After visiting The Piper we felt like home. My mother feels safe here and enjoys all the activities. The staff does a great job caring for their residents. If I could I would give more stars. Leaving a love one is never easy. Realizing that you can not take care of them is hard. The Piper has not became just a place to take care of him. The Piper Assisted Living facility in Kansas City, Kansas has been absolutely wonderful in caring for my dad. He began on the Memory Care Unit, and after a fall that led to a hospital and rehab stay, the administration and nursing staff recognized that he needed an additional level of care. They sat down with my mom and me to talk through what that care could and should look like, and we truly appreciated their honesty, compassion, and responsiveness. For families, it is so important to maintain routines that support the care plan and help create a sense of normality, safety, and comfort for loved ones who need additional care. The Piper staff has been incredibly supportive of that. My mom eats dinner with my dad nearly every evening, and that predictable routine helps him feel safe, connected, and loved. I was there recently and was instantly filled with joy watching the staff interact with all of the residents. You can tell they care deeply. The Piper is a special place, and our family is very grateful for the care, kindness, and dignity they continue to show my dad. I would definitely recommend The Piper to other families.

Our mom recently needed to move into a Memory Care Facility. Two different friends recommended The Piper since she wanted to stay in Wyandotte County, where she had lived all of her life. A Place for Mom also recommended The Piper and quickly helped me set up a meeting with staff on their day off. My brother and I met with them and the best description I can give is that WE felt like WE had come HOME! The administration and support staff are kind and knowledgeable and dedicated! They call or text ME to check up on me! They keep us very informed and updated and as involved as we want to be. Our mom was very fearful of going to a Nursing Home. The Piper is NOT a Nursing Home. It is a Community! You enter into a beautiful common area with a grand piano, a living room and a gathering area. Beyond that is a conference/community room where all kinds of fun activities continually take place. Whether going left or right or up the elevator, you go into a Neighborhood named after local Kansas City neighborhoods, not into a wing. From there you can go into an apartment or follow the hall into the community room, living room, sun room or dining room, or even onto the patio where you’ll see beautiful flowers your loved one might have just planted by the pergola or walking path. I stayed with my mom the first few nights and was provided everything I needed, including food. She had no problem adjusting and absolutely loves it here! She feels welcome, well taken care of and safe, and enjoys all of the activities as well as going on the outings with her new friends. We feel the price is reasonable, as well. So many other places divide the rent, meals, care, medical care, etc up into different costs and you don’t really realize you are actually paying the same amount. Thank you to Skyye, Ashley, Kristie, Raven, and so many others I haven’t named, who take the time to make sure our mom is well taken care of and happy. I don’t worry about her every minute, every day, anymore! THAT is priceless!

My Dad is in memory care at The Piper and given the challenges that all health care facilities face I'm very pleased. Of course there are things now and then, but never anything serious. My dad is content, they made a point of making his move there easier and it went well. It's clean, there are some very caring attendants there (some not, but again staffing challenges), maintenance is great and helpful. 5 stars, reccomend.

New update: Had a good discussion with the DON and staff. Resolution on both sides in progress. DON was very professional. Will update further once things progress. Update. Things are not going so well after the 1st 2 weeks. He needs more care than they are willing/able to give. We were misled about the level of care. My father moved in a couple of weeks ago. It was challenging to find a setting that he would like, let alone making the hefty transition of not being able to live in your own home any longer. He really likes it here, and that is saying something. I trust him being there which is a huge relief.

We had to move Dad in quickly and Angie Williams was very accommodating! Thomas helped set the TV up twice without grumbling! The concierge, Darlene, is just precious! She has helped so much. The path hasn't always be easy but every time I met with the administration, they were so willing to do all they could to make sure Dad was happy. The nurses have been great! Rhonda has been incredible in helping Dad. So has Tricia. They really make you feel like they are as concerned about the well-being of your loved one as you are!

We moved my 96 year old grandma here in early December, 2022. That first week, we all noticed a bad smell in the entryway, & honestly, I was like, "Oh no! Is it gonna be a stinky, dirty place?!" It absolutely IS NOT that kind of place! The carpet in the entryway had something spilled on it that was smelly, they had it cleaned & the smell was gone! My grandma has dementia & sometimes forgets she lives there now. Then she gets a little panick stricken. The staff members understand this & are very patient & kind, assuring her she's ok until it passes. I'm there quite often & the staff seemed stand-offish, at first. I wasn't sure what to think. Now I see they are being respectful of the time you are spending with your loved one by by not interfering. When I have questions I ask & everyone is more than happy to assist. My grandma is happy, well cared for & safe at The Piper.

My mother has been here for a little over six months now and we have been quite impressed with the entire facility. She absolutely loves her apartment and it is kept very clean. She loves the staff and they seem very attentive toward her. My mom has been at The Piper for almost 4 years & is happy there, which is our ultimate goal. She moved from assisted living to memory care during the Covid lockdown, which was a very difficult time. The Piper did their best at allowing visits through a front window. The facility is clean with individual rooms & a nice dining area & a sunroom. Mom has always enjoyed the food which is prepared & served in her household. There is a courtyard in the back where we can walk or just sit & get some fresh air. The activities are some of the most fun & creative I’ve ever seen, Deanna & Sky are exceptional in their roles. They seem to really care about the residents & provide help to everyone individually. The care staff are friendly and most seem to care about the residents as well. We’re very happy that mom chose to live at The Piper. No place is perfect, but we feel this is the best place for our mother.

We were looking for a safe place that would assist with medications and daily housekeeping tasks and this was it. The households give a small, intimate feel to a much larger community. Each household has it's own gourmet kitchen and formal dining and living rooms. The rooms are well appointed with kitchenettes and even a washer/dryer combo so our loved one can have independence but have access to 24 hour care if necessary. As some have mentioned staffing is an issue at times, but I believe that to be true anywhere. New ownership recently has seen a change for the better and I am hopeful that things will continue to improve. They have a calendar chocked full of social activities, which I think is paramount in helping residents with memory care issues. The staff they have is polite and caring and they do their best to be sure that all residents have the opportunity to be involved in the community. The facility is beautiful and not at all "institutionalized". So many Wyandotte County "lifers" and they all know each other from previous interactions in their younger days, but welcome others with open arms. Our loved one is happy, healthy and well cared for, and that is what is most important.

A cruel loud woman walked in while I was asleep in my frail and elderly mothers bed and was yelling at her and woke me up. She informed us that we did not receive her clearance to visit and I must leave, before Thanksgiving dinner was even served. Her birthday was the day after. We both were scared cried. Who was the strange man at the breakfast table early as I made myself tea and I recognized a worker there despite her newly done fresh hair/wig and baby blue talon like fingernails. Spoke with a lovely Haitian lady and then went back to my mothers room. I was not aware men were allowed on the women's floor in Strawberry Fields, 3rd floor amongst the elderly ladies and quite a strange set up there. Very. I consider her yelling at my mother abuse of power, intimidation, and cruel. We both cried. What a tragic day and birthday for my mother. I was heartbroken. My mother did not want to eat. Messed up communication system but a zillion percent better than Delaware Highlands! Good team members, but the lady, Rose, I think, was unprofessional and is unfit to deal with the vulnerable frail and elderly. Sad. Truly sad.

My favorite aspect of The Piper is the small households. Allows for staff, residents and families to truly get to know one another. To be known and seen as an individual is so important in this setting. We all have different ways and preferences and this doesn't change just because we age! This is a beautiful facility and can feel very homey. However, I've been staying here with my sister the past 4 days and have seen signs of employee staffing changes, lots of new staff or understaffed, as well as overworked staff who are willing to help take up the slack. That has led to great concern. Transfer of information for patient needs is non-existent from one shift to another. They’ve either been ignored or the shift change who was willing to fill in did not get the proper instructions that were left by the previous nurse. Lots of new staff seems to indicate dissatisfied workers. Maybe it’s lack of pay or maybe they are required to work in positions they were not hired for. That’s too bad given your beautiful facility. In my opinion, you could be rated the number one place to move to if a few minor changes were made.
