I lived at Independence Village in Avon Lake, before moving in with my daughter. The care I received during my stay was great, and the housekeeping staff took great care of my apartment. The food was wonderful, and I participated and enjoyed the activities that were offered to residents. I would highly recommend Independence Village for any level of housing need.

I’ve had a really positive experience with Independence Village and would absolutely recommend it to others. The level of care here truly stands out ” the staff is not only professional and attentive, but also genuinely kind and compassionate. You can tell they take the time to get to know the residents and treat them with respect and dignity. The activities program is another huge highlight. There is always something going on, and the variety is impressive. From social gatherings to games and special events, they do a great job keeping residents engaged and giving them things to look forward to. It really adds to the overall sense of community. They’re also currently in the middle of a major interior renovation, and it’s looking beautiful. The updates are modern and bright, and it’s clear a lot of thought has gone into making the space feel comfortable and welcoming. Overall, it’s a warm, well-run community with excellent care, great energy, and a space that’s only getting better. They work so well together and you can tell with each and every one of them that they care so deeply about the residents and their families. My mother has been in assisted living for several years now. Her apartment is very nice with a bedroom, bath, living room, and kitchenette with a refrigerator and microwave. Big enough to meet her needs but not too big. Housecleaning does a great job keeping it clean and the care givers are friendly, compassionate, and meet her needs which are growing greater as she ages.

My mother-in-law has been in the Independent Living community for 2 1/2 years. It was unsettling for her to move out of her home after 55 years; however, the staff at Independence Village really went out of their way to help with the adjustment. They were very proactive about helping her make new friends and tried different arrangements to ensure this. They even made sure she was able to navigate to her apartment by "hanging back" and helping if needed. The aides are so personable; you can tell that they "don't just hire anybody"; these aides are carefully chosen for their love for seniors. And they learn about their residents so they can meet specific needs. The chef is phenomenal! He and his staff prepare exceptional meals and provide beautiful and tasty treats for special activities. Honestly, it's like they are cooking for royalty...and that's how the residents are treated! Even the younger servers are sweet. The activities they do are so fun and creative. They plan so many outings and adventures. Honestly, my mother-in-law went more places in one summer than I have gone in 3 years! She even went kayaking (with her aide doing all the rowing)! The front desk staff is always friendly and helpful, as well as all of the administrative team, which, for the most part, have been there since she arrived. You don't see the turnover here that you see in other places, and that includes the aides as well. She really enjoys being at Independence Village and always says what a nice place it is. When we dropped her off after church last Sunday, she said, "Home again, home again..." Brought a smile to both of us.

My father was in memory care at Storypoint. The care was top notch. The nursing staff monitored dad closely. Coupled with hospice care from gentiva in his last few weeks it gave me peace of mind to know how well my father was cared for. The staff was always considerate, kind and went above and beyond. I have had the opportunity to visit IV Avon Lake a few times, and can't get over how beautiful it is! The residents are very kind and welcoming and seem truly happy. Our first impression of the Independent Living residences was and continues to be AMAZING! Our family member joined the Independence Village family as a resident one month ago. It was a difficult transition, not uncommon. One month later, she is smiling, happy, making friends, and joining the activities. The communication between all concerned is fantastic!The amicable staff knows the residents by name. The residents are friendly and welcoming. The apartments are beautiful. The activities are fun and plentiful. The dining provided by Chef Phil and his culinary team is delicious. Such a warm and welcoming community compared to others I’ve experienced. We became a part of this community a little over a month ago, and we are so happy with the care that is being given to our loved one. The caregivers are compassionate and concerned about our loved one's happiness and well being; residents have the same caregivers so a relationship is formed. The activity director and her staff keep the residents involved in a myriad of events that engage, teach, and entertain. I am so awed by how the staff really know these residents, even creating events based on their interests. Birthdays and special occasions are celebrated in such a way as to make the resident feel so special. The administrative team is not behind closed doors, but is hands on. Their communication across department heads is exemplary and is intended to improve the quality of life for each person living there. When choosing this facility, four people recommended it in one week. I'm glad we listened!

I have been here to play piano for the residents several times now, and it is always such a pleasant place to be! I have had nothing but positive experiences. The staff members are both professional and caring, and it is an incredibly nice facility with friendly people. My mother just passed a week ago. She lived in Independence Village Avon Lake for 11 months. She suffered greatly the past 6 months. Lost the ability to walk which changed everything, suffered from confusion anxiety and severe depression. In her last 6 days she was in a lot of pain and I was at her bedside so able to see first hand the care she received. The patience, kindness, affection from the nursing staff to the aids was everything I could ask for. From the administration to the cleaning staff they did their jobs the way people are expected to and showed kindness in every step. There are too many names to mention to say Thank You to. Know that if you choice Independence Village as a choice for your loved one you will not be disappointed. In addition, the Crossroads Hospice was beyond the best!! Thank you to all, your love and kindness makes a difference in peoples lives...

My Nana has been a resident of Independence Village for the last year and it is an absolutely wonderful place! Ever since she moved in, they have taken many steps to make her feel welcome and to help her to become part of the community. They provide excellent care and have helped her adapt to the health challenges that she has faced. I have also been very impressed with how they handled the difficulties of Covid-19 pandemic. I have seen them work extremely hard to try to balance resident safety and also quality of life. They have been very creative to set up safe activities like virtual trivia (you team up with your family member over the phone) and help coordinate FaceTime and window visits. Their hard work has made this difficult year so much better for my family. I am so thankful that she is in a safe place with people who care about her.

My experiences with Independence Village of Avon Lake has been wonderful! The common areas are so sparkling clean! Not even once this winter was the interior entrerance sloppy, wet or littered with salt from the outside! I don’t know how they do it, but they do! And the food... fantastic! It’s delicious! It’s fresh! And such a variety!! I love coming to eat with my brother because there are so many delicious choices, his table buddies are so interesting and kind! I love their stories and experiences! The Staff is truly remarkable! Professional! Talented! Always with a smile and putting residents and families first! I have never met a more compassionate and sincerely caring group of people under one roof!! Why even the Maintenance fellows always give a wave from down the hall, and just take a moment to listen and chat with a resident no matter what! From the young servers in the dining room to the Executive Director... everyone knows your name at Independence Village of Avon Lake!! Everyone is important here to each other and to the Community! I love that! And I love the difference such kindness, consideration and respect makes in the healthy living here!! And the activities are diverse, intelligent, encourage creativity and give opportunities to try something new!!! So clever this Life Enrichment Staff!!! They live up to their Titles, for they truly enrich each and every life with their heart and soul!! Yes! I do think that Independence Village of Avon Lake is a remarkable place! One month ago, I moved my mother from an assisted living facility in Sandusky to Independence Village in Avon Lake. She'd been in Memory Care for 12 years at the other facility but as her physical and mental health was declining rapidly, I wanted her close. Moving a parent with dementia into a new facility can be stressful on the patient as well as those who love them. The staff at Independence Village did and continues to do everything in their power to ensure this transition went as smoothly as possible for my mother as well as me. The staff treats the residents of Memory Care with kindness and dignity. They display an incredible degree of patience and do an excellent job of meeting each resident where they are at any given moment. As a result, the residents are more content and engaged than at other memory care facility I've seen. There are activities throughout the day including music and yoga for residents interested in participating. Residents are given food choices at every meal and the food is good. During the past month, I've had meetings with everyone from the executive director to heads of each department at their request. They do this so I know who to call with any questions or concerns about any aspect of my mother's care. The staff at Independence Village treat the residents and those who love them like they would their own family and friends.

This is a beautiful and very clean facility. All staff is helpful and friendly they go above and beyond to provide quality care for the residents. They offer many selections for each meal and the food is delicious! They have a wide variety of daily activities for all residents to enjoy. They often go on breakfast/lunch trips and shopping trips. They offer independent apartments, assisted living apartments, and also have a memory care secured unit. There is staff on site 24 hours a day always willing to provide exceptional care for the residents.
