We moved my 98 year old mom into Sunrise in March. My mom has always been very sociable and was involved with many activities within her old neighborhood. I was quite concerned she would lose this aspect of her life when she moved to Sunrise. The activities coordinator Brandi, has done amazing job including her in activities. She has even arranged for one of mom’s groups of friends to come play cards at Sunrise. Layla has also been a huge influence with Moms positive transition to assisted living.

Generally, I am very pleased with my life at Pinehurst. Because I don't need much help, I seldom "push my button". I enjoy the planned activities, and even lead have some, including poker and MoMa. The facility is very homelike and comfortable. I encounter problems, however, when I need help. I feel that the overall community response to minor medical issues could be improved. I recently had a problem with a medication change and reached out to Bloom for help. I asked to talk with someone qualified to discuss my pain problem and help me resolve it. It is now four painful and sleepless days later and I am still waiting. I feel very strongly that I need an advocate who can help me, so I don't feel I am fighting the "system".

Just wanted to take a minute to acknowledge the transformation in my mom since she came to Sunrise at Pinehurst. She had become very isolated in the family home. After an accident we brought her to Sunrise at Pinehurst as the family home no longer could meet her needs. At first she was unhappy about the change, but the Sunrise staff was very caring and patient. The activities team began to coax her to join activities, which she was a bit reluctant to join. Now, when I call she is always on her way to art or cards even bowling. She talks about what they did today and how her picture was on the wall. It is amazing the transformation in her demeanor and attitude. Thanks to the activities director and staff she seems to be happier than she has been in years. What started as heartbreak has turned into a blessing. Thanks to the dedicated work of the staff members.

Thank you to everyone at Sunrise who took care of my father when he stayed there in 2024. Although we had some initial challenges with our own expectations, my father was able to settle in and he was given very great care (especially by the Care Manager, Victoria). After his death, we found out that he had Long Term Care Insurance. Both Victoria and Sabrina (office manager) were able to get all the documents to the insurance company so that some of his time at Sunrise could be reimbursed. 5 Stars for the Staff at Sunrise!! I live across the country from Colorado, so it was naturally disconcerting to have a loved one placed in a memory care facility so far away. We had a couple of false starts when it came to placement in the Denver area, but we hit the jackpot when we found Sunrise. I have never been anything but impressed with the facility. When visiting, (always unannounced) our loved one was always well dressed, well groomed and was very content with his surroundings. The staff was never anything but friendly, kind, and compassionate. And most important for us, from hundreds of miles away, communication with Sunrise was superb. Contacting our loved one was always quick and easy, and we always received a call if the staff had any concerns. Sunrise is a real gem.

UPDATE: The staff seemed to be more friendly as time went on. The activities director and the director were very good at communicating in my Uncle's later time there. They threw a party for his 100th birthday. There were several employees who seemed very sad when he died. I didn't realized they cared about him so much. Several of them came to his funeral, which I thought was very kind. I have changed my rating to 4 instead of 2 stars. ______________________________ Expensive compared to other places nearby. Family member here for just over two years. Some problems during the first six months or so, that have gotten better. (For example: Bed wasn't being made and room wasn't cleaned with the schedule we were told they were.) Clothes still go missing. Also, I have been extremely disappointed that they don't honor veterans. All veterans deserve recognition but I feel like a WWII vet is a big deal. They are dying off fast. There's only a short amount of time to honor them WHILE THEY'RE STILL ALIVE or still alert enough to appreciate it. The place he lived previously made a big deal for the veterans. It was very special for him. Maybe this bothers me because he has no children, and very limited family. I just think WWII vets are a big deal and we should make Veterans Day a big deal for them.

This place is fabulous. We had to find a safe place for parents as it was not safe for them to be at home anymore. Realizing Mom would need memory care, and it was important to dad for them to stay together, we chose Sunrise in 2023. The staff are all very, very caring and communicated with us often. They kept us informed on things they were seeing and anything we needed to bring in. They handled all the DR’s and medications. Addressed any questions we had in a timely manner. We would like to specifically thank Sam, Cindy, Angela, Rochelle, Victoria, Viola, Rose, Mariah, Maggie, Naomi and all the staff in Memory care. Our family had the pleasure of working with Karen Summers, a placement specialist at Aging at 5280 in Denver. We toured several facilities within a specific geographic area and ultimately let our mother choose where she would like to live. Her absolute first pick was Sunrise at Pinehurst, attracted by its comfortable and friendly atmosphere. From the start, Mom quickly made new friends and thoroughly enjoyed mealtimes as social events once again. She found a group of friends who loved playing card games, establishing a delightful routine of daily stimulation and fun. Whenever we called to check in with her, she was often too busy to talk”something that brought us immense joy! Sadly, Mom was only able to enjoy Sunrise for four months before passing. During her last days, the staff at Sunrise and Elevation Hospice were invaluable, providing safety, comfort, and keeping our family well-informed. On her final day, we all were by her side. After Mom passed, a caregiver named Desiree prayed over her and sang the most beautiful song, a moment we still talk about. To everyone at Sunrise who supported our Mom in her most vulnerable days, we extend our heartfelt thanks: Angela, Sandy, Kate, Teddy, Desiree, Michelle, Emily, Tori, Riley, Sam, and all those who played a part”you know who you are!

I had a LOT of misgivings about putting Mom in assisted living this time. I've been her caregiver for the past three years. She came to me from another assisted living, and we didn't want her there because of COVID. I drive by Sunrise at Pinehurst ALL the time. I live 5 minutes away. Mom just had a stroke and fractured her ankle and toes. I knew I could no longer care for her properly. So I called Sunrise at Pinehurst. Within a few hours, I was getting a tour. The Executive Director and Sales Director spent over an hour with me, answering all my questions and really understanding what I needed. Mom's care has been SUPERB. Mom's room is great. The food is top notch, by the way, and that's a big deal for mom who loves to eat (even though she weighs less than 100 lbs). She's making new friends, and she's happy. She tells the nurses and caregivers that she's very glad to be there. And it's not breaking the bank. Thank you for that--and everything--Sunrise at Pinehurst. I don't ever have to worry that Mom is getting the BEST of care, and that is priceless.

As you know, the thought of placing a parent in assisted care is extremely stressful. Especially when the parent is against the idea. You have questions like..."Where do we go?", Who do we trust?", "Will they be cared for?". These questions and more were questions that caused us a lot of anxiety, fear and even some guilt. Fortunately, we had friends who spoke highly of Sunrise, because of their experience. Still to some degree we wanted to see for ourselves, that is until we sat down with the director, Samantha. Her kindness, empathy, understanding and wisdom let us know that her and her team at Sunrise would take care of Dad in the way we would take care of him. And it's so true. The team at Sunrise at Pinehurst took care of Dad and our family. The team made the lives of our family manageable at an incredibly stressful time. Even Dad knew he was in not good, but GREAT hands. The care on the part of all staff was just what the doctor ordered, to allow our family to rest easy at night. Knowing our loved one was himself being loved and treated with the attention he deserved was comforting. We've written some pretty complimentary words and they are all true. Our family knows, the caring, gentle, patient support that exists at Pinehurst is an attitude. It comes from the top! For us Samantha is the best director that any family could wish to have. When you need a comfortable place for your elderly loved one, THIS IS IT!!! I've been a nurse for 30 yrs and teach for a Denver nursing college. I've been bringing my Nursing Students to this community for almost a year. The staff are amazing and truly care for this population. The healthcare workers and their nursing staff go above and beyond for this community. They have an incredible chef and kitchen staff who are really invested in the residents' nutritional needs. The food is made to order in a beautiful dining room and made from scratch, it's delicious!! The whole building has been remodeled and beautiful to fit the residents' lifestyles. There are many scheduled activities to choose from daily!! Did I mention the food is delicious..lol The Director of this community is fun, energetic, and dedicated to her staff. I wouldn't hesitate to place a loved one here knowing all their needs would be met.

UPDATE 2020! It’s now been two years since my Mom has been at SUNRISE at Pinehurst, 5 STARS continues from our family!! She’s always been in the memory care neighborhood. We’re in the middle of the worst Pandemic since 1918 - everyone at Sunrise is NEGATIVE and is tested on going. They were one of the first facilities to lock down and clean, masks were required before it was popular. Thank you, for keeping my Mom safe!! The Director, staff, medical, supervisors, caregivers, activities folks, chefs, drivers are with NO hesitation, the best one could ask for. Every effort you put forth, is so appreciated! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! There are HEROS working here, Old post... We moved my Mom into the memory area at Sunrise Pinehurst about 8 months ago. I have to share, this place exceeded our expectations. Everyone, from the caregivers, management, directors and nursing staff are incredible . This is a professionally run place, it shows! I stop in about every few days, my mom is clean, happy, always doing some activity - in fact, shes dramatically improved in all areas since moving in. I cannot say enough good things about this place and the folks working there. They are good at what they do, and they enjoy it - thus, our mother benefits. Love y’all! Thank you, Sunrise!

Memory Care was far better care than the Assisted Living part of Sunrise at Pinehurst. Most of the staff was kind and loving and near the end became like family to my parents.

The assisted living portion of Pinehurst was outstanding! Our mother, who has Alzheimer's, was there 2 years and we never had a complaint. The staff was exemplary, activities were wonderful, apartments were beautiful - basically everything we wanted for mom. When the Alzheimer's worsened, she got to the point of needing to move to the memory care unit. Sadly it became a whole different story. When my brother and I would visit once a week or more her room was consistently less than clean and smelled bad, she had twice been sleeping in her bed for two days or more with no linens on it, and her personal appearance began to deteriorate as in wearing clothing totally inappropriate for the weather or pajamas under her clothing. Mom broke off one of her front teeth down to the root and we were never informed, discovering it on one of our visits. When questioned, none of the staff was even aware of it much less had any idea of when it happened. She had incontinence issues in part due to her medications and had begun throwing her underwear away. We were never informed of this and on three occasions we discovered that she had none at all so was going without undergarments. Activities on the memory care unit were sporadic to non-existent and residents were usually either sitting and staring or wandering aimlessly around the unit. Patients routinely wandered In and out of other's rooms sleeping In their beds and taking things from their rooms. Staff was not engaged enough with the patients to redirect the behaviors. In sum, it became evident that the unit was often short staffed, staff appears poorly trained for this population of seniors, staff did not engage in any meaningful manner with the patients, which resulted in a level of care that I would characterize as benign neglect. The staff appears to have little understanding of how to head off the aggressive behaviors that are so common in Alzheimer's/dementia patients which unfortunately leads to injuries of the patients. Multiple times we requested a review of mom's medications as her symptoms got worse. It took several requests to get them to even do the review. The staff doctor admitted that one of her Alzheimer's meds was no longer of benefit and said it would be removed from her regimen. In six months it was never removed or titrated down. We found out later from another doctor that this medication can actually cause aggression. More medications were added instead with no positive effect. The end result was that we were given 30 days to get her out of Pinehurst. In sum, the promise of aging in place should be very carefully considered at Pinehurst until a total revamping is done of their memory care unit to include much better training in this population of seniors, review of the quality of the staff, responsiveness of medical personnel, and supervisors that are aware of negative issues in this unit and are willing to take steps to correct them.

I think the parking situation is getting fixed. I have to say, however, that when it comes to rating senior care facilities, parking is pretty far down on my list. What matters to me is the competency and heart of the staff. Having moved my mom from Wind Crest/Erickson and Brookdale, both of which had serious management problems and varying levels of caregiver competency, I was blown away by the staff at Pinehurst at Sunrise. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.
