Our parent lived at The Retreat @ Lady’s Island for 3+ years and this was an amazing place with a great staff that was very attentive to their residents. Eventually, we needed to relocate our parent to be closer to family but that was a very hard decision to make. The staff is what made that decision so difficult. If you are looking for a great place for an aging parent in the Beaufort, SC area this facility needs to be at the top of your list. The location offers great water views if that is as important to you as it was to us when making a decision on a facility 3 years ago. And if your loved ones are dealing with dementia, the memory care unit is very attentive to the needs of these residents. Five stars all the way!

We have a wonderful Thanksgiving meal with our father who is a resident. There was a large crowd. The food was so good. And so many selections. Very organized and very enjoyable. It really felt like Thanksgiving. Hats off to Rhoda!!

My mother Coral Arias was a resident of The Retreat's memory care unit for some years. The staff took very good care of mama. I was always greeted by the friendly staff and mom's accommodations were always wonderful and even helped momma eat when she was having trouble feeding herself. They regularly had activities for the resident's to do which would cater to their individual needs. Alzheimer's disease is never going to be a pleasant experience, but the staff at the facility made it bearable. Mom passed on 9/9/25 and it was peaceful. The staff was wonderful during this very difficult time. I would recommend The Retreat to anyone looking for a compassionate and friendly place for your loved one to live. They will always have my gratitude and thanks.

My father, who recently passed away, was a 4-yr resident at The Retreat. We were blessed that he was at that facility. Both management and staff always treated him with respect, unwavering kindness, and as part of “the family”. Round-the-clock med techs and other staff quickly addressed his needs and requests, he was always well-cared for and happy at the facility, and in a clean, well maintained, and beautiful setting. He enjoyed many of the daily social activities and outings. Our family feels blessed for having such a wonderful facility in the Beaufort community, and so grateful for the personalized care and friendship of everyone that is part of The Retreat. I wholeheartedly recommend this facility for elderly, assisted living arrangements for your loved one in The Retreat at Lady’s Island.

The Retreat at Lady's Island is outstanding! Just moved in my dad who has dementia. The process was seamless. The entire Retreat staff have been attentive and kind, going beyond what is asked or expected. Dad seems to be adjusting well. Very thankful!

The folks at The Retreat at Lady's Island treated my mother with compassion and care during her time there. Their on-boarding process was easy. The rooms are a great size and well appointed as are the common areas. There's a lack of staff turnover which is reassuring and creates continuity of care. They all take the time to get to know their residents and are responsive to concerns and feedback. Mom was assigned to a wonderful gentleman who was tasked with helping her acclimate to her new surroundings. He would update me with his assessment of how Mom was settling in and I appreciated his input! Great outdoor space, fun activities and absolutely stellar food are icing on the cake! I mean the food is absolutely fantastic! But I can't say enough about the staff who went above and beyond during my Mom's last days. Their heart is what makes The Retreat at Lady's Island the best in the Lowcountry! Note: The photos depict Mom's room as we decorated it as well as the view from her room.

Excellent staff, Very attentive and polite. Food is really good. Environment is always clean. Laundry is taken care of. Trash is taken care of and room is clean. Very well done. Reasonable price. We have enjoyed our stay. Look forward to staying longer.

Three months ago, I lost my dad, and it broke my heart. But before he passed, I was lucky enough to have him at The Retreat on Lady’s Island. From the moment he arrived, the kindness and care shown by Tyler, Bart, and the incredible nursing staff meant everything to us. My dad looked at me one day and said, “I’m so lucky to be in such a beautiful place and have you nearby.” If you’re facing the tough decision of finding assisted living for someone you love, I want you to know—this is the place. It will not only care for your loved one, it will become your second family. Thank you to everyone at The Retreat for helping us feel peace during such a difficult time.

My parents have lived on the assisted living side for a year and now my dad had moved to memory care. We have found the staff to be kind, compassionate and willing to work through any issues we may encounter. It is a lovely spot and they continue to make updates to the facility. They also do a great job making every holiday festive. Nothing is perfect, but we are happy with my parents’ care, and I would definitely recommend.

My mom lived in her Florida home for 65 years. We wanted her to be closer to us but were concerned about such a big change for her in her late 80s. She sometimes asks about going home but then will pause and say, “But this is a very nice place and everyone here is good to me.” The Retreat is a happy place. I couldn’t imagine a place better for her and we love having her living nearby.

I have only positive things to say about Long Island Retreat. It’s the 3rd facility we’ve been to and I’m sorry we didn’t start here. The staff have been caring and keep place clean. The food is the best of all places we tried. They also realize he’s a good eater so make sure he gets extra when wanted. When arriving it was realized he was overmedicated so they astutely weaned him off slowly but results were great. And Rhoda and Nancy keep entertainment options for all. But Mallory is great in getting him moving and improving his strength, movement and spirits. So I fully recommend Retreat

My family and I recently placed our mother in the Retreat of Lady’s Island. The director of the facility Tyler Mikell created a seamless transition for us. My mother whose home is not far from the Retreat has a view of the Intercostal Waterway and her new home in the Retreat has the same view. I love how the little and big details were addressed by the staff at the Retreat. Even now after we have transitioned Tyler and staff are attentive to our needs, concerns and even our grief in the process. I am so grateful for their professionalism. I would highly recommend this beautiful facility. A loving staff with attentiveness to the details.

Can't say enough positive things about Tyler, Bart, Meredith, Cali, and the whole staff at The Retreat. They made the process of transitioning my mother as smooth as possible. I was assured that within a week she would be happy there, and I would have lost that bet 100 times. But it didn't even take that long for mom to begin settling in because the community is clean with attentive, kind and friendly staff, good food, lots of events... highly recommend.

My mom's respite care stay in November was such a wonderful vacation for her. They treated her like family. She had an amazing river view from her suite. The staff treated her with TLC. The food was awesome. Lots of activities. She really didn't want to leave. She'll be back for another vacation in 2025.

We have been so thankful for and happy with the staff members who care for my mother-in-law. The caregivers truly do care and go the extra mile to make sure that she is comfortable and happy. We are also so thankful for Rhoda, the Activities Director. She not only has things planned for residents to do every day of the week, but she will stop in to my mom-in-law’s room to say “hi” and see how she is doing and personally invite her to join in an activity! Rhoda is loving, kind, positive and creative. We look forward to seeing her when we visit and we know she keeps mom engaged. It’s so reassuring!

We highly recommend the Retreat at Lady's Island for your loved one. Dad has been there in the memory care unit for a couple of years now. He is always raving about the food and staff. We personally are very thankful for a heart-warming staff. They look after him as if he was their own dad. They are attentive, patient, understanding, and caring. The facility is pleasant, well-kept, and attractive. When Dad needed care, we looked at a number of near-by assisted-living places, evaluating quality-of-life characteristics. We are well-pleased with our choice.

My sister has resided at The Retreat for about a year. She has thrived far better than she did on her own. One staff member with whom she interacts probably more than anyone else is the Program and Outreach Director, Rhoda Paxton. Rhoda always seems happy to do what she can to improve the life of the residents and make things easier for their families.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude. I recently visited the facility to visit my loved one and was completely amazed at the events that took place during my visit. I saw the smile on all the residents face when they attended. The lady that leads the event was beyond loving, patient and kind to each of them! This could be a challenging take to say the least. That meant more than these words could ever describe! Rhoda is most definitely a keeper!! I even asked for an event schedule because I want to attend more of these events!

This place is the real deal. This is a well run assisted living community with activities available, set in a really lovely building. This was the third place I moved my father within a year of seeking the right space and staff for him. In 3 months he has blossomed like a flower. His clarity and awareness have improved. His mood and outlook are now optimistic. The medical staff is on point. The care he receives meets him where his needs are. What really makes this an amazing place is the staff. The executive director is involved and interested observant and truly a people person. He has created a group of caring and talented people to run The Retreat at Lady's Island. The caregivers are attentive, doing the jobs with supportive attitude. My father is a retired city planner with a bit of military service record. His pension and benefits cover the fees with enough left over for treats and activities. What a relief to find this all 8 miles from my home.

The big difference I notice at the Retreat is that they offer a dedicated staff member for Memory Care activities during the week. This is so important for persons with dementia to keep their brain active. My mother has improved cognitively during her stay at the Retreat. We tried other facilities; they have staff trying to fit in activities among other duties and the activities are often skipped. The manager, Tyler, is wonderful to work with and very accommodating. The place is always clean; the front desk staff is welcoming. I wish their food nutrition was a bit better is the only drawback noticed, but the many good things make this the best facility out of 3 that we've used.

Words can't adequately express my gratitude for Tyler and his team at The Retreat at Lady's Island. They went above and beyond to help my mother and her recovery - Rachel and Tyler were amazing in accommodating all her needs as she transitioned in, JR was fantastic with PT, Caleigh was always knowledgeable and attentive in her nursing care. To top it off, my mother has only great things to say about the meals at The Retreat. I can't recommend Tyler and the entire team highly enough!

The food service director is amazing. Will knows what he's doing. My mother has been in a few assisted livings and retirement facilities. The food is very good here. The best part from what we can tell is the food service dept is doing great.

After looking at about six facilities I decided on the Retreat at Lady’s Island. This proved to be one the best decisions I have ever made. The Retreat is maintained impeccably, the food is exceptional and most of all the staff is amazing. My wife is treated like family. Honestly, this place exceeded my wildest expectations. Don’t think I’ve ever been associated with or have known an organization with so many pleasant and competent people who genuinely love their work. God’s work.

Our 92 year old mother has experienced first hand neglect due to untrained personnel at the The Retreat located at Lady’s Island. Their staff members were unfamiliar with her medical needs or personalized care plan, and their sub-standard care resulted in an adverse effect to her physical and mental health at this nursing facility. When our family members addressed these issues and any concerns, management as well as staff would not proactively suggest solution, lacked communications regarding improvements and instead members of staff acted passive aggressively, blocking attempts to transfer our mother out of their facility by delaying transfer of medical documents, and delaying mandatory tuberculosis testing.My mother lost a substantial amount of weight while at the Retreat, she suffered neglect by the staff who would "forget" to feed her while she was in quarantine due to medical appointments she had to go to. The meals were aweful and did not provide the nutitional needs she required, she felt depressed and alone, not allowed to leave her room or participate in any activities while in quarantine. She was mentally distressed by the facility's nurse who would threaten her with being quarantined when we had to take her to the Urgent care clinic for a PPD test required by the new facility we were going to transfer her to. I would give this facility a rating of 1 or less. If you care about your loved one, do not take them to the Retreat to live. If they live at the Retreat, I would move them out. A lot of residents, as well as staff and administrators have left this facility....for a reason.

My mother lived in memory care for over a year, before her death in July. She had the best of care, and she loved her caregivers. She enjoyed all of the activities, and really enjoyed being able to go to Cobble study and church services. Beautiful place!
