I take care of a relative who moved to Heritage Woods some considerable time ago. I'm writing this in December and wanted at this time of year to recognize the truly caring, hard-working and amazing day-to-day staff of HW in Agawam. I interact regularly with nine or ten people who are involved weekly or daily with her and they are just phenomenal with her and keeping me informed: Bri, Daisy (housekeeper extraordinaire!), Kathy (master chef but also so involved in the lives of the residents in her area), Jasmine, Wanda, Day, Dessa, Donna, Patty, and a special shout-out to Michelle, who's really saved me stress when we added the laundry service (they have great options for the residents who can do their own, but Michelle is so, so good with the residents, and so carefull with their wash). And I've missed some people I'm sure. The most important thing in assisted living is how the day-to-day folks help your relative and I couldn't ask for better. And that's not to say that the rest of the admin staff and other departments haven't been there when we've needed them because they definitely have. Nowhere is perfect -- there are some issues with the building, the parent company is having some controversy, and not all the changes that have happened have always made sense to us. But this is a challenging field and I wanted to recognize the people doing the hard work everyday, and let you know how great the staff is.

We toured a few different Assisted Living facilities and chose Heritage Woods for a many reasons. The facility itself is very clean and has a homey feel. There are different common areas to sit and gather both inside and outside. My mother's room is a good size and is set up so that it feels like three separate rooms. She has plenty of space for her personal things from home. The staff - administration and nursing - has been very welcoming and responsive from day one. Whenever I call they answer my questions promptly and efficiently. There are a variety of activities for residents to attend. My mother was very, very resistant to leave her home and move here, and I never thought she would be happy. It has taken just a short time and I'm so happy to say she is adjusting much better than expected and has made friends and is happy! I know the supportive staff has had a lot to do with this. Thank you Heritage Woods for making this difficult decision a very positive experience for my mother and our family!

My husband, who has early onset dementia, was recently a respite resident at Heritage Woods in Agawam. The staff was pleasant and professional making us both as comfortable with his first respite stay as possible. The facility and room was very clean and well appointed. I felt confident he experienced just the right measure of assistance and independence. Everyone we encountered was very supportive and helpful. I found it surprisingly affordable as well. So happy with the ease of transitioning my father-in-law into assisted living. Tiffany was amazing! She was friendly and efficient. Tiffany was able to arrange a move in date within a week! Heritage Woods was the third facility for my husband, and it has definitely been the charm! Heritage Woods has been a gift to my husband, who is on the memory care unit. This is the most peaceful and content he has been in the past five years - the staff are so attentive, skilled, and genuinely kind. They have regular activities, but also bring in new activities that they know specific residents will enjoy. A few days after arriving on the unit, the director noticed my husband wasn't really enjoying breakfast, asked him what he would prefer, and ever since then, that's what shows up for him every morning. The medical staff is also excellent and communicate with us with questions or concerns. I can't begin to thank the remarkable, talented, and devoted staff who not only provide such excellent care to their residents, but also such peace of mind to the family members.

My father has been at this facility for a few months now, I must say its unbelievable how good they treat the people there, my father is very happy, getting to know all the people, and the nursing staff is so willing to help your family member its such a relief, Nadine & Kristin are especially helpful if you need anything, I would rate this place 9-10 stars if I could, I'm sure there are people that have had issues at this place and other locations, but I can say honestly, I haven't seen anything to complain about. For the price the resident pays per month is very reasonable, my dad was in another location in Westfield, and they would do extra for you as long as you had the $$$ this place you pay a certain amount for your needs and you get quite a bit..... Look into it, you wont regret it !! ****** GLAD WE FOUND THIS FACILITY *******

I am at Heritage Woods twice a day. Two people who deserve a shout out are Valentina and Cathy Crigger. Valentina checks on her clients every morning as if doing rounds. That simple task enables her to see if folks are up and moving before starting all tasks. She found my mother in law had fallen. What a blessing she popped in. Cathy is a problem solver, a kind person to all who visit her for whatever they need, and a great listener to families. Also, Daisy is the friendliest person around. Yay, staff!

I recently toured Heritage Woods and I definitely liked what I saw! It is a beautiful facility and the staff were all friendly and helpful and kind to residents. There are so many things to do if you want, or lots of places where you can just sit and absorb a beautiful day. The rooms are very nice (the bathrooms especially!) and the people were just lovely.

During the challenging times of COVID-19, they went above and beyond to ensure the safety of all residents. When my father passed, the team at Heritage Woods showed immense compassion and seamlessly relocated my mother to a smaller apartment. As her health declined, every request we made was met with accommodation and care. I had shuffled my elderly father around quite a bit looking for a place that would treat him right and give him the attention that he needs and well I found it! Highly recommend this place. The staff here at heritage woods has been nothing but the best for my grandmother Phyllis. The birches which is the closed Alzheimer’s dementia neighborhood is so well done, full of activities and they don’t hesitate to call with any questions updates or concerns. When searching for an assisted living facility my dad wanted to remain in Agawam, the town in which he has spent most of his life. He is so happy to have found Heritage Woods and has been living there for almost 2 years. He feels that he is well cared for by the staff and loves all the aides that provide personal care. They have been accommodating to his special dietary needs. He enjoys the social activities especially the concerts.

My mom has been at The Birches for about 6 months now and the experience has been above and beyond my expectations. My mom has made friends, is socializing and participating in activities more than she ever has before. What’s more is she’s safe. She goes on and on about how nice the place is. The Director, Activities Director, and the entire team are always available for questions and feedback, and frequently provide updates on how my mom is doing. The aides and nurses are absolute angels. They will go the extra mile to help my mom with whatever she needs. Everyone treats her like a member of the family, and she loves that. Both my parents reside at Heritage Woods. They have a lovely suite room that is comfortable and spacious. They will soon be celebrating their 70th anniversary and the recreation director Suzanne was so helpful with a photo shoot so we can send the photos to the newspaper. Suzanne added some personal touches to the photos of my parents that put the photos over the top beautiful. There were plenty of perfect locations inside and out at Heritage Woods for taking the photos.The facility/staff has been so generous in our planning for their anniversary party..

Our family has had a wonderful experience with Heritage Woods. Dad has been on the dementia unit for a couple years and has received great care. He is safe on the unit and all his needs are met. My mother is on a different unit and loves it there. She is able to visit Dad on his unit each day and it has enhanced both of their lives. The staff are caring and responsive. We are thrilled with the professionalism and caring of the staff. We are impressed with how the program has managed to run well during all the Covid scares.

The staff is very professional. If there is a major health issue, emergency personnel are called immediately. A minor issue is handled by staff more than adequately with compassion. The facility is always sparkling clean. What is so very much appreciated is the communication between staff and family members. We always know of anything that happens at Heritage Wood in real time. Through the entire Covid nightmare we received daily(sometimes multiple times/day) updates. Very comforting for family members of residents. 5 stars on a scale if 0-5.

We just love this place. We chose Heritage Woods memory care unit for my father and couldn’t be happier. They have the most loving and caring staff. They are always positive, attentive, and will work with you to try new things that will enhance your loved one’s experience. My father is barely in his room. I had to find a safe place to put my Father due to him falling and forgetting to eat or just did' not feel like cooking so he would not eat and forget when or if he took his meds. So I talked to him about his safety and he said bring me to the woods I want to see what its about. Mind you I did go to other places like Heritage Woods to look at But right from the start the woods made us feel like family. The aids are very good with the residents even Housekeeping goes out of their way to help out. The kitchen staff they do a fantastic job and all the management of the woods well for how I feel they are the moms and dads who keep our love ones safe. Oh and maintenance they are the best my dad and called them the fixers. lol

My sister has been in Heritage Woods for several years. During this period of time I could not have been more happy with the care, services, and other activities provided to her . My sister started as a general assisted living resident but now resides in the dementia unit called the Birches at Heritage Woods. This was a great benefit to me when I found out regular assisted living could no longer meet my sister's needs and it was so nice to know the dementia unit was in the same building. The entire staff from hands-on personnel, to nursing , and even the director have helped me throughout my sisters stay. I will never forget , when my sister had to leave assisted. living for several months because of a severe health issue. I did not think my sister would make it back so I gave her furniture to the Salvation Army. Months later my sister was able to transition back. and they were very supportive . They knew of my furniture dilemma so they gave me some replacement furniture. The nursing department has also been extraordinarily helpful as they assisted me to work through some of my sister's most challenging healthcare needs. During the past year of Covid 19 , all families would have taken pause to wonder if assisted living was going to be suitable for their loved ones. I however, never had any doubt my sister was less than fully protected. Theresa Bollea, the director, took charge and Covid 19 was held to a bare minimum in the building. Her responsibly was great. Remember she had hundreds of people to be concerned about. The residents, their family members, and her staff. She set up rules which protected all. She also insured the families by almost daily email of how the residents were doing in regards to Covid 19 testing, vaccinations, and other concerns. Finally, as you know we rate most of our experiences these days. We use five forks to rate the best restaurant. We also use five stars to rate the best products.. But my experience with Heritage Woods is so good I am bumping my personal rating to a Ten!

My family is so happy we came across Heritage Woods for my mother. She has lived there for a few years and graduated to full memory care last year. The care she gets couldnt be better! The nurses who assist her day and night are so kind and good at their jobs. They communicate with us regularly so we always know when my mom needs more clothing, shoes and other household items. My mom looks nicely dressed and groomed when we see her, is always smiling and says she is very happy. The hallways are cheerful, aides and staff are moving about making sure everything is running well and all the memory care residents are fully engaged. For the first time in her life my mother is doing social activities everyday, all day and loves it. She has always been artistic and somewhat introverted so this is a positive change, particularly now that she lives in her own room away from family. We like knowing that she is moving about and seeing "neighbors". We never have to worry that she wont be safe either. Memory care is accessible to family and visitors but very securely locked. There is a nicely planted patio and garden where residents can sit outside and do projects from time to time. My mothers room is bright with comfortable carpeting and a pretty neutral paint color. Her bathroom is large and quite clean. The memory care facility on the whole is immaculate, cheerful and pleasantly decorated so it is enjoyable to visit and it appeals to my mother. She has actually said to me that her kids are so nice to set her up there; this has been a relief. Apparently she approves of the food too. She goes to meals three times a day and always remarks that she enjoys it. Heritage did an exceptional job during COVID, restricting visitation so we didnt worry our mother would be exposed. All the residents and staff wore masks and continued to do many activities, socially distanced. At one point we were allowed to meet mom outside on a veranda, and that was also very well orchestrated.It seems remarkable that staff could manage patients with little memory so well for such a long period and also regularly update all the families. I will add that the success of this memory care unit must be due to a large extent to the highly competent director (Nadine) who is also welcoming and very professional. My family truly appreciates the personal approach to care at Heritage and feels its the perfect place for our mother to live as long as possible.

Our family is very pleased with our ongoing experience at Heritage Woods. We have a beloved family member living in the memory care wing of Heritage Woods for almost 2 years now. The facility is clean, attractive, warm and welcoming. The staff at Heritage is top notch - professional, kind and caring. Their stringent protocols during the Covid-19 epidemic kept everyone safe. The communication from all departments was excellent, and kept us apprised and up to date. Most importantly, the caring attitudes, and the real efforts to keep spirits up of both residents and their families was greatly appreciated. I have been a huge fan of Heritage Woods since my mom became a happy member of this extended family 3 years ago. The process of looking for care can be daunting, as it can be one of the most important decisions you will make on behalf of, or in conjunction with, your loved one. Most centers offer much of the same in the way of activities, etc. but the differentiating factor at Heritage Woods is the level of service -- the compassion, care, and consideration you would want for your loved one. All of these qualities are prevalent among the staff and management at Heritage Woods. Since we were hit with Covid 19, we have all been navigating in uncharted waters. Theresa Bollea, the Executive Director, has done an outstanding job to keep residents safe. At 88 years old, I would not want my mother anywhere else - including my home during this pandemic. Theresa's safeguards and ongoing communication from day one provided comfort and reassurance in knowing our loved ones were being protected and cared for. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone seeking outstanding care, camaraderie, and compassion for their loved one.

Mom has lived here going on 2 years and we are all very happy with Heritage Woods. The staff is attentive and professional. The food is nutritious and good. There are many activities daily and they have day trips also. This is one of the nicest assisted living facilities in the area! Mom feels very safe and secure here. Update 2/3/21: During the Covid 19 pandemic Theresa and her staff have done an amazing job protecting our family's most valuable asset - our Mom. We will forever be in their debt. When COVID started they were so proactive and stayed ahead of it. I cannot be more thankful for their diligence, perseverance and resilience...all with a smile on their faces. They truly care about all of the residents.

Not only does my Mom live at Heritage Woods but I was a Nurse there for many years. I have been to many Assisted Livings and none compare to the atmosphere at the Woods. The staff is exceptional and only care for the well being of their residents. My Mom couldn’t be happier.

My mom has been at Heritage Woods for just about one year. She went in after breaking her hip and then convalesced brain surgery. She is doing very well and the staff is very kind. We were able to coordinate all of the services she needed to get over her two big operations and get back on her feet. Most of her recovery has been done under COVID conditions and I am very impressed with how the staff has handled all of the precautions while coordinating necessary care.

My mom has been at Heritage for just shy of 3 years and I cannot say enough about this facility! I have been very pleased; not only with the level of care and activities provided, but also with the compassion and kindness shown by the entire staff.

My mom has been at Heritage Woods for about 9 months, and every day I am grateful we found this place! Without exception, the staff is friendly and helpful - to the residents, the families, and to each other. We have relied on them even more during the pandemic to be there for our mom when we can't be. It's referred to as an "Assisted Living Facility" but I hate to even call it a "facility" because it feels so much like a home. From the lovely porch out front, to the fireplace, library and cozy dining rooms inside, it's just a very comfortable place. You can tell the residents have a lot of ownership of their surroundings and input into what happens. There are activities and outings galore, something for everyone. The staff is always willing to help with anything that needs attention, and they understand the every resident is different. They have truly risen to the challenges that came with the pandemic, surprising us with how they have creatively dealt with the ever-changing situation. Having my Mom move into Heritage Woods is one of the best decisions we've made.

My mother has lived at Heritage Woods for over three years. The staff now treats her like a member of their own family. They are caring, gentle and kind with her...exactly what you would want for your parent or any loved one. In that time, the staff has remained consistent, and I consider that to be a reflection on the administrator / management and their respect for their employees. It really feels , especially in these times of COVID quarantine, like the staff are a family to each other while at their place of work. You absolutely could not ask for a better assisted living environment.

I have been with Heritage Woods for about 4 years and I must say every time I walk through the door you just get a sense of calm and warmth. The staff and management team at Heritage Woods are just awesome and caring and always go the extra mile for the residents. Everyone is always willing to help when you are in need and that speaks volumes itself. In a nut shell Heritage Woods is a great place to be.

There’s always something going on here for residents, their families and the community. I’ve visited several times for concerts, events, parties and holiday gatherings. The residents and pets (VERY pet friendly!!) seem so happy. Food is great and the kitchen staff works very hard to meet requests and ensure all dietary needs are met. Overall a fantastic place!!! Top of the line care and employees.

I'm a resident, I've been here over three years and this place is a superior place for seniors or assisted living residents. They are very reasonable and the care is excellent. They have an exceptional amount of dedicated aides and employees. I strongly recommend this place for all seniors!

The staff are kind, compassionate and caring. The facility is clean and well maintained. There is always something interesting for residents to do. Just visited the other day to find residents listening to music on the deck , made me smile.

Just recently my Mother became a resident at Heritage Woods. My Mom has adjusted nicely to her surrounding with much help from the staff. Initially it was hard but the staff checked on her through out each day and now she feels comfortable in her new home. Thank you all for your patience and kindness.

My mom needed to transition from her own home to assisted living . Heritage woods fit her personality perfectly.
