My mother lived out the last 12 golden years of her life at Magnolia Gardens in Toms River NJ , until she passed at the ripe old age of 104! My mom had various health issues that one would expect in a very elderly woman, and in her last several years, her dementia, which had been mild at first, slowly progressed, despite medications for Alzheimer’s, so that she needed more care & monitoring. The Magnolia staff- her nurses & aides - stayed on top of it and they maintained an excellent quality of life for her for 12 years. Throughout her many years there, my mom was well cared for,. The proof of the great care is obvious: she lived to age 104 while living at Magnolia Gardens! My mom was respected, even loved by the aides who were closest to her. I visited there often and at different times of the day & evenings, so I know what I’m talking about. Regarding the food that another reviewer complained about. Those complaints are exaggerated, even spiteful, and the photos posted of small amounts of food in half-empty take-out containers are misleading. Some residents like to eat in their rooms instead of the beautiful dining rooms, and some residents ask for & receive extra sandwiches & snacks long after the dining rooms are closed. Formal dinner is served in the dining rooms between 4:30 & 5:30 PM - appropriate timing for seniors in their 80s, 90s & 100s. Lunch in the dining rooms starts at 11:30. And of course they start the day with breakfast. Regarding the amount of food on their dinner plates: Many seniors eat like birds! Some don’t even finish what’s on their plates! This isn’t the Olive Garden or an all-you-can eat buffet! The size of the portions is appropriate for seniors in their 80s, 90s & 100s. Many have digestive issues & need special or bland diets. All of their dietary needs are taken care of by the nurses & kitchen staff. Another reviewer complained that there is only an LPN & certified aides on duty after 11 PM. The RN’s are off-off duty by that time but are always on-call. This is standard procedure for an assisted living facility & in compliance with NJ DOH regulations. Magnolia Gardens is NOT a nursing home or a hospital! Seniors requiring a higher level of 24/7 medical care belong in a nursing home, not in assisted living. Regarding another reviewer’s ill-informed complaint that residents get only about $94 dollars a month in cash set aside from their social security checks. Well, yes, this is in compliance with federal regulations. The rest of their social security checks pay for their room & board! Families of seniors can always deposit more cash into their loved-one’s account. (What would most seniors in assisted living even need more cash for?) I’ve also seen with a bird’s-eye view what life can be like for other seniors who live in large, corporate-owned assisted living facilities. Some of those places aren’t what they appear to be on their manicured surfaces. Seniors who live at family-owned Magnolia Gardens in Toms River NJ are the lucky ones.

My mother was a resident of Magnolia Gardens Assisted Living for 9+ years before her recent passing. I live in Pennsylvania and had researched and visited 7 other New Jersey facilities before deciding on Magnolia. It was the best decision I made. I knew as soon as I walked into the facility that this was the one - large open area, clean, friendly staff. During these 9+ years the highest quality of care was maintained, I never had a complaint. Mom was treated as family by the entire staff even during her Hospice care. During one medical incident, it was one of the staff who came to her room to collect trash that noticed something was wrong and notified nursing. I can't say enough good things about Magnolia Gardens. Magnolia's staff will always be part of my family.

Excellent facilitycaring, professional staff. Highly recommend. My aunt resided at Magnolia for 15 years, first in her own apartment and as her illness progressed in the Village. Magnolia provided top notch medical care, a kind staff, in a homey, friendly environment. My aunt enjoyed the activities, the food and the people. My sister and I were responsible for my aunt and since we live out-of-town we relied on the expert Magnolia team for communications. They were available to discuss her well-being; during Covid we participated in weekly Zoom updates; and we received weekly updates on her condition. Magnolia was always there and they always cared.

My mother in law has been at Magnolia Gardens for the past 4 years and when it was time for my mom I decided to have her there also. The entire staff, nurses, CNA's, LPN's, housekeeping, food service and many more are awesome. The care and compassion goes above and beyond. They are on top of everything that has to do with their care. I get calls immediately if something happens with either one of them. It was the best decision I've made. I recommend it 100%
