Merrill Gardens honored my mother with an amazing 100th birthday party recently. Friends and family attended the afternoon party with live music, 50's themed decorations and plenty of tasty food including root beer floats ! Fun was had by all while singing to some "oldies" tunes with the band. The staff, lead by Carina's creativity and experience made it a fun and memorable party for all.

After the death of my mother, who resided at Merrill Gardens in Rolling Hills Estates, California for the past five years, I feel compelled to recognize the staff for their excellent work in providing service to her and to the family. The facility is great, the available activities are many and the community itself is welcoming. The initial four years of her residence was great, but I was especially impressed by the Care team and Medroom staff over the past 12 months of hospice. There are too many staff members to recognize in total, but I must call out the people I got to know in my almost daily visits. Care staff and Medroom members Jasmin, Brooklyn, Sebastian, Gabriella, Emily, Jennifer, Menna, Rika, Kira, and Sofia all did a difficult job with professionalism, a positive attitude and a smile for my mother. Eric at the front desk was the person she always went to for anything she needed, and he always delivered. Another favorite of hers was Mohammed "Fassy" Jayah in the dinning room - he knew her food preferences and always made sure she was happy whenever she was there. Special personal thanks to Ryan and Edwin in Maintenance - they were always available to help if I need help in moving furniture etc. in or out of my mother's apartment. And finally, these individuals (and others I must apologize to if I missed anyone) operate at the direction of the senior management staff of Tracy Mallaret, Jenna Moreno and Lauren Amaya to deliver a top-notch experience for residents and family. In spite of the circumstances that put her there, my mother's time at Merrill Gardens was a happy one due to a staff that genuinely cares for their residents.

I scheduled a last-minute, evening visit to this facility, and Tracey was extremely accommodating. I had asked her the day before if an evening visit was possible as I work during the day, and she made arrangements with her family so she could stay late to do the tour. When I arrived, she was welcoming and has such a positive energy. She showed me the entire facility, including a couple of available room options. She also answered all of my questions candidly, which I truly appreciate. She also brought in Lauren, the Resident Care Director, to provide a preliminary care estimate. Both were very patient and extremely kind, listening closely to my descriptions of my dad's care needs and preferences. I got a definite sense that I could trust Lauren to be accountable for my dad's physical well being based on her descriptions of protocols for the residents' care. The facility is lovely and spotless and is located in a beautiful, tree-lined area of Rolling Hills Estates. It has an upscale vibe, and the residents I observed appeared very happy to be there. It is definitely well worth checking out for your loved one!

After searching multiple senior living options, Merrill Gardens was the one! It is such a beautiful, bright and cheerful community and was the right place for my mom. The staff are second to none, everyone is so friendly, informative and helpful from the front desk, activities director, med techs, restaurant staff to the management team. Haley and Tracey in particular made our transition and move-in experience seamless. We are very grateful! It is such a pleasant place for family to visit as well. Mom is very happy in her new home. She moved in three months ago and has made many friends. She is enjoying the meals at the restaurant, the social hours, all the activities from Bingo to painting to yoga and many more. The MG residents have been one of the loveliest surprises getting to know many new friends and working on my social chops at 88, I’m so grateful ! Meals with the girls or if preferred alone in the elegant dining room has become a highlight. The activities are thoughtfully designed to engage independent, discerning residents who love to stay in shape mentally & physically, or just to have fun. Don’t forget to check out the movie theater Very up-to-date shows & movies, with popcorn and all!! As my mom Margie was being discharged from Torrance Memorial Hospital we were concerned that bringing her home wouldn’t support her no stairs requirement. Thank Goodness the Merrill Gardens Community relations director Haley Back was available to hear our story. My dad is on his second week at Merrill Gardens, and he/we could not be happier. Haley Back has basically felt like my best friend for the better part of a year, and has taken care of us and my dad like we are her own family. We've been looking for a place for my folks. The past month or 2, we've visited quite a few facilities in the South Bay, but not with much luck... but most recently visited Merrill Gardens in Rolling Hills, My folks are both in their mid-eighties and moving from a big home. As we toured the property we noticed how it was very homey and welcoming. It was very clean and tidy. All the staff we interacted with were very friendly. This is important, as this is where they will be living life and interfacing and with the staff on a daily basis. After my mom spoke with a couple of the residents my folks really felt very comfortable there. We have decided to move forward with Merrill Gardens. Also we did our research and everything checked out, the reviews are all good and positive and the other residents had great things to say.

Pets are welcome and delightful to share. The natural brightness and excellent lighting is great in both common areas and rooms, many with balconies. I visited for the second time earlier this week, this time bringing others from my family. We appreciated the chance to see what assisted living means in the present day, which is much different from what it was 40 years ago. Merrill Gardens looks like a plush hotel, not so much like a facility. We were impressed by the amenities and programmed activities. The location is fantastic, so close to the public library and the Peninsula Senior Center. What was most apparent was the community of residents and how friendly they are. Jennifer introduced several of them to us, and they were all super friendly and welcoming. We even visited one resident who opened up his two-bedroom apartment for us to see, and we struck up a great conversation. Jennifer was attentive to our needs, making sure to answer all our questions and putting us first, even among a busy day.

We moved my sweet and smart little mom from Texas to Merrill Gardens in Rolling Hills earlier this year. This was a hard move because she was almost 89 and had lived in Texas all of her life. I was more scared than she was. But from the very first night (and I spent the night with her) the caregiver team led by LVN Yvette Lem attended to my Mom with exquisite care and kindness. Yvette, Casey, Lily, Vhan, and Joy along with others knew exactly what to do without being asked. Due to hard work upfront everything my Mom needed was in place. Also Yvette Lem knew the right people to call and when. She got me in touch with insurance people and when needed a good hospice; and has been a constant reassuring presence during this journey. I would have been lost this last few months without her presence and guidance. I observed her often working with my Mom one on one and know that Yvette is a natural nurse and truly cares for people. Merrill Gardens is a nice facility but without people like Yvette, Casey, Lily, Vhan and Joy it is just a building. People make it a home and a place where you can trust your parents will be cared for.

Having worked with many senior living facilities, I can confidently say this team is the most compassionate. Just in the process of figuring out where to put mom I visited MG after seeing two other assisted living/memory care centers and was most impressed!! I ended up bringing dad back the next day so he can see what my excitement was all about. I really can’t say enough good things about what I saw. The residents themselves were quick to express their gratitude and contentment with their home here at Merrill Gardens. I found every aspect of the place to be bright (with light) and cheeriness! Residents were playing games together at commons tables, there is tasty looking food available 24/7, the dining area was clean and well staffed, every area I toured was fresh smelling and perfectly lovely. There’s a private dining room for families to eat in with their loved ones. The building is built really well with luxury and space in mind. Hallways remind me of luxurious cruise ships, as do the common areas. The outdoor areas/gardens for residents to plant things in are thoughtful and amazing, as are the amenities provided for residents. Programming was vast and programming staff seemed to connect with residents and visitors in a jovial and engaging way. I can’t tell you how refreshing and delightful Jennifer Counihan, the Community Relations Director was, especially after dealing with the past few depressing weeks we’ve had with mom’s health issues and the looming reality that we’re going to need a higher level of care. Memory Care is not usually a place where anyone envisions their loved ones, but here, it normalizes the activities that are meant to stimulate cognitive activity. The residents are treated with positive interactions and encouragement that could make anyone feel the love, care and concern that MG has for their loved ones. I observed the gentleness and friendliness of all the staff, and It’s nice to know a place like this exists nearby. I spoke with people who had come from all over the country to be placed here. I get it. If mom doesn’t get placed here, I’m going to put myself here!

I have been living at Merrill Gardens for the past four years and it was the wisest decision I have ever made. Previously, I lived at home alone and as I got older I realized that I should consider moving into a community that offered security, social comeraderie, exercise classes, transportation to doctors and just as important, there is no need to go grocery shopping as all meals are included. I don’t need to do housework and with all these amenities, it has allowed me to be more independent and not rely on family or friends any longer for assistance but enjoy this new chapter of my life.

I have been a resident of Merrill Gardens Rolling Hills Estates since October of 2020. I like very much the location with shopping nearby and walking routes around the facility. The Palos Verdes main library branch is right next door as well as the Palos Verdes Senior Center. The facility is well maintained. The environment is kept clean and cheerful. There are weekly Happy Hours with entertainment, food and drinks. This helps to keep spirits high. The variety of activities should interest many residents who can join in. Some activities are led by the Activity Staff. Others are led by the residents themselves who shar a common interest. There are exercise classes in the Wellness Room (gym). Many are video-based sessions; some are led by in-person instructors. For major Holidays, including Mother's Day and Father's Day, there are special brunch celebrations for residents and invited guests. There are also smaller but important celebrations for Lunar New Year, Cinco de Mayo, and Hannukah. I have found the staff to be helpful and friendly. I am comfortable living here.

The amenities at MG are top notch - excellent dining area, common areas, outdoor patio and garden, exercise facility and more. Jennifer’s description of a cruise ship on land is spot on. Our mother will be moving in this month and we feel fortunate to have secured a unit in this beautiful and welcoming community.

From the moment we toured Merrill Gardens in Rolling Hills Estates, we knew it was the perfect place for my mother. Thanks to Jennifer, the Community Relations Director, whose effervescent personality and affection for the residents made a lasting impression. Tracy, the General Manager, and Yvette, the Resident Care Director, lead with professionalism and dedication, creating a supportive environment. A special Thank You to the efficient and warm med tech team”Casey, Joy, Carmela, and Van”who attend to my mother three times a day, making her feel well-cared for and valued. Since moving into her gorgeous view apartment, my mother has truly thrived. She no longer feels lonely or worries about having nothing good to eat, thanks to the fine menu choices offered. The location is perfect. Adjacent to the Peninsula Library, the area is safe, and the newer building is immaculate. Any issue is taken up immediately and with good results. For the first time in years, I feel confident that my mother’s needs are taken care of. Thanks to the entire team at Merrill Gardens for their exceptional care and attention!

On Wednesday, I and my husband, Ronnie, and my 88 year old mother-in-law, Barbara, enjoyed a fantastic, fun day at Merrill Gardens as invited guests of Jennifer Counihan, Community Relations Director. Jennifer gave us a wonderful, in-depth tour of the gorgeous facilities, including the group areas, lush patio spaces, salon, gyms, dining facilities and more. We were able to see the two types of residences, including the lovely apartment units, and well-designed memory care section rooms. We were VERY impressed with the overall quality of construction, the cleanliness of the entire property, the kindness, hospitality and friendliness of Jennifer - and each of the staff we met. Following the tour, we were treated to a wonderful Saint Patrick's Day celebration event, with hosted food and beverage and a very talented singer who performed numerous classic standards, and some traditional Irish folk tunes (which brought tears to our Irish eyes)! We plan to return with "mom" again and to continue our exploration of the opportunity here, should that time ever arise in the near future, for either mom, or us!!! Thank you, Jennifer!!!

Moving my mom into Merrill Gardens has been the best thing for her to live out the next chapter of her life. I knew this was the place the minute I seen the place, met and talked with the staff and residents. Jennifer gave me the full tour and explained everything to me so beautifully, that I signed the agreement immediately and moved my mom later that month. And knowing that we were fortunate enough to acquire the last available unit, I felt like we hit the jackpot. When my mom was living with me, she needed additional care and nursing, but almost immediately after moving, she has gained much of her independence and mobility, and doesn't require any additional care services. She is truly happy and I can tell by her overall appearance and health. The staff there are friendly, helpful and engaging. Thank you Merrill Gardens.
