As we are aging, our daughter wanted us to move into a facility where we would not the responsibilty of running a household, and managing help iin our home. We visited several of the area facilities, and found Sunrise of Columbia the best fit for our needs. We feel we made the correct decision, and are glad to be here. Most of the staff is very responsive to our needs and make an effort to help us when we ask. We feel that we have made an absolute correct choice in being at the Sunrise of Columbia.

Toured this location for myself, even though I'm very young, everyone was incredibly welcoming and answered all my questions. Even though I had so many, I toured the whole facility and the staff is truly wonderful and has been there many many years and really cares about the people there. It's a wonderful, warm community and all the residents seem to love it there and it has the appropriate care level that I need. I'm very pleased with this place and I would be happy living there

When my husband arrived back to Sunrise after an extended hospital and rehab stay, everyone worked so hard getting him back to walking, eating, self care and dressing. He made great progress even before the official physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy were approved and arrived a few weeks later. Hats off and thank you from the bottom of my heart.

The difference in my mother's health, acuity and strength from before her moving in to a few months after is a remarkable testament to the care she receives at Sunrise. The staff is warm, the ambience is calm and peaceful and joyful too.

I'm updating the review I wrote three years ago because of events of the last few days: My mother wound up at the hospital after suffering a heart attack and I was appreciative of the level of communication between Sunrise of Columbia and Howard County General hospital. Then I found out that the Resident Care Director and the Reminiscence Care Coordinator visited my mother in the hospital and spoke extensively to their care coordinators there. Apparently, it's common for them to visit their residents who have to spend time in the hospital, but it's such an extra mile to go; what an impressive display of compassion. Thank you, Mary and Finda. Original post: I am thrilled beyond words that my mother is a resident of Reminiscence Care at Sunrise of Columbia. The care and compassion that she receives from every staff member involved in her care, and from the staff manning the front desk, the housekeeping staff, the nurses, and probably other people I haven't met, is beyond my expectations. John, Mary, Shelley, Finda, Fabienne, Neena, Tamara, Kathy, Melodie, Glenda - these are just a few of the people who've touched my mother and who've allowed me to feel much less stress than I could've imagined. Add in the daily activities, the homey, comfortable setting, the attention to details both inside and outside the building, and what my mother calls "great food," and you have a winner.

I have been pleased with the care that my husband has received at Sunrise of Columbia. He is on the memory care floor and the team has done a great job to acclimate him to living there (a rather long and difficult process at times). Now I believe he feels comfortable with the people and the routine there and is doing well.

The residents are happy and joyful every time I come in to teach Tai chi or have a musical for performance, where quite often John Crow the Marketing Director and his great voice will join in . Engagement is key. Sunrise of Columbia has a great home like feel and ideally situated within the community. I highly recommend Sunrise of Columbia if you're looking for community for yourself or a loved one.

My Mom has been there for almost 6 months. She needed 2 people to help her get around when she first arrived, but now she is self-reliant and more animated, engaged, and mobile than I have seen in 3 years! She loves all of the in-house activities.

Sunrise of Columbia is a great community right in the heart of Howard County. John Crow took me on a tour of the community and I was so impressed with how homey it felt as well as how professional and caring the staff are with the residents. Their nursing team is very responsive and they also have wonderful activities to engage their residents. Highly recommend for anyone looking to transition into senior living!

Karen has been in a good mood during her stayed here at Sunrise. They get her up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner using the power lift that I purchased for her with Finda's help. The staff has all been great in helping Karen manage her needs.

I have had experience at other nursing homes with my mother-in-law and husband. When we decided it was time to move my husband to a new facility we went to see Sunrise. As soon as we walked in the front door my son said we are moving dad here. It was like a home, not a facility, and everyone was so friendly. We moved my husband in within a week and haven't regretted it at all. It is impossible for him to be at home and we have no plans to ever moved him out of Sunrise.

Our family's experience with Sunrise of Columbia was our third facility for our father. Far and away, this has met his changing needs due to dementia, aging, lowering mobility, and increased care needs. We are able to be honest with concerns and make care plans unique to his status and needs; and are respected for our input and work toward an amenable solution. The transition to needing to move to the dementia unit was handled with sensitivity and care. From the concierge to the care staff to the nursing to leadership, we feel like he, as well as we, are family. Most all staff treat our father with respect and even when he's expressing upset, they give him space, and vary the approach to achieve success in tasks or care. We especially appreciate the effort to assign consistent caregivers so they get to know his habits and nature, and ones who show great caring whatever the response he displays. Our goal is that this is his last "home", so that we are confident in his care as his health evolves. Thanks immensely from an involved family.

Sunrise of Columbia is a beautiful and clean facility, but what truly sets it apart are the staff members. John, the Director of Sales was knowledgeable, endlessly patient and kind. Mary, the Director of Nursing is an amazing asset to the facility. Her knowledge base, work ethic, and overall dedication to the residents is incredible. Every staff member from caregivers to activity coordinatiors to housekeeping staff obviously love their residents. Difficult situations are handled with grace and compassion not just with the residents, but with the resident's entire family. We couldn't have asked for more and will recommend this facility to anyone looking for a wonderful option for their loved one.
