers transitional care so as my mother continues to age gracefully, she will be well cared for in a familiar environment. I highly recommend the Gardens for your loved one. It's well worth it.

I recently helped arrange for my brother to move here. So far I am very impressed with the willingness of the staff to make his life here a very positive experience.
February 2019
I came to The Gardens for a tour for my Dad. We were told he could not stay at home anymore at the age of 91. I was so impressed with the people and the community at The Gardens. The residents were just moving around like little bees so in tune with everything that was going on. It was such a blessing to watch, because my Dad was living alone and was always not happy. Everyone I came in contact with was happy, from staff to residents. I can't say enough about Barbara Boeninger. She was always there for me, to listen,to give support or advice. I was a basket case, this was a very hard decision to make. Thank you Barbara. You and Lisa are the best. My Dad is now a resident at The Gardens (about 3 weeks now), he loves the food, the people and he is so happy. This has been the best decision I have made for my Dad. Vickie Richardson

My parents paid the $1,500 deposit in December. The room they had chosen was under renovation and would not be ready for about 10 days. During this time, my father fell and suffered multiple injuries. A repeat assessment was performed by the admissions nurse and my family was informed that he was no longer a candidate for admission as he could not walk. I spoke with the administrator and requested a refund of the deposit. The Gardens declined to refund the $1,500 deposit and also charged rent for a partial month. My parents never set foot in the room. I was very disappointed in how this situation was handled and do not recommend this facility.

Well let me just say for all you folks that have the Task or putting your parents or family Members in a Assistant Living. The last few months have been a fantastic transition time for my father, much better than we ever could have anticipated. Barbara made that easy and has been a great point person.. The entire staff has been warm and kind to my father, and they have been very responsive whenever we have had questions. I am very grateful.

Moving a parent into assisted living can be a stressful life event, particularly if you are having to make that decision if they are not cognitively able to do so. Additional stress is being out of state and not being able to stop by, say hi and to check in on them to ensure they are happy and safe. As stressful as this transition in life may be, Barbara and all of the staff at the Gardens have made this as easy and seamless of a process as possible. They have all been understanding of our mother’s needs, as well as our own. There are 5 of us daughters, and all of us collectively and unamamously agreed the Gardens was the best place for our Mom. She, as well as all of us, immediately felt welcomed and at home here when moving our mom here last month. It provides me great comfort in knowing she is happy, engaged in activities, and the multi-disciplinary team is so kind and compassionate. Just as a parent would want the best care for their child, we want the same for our parents. The Gardens has met this level of expectation we were looking for and more.
January 2019
We moved my mother into The Gardens in Dec. We visited different places looking for the right fit for our mother. Several neighbors highly recommend The Gardens. I met with Barbara and she was so understanding and took the time to discuss things with me and give me a tour. I felt so good when I left there. We are so happy with the Gardens. My mother has been so happy and now gets involved in activities daily and seems to be thriving compared to being at home. Everyone is so friendly. She has not asked about home at all. The Gardens has become her home and she has adjusted well, thanks to the wonderful staff. The staff treats the residents with so much love like family. Thank you to all the wonderful staff at The Gardens. I can sleep well at nights knowing she is being taken care of. Thanks again! Kathi Culbreth

I was very impressed with the Garden's facility and Lisa was a very helpful hostess! I visited several facilities and this was my number one pick for quality and cost.

My mom moved into The Gardens two weeks ago. Overall, her transition has been pretty smooth and trouble free. The staff at the Gardens has been very accommodating and helpful. I am happy that my mom is being cared for and is in a safe environment.

I can't say enough about the staff and facility. Everyone was so warm and welcoming during our visits. Barbara truly understands the issues we faced with our Dad and was so patient during the whole process. I highly recommend The Gardens to anyone in need of a safe, warm and friendly environment for a loved one. Janet R.

Upon learning our mom would need to be placed in assisted living I started educating myself. Six places were suggested and I visited 4. It is a very stressful time with alot of pressure choosing the right fit for your loved one. Funny how you visit one place and you know if it is yes or no. I had a yes in my mind "before" visiting the Gardens, but I wanted to give each place an objective view. After visiting The Gardens I called my brother and said I felt I had found the place, but did not want to influence him. Barbara goes above and beyond your expectations. She was very interested in our mom's needs and listened to our concerns. I took my father for a visit and he thoroughly enjoyed himself. Barbara again spent a great deal of time with us listening to my dad and his concerns. We hope after being in the community visiting Mom, Dad will realize a good fit for him too. The nursing director is a new sheriff in town and also goes out of her way to make the medical part of transition smooth. Mom moves in this week and I expect it to be difficult, but I feel that we have all worked together for all to make this successful. I thank all at the Gardens...front desk, housekeeping, nursing, and especially Barbara for helping to make this difficult time easier. I would highly recommend taking a look at the Gardens!
March 2018
We've had great experience with Barbara B! When we wanted to move our aunt into The Gardens over the holidays, Barbara went above and beyond the call of duty to make the timing work and help our aunt feel more comfortable. And since then, Barbara has been there to answer questions, handle issues, and help our aunt feel at home in her new place. Thanks so much!
March 2018
I searched and looked at so many facilities while trying to find the perfect place for my father. This is it!! The rooms are spacious and updated. The staff is phenomenal. I can't say enough, from Barbara's incredible staffing, to the round the clock attentive care my father receives here. My father is happy and engaged, and my daily stress over his care is finally relieved. The ladies and gentlemen that assist my father keep me in the loop with calls on his progress and stopping me in the halls to talk and see if there is anything we need. I feel like part of the family here. Our elder parents can be challenging at times, but everyone at The Gardens rises to those challenges. Thank you for all you do for my father, me and my family.
February 2018
My mom needed assisted living in a hurry due to certain circumstances. This was the first and only place we looked at. When I called on Friday to inquire about the housing, Barbara was instantly a huge help. She graciously did everything to go above and beyond to make the process as easy as possible. And my situation with my mother was challenging to say the least. I met with Barbara on Friday afternoon so she could learn about my mom and her needs. She answered all my concerns and gave me a very thorough tour. I honesty don't know how she was able to get anything else done between the time she spent in person with me and the numerous phone calls throughout the entire weekend. And guess where I'm writing this review from? It's Monday night and I'm in my mom's apartment at the Gardens of Virginia Beach. From Rose at the front desk, to Carolyn the LPN, to Bob the chef, we were all greeted with such open arms and made the transition feel seamless. When I leave tonight to go home, I know I made the right decision and I can sleep knowing my mom's going to be ok.

Assisted Living Center uses the term "assisted living" or "personal care" to inform users that a community provides assistance with some Activities of Daily Living (ADL's). It may not meet your state's legal definition required for that level of care.
