My husband has been in Memory Care at Gemstone. Monica Ponce is professional, and has excellent skills in Management. She responds in a timely fashion and continues to go the extra mile to help. The new Management team, starting at the top. Have responded quickly to my concerns and continue to make improvements to the facility. Liz, head of Memory care, continues to make improvements, adding new personel,working closely with the Medical personel and the care givers. Alma, is excellent and goes beyond her job description. All the personal I've had experience meeting and observing. Appear to be kind,caring and patient. There is a feeling of a large family…at Gemstone Memory care. My husband was at a large very expensive and,said to be one of the best in the city. They did have more activities. However, my husband tends to isolate. Truly, Gemstone was the perfect choice for my love one. I'm not being paid or receiving any benefits writing this review. I'm extremely selective and particularly….they have been on top of my loved ones care. They continue to help with long term care issues…and if you haven't met Lucy….she's a Delight. Linda Dunlap

Stopped by an Open House the other day to look for a place for my mother, and was delighted with a vibrant, clean community that welcomed me with open arms. Eduardo De Hoyos was the one who showed me around, and put any concerns I had at ease, with a calm, cool and confident demeanor. Unfortunately it was a little too far for my family but in a different world this would be my mom's home! Thanks Eduardo!

TERRIBLE! THE STAFF HEE IS NOT FORTHCOMING AND REPORTING SITUATIONS OR UPDATES ON LOVED ONE. CONTINUALLY TELL YOU WHAT YOU AS A LOVED ONE ARE DOING WRONG AND NO COCEPT OF MEDICAL PROCEEDURES. [name removed] IS PARTICULARLLY DIFFICULT AND HAS A BAD ATTITUDE. STAFF DO NOT CHECK ON YOUR LOVED ONES EVERY 2 HOURS. VERY OPINIONATED STAFF AND THEY HAVE POOR JUDGEMENT. I WOULD NOT LET [name removed] TAKE CARE OF MY DOG.

After looking at seven places for mom, we knew this was the one. They graciously showed us around and introduced us to their staff. I mostly appreciate their communication with the care of my mom through Amanda and Bernadette. Rooms are very good size, clean, and the facility has plenty of areas for residents and guests to sit and visit. Linda and Tim the Activities and Events Directors provide many activities daily and take them on fun outings.We couldn’t ask for a better place. Grateful we found them.

I am so thankful to have my Mom so safe, happy, well cared for, and spoiled by the amazing staff (who is absolutely like family) at The Gardens of Castle Hills. Her apartment is perfectly cozy. The dining room is FABULOUS!! The entire staff - concierge, housekeeping, activity director (Wow can she decorate, among so many other gifts), medical care staff (oh my gosh I appreciate you!!!) , dining room staff, maintenance- all work so hard and honestly are ready to help in any way. I can very easily talk with the owners face to face, but just want to publicly say Thank You James and Suzanne, for creating this home that is an answer to my prayers.

The facility has recently added an Activity Coordinator for the Memory Care group and I immediately saw vast improvement. Yesterday I arrived for a visit with my 99 year old nana and she was completely engaged in a painting activity, as were several other residents. Ramona, the head nurse, is awesome and always available to communicate when we have concerns. And its obvious that each staff member is picked especially for these residents that require special attention and redirection quite often (Alzheimers-Dementia patients). We appreciate them so much!

Updated and Re-written 04-12-21: I have upgraded my review to 4 stars based on the care my father received, which was before the ownership change. I still rate the new owners business practices at 2 stars. My father spent 2 1-2 years in Memory Care here, mostly when it was known as Ventura Hills. Alzheimers turned him into a belligerent, difficult resident. The staff handled him so well and communicated with me clearly and frequently. Theyre angels. They truly showed they cared. I cant praise them enough, especially Ramona. Ultimately, my father died of COVID-19 here in early January. The staff helped us empty his room immediately so that we would not have to enter a COVID hot zone. (Im not going to second guess how well they took COVID precautions. The virus ran rampant across the country and in many long term homes. Many times, it felt inevitable. that COVID would strike. We were not allowed in, so I have no first-hand knowledge.) It was after my fathers death that the new owner showed little regard for us. We were owed a refund for the 3-4 of the month my father was not there, but for which we pre-paid. After 8 emails across 3 full months, he replied to only three. He sent a partial refund after his first reply. In his second reply, he promised the balance to be mailed within two days. The final refund finally arrived 6 weeks after that, after my original 2-star review appeared here. Now, we can count this as resolved. But it certainly leaves a bad impression when a bereaved family cannot get simple replies to a request for money owed to us. (Google does not seem to allow me to Reply to the Owners reply below this review; instead, I have re-written this to conclude this matter.)

The rare snow storm hit San Antonio and caused power outages, but the Gardens of Castle Hills has remained warm with two generators on standby. The staff shoveled snow and salted sidewalks at 3:45 am to keep the community safe for residents and staff. Residents had fun lining up at the window watching the snow coming down. What a great place!

Under the leadership of Imagine Senior Living at Castle Hills the new owners have already made a difference in the care and treatment of the residents. COVID has certainly made this past year a challenging time for all senior living facilities. However, the new leadership team has taken up the challenge and is instituting policies and procedures to protect the residents and make their lives as pleasant as possible, given this pandemic. God Bless the entire staff for their tireless efforts!

My grandfather moved in last October. He has settled in nicely with help from staff. They are very attentive and caring. He is making friends and he is happy with the activities they offer.

My sister and I recently visited The Gardens of Castle Hills as we are looking for the best assisted living situation for our mother to move into, The team at Castle Hills were all very nice and gave us the instant feeling that they would be amazing in taking care of our mom. As we toured, the cleanliness was impressive! When we talked to some of the current tenants, they were all smiles and had great things to say about the staff. On they way out we were handed a small bag of the most amazing cookies, I now know why a few were bragging about the food served everyday at The Gardens of Castle Hills.

Great place with safety first and health of residents as top priority! Our family has enjoyed their relationship with staff and experience at Ventura Hills where residents truly come first! They also have a great white lab, Maebelle who visits and is loved by residents and seems to know who needs a pick me up when she shows up. Energy calms and Maebelle fits right in!

I really like this community for my dad they are working with me to keep my dad healthy and happy. He just isn't eating the food so the staff helps encourage him to do so. The staff is nice and approachable and very patient with my dad. There are daily activities that they engage him on and he does enjoy them. The staff is really concerned and caring. The grounds are well maintained and is always clean inside. I would a recommend this community.

I toured here when looking for a place for my sister. It was very, very nice. I liked it but my sister didnt seem to. I liked the grounds a lot and some of the residents were outside while we were touring. It seemed very safe and very accommodating. The facility was very clean and there werent any smells, which is normally the first thing I try to pay attention to. The residents all seemed happy and helpful and everything I saw was beautiful. It was a nice place all around but we ultimately went with a different community.

We toured this community and we liked the staff that answered the questions we had on the care that is offered. We liked the list of the activities that we offered. We did not like the environment and it did not have the feeling that my mom was looking for. We would recommend that other families tour this community for the care of family member.
