This place is not where anyone should spend their last days. They will suffer and be mistreated when love ones are not around. I’ve seen it happen! The care takers do not care. Staff are hired with no experience and should in no way be caring for such residents. Don’t be fooled. Put up a camera and see for your self if you have already placed your family member here.

I would suggest this home to anyone. Such a homey and welcoming environment. If you’re looking for a place for your loved one, it would be a place where you should take them. I personally have been in the building, taking care of patients and enjoy the comfort I get knowing that the caregivers truly do care for their residence.

From the first moment walking in the door, we thought this is a good fit for dad (95 year old). One of the first things to hit, is that the residents were all smiling and happy. The next thought was that the caregivers were also smiling and happy too. Plus, the facility was bright, sunny, clean and had a warm residential feel. We moved dad in shortly after that initial walk thru. From day one, staff has treated dad like family. My siblings and I had a very confident feeling that dad's needs were being met. I would highly recommend Our House for anyone who's family member needs memory care. Alisha, Melina and staff are super awesome!

While strolling through Menomonie Memory Care, I noticed that the professional, friendly staff members are interacting with residents, referring to them by name. My mother is currently a resident and has been treated with respect, engaged in conversation, and encouraged to socialize with others. As a family, we are so grateful our mother's personal needs are met and she is acheiving an optimal quality of life. I would recommend this facility to anyone needing a place for a family member to call home.

I have worked at Our House and you do not want to know the horrible things that go on here and to you’re loved ones. Policies and rules do not happen at this place. I’ve seen residents verbally, emotionally and physically abused and not cared for. Workers did go to the Executive Director Alisha with concerns and nothing was ever done. She just ignored or said would do something, but never did. She didn’t care. I’ve seen medications mixed up and given to residents and workers would laugh about and cover up. When it could seriously harm them. Residents put to bed with soiled pants. Over night staff would come into work from the bars after drinking and on drugs. So much doesn’t get documented. It was beyond stressful to work here and know the residents were not getting the care they should. The residents with the worst memory suffered the most because they could not communicate what actually happens to them. Most of the employees I worked with did not care about the residents safety or dignity and were annoyed by most and would get short with them and not understand the disease. The director Alisha has no clue how to manage or care for the residents here. She gossips to employees like a high schooler. I heard a lot that the resident is just declining to families when in fact it was the lack of care and sometimes harm they received and lack of experience from anyone caring for them. Sadly a lot of the residents didn’t have family that would even visit to know any better. It was scary the people I worked with here, they couldn’t find help, so they took anyone. Putting your family member here is a huge mistake. trust me!

My Mom has been at Our House Menomonie since December 2020. She has been comfortable there and well looked after. Medications are given in a timely manner. The facility is small and homey and the staff is always available to the residents needs. If my Mom has a special request for scrambled eggs, they will accommodate her. Our family feels very blessed that we have found a safe home for my 100 year old Mom.

I agree with Angel’s review this facility is terribly dangerous for anyone’s loved one. Please do not consider this facility. It is poorly run and yes, Alisha does not care about the residents. Her employees have no respect for her and all talk very poorly behind her back and have stated they would never leave their loved one here. Half these reviews on this page are from employees that have stated their boss Alisha has asked them to write a review to make the place review high. That is just one small example of how Deceitful of a person she is and unprofessional to ask this of her employees for the purpose to look good. They need a paycheck and complied with their boss. Their Facebook page is a perfect example of social media versus real life it is not the reality of what happens at this place. One would think all their time and attention should be focused on caring for the residents not worrying about pretending everyone is happy and have time for such things. Yes, Alisha does push hospice and promotes as a luxury service in her words “it doesn’t mean they are dying, but they can get nurse care and free medications on.” “Lots of medical conditions can make you qualify” That is reckless, morally wrong and not what hospice is intended for! Example a 98 yr old women living there Alisha wanted on hospice and the family refused because she didn’t need just because she was 98 years old. Alisha was mad and complained to her staff and her staff agreed the women did not need and her family was in the right. That’s disturbing. Assisted living facilities are for individuals who need SOME level of care monitoring services, but not to live in a setting without 24 hour access to nursing services. Alisha is excepting residents that need 24 hour skilled nursing care and it is so dangerous for your loved ones to be in the care of Resident care takers with no experience in memory care or medical issues. Giving medications out with no understanding of side effects and how to use. They deserve so much better. Would you leave you’re infant children in such a environment? No. Maybe the name should be changed to Hospice house not Our House. Nice decorations and nice to you’re face staff is not going to protect you’re loved ones with any or complex medical conditions. This facility don’t be fooled does not follow the same rules by the State like a Skilled Nursing Home. Which means their rules to follow are loosely monitored and no one to enforce them like a skilled nursing facility. They will make up their own and their personal errors will be covered up and you’re loved ones will at this facility be neglected and abused. Just ask a Nurse in a skilled nursing facility or Doctor the difference. Please be involved and watch what is happening to you’re loved ones here. Memory care elders are so easily harmed and taken advantage of. This is a website to help potential family members on what is happening here and no one should be discouraged to speak the truth and personal experiences. We have to look out for each other and protect our loved ones in this time of their life. I only hope it can help educate and help save you’re loved one from endearing suffering here and live their final days the way they deserve to.

I wrote a review toward the end of May and stand by that review. The reason for this follow-up is that I have been greatly disturbed by the review of Angel. I am not writing this to negate her personal opinion or experience but am writing to clarify for people that read her review that advocating for a resident to be evaluated for hospice is a very positive thing. It is never and will never be up to Alisha or any other director to make the final call regarding a hospice admission as an individual has to meet specific criteria to be hospice eligible, and a physician makes this clinical determination. In Angel's review she wrote, "She (referencing Alisha) pushes for all residents to be on hospice to use their nurse as she has no medical experience and doesn’t want the liability on her." I want to commend, Alisha, first for completing her PhD and second for being on top of her profession and for doing the right thing. All Alisha can ever do is advocate for a resident, and that advocacy includes being observant of potential end of life signs and then reaching out to an area hospice for further expert evaluation. As a hospice social worker and psychotherapist, it has been my experience that is is far more detrimental to error on the side of not reaching out to a hospice in a timely manner. Feel free to google the one page pdf "10 Common Myths About Hospice Care" if you want to educate yourself on the facts. The ability for an individual to define what "dying well" means to them physically, emotionally, and spiritually and for the person and their family to be provided with the help necessary to accomplish that definition with the assistance of a hospice team is an invaluable gift. On a final note, I just want to encourage people who choose to do reviews to not make their review a personal attack, and for those reading reviews, to take time to discern what is true and what is a character or personal attack. After all, Our House Memory Care is a fully licensed facility that has to comply with State regulations. Concerns of the nature brought about in Angel's review should be brought to the State not to social media. Of course, that is my opinion and I am basing that opinion on over 25 years of combined mental health and hospice experience.

Where to start, I guess if you have a loved one there who has memory issues…..pay attention to bruising, what pills they are being made to take and questioning hospice. It’s a business and the bottom line is making money at expense of residents for the business. People with dementia can’t express themselves like ones with no memory issues. So it falls upon the loved ones to pay attention and question any doubts you see or may hear. Failure to do so could be costly to your loved ones, don’t be fooled by appearance’s. Because in end yes though it may appear your loved one is being taken care of….you owe it to yourself and owe it to them to make sure they are being treated decent and not being made to take this pill or that pill to mellow them out. It’s easier to take care of a compliant person then a person who struggles to understand where they are and want to leave etc. Again boils down to money, everyone wants a paycheck and dementia people aren’t the ones who will speak up if staff or place isn’t right fit. But if one is happy where they think all their loved ones needs are being taken care of, well then it’s in you. I don’t recommend this place. It’s easy for Alisha or staff to say things are great, but everything isn’t always what it seems and all should be able to have their dignity and respect instead of being looked at as a income…..again it’s a business but it’s up to you as a loved one to remain involved and make sure they have/keep their respect and dignity. Abuse and neglect happens anywhere, do your research, don’t go by just outside appearances, or how friendly people seem, you owe it to your loved ones, they are more then just a income for a business, much more. They shouldn’t have to suffer in silence because of a condition.

I have worked in mental health (psychotherapist and social worker) for over 20 years and hospice for the past 5 years. Our House Memory Care in Menomonie is in the top three facilities with respect to those I would highly recommend! My recommendation is first and foremost based off of my belief in Theodore Roosevelt's words, "People do not care how much you know until they know how much you care." Administration and staff at this facility care greatly about their residents. They put into action the saying on the sign in their entryway - "Our residents do no live in our workplace; we work in their home." In order for that saying to come to fruition in a workplace, it must be role modeled and encouraged by administration. Alisha Arvold, Director, and Melina Schultz, Assistant Director, are exemplary role models of preserving dignity, worth and respect of the residents by empowering their employees to not just take excellent care of their residents home, but more importantly, to take excellent care of their resident's emotional, mental and physical health. What I love most about their leadership is that they are not hyper-focused on "Doing, Doing, Doing," but rather, value and appreciate the beauty of simply spending time with their residents listening to their stories and making them feel valued. This type of leadership is not only a gift to the residents but also to the staff at Our House as it teaches the important life lessons that one, our elderly are wise and have important lessons to teach us and two, memories are what make us truly rich. The servant-hearted leadership provided by Alisha and Melina set staff up for success. The staff that I currently observe on a weekly basis (Rachel, Reese and many more), respect their leaders, their co-workers and the residents. They are friendly, servant-hearted and appear to truly enjoy the residents as evidenced via putting puzzles together with the residents, using strength based therapy (empathetic listening) to validate and preserve the residents dignity and worth, displaying smiles, excellent eye contact and kindness in their voice tones. Of special note, Alisha was gracious enough to accept a behaviorally challenging resident that had been removed from several other facilities and declined by over 300 facilities due to his oppositional and defiant behaviors. This 70yr. old gentleman with terminal cancer flourished over three months of being in this facility. Of course, it started out rough and he tested their limits, but they provided him with structure, love, kindness, consistency and an unwavering resolve to serve, to make what they do about him and not about themselves. This patient experienced going to a facility prom, eating Sugar Babies (his favorite treat bought just for him), listening to music, holding a turtle, and feeling special in his time at Our House. What a gift!!! He is now in his final hours to days of life and thanks to Alisha, Melina and their staff, this man will "Die Well," feeling loved and accepted. I could go on and on, but for the sake of brevity, will again just reiterate that I highly recommend this facility to anyone who wants their loved one to find joy and to be respected and valued in their final years of life.

Please do NOT leave your love one here. They will be neglected and abused! The staff is so unprofessional and inexperienced it is scary. Alisha the Director does not care about the residents or complaints made to her by employees about mistreatment witnessed. She pushes for all residents to be on hospice to use their nurse as she has no medical experience and doesn’t want the liability on her. If your love one has any memory issues or medical they will be in serious danger here. This faculty is only for someone needing cooking and cleaning done for them as the care takers are not experienced beyond that. Anything else it is dangerous for residents. Be involved and see for yourself the neglect and abuse that happens daily in this place. It needs to be shut down!
