My Father in law Joe Kleffner lived with my wife Judy and I for almost 15 months then we had to put him in a nursing home. Very very sad day for us. We felt blessed that we were able to get him in one of the top notch facilities in Chesterfield. Keep in mind he goes in as a Medicare bed patient. Well my mom always raised us, if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all. Well we were not pleased and through my brother in law Dan Kleffner persistent hard work he found Mount Carmel Senior living in Saint Charles. My wife and I went to visit Mount Carmel we thought we would ask some of the residents what they thought of Mount Carmel. They all loved it, one lady was there for rehab and was looking forward to moving in to stay for good, but there well known for outstanding rehab she had to go home. Mount Carmel cleanliness is night and day different from were Joe came from. They know everybody by name, the whole place is cheerful. We feel very blessed to have found Mount Carmel. Our mom started rehab in October 2024 in Mount Carmel, St. Charles, Missouri. The rehab part of the facility was top tier fantastic compared to others we have been to with our mom. We had no complaints at all. The communication was super, nursing staff as well as CNA’s were great. Did not have hardly any interaction with administration so cannot comment on that aspect. It was determined, our mom would need further care, so she moved into the nursing part of the facility and that is when our NIGHTMARE all started. The first morning, my mom called me crying at 11:20am and said nobody got her out of bed yet, no meds, no breakfast. So of course i was so upset, ready to come up there and get her up myself. I called and talked to the front desk who got me in touch with the social worker. She was kind and seemed very concerned. Eventually, she did get out of bed maybe an hour later. When we inquired about the reason she was still in bed at 11:20am, we were told, We didn’t know her preference.”!We heard this statement many times during her stay. Maybe if they would have asked her? Hmmm. She was left in bed many times throughout her stay there and they always had the same excuse. Seemed aggravated we would even be concerned about it. My mom lived there until June 13th 2025, and there was not one week there wasn’t an issue. From, CNA’s being verbally abusive to CMT’and nurse's not giving her medication, nebulizer treatments and insulin, her not being checked on regularly during the night (mainly on the weekends), to one time not receiving her dinner, to which we were told she received it and it came back untouched. My mom had nothing wrong with her brain, she knew if she ate or not. No accountability at all, and i mean NONE. And every-time we would ask, [name removed] the director of nursing would say, “We have to educate staff.” EVERY TIME. Even to get her food pureed (what she was supposed to have) took weeks and many videos and me crying in the executive’s office. I was so worried she would choke. [name removed], the day nurse supervisor never had a moment to address anything and always called my mom by a wrong name, which we all told her including my mom, but she continued calling her by the wrong name until hospice came in and talked with her. So many incidents, too many to list,(but we have it all documented and will be happy to share with anyone considering this facility for their loved one), She had scratch marks on her one time, and again we got”we will educate the staff.” One time she hit her head on the headboard of the bed because a CNA threw her legs into the bed and no one let us know nor seemed to care. They seemed more aggravated that we were upset about it. Again, [name removed] walked away from me when i tried to report it to her. I reported those things numerous times, nothing changed. We eventually installed cameras in her room, and that did help. We still had incidents though, and not minor ones. She had a CNA yell and point in her face, and as my mom was attempting to tell her she couldn’t swallow the drink she gave her, she just yelled at her and pointed in her face and told her to “eat your food and drink your drink” then walked out with my mom crying help me help me (we have the video if anyone wants to see it), again, we heard, “we will educate the staff.” And also, the director of nursing, [name removed] went in further to tell us “she was not working with your mom that day, just helping out passing out trays and didn't know her”. What!?’! So that makes it ok? The executive director, Michael, tried, i will have to say. I am sure i was a thorn in his side because I was in his office at least once or twice a week. He tried to rectify the problem.He would listen and generally seemed concerned. The problem was his directors didn’t help him solve anything. The social worker had an attitude most of the time and was terrible at follow through. By the time my mom received her communication cards, she could no longer use them. I felt like i was always needing to fight just for adequate care for our mom. My mom had some fantastic staff, particularly, Dana, a nurse who worked in the rehab section but subbed on the nursing floor, was exceptionally great, and Lucy one of the overnight CNA’s was good and my mom liked her. She had others that were good also, Victoria was another great CNA. It was my mom’s home, she had made friends, and was getting weaker and weaker due to ALS, which is why we did not move her.And once we got the cameras in her room, at least we had proof when things happened. We were talking about moving her but her body could not take the transition. She passed on June 13th, 2025. The last three days of her life, i spent 24 hours a day with her and honestly, I did a lot of the CNA work (not just during her last days but the whole time she lived there)., when hospice came in, it did help, although when they were not there, I did the CNA’s job most of the time. I needed to, otherwise she wouldn’t have had the care. I rotated her, wiped her bottom, changed her, fed her, all things the CNA’s are paid to do, but i needed her last days to be good. There were times i would go try to find someone to help me change her or rotate her, but to no avail, so i did it myself. The whole experience was horrendous. They were always saying to us they needed to educate staff, so hospice said they would be happy to inservice staff about ALS. They never took hospice up on that offer nor would they listen to the family when we tried to explain her needs. We appreciated the executive director coming to her room on what would be her last day, and ask how things were going and made sure we had snacks and drinks. But no one and i mean no one from administration ever offered their condolences, through any means, email, card, text, etc. No one. My mom paid $350 a day (private pay) to live there. Not one person from administration ever has contacted our family and said sorry for your loss. What does that say? Their were CNA’s that offered their condolences and one nurse actually came to the wake. She became like family to us and we were so appreciative of her care for my mom and that she took the time to come to her wake. We didn't expect administration to come to anything, but we did expect at least a quick email”sorry for your loss.” Please please don’t make the same mistake our family did. Really reconsider if you want to place your loved one in this facility. You will have some good days but mostly horrible days that you will worry constantly if your loved one is safe or not.

My Mom broke her right hip and arrived at Mt Carmel on March 3, 2025. She was welcomed with open arms from the Executive Director, Michael to Admissions, to the Nursing staff, and most importantly, the Therapy team. Megan and her therapy team went beyond of call of duty to ensure my mom received all 3 disciplines--OT,PT and SLP for 7 days and was able to discharge back to her Assisted Living apartment exactly one week later. The Orthopedic surgeon saw Mom 3 weeks post surgery and was amazed at how independent and well she was doing for 86 !/2 years old. He could not have been more complimentary about Mt Carmel and the therapy staff. Mt Carmel is an older facility but please do not let that keep you away! the shiny new facility does not mean they provide good care. Mt Carmel offers a unique staffing model--they have the same staff Monday through Friday and then the same staff for weekends for the short term rehab unit. This allows the Nursing staff to get to know your loved one and their needs, which I feel helped Mom in her recovery. Having been in the Nursing home/short term rehab industry, my entire career, I have seen awesome communities such as Mt Carmel and many that are not so good. Again, I strongly recommend Mt Carmel. Thank you to everyone there for helping to get my Mom back home!

My father broke his ankle earlier this summer and was transferred to Mount Carmel for rehab in early July. The staff at Mount Carmel has been very supportive for both my dad and our family. The therapists working with dad have been caring, compassionate, kind and patient with dad. My dad has enjoyed the food offered at mealtime and if for some reason he does not like it there are always other options available. He can also eat in his room or choose to go to the dining room

My father in law had such a favorable experience with the short term rehab area of Mount Carmel that we admitted my mom there for long term skilled nursing when she was no longer able to stay in her home. The director, Michael Riggins, sets the tone. He has a caring, can-do attitude. The staff there exemplifies this as well. My mom has enjoyed the food too. My mom hasn't chosen to do many activities, but many are offered.

Since the new management took over, we have seen many improvements and the workers who were uninterested and unempathetic have since then been replaced with better staff.

My Mother spent the last year of her life at this home and we can't say enough good things about the management and staff at this home. The administrator, Micheal knows the names of every resident there. At meal times he comes down to see everybody in the dining room and addresses them by name. He cares about what he is doing and it shows. I was so impressed how the staff from the administrator, nursing director, LPN's, nurses aids, kitchen staff, people who did activities, and even the maintenance staff became like family. When somebody from our immediate family was not there, Mom was surrounded by her Mount Carmel family which we now consider an extension of our family. We have so many pictures of Mom smiling and having fun. Did she "want" to be somewhere other than her actual home, of course not. Who would. Did she show regret for getting to this point in her life and having to go to a home? Who wouldn't? Was she safe and cared for, YES! In her last weeks, we were there a lot. The gestures of kindness and compassion are too many to list and still bring a tear to my eye. The med tech who brought in a home cooked meal for my family one night from her home country. Priceless. Staff from the other floors who were not even working on her floor that day would come to check on her. The genuine human compassion demonstrated by people of all backgrounds toward my Mom and our family. This home deserves better than the 3 stars I see it has right now. I think some people who are there and their families are not happy about life because of the circumstances they are in currently, so the likelihood of them giving a good rating or review to anybody at that time is likely slim. Some people by default are just not happy and more often than not, it is those people who leave reviews and not enough of us who are happy take the time to do so. For those of you considering Mount Carmel, don't let the frustration and emotions you are going through taint the objective, actual care your loved one is getting. We recommend Mount Carmel. While our Mom has now passed, I hope that home and the wonderful staff there will continue to excel and never forget that they are making a difference in the lives of people who need them at a very vulnerable time in their life. Thank you to everybody at Mount Carmel!

I recently spent 2 1/2 weeks at this facility for rehab. My personal experience was excellent. The rooms were clean, housekeeping was there every day, same for the bathrooms. The food was really good with options to choose from and it was served in a lovely dining room, or the patients have the option of eating in their rooms. I can't say enough about the staff. The nursing staff was empathetic, kind, friendly and responsive. I loved working with them. They were well organized, knowledgeable, and efficient. I received my meds on time every day. The PT and OT staff were super. They focused on my issues and helped me reach my goals. The house doctor made frequent visits, listened to my concerns and took the necessary actions. Overall, I had a good stay, I enjoyed good care and friendly people. I would recommend this facility for rehabilitation and skilled nursing care.

I have had the privilege of having the staff at Mt Carmel take care of a family member. My grandfather in law whom I adored needed rehab and we chose Mt Carmel after seeing how personalized their care was not just for their patients but to the family also. He was treated with dignity and respect. Staff made sure to include us in the day to day when there and called us with updates when appropriate. It was our home away from home for a short while and even now I still consider them family. I would highly recommend.

My 93 year old mother in law Wilma has been here for over a year now and she loves it. They have done a great job with her needs and she has made so many friends. Mount Carmel is a truly wonderful facility with such caring and compassionate staff. The administrator Michael is a very caring and engaging with every resident. The director of nursing as well as all nursing staff does a wonderful job taking care of the residents and making sure all of their needs are met! The activities dept does a great job engaging and getting residents to participate in a social setting. Maintenance and housekeeping do a great job keeping the facility looking great. Therapy does a great job providing therapy services. Mount Carmel is truly an excellent place to take care of your loved ones!

This facility truly has dedicated, kind, and loving staff, including the department supervisors starting with the positive, caring, strong leadership from the executive director. The executive director and all department supervisors consistently work as a team and all have the same focus and goal of providing and delivering exceptional & notable care to each and every resident. The maintenance, laundry & housekeeping departments are always attentive and hard working. Social services, human resources, the office & front desk staff are always helpful and kind. The dietary/food services department provides restaurant style, flavorful meals and do an excellent job caring for the residents. The activities department is outstanding and consistently interacts with all of the residents on a daily basis. The therapy department does an excellent job providing services. The MDS coordinator, Director of Nursing & Asst. Director of Nursing are very knowledgeable, caring & compassionate. They are dedicated to the residents and do a phenomenal job of always providing excellent leadership to the great nursing staff to ensure all resident care is quality and efficient. This facility is truly a blessing to the St. Charles community.

My Mom, Melba Jene, received excellent care. Each staff member was extremely caring, polite and professional. Mom was in the restaurant business over 60 years, she says the food was nutritional and "absolutely delicious". Everyone; housekeeping, nursing, physical therapist, receptionist, social services, consistently maintained a smile. As a former Long Term Care Ombudsman employee, each and every staff member far exceeded my expectations. I'm amazed and truly impressed. I personally thank you for taking good care of my Mama. As for the rehab section, it's OK. The staff are helpful when not overwhelmed with caring for everyone. Food isn't that great. Rehab seems very generalized instead of for the need. Example. After hip replacement surgery, I would expect rehab on the legs & walking instead of arm exercises & group therapy. Which is more like get to know everyone.

Mount Carmel Rehab did such a wonderful job with my mother. She was well cared for, the facility was always clean, staff was friendly and they taught her things that her in home rehab didn't. She stated the food was good and when she didn't want what they were having they had an alternate. She gets to come home tomorrow and I am very thankful for the caring staff that took care of her. This has been a rough year for her and they have made it a little better. Thank you to everyone that was apart of taking care of her. You all are awesome!!!

Have read some other reviews that weren’t good and I’m not sure those people were talking about the same place because Mount Carmel in St Charles is a great place. I would highly recommend.

This is a post written by my mother Mary Allen. For everyone needing therapy I would like to share with you my experience At Mount Carmel. I have never been treated so good from the first day I come from rubbing my feet with lotion to coming in the middle of the night to walk me to the bathroom always with a smile and patience while they waited. They cleaned my room with perfection made me comfortable, nurses made sure I wasn’t in pain, called doctor if needed shared information when I asked, rubbed my feet with lotion. Never once was anybody mean to me therapist everyone so worked at my pace never pushed me above what I could do and always bragging on me when I achieved a good goal. Very positive, doctors, very informative. Explained where I was with medication drop and what they were trying to achieve working with doctors before dealing with the committing of the drug . The food has been very good speech therapist is an angel look forward to her visits every day. I have never been treated with excellence and such perfection thank you to everyone this is a awesome place of peace quietness and building back the strength you need. I recommend highly Mary Allen❤️

My 97 year old grandma went here for rehabilitation after being in the hospital. She's been to a couple of facilities over the years and I have low/realistic expectations for skilled care. Mount Carmel was responsive, communicative, and provided well for her needs. The rooms are not fancy, but the care is what should matter most.

It has been just over a year since our relative passed away while living at Mt. Carmel Senior Community. It still bothers our family the way his stay was handled. He was one of the fortunate ones to be able to afford a private room, however, it was far from a delight. The room was kept untity and we had to ask the staff many times to get it cleaned; trash on the floor, dirty bathroom, food spills, etc... We had his laundry done by the facility; dingy clothing returned and missing items. The staff had turnovers due to COVID-19 and this we understood, however, most of the time one person was not aware of the other or aware of things that were suppose to be done. One of the sadest times was when my brother and I were able to see him after four months because of COVID restriction, his hair was not brushed and he was unshaven, he had a dirty under t-shirt on with no regular shirt and just seemed sad as he never would present himself this way. When he did pass, only the nurse called to see what arrangements were made for him, no calls from the director, etc. One of his personal possessions, he had for over 20 years, of a needlepointed pillow of a cardinal bird was misssing. This was of importance for him and the family. I had called many times for it to be found but that went no where. Our hope is that in reading this review, the facility can find the changes it desperately needs to apply, and that the residence can find a better sense of security that they will be taken care of and that they matter.

Mt Carmel rehab was wonderful to my dad. The PT and OT staff are the best. The nurses were caring and the aides checked on him often. They made sure he got to activities and when he showed uti symptoms on weekends, they called the doctor and got him medicine without making him wait. The doctors there are caring and very competent. I would highly recommend Mt Carmel.

My mom has been in the rehabilitation part twice most of the nurses were great except for one very mean ignorant nurse I wish I knew her name my mom was afraid to tell me about what was going on because she knew I would blow up she was worried about her safety with one nurse. The food is absolutely terrible. I asked case management both times mom was there for medical equipment I don't think they even tried just no response at all but humongous thank you to all the nurses except for the one. She definitely will not be back

Mount Carmel took wonderful care of my parents and my Aunt. We had many choices when it came to rehab for my dad after pneumonia and long term care for my mom and Aunt. After looking at all the places in the St Charles area Mount Carmel was the only one with a real family feel. Every employee was kind and made my family feel welcome. Our parents really felt safe and happy there. Food was fantastic and the place was always clean and tidy. We also really enjoyed the outdoor patios where we often had lunch with my dad.

Tonight my wonderful Aunt Mary Micki Davis peacefully passed away this evening holding my hand, with my cousin and uncle. It was beautiful because it was the way she choose to live and to die. When she entered hospice Monday, the family was able to finally pile in and visit and just be there chattering around her. She has been staying at Mt Carmel Senior Living Center, St. Charles, MO and she was so happy with her care she received from every person who attended any of her needs. Today at least 6 nurses who knew her and described her as spicy, came to say goodbye. It was so genuinely heartfelt that this crew of people became her family for us! (Quarantine). Last month, she began sewing buttons on masks for the nurses so they wouldnt irritate so much. She became beloved in the facility just like she was beloved by her whole family! She was good people! It was an honor and privilege to be loved by you Micki! See you on the other side! ❤

Sending a fragile elderly woman home to an empty house without any medical follow up. Deciding to just pull her catheter out and see how she does and send her home. This is woman who can barely walk and cannot urinate without the catheter. They are basically sending her home alone to die alone with no help her only family is under quarantine and cannot go near her. If you love your family never never let them end up here. This woman now has bed sores she never had before this place. I hope the government steps in and evaluates this awful uncaring place. Just completely horrified for this woman who has no one to care for her and cant even walk to her door from the ambulance . Doesnt have a wheelchair. I recently had a family member in mount Carmel senior living. The staff was attentive and compassionate. I have read many reviews and some would have made me look else where. However I went with my gut instinct and I am relieved I did. My grandma was miserable at home. She sat there with limited visitors and started to decline. Once my grandma arrived there she started eating wonderful meals. They were really good. I even ate them with her. The nurses were attentive and compassionate. They treated my family member like it was their family. Wonderful place!!!!! My grandma passed as she had turminal cancer when we admitted her. Her last months of life was her best time of her life since my grandpa passed away! She made friends with several other residents. She joined the book club and was able to keep her mind until the cancer took her. She loved to go to the happy hour and bingo. I just cant say enough about mount Carmel senior living!

Absolutely fantastic! My grandma just passed after being at Mt Carmel for about a year. Working in the industry myself, I know the snf world is not an easy one to work in by any means. I knew I had to get my grandma into the best place I knew of and with Amys help, we were able to do so. My family has been beyond pleased. Although she will be deeply missed, we know she was well taken care of this last year or so of her life. Thank you to everyone at Mt Carmel!!

How do you begin to acknowledge the close bond that so many staff members forged with the man who raised and nurtured you, and needed more help than you could provide in his later years? How do you commend a team for being his greatest cheerleaders...who gave him a new mission and ministry for years...and dignity even to his final breath? Five stars do not seem sufficient.
