I took mom to many places, both in Atlanta and South Fl where she lived. She chose Berman Commons. Initially it was not my first pick, but by the time mom was ready to go, they had completely updated the facility. To say that it is gorgeous does not do it justice! It does not feel stuffy or stiff at all though. It is just absolutely beautiful. At night it is incredibly peaceful and quiet and the lighting makes it feel almost magical. The apartments are significantly larger than any others we saw. It even has a HUGE walk in closet!! They will move or add shelves as you need (my mom is unusually tiny in stature). Which brings me to the staff: I am not even sure I can put into words the gratitude I have for the Executive Director Lisa Miner!!!!! She is an angel from God- I am sure of it! There is not another human more beautiful and caring and accessible than Lisa. If there is ever a staff member who does not appear to love and appreciate their job, or who is not a good fit, they are just gone and replaced with people who genuinely seem to care. The residents can be difficult (we get to be that way when we get to like 102!!!) but somehow the staff show up and do whatever it takes to be helpful and make the residents feel safe and cared for. It is small enough so they know all the residents by name and their stories. The food was not great when mom first got there, but Lisa got a new cook and now it is delicious! I can not say enough good about Berman Commons if you have a loved one who is in need of assisted living or memory care. I have been on the memory care ward several times and was surprised to see how wonderful the staff were with these folks as well. They do not just sit around- and the staff know them all! Update: I can hardly believe I failed to mention Tara! Tara is Director of Nursing. That said, there is nothing she will not do to help a resident, including endlessly searching for mom's lost keys! She and Lisa have worked together elsewhere for years. They are seriously the dynamic duo!!! P.s.s. To say food delicious may be a little too generous. That was first week of new chef:) Definitely days that it is really good; others meh... hard cook for that many people but they do good job trying to accomodate and know all residents and their preferences

My 90yr old mom is thriving at Berman Commons! Everyone from Executive Director, Lisa, Activities Director JJ, employee Mullah, her son Gabe whose part of the attentive wait staff (as well as everyone involved in activities, nursing, aids, dining, etc) has treated our Mom with highly personalized care, kindness, compassion, patience, and dignity. Unlike other communities we looked at, Berman Commons offers an abundance of weekly interactive activities and entertainment (visiting alpacas! all varieties of live music, curated birthday parties!) to keep her engaged and happy. Also, They are highly communicative with my sister and myself and are quick to address any questions and concerns. Fellow residents are absolutely lovely and mom has made wonderful friends, both single and couples. All in all, the superstar Berman Commons team has created a warm and welcoming community. Apartment is light and airy with high ceilings and a beautiful view. We, and most importantly, our mother, could NOT be more thrilled!

Berman Commons has been a terrrific place for my mom. It has especially ranked excellent since the arrival of the new Director, Lisa Minor who is very invested in the residents and staff. The caregivers are very caring and conscientious and certainly attend to the residents. Berman Commons is not-for-profit and thus, they are not burdened with many of the issues that a for profit assisted living facility might be burdened with. Lisa has done an outstanding job in managing the facility and making certain that the residents are cared for in a superior manner. Berman Commons is a wonderful place. The rooms are spacious and well designed and laid out to allow for mobility assistance when needed. Large windows let in significant sunshine and create a feeling close to nature. The administration is flexible and responsive and does everything they can to support the residents and their families. The staff is super friendly, professional, highly trained and anticipates the needs and desires of each resident. The ability of the staff to facilitate residents success is unsurpassed. Their location in Dunwoody provides easy access to some of the best care in the world through Emory St Joseph's Hospital, Northside Hospitals and a plethora of support services making access to doctors and tests unparalleled. I have multiple loved ones who have recently moved to Berman Commons. While there have been some glitches (maintenance issues and confusion regarding care schedule), Jaylen (Resident Care Coordinator) and Lisa (Executive Director) have been very responsive to resolve these issues. The facility is appealing, comfortable and clean, the activities for the residents and the food are excellent. The apartments are spacious and have a lot of natural light. Overall the care staff are friendly and helpful. Transitioning to assisted living can be difficult. No place will be perfect. I would definitely recommend Berman Commons to others.

I give Berman Commons a five star review. I will begin with my mom’s time at Aviv rehab and then on to the Cohen home and lastly Berman Commons.The facility is beautiful. She rented a studio apartment overlooking the courtyard. She always felt very safe and comfortable. The food was good and the activities were abundant. The staff were very kind, caring and familiar.They made my mom feel like family, everyone knew her name. Lisa Miner, the new director is wonderful. She is kind and compassionate and a wonderful choice to be at the helm. Sadly we ended our story with Weinstein hospice. Our experience with Jewish home life has been nothing short of a blessing. My mom was happy and safe and well taken care of. I will forever be grateful to have been connected to Jewish home life and all that they offered to care for and assist my beloved mom in her last chapter.

When I first began searching for a memory care facility, and not being familiar with what such a facility entails for a resident and their family, it can be a considerably steep learning curve along with bumps in the road. After I visited several facilities and deciding on Berman Commons, my wife has now been a Berman resident for over a year. I must say that management and staff have made the learning curve easy and comfortable to navigate, which in my opinion says a lot. Considering what the staff must deal with on a daily basis at any facility, overall the Berman staff and management have been attentive and caring, which again, in my opinion is what a good facility is all about. This is especially important given what the resident and family are now enduring in terms of what life has presented to them. No question that my wife is now in responsible and good hands. Yes, there may be ups and downs at any facility, and different residents have different needs, but to me the important thing is knowing how well management and staff address the comfort and needs of both the resident and family. From what I have now observed, it’s not an easy task but Berman certainly makes the effort, and it shows. Bottom line, I would recommend Berman Commons to anyone who is searching for a 'home' for someone they are trying to help.

After 4 years sense my mothers passing its way past due for this review : We were one of the first families #7 to move our mother into Berman Commons when it first opened . We were there for lots of growing pains challenges and changes in everything from care to dining . I had many a heated discussion at every level of management in those early days but kept moving forward in creating a safe and dignified place for our mom . I toured other facilities multiple times just in case but always worked things out through dialog and communication . I probably would not recognize many if any of the staff at this point but wanted to just leave a review that our time there was pretty special as we look back at the final part of our mothers life . Finding a perfect place for your loved one is a huge task and quite challenging these days but honestly we were blessed to have been part of those early days where everyone came together to make things work. As a non Jewish family we loved our time learning so many things and being included in every tradition new and old . Even though it’s been a while I know that this is still a good option to be considered and truly one of the most caring group of families out there overseeing every detail of management and staff to make sure their loved ones are well taken care of .

I absolutely LOVE everyone at Berman Commons! My dad transferred there from The Cohen Home (also part of JHL) and both places have been so good to him! I’ve had him at two other facilities before this, and let me tell you, you want your loved one here. The staff truly cares about the residents. They take time to get to know them, learning their likes and dislikes, and working closely with the family. Colette has supported my dad through so much in the past year. Nardos has been amazing as we navigate through my dad’s newest care plan. All the CNA’s have loved on my dad and it makes my heart so happy that I know he is well taken care of there. I’ve experienced the worst of AL at other places, but now we get the best! I highly recommend coming to Berman Commons!

My mother in law has been a resident for nearly 5 years. She arrived needing little assistance and enjoyed an active life there until Covid restrictions and then a health issue interrupted things. It took some months of adjustment for her to go from a longtime family home to an apartment but she loves her large rooms and the accessibility that wasn't present in her old home. We appreciate that we were able to decorate it with her things to make it seem like a downsized version of her former home. She has made some very good friends and enjoys the activities available. We know she is safe and in good hands there, that her medications are being given on time and as prescribed. That the staff is kind and interested in her. And as she has become less abled over time they have stepped up their services to care for her. She tells us that Berman truly feels like her home and she is glad she made the choice to be there.

My mother moved into The Berman Commons in October of 2020. It was a good experience but I was frustrated with a cascade of changes in staffing for the next year plus. Since then it has been as close to perfect as I could hope for! The staff from Denise (CEO), to Nardos (D. of Nursing) to floor staff, admin and maintenance have been AMAZING! Their basic care was (of course) exemplary but it's all the extra things that really put my (and my mother's) experience over the top. From general flexibility to obvious and actual personal empathy, mother's level of care is everything I could ask for. The staff is not only professional but clearly take personal stake in the residences' well being and the extended families' comfort level. Transparency and heartfelt sentiment color all aspects of my experience with The Berman. I am so thankful that my mother is in such a great place! I extent a HUGE thank you to all the staff for their amazing level care and responsible custodianship!

Berman Commons was a marvelous home for my mother. During her time there the staff was always attentive and loving. She felt well cared for and chose to be as active as her health allowed. My mother was even pleased with the food. Unfortunately my mother has passed now. While we were cleaning out my mother's unit after her passing, many of the nurses and aids stopped by in tears to pay their respects and share with us how much they were going to miss my mom. I am sharing this with you as an example of how caring the staff members are and how they look at every resident as a part of their family. After being advised by medical professionals that our Mom was no longer safe living independently, even with limited in-home care, we visited 5 different Assisted Living facilities and chose Berman Commons. We found that the environment and the staff was caring, concerned and compassionate - they know and care about each individual resident. In particular, Amanda Bunder (then the Program Director) took a particular interest to see that our Mom was integrated into the community and had a good experience. The floor staff was caring and communicated with us when a situation indicated that was appropriate. In fact, one of the CNA's was emotionally affected when she learned of our Mom's passing. We also had several opportunities to eat with our Mom in the resident's dining room. The food was always well presented, tasty, and with options meeting anyone's needs. If a warm, caring environment is what you are looking for, Berman Commons is a great choice.

Very happy my father decided to enter Berman Commons and wish he had moved earlier. The move in was smooth and the staff was so helpful to make sure he received everything he needed especially the care from nursing staff. Alex handled everything from call one to making sure he had the right cable. And all during Covid...? I was expecting the worst and got the best. And it seems like every time I call, there is someone in the room checking in on him, taking his temperature, going over the menu, or helping with small items that makes his life easier. But more importantly than how pleased I am, is how pleased he is. He feels taken care of and that is everything. I can't wait to see how they operate post-covid because it can only get better.
