Outstanding, caring, compassionate staff. I knew the moment I walked in the door this was the place for my dad. He had a hospital stay and told them he needed to leave and go back to be with the people who actually cared about him. Words can’t express how grateful my family is for everyone there.

Southwest Virginia is blessed to have a facility of this quality to take care of their family member and our Veterans. My dad has been a resident of their memory care unit since February of this year. Even though he recently passed, I know that he received compassionate, quality care while residing at the facility. Thank you to his entire team that participated in his care in the 1 East Unit.

Have had to intervene several times/have either EMS or transportation take spouse to Lewis Gale. (Admitted for 3 nights one time, treated and released another time because of illness ignored by VVCC.

My husband was a resident here for several months before passing away at Lewis-Gale Hospital in December 2022. From the moment you walk in you are greeted by a wonderful group of employees who definitely make your veteran's health and care their top priority. My husband received wonderful friendly care from top notch nurses, nurses aids and therapists. The resident rooms are kept spotless each and everyday and the food is always hot and delicious. Our family will never forget the excellent care he received from everyone and would highly recommend this facility to any family that wants their loved one to have the respect and care that VVCC gives to each and everyone of their residents.

I love this facility. Everyone is very nice. Whenever I call to check on my dad someone always answers and gives me an update. My dad has made some friends and seems to be adjusting well. Veda is a great nurse and he seems to really like her. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful. And thanks to Sandra Collins for always keeping me updated and answering my questions.

Staff very mute with family regarding plan of care and treatment. Appears not to be a team effort. One small framed female has entered room once during my several visits. Patients were very ill kept and had foul smell. Patients hair unwashed and he had no comb at bedside. Head full of dandruff. I am hoping to get relative moved soon to avoid them doing further harm.

Been a resident since December 2016. Resident facility for U.S. Veterans who are residents of Virginia now or enlisted/ drafted from Va. Convenient to Salem Veterans medical center on Shenandoah Ave. Just past the Slem Veterans Medical Center which is on Boulevard. ADDENDUM/ have tried to advocate for better food for over a year. Has the same menu changing only twice a year spring and fall. Over cooked, too much grease, poorly prepared and taste. UPDATE 3/2/2021 FOOD IS STILL AN ISSUE! IT'S WELL MAINTAINED, THE • STAFF IS VARIABLY TRAINED AND COMPETENT INDIVIDUALLY. THE ASST. ADMINISTRATOR, HEATHER LEGERE, IS THE BEST! SHE IS WILLING TO HELP WITH ANYTHING THAT NEEDS CORRECTION.

The staff here are very caring about their residents. To quote my brother-in-law, "they are always smiling, everyone knows who I am by name and face, and they always make sure I'm doing okay." "And the food is very good!" We totally agree with his comments about the staff. We haven't eaten anything, so we can't speak to that personally. Highly recommend the VVCC if you or your loved one qualify to be at this facility.

Yesterday, Thursday, November 5, 2015, I went to visit my father at VVCC. I was not planning on being there all day but you know how plans are!! The center had an apple festival for the residents, staff. and visitors. This was an awesome afternoon. They had apples fixed in so many different ways. We could even get bags of apples to take with us!! I truly enjoyed the time spent with these unsung heroes. Thank you VVCC for a great afternoon!!

5/21/13 My husband entered VVCC on a stretcher. He could not stand or walk. On 8/29/13, he left VVCC walking and entered the car under his own power. During a 4 month ordeal of his illness, he was in 5 different local hospitals. VVCC was, without a doubt, the absolute best. It was always clean. He was always clean. Every person in the facility spoke to every resident they walked past as well as speaking to all visitors and family. They called me every time there was any change in my husband's condition, his medications, or his treatments. They went beyond what is required to give my husband the extensive physical therapy he needed. I would highly recommend this facility for anyone who needs the care they provide. Good Place to be.
