April 2025
If you are in good health and aren't looking for a well maintained building; delicious, healthy food; and a lot of activities then this place will do. There are too many residents living in the facility that have severe enough physical and cognitive issues for it to be considered an assisted living. It is more like a memory care/skilled nursing facility. The very limited staff is trying to do way too much, especially the night staff. There is never more than one staff on duty from 7-7 every night trying to take care of 15-17 people with both physical and cognitive disabilities that range from stage 1 on up. I counted at least 3 residents in wheels chairs that could not get out of the building on their own in case of fire and there is only one person on staff at night. Keep in mind that Greene county Va last I checked only had all volunteer fire department. My Dad lived here 4 years, the last year was rough because his health had degraded to the point he shouldn't have been there in my opinion. I kept asking the executive director if he was too much for the facility and she kept telling me she would let me know when that happens. He wandered at night on 3/10/2025 and I had to move him out in an emergency situation the following day because it was obvious by then that the facility couldn't handle him. She still hasn't let me know... The community details and staff below is stretching it quite a bit or maybe it is old information but is definitely not a reflection of current reality. There is an old pool that hasn't been used in years near the memory facility but I think it now belongs to the skilled nursing which isn't part of the community. The pool should be condemned and filled in because it is a health hazard attracting all kind of insects (mosquitoes) and other unwanted wildlife to the community.

The care that my mom, Helen Hooper received at the Renaissance was above and beyond what I originally expected. It was a tough decision to make but we soon discovered that she was where God wanted her to be. She was treated with the dignity and respect she deserved and received the professional care that she needed at that time of her life. To every member of the staff, mom was their mom as well and was not just another patient. In all of my visits there to see mom, not once did I encounter any of the employees acting as if it was just a job, they were there because this was the career that God called them to and they showed it in the care that they provided to mom as well as to all of the other residents. During mom's last days with us she became incoherent and didn't react to much or say anything. However, the Monday before she passed on Thursday, Joann and Hope were making the shift change over to Stanley. When they walked into her room and were discussing the things that Stanley would need to know that night, mom heard their voices, opened her eyes and spoke the last formidable words, that any of us would hear. She said, "I love you girls!" To me this is even more evidence to the true care that she received from everyone at the Renaissance. Thank you to everyone: Liesa, Tina, Amber, Beth, Joann, Hope, Shelby, LeeAnne, Bo, Robin and Stanley. You guys rock!! Though mom's time with you was only for 3 months, you treated her as if you knew her for all your life and your care for her will not be forgotten. Thank you!!

My mom has been a resident at The Renaissance Assisted Living in Stanardsville, Virginia since February, 2020. In finding an assisted living for my mom, I was looking for a smaller facility that had everything on one floor with outdoor porches where she could go outside and enjoy the fresh air and a good book! After looking at The Renaissance and meeting the friendly staff there, I looked no further! It was everything that I had envisioned for my mom!! The facility is very, very clean and well maintained! The outside flowers in the spring, summer, and fall are beautiful and they make sure they decorate the inside/outside of the facility for each holiday. I just attended a Christmas party there, and it was so impressive as to the efforts they went through to create a festive atmosphere for the residents and their guests. The staff from day one made her feel right at home. Every single staff member goes out of their way to make the residents feel comfortable, safe, and they treat them with so much love, respect, and kindness!! The Renaissance has felt so much like a home for my mom and not a facility. The staff is also very professional, accommodating, and compassionate. They have always gotten back to me in a very timely manner if I have a question. I truly believe they love their residents by the way they treat them. I do not worry about my mom because I know she is getting excellent care which is a huge relief to me!! Thank you to ALL the staff at The Renaissance Assisted Living for taking excellent care of my mom!! We love you all!!

I highly recommend The Renaissance Assisted Living facility for your loved one's care. My Father has received wonderful care there. Beth has gone above and beyond to make sure that he is well looked after. Everyone has been kind and treats my father well.

This is one of the most caring facilities I know. The staff is truly wonderful and attentive, the food is actually quite good, and I can tell everyone cares about their job. The executive director makes sure that everyone is treated like family and is focused on the experience of the residents. Its a fantastic place that I would highly recommend.

My Mother spent several years, first at the Assisted Living and then at the Harbor. I spent many days there with her, assisting her, talking with the staff, even enjoying some meals with her. I found it very nice much like home. Properties were maintained well. there was entertainment several times a week, either someone coming in or little trips the residents could take part. They even have a hair dresser. He did Moms hair every once in a while. She loved it. I was very happy with my Mom living there. And would do it again. I believe an Angel helped arrange Mom to be there. If I ever had to go through it again, I would do the same, No question.

The staff at this community are well trained and friendly. They offer activities however my Mother in law does not like to participate in any. She likes the food and they keep the community clean. The Advisor from A Place for Mom did a good job in recommending this community.

I toured this community while looking into care options for a loved one. The facility was well kept and clean, and all of the staff I met seemed friendly and professional. We ended up selecting another community, but this is somewhere I would have considered as an option for my loved one.

They were very very helpful at The Harbor at Renaissance. We liked the facility. Mom refused to go though so we had to put her somewhere in the state she lives. We would have loved for her to be there. Liesa, the director was very kind. It looked like they offered a wide variety of activities. I just wish mom could have come here.

Very happy to have found the Harbor House. The Director and staff are all friendly and very experienced. They expertly guided us through the whole experience and in the end we have found the perfect home for our mom. She and we could not be happier.
