Reviews The Summit

My mother-in-law lived in Summit's Memory Care for over a year before we moved her in March 2026 to be closer to other family. The hardest part of the move was taking her away from several devoted, compassionate Summit caregivers - Grace, Virginia, and Sheena are amazing women that treat the residents like family. My 3 star rating is based on the difficulties we had with the frequent turnover (sometimes unbeknownst to the families) of the management/supervisory team and also because of the influx/use of Agency caregivers that created inconsistency of care.

I moved to The Summit about a year ago and find out a very nice place to be. I enjoy the staff very nice and Lisa is really a nice lady. She’s helped me a lot and all the guests that live here are really nice so there’s a lot to look forward to. They even have exercise place where Bayata is great cause I have to get some PT as also nice to have the workout room so many things are incorporated in here. Keep up the good work,

In 2023 we began having a conversation with our Dad about what it would look like to leave Connecticut in order to live closer to family. I live just outside Denver and my sister resides in Newark, Delaware. While the mountains of Colorado were enticing, staying on the east coast with a larger majority of his family nearby won out. So in July 2024 we helped Dad pack his life in Connecticut and moved him into The Summit in Hockessin, DE. Choosing the Summit was a process for sure. Our family is known for doing it's research and asking an excessive amount of questions. When it came to making a final choice though, The Summit was hands down the winner! And we have never looked back. The location and accessibility to local retail is great. From the exterior the property is beautiful. Once inside the building you feel more like you're in a high end hotel than an independent living facility. The amenities are incredible! Dad's favorites being the movie theater, the game room and the pub. Dad's one-bedroom apartment is spacious and light filled, with a balcony overlooking the retaining pond. But the BEST part about The Summit are the people! ALL of the people! Those that work for the Summit - in the background and in the forefront, are friendly and provide a level of service that makes you feel like they truly care about you. And the residents are engaging, humorous, supportive and filled with love! Dad's an introvert - but he made so many new friends and got involved in numerous activities, some of which we expected (cards + games) and some of which shocked us (performing in the annual skit). Dad quickly fell in love with his new life in Hockessin at The Summit! Honestly I don't have a single negative thing to say about our entire experience with The Summit. My only regret....is that we didn't get Dad to relocate a few years earlier! The Summit staff and residents have truly become an extension of our family and we're forever grateful!

I’m very satisfied with the facilities and the management and the employees. Overall, the dining room servers are fantastic. They do a great job. The facilities are excellent and well Maintained. They offer outside activities, which you can join in or not some are free and some are optional pay I used to attend almost all of the outside activities the various theaters and plays but now that I’m in a handicap mode I do very little outside activities anymore.

I think The Summit is an excellent place to be and enjoy it very much. I’ve been here almost a year and I’m very happy with it.

I see The Summit as an opportunity, how I choose to participate is up to me. The Activities Director is soooooo accommodating. Dining (the chef provides a diverse menu daily). The Staff has my back. My apartment has everything I need. A housekeeper is provided. I can walk the hallways on rainy days and walk the beautiful landscape paths on sunny days. Did I say a housekeeper is provided!! Finally the most important aspect of my Summit experience - the residents - trusted friendships to share the good the bad and the ugly.

The Summit is a truly special place! From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by friendly, helpful staff who go above and beyond to communicate clearly and consistently with families and visitors. The residents are full of energy and joy ” it’s clear they genuinely enjoy living there. Whether it’s in Assisted Living, Independent Living, or the Memory Care unit, you can feel the sense of community throughout. As part of Nurturing Angels, we’ve had the pleasure of hosting and participating in many events at The Summit, and every experience has been warm, well-organized, and full of heart. It’s always a joy to see the residents actively engaging and having fun. The Summit is more than just a facility ” it’s a vibrant, caring home.

If you’re looking for a five star facility for your loved one, I would highly recommend the Summit. The facility is beautiful, Clean and staff is so professional. From the business portion of facility to the medical staffing is again very professional. For assistant living, I have been so impressed with how the medical team checks on the residence. There are daily activities every day with a full schedule listed for the residence. 24 hour call service for all your needs. They have a five star dining room with daily specials which is excellent.Again I would highly recommend the Summit

This year I made a presentation to the residents and guest at the summit as part of a larger Veteran's Day program. The program was excellent from my fellow speakers to the live band! The residents were engaged and seemed to enjoy the day. I know I did. The best part of the day, besides the band, was being able to sit and enjoy a meal and fellowship with the residents, veterans and non-veterans alike. A truly special day with very special people!

Wow! I was impressed...so clean and a great atmosphere. The staff is extremely attentive and I felt very welcomed.

I, along with all my students, have thoroughly enjoyed performing at the Summit Retirement Community. The beautiful decor and spacious environment create an inviting atmosphere for both residents and visitors. A special thank you to Ms. Dallese, the Director of Entertainment, who was incredibly helpful in setting up the event and making sure it was a success. Her kindness and attention to detail made our experience seamless. We truly can’t thank her enough for her support! Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and we look forward to future performances at this exceptional community!

We had a great time performing our holiday show for the residents in assisted living at the summit! We look forward to returning soon!

My wife and I have lived well in The Summit in Hockessin for three months. Our move from our 58 year old home was made quickly. We do not regret the move. The Summit is our new home. The staff is more than competent and the residents are friendly. We have established new friendships - and re-established a few old friendships. Our apartment is comfortable, homey and clean. The food is delicious. Families are welcome to visit and eat with their loved ones. Meaningful activities are plentiful. The tribute to Veterans on November 11 was over the top. I am participating in a very worthwhile in -house physical therapy program among other activities. My wife is participating in an exercise program. We are productively active.
November 2024
My Mom has now lived at the Summit for over a year in the Memory Care Unit. Although her memory is fading very quickly, she is stronger, healthier, well fed and more active. She loves the staff and I'm happy with the way she is cared for! The staff love her in a special way that makes everyone in my family believe she is in a good place. I grateful for the Summit and recommend it to people with a mom like mine.
November 2024
My parents made the transition here seamlessly and beautifully! The staff are super attentive and responsive. Activities are well organized and of great interest. Every time I call to check in on them, my parents are on their way out the door to meet with new friends to play cards or attend an outing. They are quite pleased with the food, I am relieved that they are eating healthily and regularly. The Summit offers a warm and inviting atmosphere. My parents love love love their new home!!!
November 2024
The Summit has been a wonderful addition to the Hockessin community. The residents are always kind, and the staff is consistently cheerful and eager to help, which speaks volumes about how The Summit treats both its members and employees. The facility itself is pristine and state-of-the-art, providing an excellent environment for all who live and work there. Each resident receives a daily schedule of various activities to keep them engaged and active throughout the day. I recently attended a Veterans Day ceremony at The Summit, which was open to family and friends. I was impressed by the turnout”well over 100 attendees”and the event itself, which featured inspiring speakers and a live band playing military tunes. All in all, The Summit is a breath of fresh air in the retirement community industry. Thank you for all you do”A+ service!
November 2024
I was at The Summit for a celebration on Veterans Day that I was invited to by Lisa Romeo. I have to say I was not expecting such hospitality and a rewarding experience. From the employees to the residents, everyone was so warm and inviting. The breakfast was absolutely delicious! There was a band and several speakers uplifting all the veterans there, it was a very heartfelt, happy time for everyone. By the time I left it felt like I had gained a few new friends for sure! I applaud the Summit for their dedication to our Veterans and I can't thank them enough for a great event.

From the first day I walked in The Summit, I noticed how clean and neat it was and everyone I met was very pleasant and welcoming. As I was shown around I was more and more impressed. They offer many, many services and activities. An excellent retirement community.
December 2023
Lisa Romeo and Michelle Strum are extremely knowledgeable and helpful, it is a delight to work with them.
December 2023
My mother lived at The Summit, in Independent Living, for her last 7 years. She loved it there! She was a very social person, and the environment created there was perfect for her. Scott Thomas (activity director) always had various events planned for the residents to participate in. From concerts, to shopping, to various field trips - there was always something for everyone. My mother developed a wonderful new friend network while at The Summit. She had a beautiful apartment and often entertained her neighbors in it. She also met with friends in the pub for happy hours. Again, Scott Thomas was instrumental in making sure things were set up and ready for the residents when they came to the pub - and always greeted them with a smile on his face. Thank you, Scott!!!
December 2023
Wonderful place to bring your loved ones. Very caring and compassionate caregivers. We treat your loved ones just like they are apart of our families.

I've had such a great working relationship with Lisa Romeo. She holds great marketing events and I've referred several people to the building because of her

Christmas seems a great time to express our appreciation to Lisa Romeo and all The Summit staff for the courtesies and welcoming atmosphere provided the Brandywine Valley Stamp Club. We especially enjoy meeting and chatting with residents when they visit with us!

December 2023
We have had a wonderful experience from the start with The Summit. Michele was so welcoming and helpful in working with us to choose the perfect apartment for my mother-in-law and helping her make the transition to her new home. Everyone in reception has been equally kind and helpful. The residents as well as the staff in the dining room have also been lovely. We are thrilled!
August 2023
The Summit deserves a 10 star review. From the time you walk through the door and T is there to greet you there is no doubt you have placed your loved one in the best facility around. We researched 21 facilities and chose The Summit for memory care for my father. The nursing staff goes above and beyond to answer any questions. Nurse Wanda is wonderful. She is compassionate and really cares about my fathers well being. The Summit offers activities all day long for the memory care patients to help them stay engaged. Roxanne the activity coordinator has a full day planned for the residents. Roxanne is so kind to the residents and family members. Anton and Jess go above and beyond helping the residents with the activities. My father is very difficult to assist due the stage of dementia he is in. The CNA’s know how to calm him down so they can help him with daily living. They all are specially trained to care for dementia patients. Zeem, Grace and Victoria care for him like they would their own parents. The memory care wing is spotless clean, no odors, well lit and has large halls for the residents to walk around. The food looks good and the residents have choices of what they would like to eat at each meal. The Summit really deserves a 10 star rating. Thank you so much for taking such good care of pop pop !!!!!!
August 2023
My mom is a new resident in the memory care unit at the Summit. What a great experience always around. The staff are friendly and attentive, the food is appealing and delicious, and they keep the residents engaged with a variety of activities. What a blessing to have found this beautiful place.
April 2023
The Summit is going downhill. It’s not what it was when it opened and prices continue to increase. Dining room is understaffed so service is poor. Food is awful. There used to be a juice machine in the lobby. It’s gone away. There is a coffee machine but not as good as the previous machine. The front desk concierge left. He was the star of the show. Do your research. I called regarding an over charge on a dinner bill and no one ever returned my phone call.

February 2020
THE Summit facility and staff are wonderful. From the moment we walked through the door for the initial tour with Quinna, our independent living experience continues to be very positive. Quinna, Latania, Lisa and Henry are outstanding. The food is great too! Resident Chef and Wait Staff provide a consistently great dining experience. Overall THE Summit offers the perfect combination of professional, kind staff and a beautifully maintained facility.
February 2020
My mother is a resident of The Summit. The care and concern exhibited by the staff has been nothing short of amazing. They are responsive, organized, extremely pleasant and helpful. The assisted living area is beautiful and the wide variety of activities offered is very appealing. I am totally confident that my mother is in good hands.
January 2020
Memory care has been treating my mother exceedingly well. However, and for the reviewers who say the nursing staff is terrible, this is not a nursing home, it is assisted living, and while the care staff are wonderful, they are not set up to have a lot of nursing care. There is always a nurse in the building but I don't know how they remain as knowledgeable as they are about all of the residents. And the food is excellent! Even with dietary restrictions!

When touring The Summit it appears beautiful, clean and well staffed. Our family member has now lived there for several months. We have had many, many issues with The Summit. The nursing staff is not good and The Summit has ignored our complaints. The building also has several issues. For example, the heat has been broken for several days now. Again, the management doesn’t seem to care about the residents and their well being. I feel for the residents that don’t have family to help them. If you are looking for assistant living be sure to ask many questions and to really look at the facility and staff. The Summit has many issues beyond the beautiful walls.
