I believe that Brookdale Harrisonburg is a five star facility for the great level of care they give, and the positive atmosphere it brings. The staff care for the well being of the residents but not only the wellbeing, but they also care for the emotional wellbeing of the residents. It’s a positive atmosphere, and community not only for the residents, but for the staff. There professionalism, and support is worth getting experience here. I can assure you that you will get a warm welcome! While also getting your needs met whether it’s to send your love one here, or to get the best work experience here.

Thank you Jennifer and all the staff at Brookdale for providing a loving safe home for our mom. Your flexibility, caring approach and individualized attention gives our mom a balanced life. Thank you Paul for providing activities and outings to stimulate the minds and hearts of mom and her neighbors. We are thankful that we can rest knowing mom is taken care of by a clean, caring conscientious community that welcomes us in to be a part of mom’s daily life at Brookdale.”

My sister and I had to make the dreaded decision to place our mom in an assisted living home. Dementia/Alzheimer’s is a horrible disease and all of the people (Amy Cook, Michael Kelley, Jenn, Kayla, Ryan), and all of the nurses and staff at Brookdale have made the transition wonderful and pain free. They are available to talk with you any time day or night. The facility is so nice and as my momma says, “they are all so nice here and it smells so clean!” Having this “family” on our side is making this decision a whole lot easier. ❤️

We had the pleasure of serving guests of Brookdale Retirement during our lunch rush at Chilis. A party of ten came in, and they were all genuine people. Their staff was also very helpful in the ordering process. Definitely a good reflection of the assisted living facility.

My dad was very hesitant on moving into a senior living facility. When we went to visit and check the facility out Maggie Amick, Sales Manager, was super nice and made my dad feel very comfortable. It did not take us long to decide that this was the place for him. Everyone was very helpful with his move-in from Maggie presenting him with a welcome basket that had a few of his favorites in it, to Keith Knighting, the Maintenance Manager, helping to install the wall bracket for my dad's t.v.! This type of helpfulness and caring goes on everyday at Brookdale Harrisonburg. I always feel like family when I go to visit. Jennifer McNamara, the Executive Director, is always available to talk if I have questions. Garner Byram, the Business Office Coordinator, is a great person and very helpful if I don't understand the monthly invoices. Jennifer Dove, the Health and Wellness Director, is a great head nurse. She is super friendly and always easy to talk with when it comes to my dad's medical needs. It's impossible to mention all of the staff and all of the great things they do to make Brookdale Harrisonburg "home" for my dad. It's wonderful to have the peace of mind knowing that my dad is living in a safe and caring facility and he loves it!

I would describe Brookdale Harrisonburg and the staff as an extension of our family unit. It gives me great comfort to know that my Dad is in a safe and very well kept facility, but more importantly interacting with people everyday who truly care about him as a person. They treat him with such love and respect and really take a very personal interest in him. When Brookdale opened back up after the Pandemic, I asked my Dad if he was still happy there, his comment was Brookdale is the perfect place for me. The care is excellent and the food and facility both are really well done. The staff takes great care of me. A strong testament to the Brookdale staff and administration is that during the year+ that my Dad lived there during the Pandemic, not once was I concerned about his care and welfare. I knew he was in a very safe place with a great staff. There is very little turnover of staff in this facility so relationships get built and become very strong over time. The Director and the staff are very responsive and also go out of their way to assist families and the residents. Our family has been a part of the Brookdale Harrisonburg community since summer of 2014. My Mother also lived there for a couple of years in Memory Care before her death and my feedback is the same for this unit-a family feel with a very caring and skilled staff. I highly recommend Brookdale Harrisonburg and have not thought twice about our decision to make this my parents home. What I did not realize in this choice is that it would become more than a facility and a place to live, but as I said in the opening line of this review, it is an extension of our family unit. That gives us all great comfort and joy.

We moved mom into Brookdale Assisted Living at the beginning of the pandemic and her care has been excellent. The facility is homey and clean with central living rooms, dining rooms, a craft room and court yard for residents and staff. There are separate rooms for residents to call their own. The staff is professional and they have gone above and beyond to ensure the safety and comfort of the residents during this trying time. They are in constant communication and have made sure that mom has a good quality of life and remains safe. In the time she has been there we have had to move her into memory care. The staff has made sure this transition has gone smoothly. We are able to visit almost daily through facetime-phone and also in person in a scheduled, monitored and safe environment. They have been nothing but patient with us as a family as we navigate moms illness during a time that is becoming a new normal. They are part of our family now and we will always be thankful for their kindness and compassion. They are the true caregiving angels in a time when our family cant physically be with our loved one on a daily basis.

My parents have resided in Senior Living Facilities since January 2012 in both Staunton and Harrisonburg. Brookdale (Harrisonburg) has by far out shone them all. It takes a strong leader who is able to work effectively with staff, residents, and families. Director Beth Wells is this person. She does a superb job on a daily basis. The staff knows her expectations and does their best to perform their duties. She has a positive, upbeat attitude that creates a wonderful atmosphere. Beth is very approachable, a great listener, and problem solver. She genuinely cares about her staff, the residents, and their families. Brookdale is a happy place. Both office and care staff are always around talking with folks, sharing a laugh, and listening. I also observe the lighthearted banter that goes back and forth between residents and staff really helps to keep spirits up. Since my fathers passing, my mom has continuously received hugs, inquiries about how shes doing and expressions of love, care, and support. I see the ongoing gentle care by staff for mom and watch her face light up when she gets a hug and is told she is loved. This means the world to me. Brookdale is a smaller facility that makes for a very homey atmosphere. The residents and staff have a much easier time getting to know each other because they see each other often throughout the day. Since the building is a single floor, residents have to walk by most other residents rooms and staff offices to get to the dining area, activity rooms, and front lobby where most activities take place. This allows for constant contact with other residents and staff. I dont feel the isolation I felt when my parents were living in larger facilities. Brookdale is a lovely facility that was recently renovated with new paint, carpet and furniture. The food is also very good and I have eaten there many times. I appreciate having a place like Brookdale for my parents in Harrisonburg. Without a doubt, I consider Brookdale to be extended family. We are so fortunate to have such a superb facility in our area. Brookdale is by far the best.

Brookdale Harrisonburg had a nice and clean environment. I liked the room size. They had a mingle night, which was healthy for all the people there. They learn from each other, so I thought that was good and liked that. The staff was nice and pleasant. The people there seemed really upbeat.

I appreciate everything about Brookdale Harrisonburg. Jennifer was wonderful and very willing to answer questions and show me around. She keeps communicating with me, sends me messages, and answers my questions. It's a wonderful facility, and we're hoping that we can financially work it out. They have the activities listed and posted, so the residents can see it. They go down and encourage them to come out and participate. They even have a happy hour early in the evening. It's a very welcoming community. They have places where you can get drinks and visit. They have a piano and a place out there where you can grill on the patios or a little courtyard. Families are welcome as well. I looked at the menus and she explained that they have them outside the door before you go into the dining area, so they can choose and make their food from scratch. I didn't taste any of it but it smelled so good in there. We were there around the lunch hour. The facility was very nice, clean, attractive, and didn't have any peculiar odors. I was really impressed. There was a room with a pastor having a devotional. They do various activities in that room as well. They even encourage the ladies to bring their favorite recipes, and they'll make it and enjoy it together. They have laundry facilities around.

Brookdale Harrisonburg was a very nice place with an outdoor patio and a huge TV in the sitting room where some people were reading books, too. There were many other residents sitting out because it was a beautiful day, and the whole patio was full of residents. The girl who took us on the tour was fantastic. The rooms were nice, the whole place was clean. In the dining area, they had a small equipped kitchen for the residents who liked to cook. They had a cooking day to engage residents, which I think is fantastic. They had a lot of activities going on. It was a little high-priced.

Brookdale Harrisonburg is very nice, but a little older. The room is not that spacious, but they seem to do a pretty good job there. They are suited to handle people in wheelchairs and all that. The grounds are very nice, green, well kept, and clean.

Emeritus was a little smaller, and it’s in the same city where we live, so that was a plus. The room I saw was very nice. It was smaller than the one that I had seen in Staunton, and it’s big enough with the needs that I have. The dining area looked very nice. Sanitation was very good, and the staff was friendly. They had a lot of activities planned. Everything was very clean and appealing when you walk-in.

The staff at Emeritus was very nice and personal. The rooms were very nice, spacious, and clean. I like the location, the way it was laid out, and the homey, nice, and clean feel. The dining room was setup very nicely; it was very easy for the people to get in and out. They were having lots of activities like bingos and trips. The place is nice and secure.

I chose Emeritus at Harrisonburg because of the memory care unit, the quality of care, and recommendations from others. They do have activities, but my mother is not in that category to be doing a lot of the activities they have due to her condition. Everything is good there, and I am very happy with the staff. There were no issues with the cleanliness or maintenance. This is the most convenient facility, and it had the affordability that we could handle as well.

Emeritus at Harrisonburg really stood out for me among others. Also I met the people there and I was impressed. That's why we chose this facility for my mother. So far, it has been worth it. She has been there since the first week of October. They have assisted living and Alzheimer's/dementia unit. The facility is quite adequate. It's a secure area that's why mom has moved over there. The community director is very capable. This place has all kinds of activities for them. They also have a community bus that’s capable of taking handicapped people into the community. Overall, this facility provides a well-rounded service.

My father has been at Emeritus for three years; he is 93. The staff....from the Director Beth Wells....to every single person there whos in charge of anything has been and continues to be absolutely incredible in their attention to and for my father! I adore these people! They do what I cannot do, which is care for my father 24-7. The facilities are always clean and well-maintained. The common areas are elegantly decorated and furnished, and yet feel very comfortable and welcoming. The dining room is beautifully furnished as well, and its staff serves with great courtesy to residents! The dining staff, too, always has an eye to what would both appeal to my father to eat, and what would be allowed because of medical condition, AND, they also graciously serve me lunch or any meal whenever I visit and eat with him. Top-notch!!My father has had some health issues in his three years there, and has been hospitalized. Staff visited my dad frequently in the hospital, and reassured him, as well as me every time, that all accommodations would be made to help him recover once he returned. And, of course, there are the fine staff who see to my dads needs and wants on a daily basis - absolutely the finest!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are kind, attentive, courteous, COMPETENT, caring, and I have forever gratitude and affection for these care-givers; I know he maintains because of their professional, and yet personal, attentions to him.I have always believed that any facility for residential care should be clean, well-maintained, and friendly, as well as providing for any health concern. I have always known, though, that it is the PEOPLE who make that facility a place of caring and warmth and compassion.....Emeritus of Harrisonburg is that place....I applaud the entire staff!!!
