Was difficult to find the right place for my mother to go. Once we decided here it was immediately clear we had made the right choice. Megan and Jen make sure that things are done right!

My mom had Alzheimer’s and was in memory care for almost a year. She loved to be with other people. 2 other residents were so wonderful to sit with her daily and hold her hand. She was non verbal by this point but cheerful, mobile and could feed herself but needed to be prompted at times. We would visit 2 to 3 times a week. Staff turnover was frequent and they were understaffed at times. The caregivers I saw regularly seemed to care about the residents. Paint her nails, talk to her etc. But I suspected they didn’t change or bathe her daily. 10 months into her stay a staff member clipped her toenails and one toe got severely infected. Nothing but giving her Tylenol was done for several days when they called me and she was sent to the hospital. By then she had decreased in mobility because of the pain in her foot and leg, she had an infection which led to her being in the hospital for 10 days and then sent to rehab for 10 days. By then she had already declined and had stopped walking and feeding herself. We brought her home where she sadly passed away a few weeks later. I never heard from one person inquiring how she was doing with the exception of deciding if she was qualified to return as a resident. Also, When she began as a resident I brought protein drinks for her and asked several staff to make sure she gets one to two daily but those drinks sat there in her fridge clearly not being given to her daily. Moreover, I found out that instead of the nurses giving her a finger prick for weekly blood check, they had been drawing it from her hand which was very painful. I had gave them the finger prick machine with everything they needed but not one nurse ever bothered to tell me that they didn’t use it during her 10 month stay. I found out after she passed a year after entry and they had no idea where the machine went. Just an empty case. I would absolutely NOT recommend American House on Gleason. On the surface they seem to care but unfortunately that concern and care didn’t resonate with all staff.

Hannah and Sara have exceeded my expectations for the activities for my mother-in-law. The care they put into outings and other fun things make it so enjoyable for my family. It’s nice to know that my mother in law is being taken care of.

Very professional and well run home.My husband is a challenge in memory care and the activities coordinators Hannah and Sarah are amazing!!!.They are going above and beyond to keep my husband occupied while he tackles the transition period. Many thanks goes out to these young ladies who are exceptional in their field

Everyone at American House West Knoxville truly cares about the residents well being. The kitchen staff, resident assistants and nursing staff are top notch. The activities directors for both the assisted living facility and memory care have a calendar full of activities which are important to the residents well being. The nursing staff is great and the culinary director is committed to the residents dietary needs. My mom, who just turned 100, lived there for four years and made a lot of great friends. She had to move into a long term care facility or she would still be there. I highly recommend this facility.

This is an Assisted Living and Memory Care facility. It's not a public restaurant.

We are so grateful for the wonderful care my dad receives here. The staff is caring, attentive, and truly treats residents like family. There are always fun and engaging activities for the residents, which helps keep everyone active and involved. One of our favorite things is the monthly family night, where residents and their loved ones can come together and enjoy time with one another. It’s comforting to know my dad is in such a welcoming and supportive community. Highly recommend!

I took my petting zoo to a great event they had for their residents and was so impressed by how much care and detail was put into everything. Hannah and Sarah were amazing and did a great job! But beyond the fun event, it was so obvious how much the entire staff care about the residents and how much the residents enjoy being there. This really is a special place!

I have a friend in Memory Care at American House. She doesn’t have dementia, but has had strokes which make it difficult for her to talk or use her hands. Her mind is extremely sharp and she comprehends at a very high level. She walks very well. Hannah M at American House works in Memory Care there. I have observed her over the last few months and see how she cares for patients and tries to make life more meaningful, better, and prettier for them. She is always cheerfully meeting the needs of people who are not able to communicate their own needs. She treats each one with tenderness and respect. She even takes pictures of patients and sends them to family members so they can share some experiences of their loved ones. One big happy family! My friend didn’t feel well yesterday and was in bed. When Hannah came in to check on her, we were able to watch her in action and ask her questions. We learned so much that Hannah does. She even takes patients out to get manicures and pedicures. She takes them out to eat in restaurants. She takes them to shows. She takes them to the Dollar store, etc. I was so thrilled to know that my friend is still getting to experience life outside the walls of her assisted living. I also found that Hannah encourages my friend to assist her when working with other patients. My friend is able and loves to do what she can to help others. Hannah gives meaning to her life. This just a little picture of what I see at American House. If you are looking for a place that genuinely cares for the wellbeing of you or a loved one, I highly recommend American House on Gleason Road.

Very nice place. My father is going to love it. Staff is very nice and helpful. Does not give the assisted living vibe at all. Smells nice too!

The visit was an excellent experience. Nancy Gibson--the Director took an extraordinary amount of time with me. Not just showing around but also providing much background in insights into Alzheimer's. All the staff I met were very friendly and gave a sense that they were dedicated to this difficult work. Everything was bright and cheerful. Every question was answered.

I met with Nancy to discuss my families needs for memory care. The rooms where the largest I have seen so far, Pricing was less then other facuilities. Memory care wing was appropriate for the number of residents,

The place is clean, nicely decorated, and inviting. I like the patio areas outside, and time designated to spend with residents there. The staff is very friendly (thank you!)! Julie, at the front desk, has a great smile, and was friendly and helpful to several residents while I was there. Everyone walks around with a smile and makes you feel welcome!

The steps to put a loved one in a Memory Care Community are full of concern on many levels. After touring several facilities, our family knew American House West Knoxville was perfect for our loved one. Nancy Gibson, Community Relations Director, was both knowledgeable and caring! She understands the difficult decision and helped our family with everything from our initial tour, answering all questions and working with us to ensure a smooth move-in. Jujuana Tory, the Memory Care Director, is truly gifted at providing the appropriate care for the residents in her community. The Community is clean and comfortable, and the employees make it feel like home to residents and their family members. We are pleased with every aspect. There are no words for the gratitude we have for knowing our loved one is in a wonderful environment and the peace we have in knowing that he is properly cared for everyday!

Nancy Gibson gave me a great tour of American House West Knoxville. She was delightful! It was a large place and very open. Everything I saw was clean and well maintained. Showed me where my husband would be staying and I met the lady who would be taking care of his activities. She was very nice as well. I think my husband would be happy there but not quite ready to take that step.

I can't say enough good/great about American House in West Knoxville. My father was at American House for 6 months before his passing at almost 94 years of age. I wish I had gotten him there earlier. All of the staff are great. The nursing staff is great. The custodial staff is great. The facility is always clean and beautiful. The food is great. The food staff took care of my father and his request on a special type of honey mustard. The assistants are great. Everyone is so nice and patient. There seem to be activities all of the time. There is music several times per week. As my father got towards the end, they continued his great care. I hope that when I reach the same age as my father that American House and that level of support are available.

the changes that have been made within the last year have been astounding. The staff are amazing from the office to the cleaning. the care level has been astounding. I've never seen an assisted living facility where staff pitch in and help like they do at American House. The shining star at this facility is the care the residents receive and the efforts everyone puts in.

American House goes above and beyond for their residents. They are shown respect and each resident matters. They have an amazing Activities Director who puts forth effort to give them opportunities to be involved and has several events each year and also regularly has entertainment, food, karaoke, arts and crafts. I recommend this Senior Living Community.

Elmcroft was our third location for my husband's memory care. Several things have made this the best place for him. The staff are upbeat and caring. He is treated with respect. The onsite medical care and physical therapy here are often unavailable other places. I can communicate with his medical team via a patient portal which greatly improves communication.

I could not have found a better staff to take care of my dad. It is easy to find a nice, clean, up-to-date place - but the people are what makes Elmcroft so special.
