My dad had to stay at Chandler Hall for a few weeks. The staff there were super helpful and very responsive! They handled everything with love and care. There was so much to juggle and we constantly had to change plans on them but they rolled with every change with a smile and reassurance that everything would get done. My dad’s safety and care was top priority. Chis Donnelly the director was amazing and jumped through hoops for us. All of the nurses were all very compassionate and caring. We really loved Julius and George the nurse’s aide helped him without making him feel incapable. Chris the PT and his team were very patient and actually worked with my dad as opposed to other places we have been where they just walk him down the hall and return in 15 min. We would highly recommend Chandler. If I had one negative it would be that it is not as fancy as some other places but it was very sweet & homey and that made my dad feel at home more than the other 3 local places he had been. Wish I could name more employees but unfortunately their names escape me at the moment.

My grandmother has been on hospice in my parents home with chandler hall. Her nurse was Jess and I can’t express the gratitude my family has for her. She was so compassionate and kind and treated my grandmother and our family so well. You can tell she genuinely cares about not only her patients but their families. She would always go above and beyond for us to make sure everything was taken care of. Lori, was also amazing. She would show up always happy and smiling. Our family will always remember the care and compassionate that was shown to my grandmother at the end of her life and we are so grateful for that.

My mother Angela who was 92 years old, spent the last six months of her life at Chandler Hall, and she passed away on Thursday, November 20. During that time, she was shown such compassion, dignity, and genuine love that my family and I will be forever grateful. There were some extraordinary caretakers who truly went above and beyond. Joanna, her primary aide, cared for my mom with exceptional tenderness”singing with her, staying attentive to her needs, and treating her like family. When Joanna was off, Emma filled in with the same level of care, always making sure my mother looked beautiful, with her hair done and dressed just the way I hoped she would be. Iris, the night aide, was wonderful from the very beginning. She comforted my mom, sang Spanish songs to her, and cared for her throughout the night with such gentleness. The **nurses”Ignasi, Loretta, Katie, and Winston”**were amazing both during the day and in the evening. They were attentive, responsive, and always made us feel that my mom was in good hands. I am also grateful to the administrative staff, including Chris Donnelly, the administrative director, for his kindness, guidance, and constant support throughout this difficult journey. A heartfelt thank-you as well to Christina, the social worker, who was wonderful in helping us navigate every step with compassion and understanding. The rehab staff worked patiently and gently with my mother, showing her great respect and care. The activity staff, including Ralph, Beverly, and Jenna, brought joy and engagement to her days, and the nurse station supervisors”Victoria and Sara during the day, and Victoria and Ana in the evening”were truly wonderful. A special thank-you to Nancy, the hairdresser, who always made sure my mother looked beautiful and felt like herself. There are so many others whose names I wish I could list, because Chandler Hall truly went above and beyond for my mother. I was there almost every day, and my brother visited each evening, so we saw firsthand the level of care, patience, and heart that the staff gave her. Thank you very much from the bottom of our hearts. The Caruso Family.

My mother is a long-term rehab patient at Chandler Hall. The level of care she has received has been exceptional in every way. Her nurse Ignacy is knowledgeable, empathetic and incredibly responsive. Johana, the CNA is amazing. She cares for my mother as if she is her own family. She takes the highest level of care with every part her job-big tasks and small. She has been a life saver in countless ways throughout our stay. She is smart, capable and so very kind. Her other nurse Winston is very competent, cheerful and warm. The social worker on staff, Christina, goes above and beyond for her clients. She is smart, competent and most important so very caring. Navigating the healthcare system is incredibly challenging particularly when you are physically and emotionally exhausted from caring for a sick loved one. Christina helps by making the caretakers feel taken care of. Her office door is always open and she is always warm and willing to help. Best of all she get things done! Finally, I cant say enough about the Therapy team. They have all worked tirelessly to help my mother. Jackie, Jason, Chris, and Christine are hardworking, empathetic and so very encouraging. My mother felt safe and motivated working with them. Shauna, the speech therapist is an angel. The level of rehab she provided to my mother is unparalleled. She took care of my mother like she was her own and our gratitude for her is immense. Overall our experience has been wonderful. Thank you Chandler Hall.

My mother, Gloria, was a resident at Chandler Hall's palliative care unit in Newtown, Pa. for 22 months and loved it. She was mentally sharp and enjoyed being with the other residents, making several close friends. She especially liked playing bingo and the word games, as well as engaging in othe fun activities. The nursing staff and aides were professional and extremely helpful, always attending to her needs. The food in the cafteria was well prepared and tasty, and she especially relished the homemade soups and sandwiches. The entrees were also very good. Unfortunately, she passed away on Christmas Day at 96 from underlying age-related medical conditions. I'm glad that she spent her remaining months at Chandler Hall in an atmosphere of love and caring. I could have not hoped for a better place, and neither could she. She will be greatly missed.

From the start, the entire staff at Chandler Hall was very welcoming. Irene Tchimou, Director of Nursing, was beautifully kind, professional, and reassuring of my safety and their good will. She told me they wanted me to get better and go home as quickly as possible. I spent 3 weeks at Chandler Hall getting there. During that time I encountered an amazing number of caring and committed professionals who spend hours of their daily lives serving a very needy population. My husband and I are the better for having witnessed such dedication. I will start with naming just a few of the selfless Care Aides: Iris (the first one I met, who always made me laugh), Helene, Maria, Danja (whose voice was so calm and kind), Joanna, and Elsie (who reminded me of a friend back home). During the nights, I had the good fortune of being helped by Mystique (who has the voice of an angel), Corrie, and Shamira - all of whom had to help me SO MANY times during those nights. I can never overestimate the gratitude I have for all of the Care Aides during my stay there. And I will forever sing the praise you all are so deserving of. The Rehab Gym was the place I got my daily shot of you can do it. Jackie, who oversees the services in the gym, was so positive and energetic and friendly. She sets such a positive vibe there. The first OT I met the day after I arrived was Manny. He immediately challenged me to get my thoughts together on what I believed I could accomplish at Chandler and thereafter. Christine and Kate got me going on building my strength and self-reliance and self-care. And Sara who generously worked with me on a Sunday. The PTs - Jason and Chris - are amazing - so upbeat, challenging, and reinforcing. Thank you to all of you!! You are all great! The LPNs on each wing were also so kind and responsive: Kate, Typress, Winston, Ade, Jennifer, Ignacio, and Loretta. I loved seeing you each day - and night. Thank you for your kind assistance and responsiveness. The Charge Nurses were also so personable and responsive: Sara, Debra, and Victoria. Thank you so much! Tiffany, the NP, and Christine, the Social Worker, are both so dedicated in their roles and so responsive to the myriad needs of each resident. Thank you for all your kind attention and services. I was still in shock from my fall and overwhelmed by the ramifications of my injury when I arrived at Chandler Hall on Friday evening, Nov. 15. Everyone at Chandler Hall reassured me that they were all behind me as I strove to overcome my pain and temporary incapacities. They were clear in their guidelines as to what they needed to see me doing so as to get well. I was desperate to get better and go home as soon as I could. I increasingly felt more secure there and gained the confidence to push through the arduous task of rehab. I will forever be grateful for the services I received at Chandler Hall and the many, many dedicated professionals and staff who make Chandler Hall the great place that it is. Thank you for your care. To anyone who has to enter Chandler Hall be assured of the good people who make Chandler Hall run so well.

It’s been 7 months and I just visited my dad’s obituary page. I was reading a few things people said about my dad. The staff at Chandler Hall took the time to comment about my Dad, Fred. They took such good care of him the year he was there and even after, they comforted (me) by recognizing him when he went to heaven. Those comments mean the world. They remembered my Dad. And honestly, all you want are good people taking care of your loved ones. Thank you with all my heart.

My elderly mother was in Chandler Hall in May/early June of this year for Rehabilitation. After a very poor Rehab experience at another local facility in late 2023/early 2024, we were blown away by the exceptional experience we had at Chandler Hall. From the nurses, nursing assistants to the social worker, Christina, the therapists, nurse practitioner, nutritionist, administrators, there was not a person we encountered who was not excellent, committed and professional. When my mom was discharged, we had everything we needed to get her home safely. We had a meeting a few days prior to her discharge, and I was so impressed at how well the staff knew her case and made sure she got the best care possible. At the previous facility, it took a week to get an X-ray and bloodwork. When my mom developed a new condition at Chandler Hall, it was one day to get an X-ray and bloodwork with results available the next day. The Nurse Practitioner immediately addressed the issue and prescribed the required medication. Thank you, Chandler Hall team, for a wonderful experience and for taking such excellent care of my mom.

This review is long over due. My wife has been out of CH rehab for several weeks now and I haven’t had the time to write. There’s not enough good to say about Chandler Hall. The staff is incredibly dedicated in every position filled. My wife, who was in for a broken hip, was supported by aides who were cheerful and enjoyed engaging her in conversation if she so desired. They were always at the ready to come to her aid. Under staffing did not seen to be an issue. Cleanliness is a priority and the omnipresent, continuous unpleasant odors that often go with the rehab territory are not present there. Most importantly, the rehab team was fantastic. Accommodating yet dedicated. Gentle and kind but always getting the patient to push the envelope. Special note of appreciation for Jason since he did most of the rehab sessions. We didn’t realize that once your recovery time is up at the hospital, you have to more or less decide on the spot where you want to go. We had little information to go on when we chose Chandler Hall and feel it’s a stroke of luck that we’ve gotten out of an otherwise difficult time

The nursing staff was absolutely amazing with my mother in law, during her time on hospice in our home. Judy, who was her nurse, was a huge support to myself and my family on making my mother in law as comfortable as possible at home. Hospice is not an easy thing to handle, for us Chandler Hall helped us grant all of my mother in laws wishes for her last few months with our family.

I was so impressed with the nursing staff here. We were at hospice for 10 days to 2 weeks with my dad and the staff didn't have it easy with him. They really made the best of it and treated us so well, as we were all devastated by his disease that took him way before he was ready. In particular Donna a nurse who worked with Dad, and us was so thoughtful and genuine. Other nurses were great too, I don't have everybody's name but the director was also knowledgeable and wonderful. I would recommend Chandler Hall to anyone who is dealing with the end of life with a loved one. If I could change one thing I would suggest a different way to go, as a directive... hospice is a slow (10 days to 2 weeks) slow deterioration that I never should have witnessed nor he endure. We didn't know. I didn't know. I guess it is widely accepted, and very common, but for me -NEVER again. It could be just my ignorance of the process? Immaturity? No matter. Not again.

My mother went to Chandler Hall for rehabilitation after a fall and spending about a week at St Mary's medical center. We had an incredible experience there. When my mother was in St Mary's they gave me a list of rehabilitation centes to choose among, and I decided to visit them in the hopes of setting appointments for tours. When I got to Chandler Hall they took me back for a tour immediately without an appointment. Everyone was warm and welcoming and very friendly. I had to give my top three choices to the social worker at St Mary's and I was thrilled when Chandler Hall did have a space for my mother. From the first day until her last day there, my mother was treated with kindness, respect and given excellent care. She also said the food was great! I need to give an extra special thank you to the physical therapy team. They worked wonders with my mother. I was astounded at how strong she was when we were leaving. She was stronger than she had been BEFORE the fall that caused her to be hospitalized! The PT team also appealed to her interests by offering her yarn and craft supplies, I really appreciated those extra touches. The Social Workers were knowledgeable and helpful and even gave me a pep talk and a hug when I was nervous about bringing my mother hom and managing all her care. Afia was so reassuring and gave several practical suggestions. Chandler Hall was a fabulous experience for my mother and my family.

This letter is being posted to express my deep appreciation for all of the staff at Chandler Hall. I was so happy with the care and rehabilitation that Dad received at Chandler, after a long hospital stay. Chandler Hall isn’t anything fancy, but I would take the care and kindness they extended to my Dad over anything. As in all rehab/ nursing places, it’s always good to visit regularly, keeping an eye on your loved one. From my personal observation, I only ever saw staff extending smiles, kindness and treated the residents there with respect. Chandler Hall was very clean and the housekeepers were nonstop busy. The food was good and the servers always greeted the residents by their first names, were very pleasant and would joke with the residence and made sure the residence had their usual pickle or chocolate milk! The head nurse and the nursing staff were approachable (which is so important) and were available to answer any questions. Many would take the time to explain things. Which was very comforting. Social services and other services, such as palliative care Drs. and nurses were available on site, as well as a Chaplin and religious services were offered. There were activities offered for residents such as exercises, Bingo, word games and trivia. The therapy department was top notch! The therapists were very friendly, encouraging, and supportive cheering residence on no matter how small or big the accomplishment. My dad improved greatly and I am very thankful for the care Dad received at Chandler Hall.

This review pertains to Friends Nursing Home, the SNF of Chandler Hall, where my mom spent seven weeks in 2022 as a physical and occupational rehab patient. THE GOOD: * The rehab staff were excellent! Lots of virtuous circles, hard work, great energy and laughs all around - thank you, Jason, Jackie, Sarah and all! * The nursing and medical staff paid good attention to my mom's medical needs, though follow-through and communication with family were a little inconsistent. I was floored by the kindness and expertise of some charge nurses as they led the longterm care residents in group activities. * 70-75% of the CNAs my mom encountered were competent to straight-up heroic or angelic. Their demeanor ranged from neutral to truly cheerful, and a few made time for good conversation. * Phone calls I had with the COO, the director of nursing, several charge nurses, the director of rehab and a palliative care nurse were productive, professional, and often warm. * Dining room staff were very kind and devoted to the residents, and they smiled and laughed while they worked. (Through no fault of the staff, apart from breakfast, the food and my mom disliked one another from the get-go.) * The front desk receptionists were delightful; my mom loved conversing with them. Engagement Director Ralph is a gem. * My mom really appreciated the privilege of a private room for most of her stay. And the fish pond is cute. THE NOT-GREAT: * I can't quite put my finger on it but an overarching lack of organization and sense of mild chaos / desperation pervaded almost every department - except Rehab, which is run by HealthPro Heritage, a separate company. CNAs are not always accountable to the charge nurse; a charge nurse might or might not be playing a little bit of CYA; a social worker might talk so fast that 20% of what comes out of their mouth is invented; an aide might hand a resident someone else's meds; a meds nurse might wake you up at 6am and an aide again at 7, then bupkis till 11, when someone finally arrives to help you out of bed; after a few weeks, you realize that you've normalized waiting 45 to 90 minutes to use the bathroom (!); the director of nursing takes leave time, and the cat being away, the aides go rogue. Maybe it's the understaffed skilled nursing facility reality of 2022, or the nature of the work, but routinely, I sensed frustration, grimness, overwork and impending burnout among CNAs and nurses. * The clumsy physical and auditory design doesn't help. Residents' call bells manifest as ONE RINGING TELEPHONE in the atrium, where three hallways converge. (It's the Waiting For Godot phone, ringing night and day, unanswered.) Awkward congestion in the small atrium underscores that the building is no spring chicken and can feel outdated. My mom loathed the smell of the deodorizing cleanser used in the hallways, but as a housekeeper pointed out, it beats the smell of urine. THE LOUSY: * 20 to 25% of my mom's encounters with CNAs were inept, rude or unkind. She was dropped, manhandled, pushed forcefully into bed, insulted. One aide walked in and grabbed the iPad out of her hands, growling that it was time for bed. Another pair of klutzes accused her of "brushing too many teeth" at bedtime and practically dropped her on the bed. The culprits were aides employed by agencies, pulling a one-off Chandler Hall shift, unaccountable (it seemed) to anyone. Picture it: an injury has left you absurdly dependent on the CNA-du-jour for a host of activities of daily living. Every time an unfamiliar aide walks into your room to help, it's a roll of the dice whether they'll be professional or asinine. What if - unlike my mom - you're in cognitive decline and can't report negligence, so that you remain helplessly at its mercy? What if you don't have family to visit daily and advocate on your behalf? CONCLUSION: From the ridiculous to the sublime, Friends Nursing Home needs better organization, and this might take some time. Till then - in spite of the great rehab - steer clear.

At every level of care, Chandler Hall is a pearl in a category of service that is at best not cruel and at worst unspeakable. Philosophy, consciousness, administrative and staff and hands-on tenderness and thoroughness are the best I’ve seen, not just at their modulated-within-context-cost, but at *any* cost ” and believe me, I’ve taken tours of other facilities. Do consider checking out Chandler, including the feedback live and online from residents and their families; it’s all uniquely enthusiastic and grateful, and good luck to everyone dealing with this sensitive time of life.

This review is specifically related to the rehab staff. After a family member had a stroke, he had the great fortune of receiving therapy from Jason, Jackie, Shaunna, and Sarah. He could not have been luckier- their compassion and expertise strengthened him both physically and mentally. Chandler Hall took great care of my dad in his final months and they did a wonderful job making sure he was comfortable. All of the girls at Phelps House were so kind and caring. My dad's hospice nurse Erica was amazing! All of the staff from the admission/business specialists to nursing to housekeeping and dining made my dad feel welcomed. The nurses at the Pavilion initially took care of my dad before he moved to the personal care unit and they were amazing as well. The accommodations were nice and well kept. I just want to say that the services my father received from Chandler Hall Health Services was outstanding. My father John Kennedy started out using their in home Hospice care when after a couple of weeks Chandler hall recognized for his best interest that he should be transferred as an in-patient at their facility. I cant thank them enough for all the care and compassion of all the employees that took care of him from day 1 till he took his last breath on July 7th

Chandler Hall Hospice recently helped me with my mother and her passing. They could not have been more helpful, compassionate, caring, efficient and professional. I was overwhelmed by their extraordinary care, and literally, could not have gotten through this difficult time without them. Thank you each and every one of you that gave such dignified care to my beautiful mother. Laura Harding (Nancy)

Staff is generally great to work with especially the rehab folks. Some of the rooms are in pretty rough shape and need paint. The dietician and kitchen staff are the weakest link here. Continually get meals wrong and don't follow their own directives about what patients are supposed to be eating

My friend was in hospice and they couldn't have been better. So caring and made sure he was always comfortable and well fed.

My children attended the the YMCA program during the partial school shut down. They attended on days when they couldn't attend their normal school. The staff that worked with them were incredible. I could tell how much they really cared about every child in their care. They even sent us Christmas cards after the kids were back in school. They really made a difficult situation easier on me as a mom.

The staff at Chandler Hall Hicks residence were truly amazing with my mom. They did for her, what we as her family could not. We were blessed to have such kind and attentive people looking after her. The staff there became her extended family and our as well. I would entrust any of my family in their care again.

Just want today Thank you for taking great care of my mother in her last moments of life. You made my father feel good about the great care she received and comfort from the pain. Room was large enough we felt the space was adequate as though we were not in the way, as the nurses came into check on her. Thank you from the Frazier Family! Under COVID-19 rules two at a time so her brother and sisters could see her

My Mom was diagnosed with end stage cancer at St. Mary's Medical Center in August. Through the hospital, because my Dad had been helped so much by Chandler Hall Hospice 10 years ago, we contacted Chandler Hall to help us once again. As before, they were amazing and I could not have made it through my Mom's passing without their help and reassurance. The nurses are all amazing, but one, Kim, was so empathetic and compassionate, professional and informative, that I truly depended on her. Sue came out for our initial set up and also came over right away when my Mom did pass away. I can't say enough good things about the thoughtful care my Mom received and the help I received. During one of life's hardest times, I know I could not have done it without them. Heaven forbid they are needed......but if they are, don't hesitate to call them. They are truly angels on earth.

Where do I start... All of the girls that work here are unbelievably the best. I couldn't have asked for a better place for my aunt to spend her last week with us. They took real good care of her as if it was a member of there own family. Very happy with everything they did.

I wasn't a patient there but my good friend and roommate was in the hospice area because she was too ill to stay home any longer. They were fabulous with helping their patients with pain and dealing with the fact that they were passing away. They treated my friend Anna Marie and the other patients very well and gave them and family and friends comfort at the end of life. If I have to go to a hospice, that's where I would want to go.

Wanted to have my mom go here for short term rehab and possibly long term care depending on her outcome. Her favorite doctor is the director there, so it seemed like a great fit. However, we couldn't get past admissions and their response of 'wow she's young!' They didn't want to take her because she's 58. Pretty discriminative if you ask me and puts a bad taste in my mouth. I'm sure it's a great place but not open minded here. Not like she chose this life and wants to be in a nursing care facility. Cancer happens, she beat it, and now has a lot of disabling issues. All they can see is her age.

My grandpa seems comfortable here. Rooms are kind of big. Food isn't bad. As far as a nursing home, 5 stars in my experience.

We used their Hospice for about a month during November & December 2012 for my mom who had CHF and was bed ridden. Their paid staff and volunteers were fantastic, compassionate, responsive and attentive to my mom's needs (constant bathroom visits, transfers, position shifts to prevent bedsores, etc.) not only when family was there, but when alone. Also, their supervisory/management/professional staff was communicative and always had time to answer the multitude of medical, medicare, medicaid, financial and any other types of questions my family had regarding my mom. As my father is going to be 94 in a couple months, if he needs hospice services, I would not have any concerns using Chandler Hall Hospice again for him knowing he would get the best possible care. I hope I get care this good if I ever have the need. 🙂
