Having to make a decision to move my husband from home to Memory Care was one that I had planned since his diagnosis in 2021. I evaluated over 10 locations in Charlottesville and Smith Mountain Lake to make a decision to come to Rosewood Hollymead. I had been working with another Memory Care Center over the last two years for extended stays while traveling for work. When it came to making a decision to move in, the process was harder than it needed to be because of staff turnover so I moved on and landed at Rosewood Hollymead and they had a vacancy in Memory Care. (I had been on a waiting list for about 6 months) The Memory Care Director, Amber Sholtz, just joined the team and has been doing a great job in setting up monthly meetings and recently rolling out a week of Memory Care focused events. She has been especially good for me through emails and phone calls about my husband's transition. We have worked together to keep him safe and the staff safe. He also had a wound on his foot because of wearing someone's shoes, and the traveling nurse was also great to work with as a team to support the healing of his wound. I go (visit) Rosewood 5 days out of 7 and have family that also visit. The staff call my husband by name and they also give me an update on how things are going. They will ask for my help, when it is necessary, and I try to offer my help as well. No one knows Jeff better than his family and it is important as his behavior changes to seek their help and guidance and support the community of residents. I have been happy with how things have been going since Jeff was admitted back in March. I also know we have an engaged family/friends and I believe the staff are able to help keep Jeff safe and happy as Frontotemporal Dementia continues to take from him.

My mother spent her last year at Rosewood Hollymead in memory care. There are many assisted and memory care facilities around Charlottesville, Rosewood Hollymead does things right. The staff takes the time to decorate for every season and holiday so the residents always feel connected to the outside world. The concierge/front desk staff is welcoming to everyone and I often saw them engaging with residents. Rosewood welcomes family involvement and will embrace you as part of the Rosewood family. Both Charlottesville Rosewood locations (Greenbrier and Hollymead) are family owned, and it shows. I visited often and at differing times and was always impressed with the friendliness and compassion of the employees. Management was visible and knew each resident and their families. My mother’s caregivers quickly learned her personality and could make her smile even on bad days. The memory care staff follows a strict schedule that ensures the resident is clean and cared for. My mother’s room was always clean and trash removed. The Med Techs also knew the residents’ preferences and abilities regarding medications. Resident personalities in memory care vary greatly, I was impressed with how the staff engaged with individual residents, meeting them where they were in their dementia journey.

No one wants to have to put a loved one in a home but due to a degenerative disease we couldn’t care for him at home. When he entered Rosewood at Hollymead he required the least amount of services and over the three years he was there his needs grew to the highest levels of help. In every stage we felt that he was treated with dignity and respect and he was well cared for. Staff was always warm and friendly and truly seemed to care. There were fun activities for the residents and the public areas were always decorated for every holiday. My family is so very appreciative that they had a spot for our mother when she needed extra care. The staff is so caring. Posting her name on the welcome board was a very nice touch and made her feel at home right away. Our mother always loves how wonderfully the facility is decorated especially during the holidays. There are always so many activities to pick from. The nursing staff and physical therapy staff provide excellent care. She appreciates the friendships she's developed since being there and is especially impressed with the friendliness and care from the cafeteria staff and their willingness to accommodate her special diet needs. We moved Mom to RoseWood in June after I could no longer care for her needs. Due to Covid, we were not allowed to move her in, so dear Aly (the Director of Sales and Marketing) and the staff hung Mom’s photos, put away her clothes, got her all settled in and then sent me a video of Mom in her new room. I appreciated how Aly kept in touch with me as to how Mom was doing. Our family enjoyed patio visits, which gave us a chance to connect, while still keeping the residents safe. We especially appreciated the loving care given by Rebecca, whom Mom loved. Everyone at RoseWood was so welcoming, dedicated and caring, which made it truly a wonderful experience for all of us.

The Innovations staff at Rosewood has been wonderful during this pandemic!! They have been very accommodating on setting up the patio visits with my dad. In the beginning of the pandemic we were only allowed to visit my dad through his window. It was hard for my dad to understand why I was standing outside his window and not inside with him, so the staff was kind enough to be with him during our visits and we were allowed to facetime him using one of the staff phones. I was so grateful! I have currently been visiting dad outside in the Innovations courtyard. This has made it easier to visit him and he can at least see me in person and not through a window. The Innovations staff has been very helpful through this difficult time by taking such good care of my dad, keeping me posted and occasionally sending me pictures of him, and being so flexible with my visits. I am grateful for each and every staff member at Rosewood but especially for those in Innovations since they are my dad's primary care givers. Thank you Innovations!! Rosewood Village has managed to accomplish something that other, similar facilities have not (in Charlottesville and elsewhere in the country). In the almost six months since it closed its doors to keep residents safe, not a single resident or staff member has contracted Covid. Considering that staff members lead lives outside of work, it speaks to their dedication that they have done what it takes to avoid exposing themselves to the virus and, thereby, infecting their charges. Moreover, the administration and staff have made it possible for family members to keep in touch through video calls and, later, patio visits (with precautions in place). During this stressful time, the staff remain courteous, professional, and dedicated. I'd be willing to bet that they go above and beyond, although I'm not able to witness that behavior. My mother is fine and appears to be thriving despite being unable to go out in the world as she had been before the onset of the pandemic. Many thanks to everyone who has kept my mother safe and happy.

One of the things that is especially nice about RoseWood is its cleanliness. It never has a nursing home odor. I think most of the staff is extremely helpful, nice, and kind to the residents. I am very pleased with this facility, although I do believe there could be improvements made to the dining room. House keeping is quite nice. I have Brian, who cleans my room and he is the best person in the world! He is an excellent cleaner and just a nice person.

My father recently passed away after a long illness, and the last 12 months of his life spent at the Rosewood Hollymead location. His health deteriorated significantly during his last 4-6 months. Many assisted living facilities may have balked at his level of care and required a move to skilled nursing but Rosewood never considered it - always wanting to be sure they could let him stay where he wanted, and that they could provide loving and dignified care to someone they had grown to love as well. When it unfortunately came time for my Dad to pass away, the entire leadership team at Rosewood took extra time to ensure my Dad was comfortable, felt loved and that all of us sitting by his bedside felt supported. My mother recently moved into Rosewood as well, and they are providing her the same level of excellent care. I have never doubted this was the right place for her in light of their care of my Dad. This is a wonderful facility focused on providing loving and dignified care for residents. The entire staff works hard to accommodate residents needs, and works with family to ensure everyone feels informed and supported whether a care plans needs adjusting or not. Echoing a reviewers comments below, Christine is a fantastic Executive Director! If you have a loved one that is in need of assisted living care and you want to be assured they will be well taken care of, I implore you to consider Rosewood at Hollymead.

In early 2013, it became clear that my mother-in-law required more assistance with managing her daily life. The first time that she and I visited Rosewood Village at Hollymead and met with Ashley, we knew that it was the place for her. Ashley was warm and understanding and immediately put my mother-in-law at ease. When we explained that she wanted to keep her little Chihuahua, Ashley worked with us to make that possible. The staff completely embraced her and went to extra lengths to ease her transition from living in her own home to assisted living. When we moved her to Rosewood, my husband, a physician, and I (a NP) fully expected that my mother-in-law would experience excellent and competent care from the staff. What we did not expect was the gentleness and loving kindness that she was shown by EVERY member of the staff. She even had a special friend in Brian, who cleaned her room for her. Nancy, at the front desk, was always impressive to us-all I ever had to say was my first name and she immediately knew who I was and was available to help me navigate any issue that arose. Over these past few years, the nursing staff, in particular, Carol, Christina, Robert, Brenda, Jenny and Lisa expertly managed her care every step along the way as her health declined. We have been so impressed by and grateful to the nursing and CNA staff who were so kind and solicitous, showing tenderness to her always and particularly during her last days. It meant so much on those last days to see the various members come in and gently hold her hand, take such care with changing her or lovingly stroke her forehead as they administered the medication that would ease her pain. We could not have found a better place for our wonderful matriarch to spend her last years. Thank you to all of the Rosewood staff!
