Reviews Brookdale Lake View
May 2024
As I approach my 4th anniversary here, I can say I'm fairly happy. There are plenty of activities, and you can create your own if it doesn't already exist. My reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the heath center has very short hours, and too often no one shows up for those. This is the only place I've been, so I also need to see if I can find somewhere less expensive.

I moved to Brookdale Lake View in May 2023 and love living here, especially having a responsive and knowledgeable staff, the amenities and the nutritious and delicious meals. Brookdale Lake View is a welcoming place that met what I was looking for in an Independent Senior Living community - a safe and vibrant neighborhood close to public transportation, shopping, restaurants, medical care, Lake Michigan, and downtown Chicago. It felt "homey" from the moment I walked in their front door for my first tour. I also wanted to be pro-active as I age and live in an "all-inclusive" apartment that has built-in socialization, complimentary transportation, and a wellness center vs. renting a regular apartment. I highly recommend choosing Brookdale Lake View as an option for retirement living that has an OUTSTANDING location in Chicago and a place where you feel welcomed and safe.

The management and staff are great. They are very kind and understanding. I'm new and didn't know what to expect in an assisted living facility, but everyone here made me feel welcomed. Very nice apartment and the dining is great.

My wife and I had been contemplating a move to senior housing for the past 3 or 4 years. During this period, we visited many facilities including Brookdale facilities in two states. We found several that had much to offer and with a wide

I moved to Brookdale Lake View at the height of the pandemic because I no longer wanted to feel isolated in my apartment. I reached a time when I knew I wanted to be in a community around other people and wanted access to programs to keep

I've been here about a year and a half, and , quite frankly I never thought I would end up living in a senior living community, but I have been happy here. At first I was shy and didn't leave my apartment, but thanks to encouragement from staff, I finally left my comfort zone. And because I did that I have met some really special people and I feel more comfortable, connected, and supported. I am thankful to several staff members, but especially the Brookdale caregiver, Adedayo (Dayo). because after a short time, she would make sure I left my apartment when she did. So I began to feel that I was part of the community. The rest of the staff were also very supportive, and would always welcome me and knew my name, which made me feel safe. I started attending special events and classes that are interesting and fun too. I started going to happy hours, and made some friends there too.

In September 2022, I will have lived at Brookdale Lake View for 7 years. From the beginning I was impressed with how the Lake View staff was caring, outgoing and friendly and how they were accommodating with reasonable requests and resident needs. Another aspect that was important to me was the variety of resident programs including music, art, educational programs, games, and nightly movies. Another great community program that Brookdale offers is the on-site spiritual services. Living at Brookdale Lake View introduced me to the artist within myself. On Monday mornings, I attend Audra's "Art for the Soul" class where we work with different mediums to inspire our creativity. One of my favorite art mediums I discovered in Audra's class is painting! As a person blind from birth, I never challenged myself to try this type of creative expression. I was her first participant in her class 5 years ago, and still attend regularly with the same enthusiasm as the first day! Another program I really enjoy is Kathy's Art Class! We meet twice a week and the big project we are working on is our Wall Mural. One of the coolest parts is seeing how a group of residents came together to create a vision, work on a goal and slowly see it come to life. My favorite part is learning how the creative process works and building friendships along the way.

Brookdale Lake View is a friendly senior residence community located alongside Chicago’s beautiful lakefront. Its staff is both competent and cooperative. The dining experience is exceptional and an abundance of user – friendly activities are provided to fill your day. I would recommend Brookdale Lake View without reservation.

I've been at Brookdale Lake View for 4+ years now, and I am happy I made this move. I'm so glad I wasn't living home alone during the pandemic, the social isolation would have been hard for me, and I am glad I did not have to worry about grocery shopping or driving. The location is so convenient everything is so accessible: the transportation, the lake, and the park is just right outside our front door. The staff here is very helpful and the meals are enjoyable. Our dining program is great because we have so many choices, we have a daily menu and an Always Available menu to choose from at lunch and dinner. There is so many nice people I met here there's always someone to join with you at an activity or an outing. If you are looking for something to do there is always an activity to fit your interests whether that's card games or art or lectures on a variety of topics. One thing I am involved in is the art studio mural our art instructor Kathy is so patient and encouraging always giving positive feedback to each resident and bringing out the artist in each and every of us. Another great weekly event is Happy Hour it is a great leisurely time where you can meet and socialize with people over a glass of wine. One program I really love is our exercise program, B-Fit with Labake, he is one of our fitness instructors. He is very encouraging and attentive to each individual's needs and can make suggestions for the exercises to fit their abilities. Labake is a resident favorite here because he is very personable, upbeat, and brings great energy to each and every class. Another weekly class, we recently added is, Chair Aerobics with Paul. I love chair aerobics because it incorporates stretching, stress relieving deep breathing exercises, and it is all round a great physical workout. Every time I leave an exercise class, I feel refreshed and energized ready to tackle my day.

I've been at Brookdale Lakeview for a year and a half. Prior to coming here, I have had a prejudice about senior living situations. I can see now that was an uninformed opinion. The residents here are pleasant and polite. They are, we are, making a useful adjustment to the diminished capabilities that can be an unwelcome part of aging. The programs here are well designed to help with issues related to aging. The residents and the staff are cheerful and helpful. The apartments are of adequate size. It's easy to get in and out and to get around in the building. Getting out and about in Chicago is uncomplicated. Three main things standout out for me. The staff is capable, respectful and never condescending. All the employees give the impression that they like their work. The medical doctor, Dr. Garcia, on staff is well informed, and the kindest, most caring doctor I've ever met. He clearly loves his work. And finally, the food here is simply outstanding. We get good meals with a wide variety of choices. By the way, I am not getting any compensation for this testimonial. Jim Simson

Brookdale provides a nurturing environment to heal - the Assisted Living staff is available 24-7. For example, I came in a wheelchair and I fell my first week at Brookdale and someone was there to help me, they provided all the essentials - medicine, food and checking my current health status. Routinely providing blood pressure, and provided transportation resources so I can go to Shirley Ryan for physical therapy and hospital visits. The nurse, Olan, always confirmed my doctor appointments and made sure I had car fare. The Brookdale staff always encouraged me throughout my recovery and as I made more physical progress I began taking the CTA 151 just outside of the community to get to physical therapy downtown. I have gained confidence and independence enough to leave Assisted Living and move to a Independence living apartment.

A NOTE OF RECOGNITION and APPRECIATION It is now five days after the roll out of Brookdale Vaccination Project. A sense of well-being permeates our community. This no doubt is a result of the vaccine I want to take time to pay tribute to the Brookdale team that performed like the all-stars that they are; it was as if they were on a field of play, each in his or her position carrying out the task at hand! What was most amazing was we were treated as if we were precious cargo, and the sign read Handle with care and in some cases the sign read Fragile and we were treated as such. The MVP trophy does not go to an individual but to the entire team, it does not sit on a mantel! It arks over the Brookdale Lake View community, fueled by the uniqueness by each team member: a perpetual rainbow.

Fair warning. I moved here from Florida, which qualifies me as quite mad. But I got the last laugh. The warmth of the reception I received more than made up for the freezing temperatures. I frequently tell the people at Citibank, There is no such thing as Customer Serrvice at Citibank. They should study Brookdale Lakeview. From my first inquiries to my last 7 months living here, the staff here could not possibly be more warm, friendly and helpful. That warmth is exponentially more meaningful during Life in the Time of Covid. I have told the executive director, whose name shall remain David, that the helpfulness of his staff is eloquent testimony to his skill as a leader. I picked this place sight unseen. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions.
January 2021
I came to Brookdale Lake View expecting to have a short stay. Due to the corona virus I decided to remain. I was expecting bad food and an indifferent staff. What a surprise! A lot of it comes from the top down David Chamberlain, Executive Director, is always out and about helping with anything that is needed. I believe he is also watching how the workers react with the residents. I have never been in any other facility where the workers are so patient and caring Some residents have physical disabilities and at first i would try to help them. Other residents would tell me to step back because the policy at Brookdale Lake View is to encourage people to do as much as they can do themselves. The goal is to have residents be as independent as possible. That made a lot of sense to me.The food at Brookdale Lake View is very good considering how many meals have to be served at the same time. Brookdale Lake View holds frequent meetings where residents are able to give feedback about the food and can make suggestions to the dining staff. I had a hard time believing that changes would happen until I began to see improvement reflecting the feedback from the meetings. We meet in a dining room that has a view to a patio garden. One day the chef went into the garden in his white coat and tall hat and started to pick leaves. Later I found out the they had an herb garden that the chef uses in the daily cuisine.Caring staff, good food and many fun activities in normal times make Brookdale Lake View Senior facility a good place to live. I would highly recommend it.

My mom lived at Brookdale for 10 years in the Independent Living section and was very happy with every aspect of her life there. The entire staff is amazing: Administrators, Dining staff, Housekeeping staff, Building maintenance. The physical therapy office has a wonderful staff also--they worked with my mom often and really helped her. Mom made several friends at Brookdale too and enjoyed dining with them in either the large dining room or the the smaller dining room. Mom also loved going to exercise class, art class, movie night, and regular live music concerts in the Sheridan Room or in the lobby. The public spaces are all nicely decorated and friendly, with plenty of free coffee, tea, and ice water available. I recommend the Brookdale Lake View to everyone, especially if you like the park or the lake: theyre literally just outside the front door. Its a loving, caring community--a second family in many ways.

I wish I could give more than 5 stars! I had an amazing experience working with Annastazia. She was very kind, helpful, patient and knowledgeable. She went above and beyond to ensure I had the best experience. The rest of the staff was great and the facility was beautiful. The location is just off the lake with plenty to do nearby. I highly recommend this place!

Brookdale Lakeview is in a great neighborhood in Chicago. Dave, the director, seems to never go home, always there when you need him. There are staff members that have been there for years and their dedication and work is greatly appreciated!

I am giving 5 stars to the STAFF! My Mom has been there 5 years now. There is always good and bad with any long term health facility but what remains consistent is the care and attention the staff gives. The Director, Personalized Services, Housekeeping, Food Manager and Maintenance ... all the department heads show great consideration to the Residents. The gentlemen in the Maintenance department are truly gentle men. Besides being great at their job, they are personable and show true kindness and patience to the Residents. Also, I hope Brookdale Corp appreciates its employees at Brookdale Lakeview who have done such a phenomenal job through this COVID-19 crisis.

My Dads experience was wonderful from start to finish; they were responsive to his needs and offered support and appropriate levels of care as they became necessary; every person who we interacted with on the staff was warm and truly cared for the residents. I have nothing but positive feelings about the whole experience and I highly recommend Brookdale Lakeview.
